  • I was going to put this disclaimer at the beginning of the video, but I'll just put it here: this is definitely not one of my happy positive videos and I actually wasn't even going to upload it. (I filmed it weeks ago before Halloween.) BUT...it is life and I'm always a fan of keeping it real, so here you go!

    I went to a sleep therapist type person because I had terrible insomnia and she told me you cant catch up on sleep so stop trying. 😂 So that sleep is gone sister, tell it goodbye and get new sleeps.

    Sometimes when I’m extremely tired it’s even harder for me to fall asleep. It almost has the opposite effect on me and I start to feel wired/anxious. I hope you start getting better sleep!!

      Me too! Whenever I ask family or friends if they get nauseous when they are really tired, they just do not understand. It is relieved the second I lie down and close my eyes. I am just glad to hear someone else experiences it as well!!

      Same, and coffee doesn’t help at all. Just makes me more nauseous. It goes away after a couple of hours for me

    Did you know there is no such thing as “catching up on a night of sleep” once you lose those hours they are lost. Learned this in college in a health studies class

    something that helps me when i feel anxiety about how much sleep I get is that your body is resting. even if you are not actually sleeping your body is resting which still helps

    Ah Clancy, I am glad that you DID upload this video because I am sure most people find it so relatable. I know I did. When you have a day that seems to be progressively getting worse sometimes you just have to complain and laugh later about it!
    Plus, I was cracking up at you covering your lipstick teeth with a big emoji. You're such a goofball and that is why so many of us love watching you! You're real. Please don't let the positivity police change that! 😉

    Clancy put the non-emergency police # in your contacts list! You can call them and let them know what's going on. I have the local police # in my phone just in case there's a sketchy situation I'm not sure of that hasn't escalated to 911 territory.

      Yes!! So smart!! Also, learn the highway patrol emergency number as well! I was on the freeway once and I saw someone who was either heavily under the influence or was having a medical emergency (either way, endangering the lives of everyone else and themselves because they couldn't maintain their lane and were driving an SUV that would roll easily). I thought calling 911 was what I should do, but when I called them, the dispatcher told me that highway patrol has a different number (*647) to call for things like that and they had to transfer me so I could tell the next dispatcher what I was seeing. I had no ideal that, at least in my state, you have to specifically call highway patrol for things like that!

      It’s called polyphasic sleep, and it honestly only really works if you are getting sleep & calculating the hours so that it adds up to 8 hours. When you first do it, you will be the most tired you have ever been but once you get a routine many ppl do just fine

    so this week i’ve been going to bed around 1230am and getting up at 4am.. i drive for fedex so it’s our busy season and i’ve been getting hardly any sleep.
    my mother in law said it could be if you’ve got a lot on your mind or your stressed. i’m going out for surgery in 2 weeks plus the stress of christmas.
    so try having a clear mind!

    I have a lot of issues with trying to sleep. I’ve had insomnia off and on since I was a kid (I’m 59) and I have PTSD. Try 4/7/8 breathing. Inhale 4 seconds thru your nose, hold for 7, breathe out thru your mouth for 8. Do this four times in a row. Helps with anxiety. I have memorized Psalm 91 and Ephesians 6:10-17 and say it in my head or out loud if needed. I know it’s difficult, but try to not get anxious about not falling asleep. Grab a book and read. Get a pencil and paper and write out any thoughts going thru your mind. Try to not nap or at least not very long during the day. If I nap even 15 minutes, I will be up until 4 or 5am. You’ll get back in your normal routine! Hang in there! 😘

    that's so tough because once you have one or two sleepless nights the anxiety about not being able to sleep is sooo intense. I feel you on this Clancy, it has definitely happened to me a few times. It seems like you were able to sleep friday night because there was no anxiety about having to wake up early for work the next morning. In any case, I hope you get some rest and the sleep things gets better. Take care of yourself!

    It looks like you hit a wall. You might need to switch to a nice day shift job in news. I did shit work for 8 years while in my 20’s. I made a lot of money but I didn’t sleep for 8 years. I think being so young got me through it. Good luck and keep up the good work.

    Clancy! 😭😭 I feel so bad for you that you couldn't sleep. That is the worst feeling. I have been known to physically get sick from exhaustion (upset stomach, fever, emotional breakdowns), so I can relate. So glad you got some sleep and hope that it gets better!

    I feel your pain when I have my alarm set for 3am for an 8 hour shift I struggle to sleep. I'd have so much anxiety about if my alarm doesn't go off, if I've forgotten to set it so I'm checking it multiple times and I always finally fall asleep about half hour to an hour before the alarm goes off

    I've had sleep paralysis a few times and it is the scariest thing!! Sometimes it'll be on the couch and it's like an out of body experience where I can see my boyfriend next to me but I can't move, I freak out and try screaming at him to wake me up but he obviously cant hear me because im "sleeping"... other times I'm in bed and the ceiling will start to bleed black and a tall dark figure will be standing at the foot of my bed and then it feels like there's a hundred pounds on my chest. I HATE it, haven't had it in a while but I've found out that if you try to wiggle your fingertips you will come out of it. Love your videos Clancy, you keep it raw and real ❤

      I have that every now and then it was really bad when me and my husband were at a time where we were stressed out. Had the EXACT same experience as you. Its very scary.

      @@SummaSummaTime_ oh yeah i think stress is what causes it for me too! When I had a couple episodes within a week I did not want to go to sleep for fear it would happen again which obviously made it worse lol 🙃 it also hurts my jaw which I grind my teeth in my sleep anyways so thats fun too

      @@lizzieathey556 yea it’s pretty common for people to get sleep paralysis while sleeping on their back, maybe you could find a way to prevent that.

    Clancy, your schedule is so crazy. I hope one day you can have more of a 9 to 5. I work mornings to afternoons and I always get tons of sleep. Everything is very normal

    This video was a roller coaster ride! When you were saying that you only got 1 hour of sleep the second night I was like, "Nooooooo!!" and then when you said you slept 10 hours I was like, "YAY!!! Oh good!" And I was like, "OH MAN," freaking out when that police was around you! Glad everything is okay 🙂

    I've had that before that once I have a bad night of sleep then every night afterwards I struggle to fall asleep! For me I think it was due to anxiety, and then I was scared to try to fall asleep because I feared it would be another restless night! It's a vicious cycle, I feel you!

    Honestly Clancy, after watching this video I feel sooo blessed in so many ways...! Like, my sleep is always amazing and I get to live every day and I always take that for granted. I do hope that you can develop a good sleeping schedule, because exhaustion is not good. I know it’s easier said than done, but when I learned to calm myself down about not having enough sleep, I actually got more sleep! Some things that help me are using earplugs to block out even any small noise (this is literally the #1 thing). I also like to wind down like at least 1/2 - 1 hour before bed, for my body to get into the mood for sleeping. If my thoughts are racing I grab a book and read or watch Bob Ross (no seriously, I almost always fall asleep to him 😂). But either way, don’t be too hard on yourself! Not many people can wake up at 2AM lol

    I also work on night shifts. I also messed up my sleep schedule this week. It is currently exactly one hour before I have to go to work, and I haven’t got any sleep yet. Can totally relate...

    I have such bad sleeping problems too. I have to take a prescription to sleep every night. Even then, every so often, my insomnia will still act up. I totally understand that feeling if being so exhausted that you feel sick to your stomach. It's the worst! I hope you got more days of good rest after that!

    Hi Clancy, I feel your pain. I do that, only infrequently. I think I got a couple of hours sleep the last time, and dragged around like zombie. And just like you, took about 2.5 days to feel better. 2nd day, not enough sleep, then the marathon sleep. Also, I rarely sleep over 7 hours.
    Glad you are back to your regular schedule. Mask on, and carry on.

    I would have been freaked out about the cop too! You did the right thing staying in your car and keeping in touch with your photographer. Hope your insomnia was temporary. I get that too sometimes if my mind is not relaxed.

    I JUST had a day where I was outside and busy alll day long running on three hours of sleep and I literally went through so many phases of feeling awful throughout the day but by the end of the day I was truly so dizzy I couldn’t see straight 🙃 I can’t imagine 1 hour!

    When I would get sleep anxiety I would just remind myself that if my body needs to sleep it will. No need to force it!

    8-9 hr work days I wish at times. So luv the work vids I screak when it just rains afraid it will ruin my makeup just imagine being a reporter 😮. Those earrings are great btw. You freaked out a cop 😂.

      When she made the phone call in the car I forgot that her photographer is called Brian and I thought she was calling that cop that knows her ("Nothing says fancy like Clancy!") hahaha

      I was dropping a friend off after work around 1 AM one night, and she wanted to finish telling me a story, so I parked by a park so her neighbors wouldn't hear my car running and bother them. I had my running lights on but headlights off (basically I wanted to avoid someone hitting my car with us inside of it) and that attracted the attention of a police officer. He made a very slow u-turn and then pulled in behind me with his lights on and he came to my window. The first thing he told me is he needed to make sure we weren't dealing drugs because it's apparently very common at that park, so two people sitting in a car in the middle of the night at a park was suspicious (very reasonable. I fully understand). He ran our names and when he found out neither of us were drug dealers, he was polite and said he was sorry for bothering us, but he kid had to make sure, which makes perfect sense to me!
      Usually when police see just one or two random cars in a parking lot, especially a park one, in the middle of the night, they become suspicious because typically its someone doing something they shouldn't.

    I would say you just had a peek into what POC and black folks experiences all the time with the police. That abject terror and not know what to do to make them feel safe so they don’t hurt you, is a very real and not at all ridiculous line of thinking.

    Okay lol this is gonna be a longer one. Hi I'm Gabby. 27 I used to work stupid crazy hours. (USAF). So I'm seeing everything I went through in your videos sometimes, lol. This is gonna sound silly, but trust me it works. So when you go to laydown for the night, try relaxing your tongue, once you relax your tongue, try and relax your jaw line, then your shoulders. Sometimes your body gets stressed without letting you know. Also! A stretch before bed will help you get all loosy goosy! Lemme know if this works! Love your videos!

    Honestly you look very refreshed, not at all like you only slept an hour. When I get little sleep, my eyes are bloodshot all day and everyone tells me me how tired I look, even with makeup on. So, you’re lucky in that aspect.:))

    Oh man I had awful night terrors as a kid too. They feel so real and the images are so vivid that the they’re still burned in my memory to this day. I still get them on rare occasions, but luckily they’re few and far between now.

    The same thing happened to me all through my 20's. No joke, it started when I turned 20 and tapered off after 30. I'm 34 now. I would wake up screaming because I'd see someone standing over me, in the doorway, or at the foot of the bed with extreme detail. I have never known of another person who experienced that too :o

    I’ve dealt with very similar for years Clancy. Sorry you have to deal with it. I know folks tend to brush it off and ignore but I can honestly tell you that when I finally gave in and asked my doctor to try ambien, which he had offered numerous times and my ego said no, I finally started turning it around. If you follow your doctor directions ambien can help.

    I feel you! Since two weeks or so, I cannot sleep anymore. I fall asleep around 2 am and wake up around 4am. It is soooo annoying! Two days ago I started drinking a tea with melatonin and guess what? Now I sleep, but in the morning I feel like having the worst hangover ever! 😡

    I know what you mean by feeling like you're going to puke of exhaustion! Whenever I'm sleep deprived I feel nauseated and like I could vomit any moment. It's terrible!

    You may have taught me something today. I have been waking up seeing things. Always different things. I had sparkles all above me a couple nights before, spiders crawling the walls couple of weeks ago.. I even had a pile of wrapped presents at the side of my bed that were piled so high. The only time they disappear is when I turn my light on. My heart beats so fast and it’s quite scary when it happens. I have even woke up to my husband being there but he had a different face.

    Hey Clancy. I struggle with sleep now that I’m pregnant. My doctor recommended unisom. Half a tablet. So you’re not knocked out but you will fall asleep. I usually sleep for 5 hours when I take it.

    I always have trouble sleeping when I put too much "pressure" on myself to go to sleep, but it is so hard not to sometimes, so when that happens i take a melatonin and that works for me!

    Girl I understand completely where you're coming from about the sleeping probs. I did not have night terrors as a child, but I would fight sleep. I remember laying in my bed, in my room plugging my ears and being totally covered up by my blanket and force myself to go to sleep. I was always afraid that something was going to get me. I think it may have to do with something that happened to me at a family member's house when I was around 6 yrs old, spending the night. and I woke up from sleep in the middle of the night to someone "holding me" over them, and it was a scary thing for me to have to go through as a child. All my life I've had a fear of something or someone grabbing me by my feet in the bed. Still to this day, I make sure that my blankets are flat all the way across at the foot of the bed with no air pockets. And 85 percent of the time, when I wake up I will squirm my feet around to make sure their still their.

    My sister has night terrors, and it makes me so sad. She will wake up in the middle of the night and just scream and cry. She's only 6, so I hope it goes away when she's older.

    I have a very hard time with sleep, falling asleep, staying asleep and I walk, talk and eat in my sleep lol so I finally tried melatonin. It worked amazingly well for putting me to sleep but it made my night terrors unbearable! They were so much more vivid and real and they were constant! It was awful.

    I don't wake up nearly as early as you, normally just at 6am but most of my friends would have jobs where they could get up at 9 or even 10 am (and then they would work till 7 or 8). I sometimes get so much anxiety about not getting enough sleep, that I too would not sleep at all. I've been there and know it sucks.

    Drinking chamomile tea before bed might help a bit! I’ve been getting in the habit of making a cup almost every night, and I can definitely tell that I don’t sleep as well on nights I don’t have any. Might be worth a shot if you feel not so sure about taking a sleep supplement. It’s really great at gently calming yourself down!

    I work at a coffee shop (no not starbucks) and I have had days where I’ve only gotten an hour of sleep and have to be at work by 5 to open 😫 it’s awful. I can’t say it’s the worst cause the worst is having to go to work with a hangover. But it’s up there!
