You are correct , i often found myself including to much in the composition when standing at the location....and than later on i had to trow away half the pixels and loose time to get a better composition by cropping. Imho what to include or not is not a simple task just looking trough a tiny viewfinder or via a 3" lcd. You often only see what could have been better when viewing your photo's on a bigger screen. What i have in my camera bag lately is a thin black plastic frame with a rectangular cutout that has the same aspect ratio that my camera has. Instead of moving camera or adjusting tripod or just zooming in and out....i can frame a better composition a lot faster by moving that plastic frame closer or further away from my eyes. Than i try to get the ideal composition dialed in by pointing/placing camera and tripod at that best spot.
