I saw Powderfinger support Pantera back in '94 when they only had an EP out. They were pretty much a grunge band back then. Silverchair was on that bill, too. They and Powderfinger went on to become arguably the biggest local acts over the next 15 years.

I edited the entertainment liftout for the top-selling Brisbane newspaper at the time, and we loved the band and were determined to help them break nationally. George was another project and also Kasey Chambers. Never understimate the power of the media to make things happen ...

They really have a distinct sound and not every band has that . They were huge in their day in Australia.
