Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic! Today I am replicating the Tsar Tank. A Russian concept consisting of two massive wheels with 1 smaller rear wheel for steering. It has multiple turrets all over to cover every angle. It was designed with large wheels in order to overcome the irregular terrain of the battlefield, but unfortunately a patch of soft ground was enough to bring it to a halt, and it was abandoned in that exact spot for 6 years until it was broken down into scrap. A sad end for such a massive machine. But today I plan to bring it back to life in Scrap Mechanic!

You might wanna check out and build the "Tactical Tree Crusher" that was used by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Would be interesting to see it.
they should have called it the tactical tree toppler
If only they used this in the Korean war, in the DMZ where they failed 2 operations to get rid of a tree
@@CorrupToast less that there were failed operations, and more that the Koreans brutally murdered a couple guys who went to chop the tree so the Army went "You wot? We're havin that tree down, mates."

Excellent build, seems like you nailed this one pretty well. Unfortunately, SM doesn't have soft terrain to test this on, so we can't test if it's truly superior, but it *looks* really good.
You could probably simulate soft terrain with interconnected blocks and loose Berings
@@DuoVersal i mean you could
but it would also lag to all hell
and probably glitch out
@@simonsoupshark8009 connect blocks by bearings and set physics to 1
@@DuoVersal Or use a field of suspension with blocks on, maybe 3x3 of blocks per suspension to cut down on the physics calculations
Add some modded ultra heavy blocks and all terrain becomes soft.
I love this historical failure series. The building edits were on point in this one.
I was about to comment that. 100% agree.
Eventually we gotta start making historical failures to continue this series
I really love this concept of you building failed projects from the past. It's just great and interesting to watch
Splendid editing! I really loved the building part of the video, the editing was seamless and it was quite satisfying. Hope to see stuff like this I future videos. Thanks, ScrapMan!!
Yes,and cync it with the music.
You said my thing, but first, and you already have visibility, so I'm just tossing in my support. I loved that whole bit.
The details of how he made the turrets with custom steering and an electric motor were great!
Just wanted to say that I love the edited building montage instead of the high-speed building montage that you usually do!
Love to see that you are interested in wacky WWI vehicles as well! I made the Tsar Tank on Scrap Mechanic with mods a while ago.
Scrap man is humbling these past inventors using his new age "video game" technology
esnumbyoucancallthatmentalfreeze
Another reason the tank was unusable was that the front wheels, which were made in a similar way to of a bike, were very much not resistant to any high caliber shots, since if you blew a hole into one part of the wheel, the whole wheel would collapse.
I really like the new editing stile (7:26) hope to see that in other videos too!
I do as well. Needs a little refinement. It was kind of jarring to me.
twas s a t i s f y i n g
This series is a little bit like YouDrawIBuild but the people who draws are Physicist and "expert" in War
I liked the montage (7:54), a good alternative to a timelapse
I'm really liking this historical machines series. It's very fun, quite accurate regarding the in-game builds, and informative! Really shows how far we have advanced in terms of engineering and development process
I think it could be interesting for MM to build this out of a less durable material (say metal 1 or concrete 1) and then put it through a cooperative obstacle course with tape bots and farm bots with one person driving and the others manning the side turrets
I absolutely love the short speed building segments! So satisfying!
Try a multiplayer team battle using it. Each team has 2 players, which together renovate one Tsar tank. There could be 4 rounds (Losing team decides where the next battle takes place), and on the last round, you switch tanks to see if it was the tank or the teamwork that wins. The building rules are as follows: Each team gets one cardboard version of the Tsar tank (tier 3 wood replaced with cardboard). ANY RENOVATIONS ARE ALLOWED, within the guidelines. No thrusters or glitches, the minimum number of blocks is the total on the cardboard Tsar tank, the max number of blocks is the minimum +500 (or whatever seems right to you). The max allowed spud guns is 5, and the minimum amount of cardboard is the amount on the cardboard Tsar tank. Also, no blocks that can't be blown up by explosives are allowed, and the only blocks that can be placed mid-fight are cardboard and explosives (assuming it's on your tank and not the enemy). If you took the time to read this insane essay of a youtube comment, I thank you, and hope you have a good day.
You have a good day to.
There’s a tank called the “ball tank”, there’s only one left after it was built. I think that would be interesting to build.
The KugelPanzer. Yes. It was more of mobile cover
was about to say, its less of a tank and more of a cover
Yes I was requesting this
That would be extremely difficult in any of the games he is currently playing. Namely because none of them have the weird "around the entire body" track/wheels that the KugelPanzer had. I mean he could do it in Scrap Mechanic, but he'd have to use mods to get everything to fit. But in a vanilla setting, I don't think any game he's playing has that kind of capability right now (the body tracks/wheels, gyro stability, small size all in one.)
@@crustybomb115 I would say it's actually more of a cover and less of a tank
All these historical machines/inventions are actually so cool
ok, i love this new recreate series. however, gathering what you have learned over your time on youtube what would be your creation of the most effective tank for all aspects of warfare, from manoeuvrability over all ground types, design, weight and size ect.
keep going dude, love the content
Pretty ironic that the whole thing may have worked, if they'd just had something like a deployable ski in the back, for when the wheel bogged down.
It wouldn't have worked what ever they had put back there. Center of mass is almost in the middle of the vehicle, meaning almost half of the mass is on the back end. Really bad design.
@@kasparroosalu And normal vehicles have similar weight distribution, what's your point?
If you spread it out enough that it doesn't dig in, then a vehicle works, if you don't, it doesn't.
thanks SO MUCH for doing historical builds. I think this might be your new series that will last you a long time for content.
I would love to see a version of the first submarine. Subs have an interesting history and that the first subs are similar yet different from the submarine of today. Also have been watching for years and still love all the consistent content!
Which one do you consider the first though?
Too many early semi-successful prototypes…
something I think would be interesting for your recreations of historic failures:
you make one refined version that stays faithful to the original form
like your improved panjandrum
and then made a far better version that changes the form as much as needed to make it viable
like if you gave the panjandrum a third wheel in the rear so those ram triggers you added would hit reliably
So cooooool! Please keep this series up, I'm completely immersed in it.
I really like this way of filming the building! A lot more fun than the time lapse with music
Love the history lesson mixed with gaming. Gives a great sense of scale and fun to watch it in action.
How about trying to build the Gasdynamic trawler “Progvev-T”. Its a mine clearing tank that wasn't very good at it. Considering the way it cleared mines was with a giant jet engine on the front of it.
w h a t 😟
Man loving this historical series
Here's one you may enjoy: the Tiger prototype put forth by Porsche featuring a diesel-electric drive, known as the Tiger (P). Its claim to fame is engine failure. They never got tested because the engines set themselves on fire before testing could even begin, leaving us with the Henschel design we know today as the Tiger 1. The Porsche prototype was never scrapped, however, as Porsche figured their design was so great that it couldn't possibly fail, and made 99 chassis. And instead of making something useful.. they put a big gun on them, added more weight, did nothing about the engines, called them Ferdinands, and sent them to Africa. Most losses were from.. engine failure. Who would've thought? The surviving ones were "gifted" with more armor, no engine upgrades, and given a new name: Elefant. Porsche was.. a little stubborn when it came to his diesel-electric drive.
Might be interesting to build one. You could set the engine power down to where it struggles to climb anything steeper than like, 1 degree. Not sure how to simulate an engine fire, though..
shorter coment pls
I come from the future to say above commenter is wrong, I very much enjoyed this history lesson, thank you for the time
I feel like that with modern technology, this has potential. Impractical? Yes. Cool to see in action? Also yes.
glad to see you trying out new things for editing and building
Multiplayer Monday where you battle each other with these historical creations
Or you have everyone on different guns in this battling bots
This series needs a name. Here's my suggestion: Horrible failures for history, or HFFH for short.
You can try hubless tank.
I'm sure editing the build process like this was annoying, but I just wanted to say I dig it. Loved hearing the pops for every piece you put down.
ScrapMan, This is fantastic! It is one of your best builds yet in my opinion! A+++, keep on making amazing creations like this! I have watched almost all of your videos and I have loved every single one!
I love this new little niche of videos scrapman, keep em coming!
Day 3 Stuff to make:
1.Kettenkrad
2.Antinov A-40 Flying tank
3.The Gustav
4.Zveno-SPB
5.Focke-Achgelis Fa-223 Drache
6.A-40
yes
@sara f What
Love the new building editing scenes man
both strong and cool this was one amazing design
this series has alot of potential given just how many wacky warmachine plans were made
Love the editing in the building section! Great videos back to back wohoooo
You should try making a Hafner Rotabuggy, its basiccly a jeep willis with a heli tali, it was developed during ww2.
I love the slight change in editing style
Eventually, Scrap man will accidentally make the perfect war vehicle
Multiplayer Monday Idea: Each of you takes one of your battle machines and fight waves of farmbots and see how long you can survive.
More no mad plsss I love your no mad episodes
Could you make a Da Vinci Tank. It is a cone shaped tank that spins around using centrifugal force to raise flaps revealing its cannons.
This might just be my favorite series of videos! I love the failed war machines!!!!!
You should try recreating the Da Vinci tank. It’s an interesting design and would fit in great with these other creations.
ruclips.net/user/shortslGiIex3mOFU da vinci?
Hey, i have a tip for you, if you don't have a dimention of something you usually can find drawings or plans in the internet, also on the internet you can find something like lenght, then you put a ruller to the screen, measure lenght of the thing and devide lenght of real thing by lenght that you measured and now you got yourself a scale of a drawing. By measuring dimentions of things that you need and multiplying it by the scale you get a real life dimention. This process can be reversed too.
Example:
Lenght of the tsar tank is 17,8m so 17 800mm
Lenght of the tsar tank on the drawing i found is around 34mm
17 800mm : 34mm ~ 524
So the drawing's scale is 1:524
We also need to calculate our scrap mechanic scale, for that i'll use wheel diameter witch is 9m so 9 000mm and in scrap mechanic you wanted to use 30 block wheel so
9 000mm : 30 = 300
Now we know that 1 block = 300mm
Distance between the weels on the drawing is 13mm
13mm × 524 = 6 812mm
Great, now we know the distance irl
6 812mm : 300 ~ 23 blocks
I know you know how the scale works beacuse you passed primary scool but I wanted to show you how easily you can use it to make accurate builds in scrap mechanic.
You know what I whant to see in scrap mechanic? Gigant cardboard battle tanks and castles and other war things and there to be a full war with giant creations, i don't know if there is a limit to the amount of players in a server but it would be cool to see multi person creations fighting it out in a war style battle.
Random thought: I think the farm bots chem shot should dye the blocks on creations temporarily. Going into water cleans it instantly otherwise it fades the next day or two. Good vid Scrapman.
I like the new building montage, very satisfying.
I like your new cut at building its lika a small montage. I think its better.
I love this series!
I like how you edited you making the right-most turret 13:14
IT'S LIKE TSAR BOMBA BIG AND POWERFUL
Idea: Nomad multiplayer survival series. Either now, or when Chapter 2 is launched. Have at least 4-5 people for the series, even if not all are online at the same time. You, Kan, Kosmo, Moonbo, and Dapper.
I really liked the editing in this video :)
Boy, do i hope he keeps doing these videos
Next you could have a look at the Baby Asault Tank concept, or anything else designed by Mr. Tinsley, like his underwater tank for example
"I'm going out to get some oil, just wait here."
Alone?
Love the little build montages
Commander: Shoot the wheels!
Enemy: We have been hit! We can't move!
Commander: Hah! Your spokes are futile.
I like the fast edit building👍
You should name this serious: Learning history with Scrapman
Could be a challenge in a Multiplayer Monday.
Players vs Bots, going around the map to complete objectives _(i.e: base camps swarming with Bots)_ and try to finish them without getting destroyed.
during ww2 Germany used tank wheel layout known as overlapping wheel suspension. This was used to solve the problem of smaller wheels rubber wearing away too quickly. If the used larger wheels they would wear away slower but wouldn't have as much surface pressure leading to similar problems as the tsar tank. But they had the idea to overlapped the wheels leading to the benefit of both wheel types, Wikipedia has an interesting bit on it that would go into more detail. My idea would be to try to recreate that in scrap mechanic with treads but if its to laggy then just the wheels would be cool. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
I loved montage in that so much
The panzer 8 was the largest tank ever and only got to the prototype stage before it was captured by the Soviets. It would be amazing to see it be made in scrap mechanic
I love the new editing style! Personally I think you should try adding some partially quite music though.
the build edit was so cool. luv it
Maybe try out a "Walking Dot"? USSR 1942 project of "walking" fortification. It actually could work out, but tanks were just more prioritized.
A gyrocopter in trailmakers would be AWESOME. It’s a helicopter mixed with a plane but the rotor on top is unpowered and it flies like a plane with an insanely low descent speed
SMGR
The tank is so bad, they left it! (in the tone of the yo mama joke)
it would’ve been very interesting to see these tank on the battlefield
i remember building one a year back with my friends but even building it to be a somewhat functioning machine was very hard.I can imagine how hard it was to build irl
Scrap man should play space engineers. It has every wedge he could ever need
For some unknown reason, he reminds me of keanu reeves all the time while watching his videos.
I assume now we get a special obstacle course with bots for a very special COOP Multiplayer Monday Edition, where you drive through this course with all guns manned just to see how good it goes.
Perhaps several runs.
1. Only first person allowed
2. Only third person allowed
3. Everyone decides for himself and also can switch whenever he wants
0:23 Me, pointing at the screen and shouting excitedly: "Aha! I'm at the bottom!"
Try Building the Shredder Drone for the move pls!!!
Also loved the video!!!
Editing better than previous SB vids of yours I've seen, good work
Woo! I wasn't the only one to suggest it, but it was one of my suggestions!
Would love to see you attempt the antarctic snow cruiser. I know it would be a big build but maybe do it over 2 episodes
I love these videos when you build failed war machines, keep the good work up :)
I know I am late but for future challenges, if you want to simulate different ground hardness(add pistons to bottom of suspension and logic to be able to reshape obsticals) make a field of suspension with blocks on top
Other players- Pretending to be good at the game.
Scrapman- Making failures into sucsess
"the concept of failure doesn't have to be a negative thing as long as it's entertaining."- ScrapMan 2022
i am loving this kind of content scrapman keep doing it if you love doing it love you!
the issue with shooting the Wheels should be relatively eas to fix, by adding stoppers to each side of the turret, so it cant physically turn into the Wheels.
In early Fighterplanes, the installed a link between the MGs and the Motor, then synchronized it. This Way, the MGs couldnt fire in the splitsecond, when the Rotorblade was in front of the MG.
This allowed them to fire through the Rotor without destroying the Blades. I guess the Engineers for this Tank could invent something similiar.
My main issue with the original of this tank is: Its big, its heavy... and the Wheels are THIN. No wonder it got stuck in soft Ground. For all-terrain movement, you need wide Wheels to spread the Weight. I would say triple these big wheels and it would have worked better.
"Alright It's stuck let's just leave it"
"Alright then"
,
*Exits turret*
"Aaah crap"
"What happened comrade?"
"I'm glitched in the roof again!"
"Oh c'mon!"
i really liked the editing in this video
I miss you're videos I haven't watch you're video for 3 years you look different but I still support you 😄👍
You should try to create the Nikko VaporizR RC car!
It has tank steering, and can float and drive on water. It's pretty cool, and would be interesting to see how you'd do it in a video game.
you should make a kugupanza also known as the ball tank please make it. keep up the amazing work!
In this game you should try to build the British "little willie" tank it had a similar turning system but used tracks, so it will be rather unique I think, really hope you will make the tank, or tonk.
@ScrapMan if you want to be the Head of Historical Experimental Scrap Mechanic Machineries Ministry's Laboratory your Scrap Mechanic world needs at least an office, test track, hangar for all your experimental vehicles and a runway. If you can build all these things, you will get your title 🙂Looking forward to your future videos, i really enjoy this series!
Yoooo that building montage is Soo cool use that more
