Coming from an Irish person; your dad is the most stereotypical Irish dad I’ve seen in a while. Fixes stuff himself, doesn’t talk much, butter on every sandwich (more of an old fashioned thing, personally I can’t stand butter on sandwiches). He reminds me of my grandparents! 😅
I grew up in NJ and I also never thought I would end up living in Ohio. I had trouble even finding it on the map before I moved here. I still have three words that give away where I'm from; coffee, drawer, and mirror. Glad you got to go home and recharge.

When I was 14 my parents sent me to go live with my Aunt and Uncle in North Babylon. A teen from Reno sent to New York to go to school. I remember teachers making fun of my “accent” compared to New Yorkers.

i live in lower manhattan! it doesn't need to be expensive - i spend around $2k a month including rent. you do have to be careful about your spending though! NYC living adds up quickly

If you think New York is expensive, try living in Australia! There was an article that came out yesterday in Australia saying we are one of the most expensive places to live in the world. It's expensive to rent/buy a house, petrol (American's call it gas for cars) is really expensive, food is much more expensive (we don't tip over here), clothes are more expensive, everything is more expensive!

When you talked about dropping your accent, I felt that lol When I started working in business and traveling everywhere for my job, I would get asked to repeat everything and asked where I am from - even by people in my home state. I'm from the South, but I have a very strong "country" accent, too. Think rural Appalachian region, and go thicker with it lol I was advised by several mentors and supervisors to try to flatten out the way I speak so I could be taken more seriously as a professional. And I did. Try, that is. I just never could do it. The times I thought I was doing it, I found out I just sounded really weird, like maybe I had a speech impediment. I eventually gave up and embraced it. Even leaned into it. I realized it was an ice breaker when meeting new people, we always had THAT to talk about and it worked to my advantage, because most people found it "endearing."
It's called a chocolate egg cream because years and years ago it used to have an egg in it! I think they took it out because when the soda fountains became popularized, putting fresh eggs in the drinks became unprofitable, so they changed the recipe to what its known as now :)

I don't live in NYC but I live in DC and I can agree EVERYTHING is more expensive. Going out to dinner can easily add up to $50 with just a basic entree and a mixed drink. A haircut is $90+ and it's a struggle
I understand about accents. I'm from Texas and when I moved to Maryland I would get an occasional " where are you from" question because apparently I say words like right, light, tight funny lol... I've been here 16 years now and I think it's pretty much gone now, except on occcasion I catch myself...and hearing my mom talk on the phone is hysterical...defintely has that Texas twang!!

I lived on the edge of NYC for two years, and honestly, you just get used to it🤷🏼♀️. I think too because I was a single young woman at the time, it was easier to fend for myself.
Oh I feel your moms pain my husband is one of the best carpenters in Cincinnati he has done houses in hyde park, indiana hill new condos down town really all over he was one of the carpenters that did Paula Tote's house & he went to school with Bob Herzog! But its amazing to see his work just wish he do some of it at our house lol we bought it 2 years ago so we still have time but I have some many projects I want done. But we also have 4 young children so we do want to wait on some things till they are older. But I get it to her works hard in the winter he is tired & in the summer it's all about our yard & pool! Is your dad a wood hoarder? Mine is he could do so much with what he has but it just in neat piles lol. I'm about to start using to do DIY stuff maybe open & esty store. Hope you enjoyed your trip but cincy is a great city so much has been done to it & like you said it's not to small but not to big & plenty to do!

I don't live in NYC but I live in DC and I can agree EVERYTHING is more expensive. Going out to dinner can easily add up to $50 with just a basic entree and a mixed drink. A haircut is $90+ and it's a struggle

I understand about accents. I'm from Texas and when I moved to Maryland I would get an occasional " where are you from" question because apparently I say words like right, light, tight funny lol...
I've been here 16 years now and I think it's pretty much gone now, except on occcasion I catch myself...and hearing my mom talk on the phone is hysterical...defintely has that Texas twang!!

I lived on the edge of NYC for two years, and honestly, you just get used to it🤷🏼♀️. I think too because I was a single young woman at the time, it was easier to fend for myself.
Oh I feel your moms pain my husband is one of the best carpenters in Cincinnati he has done houses in hyde park, indiana hill new condos down town really all over he was one of the carpenters that did Paula Tote's house & he went to school with Bob Herzog! But its amazing to see his work just wish he do some of it at our house lol we bought it 2 years ago so we still have time but I have some many projects I want done. But we also have 4 young children so we do want to wait on some things till they are older. But I get it to her works hard in the winter he is tired & in the summer it's all about our yard & pool! Is your dad a wood hoarder? Mine is he could do so much with what he has but it just in neat piles lol. I'm about to start using to do DIY stuff maybe open & esty store. Hope you enjoyed your trip but cincy is a great city so much has been done to it & like you said it's not to small but not to big & plenty to do!
