I like Suunto very much. All black models are astonishing. But the lag between transitions is awkward in 2023. Perhaps in the future more fluid movements will convince me to choose it against Apple Watch.

As suunto fan, apple is superior for daily athletes that dont venture for days off grid. Offline music, all the toys and gadgets for smartphone, maps, gps. What does suunto has against it? Battery and design, also solar.

I don't like this comparison. The Apple watch is a full featured smart watch for general purpose use and should be considered against other watches in this category, like the Google Pixel. The Suunto Vertical, and now Suunto Race, are tools for athletes. The Vertical is more general and the Race is more specific to endurance athletes. If you want to call and chat with Karen while you gently stroll on the treadmill and annoy your fellow patrons at the gym a couple of times per month then the Suunto will not serve you but the Apple Watch will. If you are an ultra distance cyclist, triathlete, runner, swimmer and hiker, like me, then the Apple Watch just is not an option but the Suunto Race is an indispensable, mission critical tool. Oh, and Suunto actually develops technology, they don't STEAL it... So, there's that...

The Ultra also sucks for any serious backcountry activities! I still haven't found a way to completely avoid accidentally pausing/ending a workout. That never happens with my Suunto!

I charged my race on Sunday morning, did 3 hours at the gym Sunday, ran for over an hour on Monday, ran again for about 45 minutes on Tuesday, track mmy sleep every night and use the watch normally. The battery today, wednesday, is aat 87%. I would have charged the Ultra at least three times by now with that level of activity and usage. Not comparable.

Can you run a 200 mile ultra with the Ultra 2? Can you bike a 500 mile ultra with the Ultra 2? No? Well, you can with the Suunto.

Apple Ultra has a few mistakes, it says it can go 100m but the diving app only tracks up to 40m. so kinda pointless from a real diving companion.
