I couldn't name 10 records that got me into Death Metal because when I got into Death Metal there weren't that many good records out. Napalm Death's "Mentally Murdered" just got released and a local radio station played a song or two of it and I loved it. I went into the next big record store but they didn't have any Napalm Death. But they had Napalm's "Cruel Tranquility" which was not my taste and Death's "Scream Bloody Gore" which I bought right on the spot. Later I got "Altars of Madness", "Slowly We Rot", Bolt Thrower "Realm Of Chaos", Pestilence "Consuming Impulse", Pungent Stench "For God Your Soul..." and the two Morgoth EPs. And then the Hype started and I was happy about the welcome change of Paradise Lost and Cathedral, My Dying Bride and Anathema. But my very first show ever that I went to was Carcass on their "Symphonies of Sickness" Tour. Great album, but still Grindcore then. So I'm really happy for the inspiration to check out all these new bands. Btw.: which band's cover art is shown between Infester and Carcass? Thx.

Mine is easy - None So Vile by Cryptopsy. My favorite death metal album ever, but not my favorite death metal band (though I do like them). If you're being broad about death metal, my first extreme metal OR metal record EVER was Children of Bodom's Something Wild. I actually got into regular metal (Iron Maiden, etc.) from Children of Bodom.
I don't really like Åkerfeldts growls, sure he has a quite unique and own style, but I think it sounds like he needs to take a poop. I do like his vocals on Brave Murder Day by Katatonia though.
Children of Bodom made me love (melodic) black metal because of Alexis evil growls in the debut and the other 2 upcoming albums, which I still listen today and praise hardcore. In my opinion the change on "Are you Dead yet" made this band become just a regular thrash sounding band with mediocore solos and worse vocals. Also Jari from Wintersun was only great in the debut and his projects like Arthemesia and Ensiferum, with Time they dropped in guitar quailities and songwriting overall became like Nightwish or something. In my opinion, Melodic Death metal is something completely different to Death metal so I dont count Opeth, In Flames , Kalmah, CoB,...to the albums that got me into DM! My start into Death metal was: Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding Death - Human Entombed - Clandestine Morbid Angel - Covenant Obituary - Cause of Death Autopsy - Mental Funeral Atheist - Piece of time Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus
Mine were probably 1.cannibal corpse live cannibalism 2. Morbid angel domination. 3. Brujeria mextremist 4. The red chord fused together through revolving doors 5. Cattle decapitation to serve man
As bad as it sounds I got my start in 8th grade when I was introduced to a few metalcore and deathcore bands (around maybe 2013/2014?). Whitechapel's Somile Defilement was my shit. After getting flak from the local death metal community I was introduced to actual death metal. Albums I started with was Jungle Rot: Skin The Living, Bloodbath: Nightmares Made Flesh, Obituary: Slowly We Rot, Cryptopsy: Blasphemy Made Flesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse: Labirynth, and then The Black Dahlia Murder's Miasma. Basic start but we all started somewhere.
My first ever experience with death metal was Archspire's The Lucid Collective. My brother kept giving me crap for what I was listening to at the time(I was really into Hollywood Undead at the time) and so I decided I wanted to find something absolutely heavy and insane and decided that death metal was the key to that. Since I had no idea what death metal even was I kept looking at RUclips comments and so many people were mentioning Archspire so I decided to listen to Archspire. I looked up Archspire and the first song to pop up was Fathom Infinite Depth (this was before the release of Relentless Mutation so around 2026 early 2017) and when I saw that I clicked on it and put on my earbuds in and listened to it and was blown away by what I heard. It was so fast and heavy compared to what I heard before and I loved it. I immediately fell in love with the band and decided that death metal was kind of cool and that is how I got into death metal
The Berserker is tight. I found them while finding other Roadrunner Records bands trying to find other heavy music after finding Deicide. Deicide led me to the Berserker which led me to more and more death metal. yeet
Listened to a lot of Death in high school (especially "Human") but "Your Treachery Will Die With You" for me as well opened the doors wide open for death metal
Death's song Empty words was the first death metal song i ever heard when i was 14. Shortly after i listened to the full album and i was hooked. To this day Empty words is my absolute favorite death metal song ever. Thanks to Death old school death metal is my fav subgenre of metal.

I was in sixth grade in 1989 and I started dating a girl who was making a fanzine called Enigmatic Dillusions. One of the first couple of bands to send us demos for review included Internal Bleeding, Impetigo, Gutted, Suffocation and Dying Fetus. I don't remember the exact dates but it was probably closer to 91 but I was devoted to that style since day one.
yup sorry to disappoint you that im not like everyone else that woke up in 300 year old crypt with a mystical entity that started shitting out Swedish demo tapes for me to listen to.
Very bad start to death metal... Probably the only death metal among the 10 was Nile...and not so good...hahaha I started with Obituary,Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse,Entombed,Dismember, Unleashed....staff like that...when i was 15 years old back in the mid 90's
Strangely a classic. Death - Individual Thought Patterns, or if we're slightly stretching the definition, Sepultura - Beneath The Remains (discovered it in 1998)
I feel the dislikes are coming from boomers upset I didn’t name any 80’s Death metal demos lol
Wyattxhim feel like you have horrible taste in music and make people who actually listen to death metal look like retards
Kveldulf that’s literally the most “boomer” thing you could say to this 😂
@@wyattxhim hey I'm not judging on some of the choices bro. We all had to get there somehow.
@@wyattxhim hey boss i just wanted to say YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT ABOUT CHRIS PEETERS

Death's song Empty words was the first death metal song i ever heard when i was 14. Shortly after i listened to the full album and i was hooked. To this day Empty words is my absolute favorite death metal song ever. Thanks to Death old school death metal is my fav subgenre of metal.

This list isn’t elitist enough. I’m disappointed. I’m with the E.P.D and your under arrest for that..lol
First album that got me into death metal was Death - Spiritual Healing.
No me gusto mucho tu top pero lo respeto me gustaria que ahi este el Butchered at the Bird de Cannibal Corpse y el Legion de Deicide

You were in the 6th grade when Are You dead yet came out? God damn I’m old!
I was in sixth grade in 1989 and I started dating a girl who was making a fanzine called Enigmatic Dillusions. One of the first couple of bands to send us demos for review included Internal Bleeding, Impetigo, Gutted, Suffocation and Dying Fetus.
I don't remember the exact dates but it was probably closer to 91 but I was devoted to that style since day one.
that's a fuckin' killer zine name
So you basically got in to metal like any other kid in the states, Dying fetus, the berserker... zZzZzZzz
yup
sorry to disappoint you that im not like everyone else that woke up in 300 year old crypt with a mystical entity that started shitting out Swedish demo tapes for me to listen to.
Bodom rules. Still rip their shit to this day
No me gusta mucho el brutal death de exhumed es puro ruido a mi parecer
The Bleeding by Cannibal Corpse is my favorite death metal album of all time and that album I hold responsible for getting me into death metal.
Jaja Childrem of Bodom
I love The Berzerker.
Very bad start to death metal...
Probably the only death metal among the 10 was Nile...and not so good...hahaha
I started with Obituary,Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse,Entombed,Dismember, Unleashed....staff like that...when i was 15 years old back in the mid 90's
The first death metal song I listened to was Bed of Razors by CoB
Strangely a classic. Death - Individual Thought Patterns, or if we're slightly stretching the definition, Sepultura - Beneath The Remains (discovered it in 1998)
I think you're a bit confused.
