    Hello! Just watched your video (7/11/2023) and I also own the 520 set of colors and without knowing much about color pencils, have loved them. As a first color pencil user, I find your reviews very helpful. Look forward to your past and future videos.

    I have the Kalour 520 set and have had no issue with breakage, even with sharpening to a super fine point and then applying a lot of pressure. My sharpener is the AFMAT Long Point Pencil Sharpener and it is excellent!!!

    • @kraftsbykmw7971
      @kraftsbykmw7971  4 месяца назад

      Hi! I'm so glad you aren't having any problems with your Kalour. I wish that was the same with me. I really wanted to love them. But in addition to the breakage (which I do think happened during shipping) they don't layer or blend as well as I think they should. I have an AFMAT too and I love it. It's definitely not an issue with the sharpener.

    • @michellechalmers8753
      @michellechalmers8753 3 месяца назад

      @kraftsbykmw7971 That really is a shame about the breakage. I guess I got super lucky. I've had no problem with blending but the layering is an issue - I feel like it maxes out pretty quickly. I still love them, though, but again probably because I got lucky. Question: have you considered the Brutfuners? So many say they are exactly the same as the Kalour but the Brutfuners claim to be much more oil-based. The coloring pencil journey is so darn treacherous at times because the great pencils are cost-prohibitive, and the budget pencils are a tale of hits and misses. I still love it, though - best hobby ever! ❤️

    I have the Brutfuner Macarons, and love them! I also have the Brutfuner square pencils, and the Brutfuner 520 set, which is hands down my favorite budget pencil set. I haven’t bought into Kalour pencils, and I won’t. I sa another video about the regular set, and seems that quality control isn’t their priority. This is a great video! Thank you!

  • @nicole_silvers

    I'm thinking that maybe they were dropped or slammed around during shipping because I have that exact same set and I've never had any problems with sharpening them. Only trouble I've had is when I used one as a base color and then tried to go over it with Prismas to do shading and it didn't work well. The wax in the Prismas kept leaving little clumps of color and it was hard to get it to smooth out. I love using the Kalour pastel pencils, but they just didn't mix well with Prismas. But other than that, I really like how they feel when you color with them! I sharpen mine with a Dahle 133. But it doesn't seem like the issue you're having is from the sharpener. I really believe that they had to be dropped or carelessly tossed around during shipping! I'm sorry to hear that you had this trouble with them and didn't get to enjoy them like you should have been able to! It's hard telling what our packages go through while they're on their way being shipped to us!

    • @kraftsbykmw7971
      @kraftsbykmw7971  Год назад +4

      Yes, I'm thinking that too. But it is still really disappointing. I'm glad you like yours. I really wanted to, but I just don't find them pigmented enough or easy to use. I am using the Brutfuners much more.
      I can't remember if I mentioned this in the video but the company, seeing my review on Amazon, gave me my money back. I am so impressed with that and though I'm not sure I'll try their pencils again, I will definitely try other art products they sell because of their great customer service.

      @@kraftsbykmw7971 Yea I totally understand your hesitation after having a bad experience. And if the Brutfuner's are what you prefer then I say go for it! With art and coloring, it's about enjoying the process, and if you don't enjoy using certain pencils then it's hard to enjoy coloring! And each person has their opinions and preferences. I've heard people say great things about a certain brand of pencils, but then other people have a negative opinion about them. So it boils down to each individual's preference. I've never tried the Brutfuner pencils, but maybe I would prefer them over the Kalour if I tried them. I don't use my Kalour pencils often though. I usually use Prismas or Polychromos. And yes, you did mention in the video that they offered you a refund because they saw your review! I think that's awesome! I really appreciate companies that care about their customer's experience with their products! But I totally understand if you don't enjoy using the Kalour pencils because if you don't enjoy using certain pencils then it takes the fun out of coloring which defeats the purpose! I wish you the best with your coloring journey! Nice talking to you!

    I have both sets and use a hand sharpener v to use on both. Mine is a kum. I have not had the problem with either set. Macaroons and pastels are meant to be soft colors not really deep in color like it sounds like you were expecting.

      Thanks for your comment. I think my Kalour set got damaged in shipping. It's very disappointing.
      I wanted soft colors. Softness and pigmentation are different in my view. Colors can be soft but pigmented. It's my opinion that the Kalour are not very pigmented and not as pigmented as the Brutfuner. I have to press a lot harder to get opacity and "deeper" color with the Kalour.
      I am using both and I like the colors in both. I just like the Brutfuners better.

    Everyone colors different - heaviness of hand will not be the same. Some people can make art with Crayola pencils that look amazing, and some can't do much with Prismas or Faber.
    I tried Faber, did not suit how I colored at the time and sent them to a friend.

    • @kraftsbykmw7971
      @kraftsbykmw7971  Год назад +2

      Great, I'm so glad. Yes, everyone does color differently. I am more of a one or two layer person as opposed to coloring lightly and adding up to 10 layers. I think that's why the Brutfuners work better for me. And yes, you are right that some people use Crayolas and do amazing things with them. I'm not a big fan and I find they work better on certain papers, but that's just me. I've never tried Faber Castell pencils - I have their gelatos and I love them but I have several sets of colored pencils already and I'm not buying more for a while. Thanks for watching!

      To answer your question again, as I addressed this in the video, if a company is going to say that a pencil set is artist quality, highly pigmented, blendable. and layerable as well as lightfast, I expect them to be. The Kalour's definitely aren't. They work okay for the money, but when it's stated that they are better than they are, I am going to call that out. I also mentioned that for the money, the Brutfuners are reasonably pigmented, blendable, and layerable and are better on all of those fronts than the Kalour. If someone said they were similar to Prismacolor or Polychromos etc in certain ways or why they weren’t it would be easy to understand how they performed from one’s own experience with a brand.
