This is my childhood toys. I think I got them along with a pair of shoes. So you buy the shoes and you'll get one of these. I'll be honest, that's the best marketing strategy ever lol
I love where this is heading! I'm really happy that you found out that electric engines don't have as much torque as it used to. The gas engines have variable torque and at maximum level, they have 7x more torque
@@Loderyod uh, buddy? electric motors have FAR more torque compared to any form of internal combustion engine operating at similar energy levels (or external combustion for that matter) and with the potential for both sensory feedback and fine control of that torque on an instant to instant basis, far better power to weight ratios, and a lot more tolerance for load variance and just plain general abuse the only real issue with electric motors is that electric _storage systems_ are both really dam heavy and relatively low energy density. oh! also usually kinda poor efficiency on electricity storage but electric motors are far more efficient so ICE/ECE has that problem even worse overall. funnily enough a lot of the time the _gas_ car is the one that ends up being less of a miniature ecological disaster overall because batteries are all sorts of bad in that regard, that and the infrastructure for generating electricity relatively cleanly is a lot less there than you might expect.
The car it self had 2 modes for the steering. When you pressed a button on the remote and steered left or right it made the front wheels rotate with more force otherwise it just steers normally.
I loved being a kid in the 90s. Every commercial was done in that "extreme" voice. I think I circled this RC multiple times in the Christmas catalogue, but never got one.
I remember having a similar toy, but it was impossible to do backflips, as it had small anti-roll wheels on its back (which also served as a spoiler). At least you could do some neat wheelies with it.
It's hard so say. I clearly remember mine being blue with black and silver parts (with no transparent parts), the wheels were made of rubber, and had those little spokes on them, and was RWD. It was fairly large too
Ah yes '90s RC cars and their commercials. I think my favorites from TYCO were the Rebound and Fast Traxx. One that really surprised me was the Stunt Boss 360. It didn't have any particularly crazy gimmicks as it was just a car with tank steering, but its shape and balance let you do some really neat tricks with it.
@@ledocteur7701 REbound also had Tank Steering but had the added gimmick that it was build to run either way up, which was then replaced by Super ReBound which could spin one side of its wheels round a central point to put it into crazy tumbles if you wanted an RC Car with a crazy trick gimmick Tyco had you covered in the 90s
Here in the US they were also called cyclones at least when i had them (early 2000s) and there was a couple different variations. I remember one had wheelie bars on the back
Holy crap scrapman I still have one of these , albeit they are a bit different because they were made in Brazil ( where I’m from ) and by a different company , but they had both the front and back wheels rotate and sometimes in opposite directions aswell , I still have it as a novelty item and you made me smile so much after remembering about it and all the times me and my cousins played with it
I used to have one of these, the motors were absolutely deafening and we didn’t have anywhere to go with it so it didn’t see much use, but it was so iconic that it stuck in my mind anyway.
Edit (because mobile): It wasn’t exactly the same as the Tantrum, but it had the same steering mechanism and I think it was supposed to work upside-down too. And it was red and black, so bonus points,
Dear scrapman, I noticed that you are going with a cool and interesting military weapons style so far and I would love to see you make a bouncing bomb dambuster. This was a very interesting invention made in Britain where they spun a explosive Barrel at rapid speeds from an airplane and dropped it into a river were it bounced into a german dam and exploded.
I wanted one of these! My cousin had one and it was awesome! He had a lot of the iconic 90's toys and it was always fun to go there and hang out and play. We didn't have a lot of money so there was a lot of shopping at thrift/second hand stores.
I remember these, got them from a mall somewhere. I also saw a lot of shoe commercials that had these, or a variation of these cars as a gift when you buy them. I saw these in like 2013-2015 lol
So, loved this commercial as a toddler, actually managed to get a wicked toy similar as a kid, Shell Shocker R/c had an armadillo function and a tail. Think it would be interesting if not possibly glitchy in Scrap Mechanic
Now you’ve gone and made us feel old! I love it and remember this toy!!! While you’re at it, what if you were to recreate the Mattel Vertibird toy helicopter?! In short it was a helicopter on a pole that circled around a central fulcrum. You could increase and decrease the power of the helicopter, and tilt the helicopter forward or back. The objective was to pickup barrels/cars within that circle and drop them off at the helipad!
every year I think they had a new crazy RC car like this one (Rebound, Psycho,... etc.)... you should make them all! (and "if you were a kid in the 90s" guilty as charged, * 90s kids bro fist bump *) ^^
For me, the best RC car of my childhood was the one that splits. It had 3 parts, with the wheels on arms and can go upside down. I think Scrapman may have tried it a long time ago idk. But I did love the reference and throwback.
this reminds me that for a short while my grandma had a couple 90s RC cars floating around the house, and while neither of them really worked, they were still both really fun, one of them was a tyco rebound with a red and blue pickup truck shell, but the more interesting one that took me way longer to find in google, was a Taiyo Octo Spinner 360, or a knockoff of one since my memory insists it was double sided with red and yellow shell, and the only footage and photos i can find show it cannot drive upside down and has a black shell with flames
i'm currently 14 but when i was 8 my father bought me one and it was the coolest toy i've ever had (i am a fillipino teen so sorry for wrong spelling and grammar)
5:54 with the new level 5 gas engine, that is only true when hooked into a seat that you are sitting in, without giving inputs, or when it is set to off. Meaning if you hook a button/logic gate to it, it will lock when off.
5:30 Scrapman, it literally in the description of the two engines. Gas engine has a fixed speed but adjustable power. Electric engine has a fixed power but adjustable speed.
I had this one that would light up and also had wheels on the top so it could flip and still drive around. I don't remember what it was called but it was way more compact than this one was. Edit: It was called the Turbo twister.
CROSSFIRE! 90’s commercials were the best. I owned the TYCO RC DAGGER. You should try that next. It’s a 3 wheeled dragster wheelie machine with adjustable sliding front to back battery pack for weight distribution i.e. big or small or no wheelies. With tank steering in back 2 wheels and one wheel up front on double suppension. It was a beast. Also had the hammer but it’s just plane ol monster truck.
I had one of those, it was kinda neat but slower than you'd expect. the one that I _really_ liked was a car called "Rebound" it was just a cartoony "oversized tires" fully invertible little thing, it just plain drove good and could drive basically anywhere, including over water ^_^ or climbing trees with it
Wow i agree the best rc car out there had one also as a child and have to say even though you said you think it didn't wheelie as much thats actually quite accurate cause mine even came out with a wheelie bar at the tail fins cause it tend to wheelie or go for the back flip 😀 just brought back so many awesome childhood memories 😀 👏 😄 keep it up love this series
I actually had a similar toy this. I can't remember if it was an RC or not, but it did had this special part at the middle very back, like a snorkel i guess but it had small wheels at the end, allowing it to drive upside down. Those were the good days
Btw I was the one to tell him to adapt his content into real life... but he never saw the comment Anyway, ScrapMan/Billy you look like your enjoying it, so keep making this great content!

I just thought about the exact same thing when seeing this, I hope he does one of them too. It was so durable too!

I think i know the car. it was called a nite brite or something with brite wheels. It has clear plastic with ruby red panels

I had one of these as a kid in the late 2000s and I bet they're still popular. Truly an invention that has stood the test of time
I think it was just called the Cyclone for us in Australia. You could have added a piston up near the nose, to help with flipping it.
Here in the US they were also called cyclones at least when i had them (early 2000s) and there was a couple different variations. I remember one had wheelie bars on the back
I remember those commercial way too well HAHA I had the Tyco rebound and it was a blast. Thanks for making me feel even older now.
You don't know how nostalgic this made me feel. I actually still have something like this ontop my cabinet, its collecting dust right now heh.
Tantrums steering came from an angled steering axle, this way slight twists would allow it to steer without going into tantrum mode.
