Just a perspective that may add a little to this idea (a philosophy of mind) as you choose your path in life. I taught a range of communication and management units at University from undergraduate to post-graduate level. University courses over several years of progression require a deep and extensive theoretical base underpinning them. That means a course will not get Academic Board approval if it is not supported by academic scope and depth. When I taught Photography, it was mostly to adults with a deep passion for the subject, along with fellow academics and High School teachers. They all valued the course as it evolved from semester to semester. We started with Visual Literacy and then a sneaky exercise - photograph five doorknobs, process the film, and then print the five pictures in the darkroom. There was zero digital. It was all film. The five doorknobs opened direct insights into the exposure triangle and depth of field. It eased students into zone focusing and using the controls on the camera. It was always about visual literacy and ways of seeing. In the end, it was only about mastering one master essential - light. You are spot on.
Thank you 🙏🏽 A great philosophy of mind and I fully agree that mastering light is mastering your camera. I have actually heard of these kinds of exercises in photography schools. It really forces the student understand different aspects to consider when photographing.
Great video. I will definitely have to get this book. I saw two others on your shelf that own... Rick Reuben and Atomic Habbits. I loved this video. Just subbed your channel. I love street as well.

My mantra is: observe, anticipate & capture. This is in a way essentialism the way you describe it, I guess.
Great mantra 👌🏽 and it gets you out on the streets to shoot 📸
