OMG, thank you so much for mentioning that you can use the packaging from Akko switches as a lube station. I can't believe I didn't think of that, it's so brilliantly obvious. I just bought two sets of akko silent penguins and thankfully I didn't throw the boxes out yet! 🙏
I liked your explanations on what to lube and when! I’ve seen tons of lubing videos but none that call out why you would lube certain parts of a switch, and what noises are fixed
I think a lot of those videos focus on the "right" way of lubing a linear or tactile switch. for me, I wanted to make a video that could apply to everyone and their sound/feel tastes, even the specific switch they are lubing. It's all about that preference. Thanks for the kind feedback!
I just want to say how is such a pleasure to watch your videos. Light, voice, effects, camera, everything is so well done... Wish you the best and it's just a matter of time to be huge... Cheers I am not even into the art of modding, just got a good kb and that's it.
love the haircut! That length looks really nice I personally only focus on the bottom housing regardless of the switch, and usually I don't even bother with the stem (aside from maybe the stem pole). IMO the only bits that need lubing are the stem rails and the leaf so you don't get any leaf ping (and springs too ig), but it's all about preference :)
You're not wrong - there are a few sets of switches i've done this to. Especially the higher end switches, i don't feel that they need the stem lube most of the time.
Great video! I used to binge lube all my switches in one go, and that was so tiring. Nowadays I do it in batches of 10-20 at a time, takes not as long and keeps me busy, heck I even only lube my alpha areas :D
The PSA at the end helped me ease my worries. I just got into custom keyboards and recently lubricated my switches (KTT Kang Whites). I was worried I may have applied less lube cuz I only lubricated the springs, bottom housing, only the two protruding sides of the stem and left the top housing as it is. It still sounded good and felt really smooth. But I was worried that I may have been missing out on certain aspects of the switch for not following a certain way. Thank you for this video! Got a sub from me!
The video and instructions were quick and efficient just like how you lube your switches! Im completely new to keyboards and have been watching a lot of videos. Maintenance for custom keyboards can seem really overwhelming to newcomers. This video was very helpful and definitely took away some of that anxiety. I originally wanted 75 or 80% keyboard. But now I think 65 is a better choice.
what's your opinion on only lubing the springs and slightly lubing a bit more on the stems to compensate for the housing? this method is done by Badseed Tech who got it from Andy V Nguyen, and it seems to be a decent method as long as the stock switch is decently smooth. I've tried it on my akko jelly pink switches, and it seems to work well.
I use a small gauge syringe to apply lube to the bottom housing rails then I spread them with the brush later once I'm done with all of them that way I don't have to dab the brush in lube all the time.
very true, but since i already had them apart, i did decide to do the rails. I actually didnt do the stems on that batch (despite what my editing magic made you think haha). Just bottom housing rails, spring bag lube + donut dip. I do wish that i put more work into the leaves of those switches but they still sound good.
I think it’s worth picking up a set of Akko Switches just to use the packaging as a lube station - much cheaper and you get a set of decent switches as well
recently i helped my friend to choose a new keyboard and i got her an Akko LA 3098, with ocean blues. Because i wanted to help her have the best experience, i decided to lube the switches too. i mostly enjoy lubing since i can open a podcast up (namely Distractible podcast) and just lube away while listening. It took me 2.5 hourse for 98 switches but i had quite a bit of fun with it.

I was wondering why I was supposed to lube the top housing of my gateron cj, and your video answered my question completely by chance ( at 6:29 ), thank you
Regarding human assembly line; this is one of the first implementation of functional parallelism. If you are two or more crazies into this you could exploit functional parallelism; e.g. one person is opening switches, one person is mounting them into the lube station, etc. for small amounts of keys like a single keyboard you probably won’t fully experience of functional parallelism wildly increases throughout (large workloads and well optimized work pipeline is required for best throughout) but eh, you’ll learn about work optimization and hopefully have fun :) personally I’m in lazy gang and still prefer my switches to come pre-lubed. And thanks for great content!
Yes... definitely best to have a lubing buddy. I had this two weeks ago when a pal and myself lubed all of my KTT mints for a video (footage actually in this vid haha). We finished 70 in a hour with distractions and breaks!
What I do is I lube part by part. I bag lube the spring with Krytox GPL 105, then I set it aside. Next is either I go with bottom housing then top housing, vice versa. after the bottom and top is done, I keep them in a container with lid so dust will not get on the lube. If I feel tired after, I do the stem the following day. As much as possible, I try to keep the process linear. If you are really feeling lazy, you can just bag lube the spring and lube the stem.
I do tub lube my stem and springs. For stems, mix of Krytox 205g0 and few drops of GPL105, should be very very very few amount of lubes. With springs, good amount of GPL105. Shake for like 5 minutes. Check the stems, if you think you overlubed, then you overlubed. If overlube, then I throw a tissue paper inside the tub, and shake it again. For housing, only the bottom housing. But some switches only needs a lubed stem and spring. Funny thing is I did all these if it is a commission work. All of my keyboards are all stock switches because I hate it if I do it, but I love doing it if people pay me to do it.
OMG i just watched keybored talk about doing something similar. Problem is he said lube the tactile bumps of the leaves specifically, which made no sense because he was using glorious bobas. He got rid of the ping but i would never lube stems bumps or the leaves fronts ever as i wind up with linear switches instead of the tactiles they used to be :( I do lube stem legs but only if theres no silicone on the legs. It seems to be better this way. However i dont lube legs bottoms, just the overlubing the rail part to get it all in there. Anyways thanks for confirming for me that im not crazy lool
Hi, saw this vid in my recommended. I feel like lubing can be fun in the sense in figuring out what switch needs what to make it optimal. I do get how tedious it can be though. Nice vid! Hope you’re doing great!
My longest lubing session was my first time ever, I was lubing some shitty redragon browns, they were scratchy af and some had missing legs on the stems, and that's the reason they double click so much, I was lubing them with dielectric grease, it took me 2 days around 4h to 5h a day, because it's really hard to not over lube with thick grases, so I applied lube and spent a good time taking excess lube off...
the 1st time I lubed my switches, it took me 6 hours for 110 pcs(lubed and filmed). the best part is, I didn't do the research on tactile switch lubing so I just kinda go all out on the legs. To my surprise, Glorious Panda doesn't lose too much tactility even I went all out on the legs 😂 I hoped I had watched this before I did it my 1st time, could have saved me half of the lubing time I think.
Funny enough, I did this from the start, with the exception that after I lubed the stem I put the housing on immediately. Works for me quite well. But I still have some Series running... Otherwise it's too boring :D.

My pro tip for switch lubing is don't do it in one go. Break it up in to smaller batches of 10-30 switches a few nights a week. Makes it much less of a chore.
So how did I get good at lubing. 1. I found a way to make it fun by just listening and watching stuff while I did it 2. I started a club at my school for keyboards and insisted manual labor
production line style is definitely the fastest method, but also the most boring. just to break up the monotony, i personally do mini-batches of 25-30 switches at a time
Here is the method that i've used to lube my switches much faster. Step 1. Get a Girlfriend Step 2. Guilt said GF into helping lube your switches Step 3. Profit.
Really good video. Thanks for the tips. I can see the production experience has helped out in this case ;)

My pro tip for switch lubing is don't do it in one go. Break it up in to smaller batches of 10-30 switches a few nights a week. Makes it much less of a chore.
I agree
Lubing the switches for a full sized keyboard was borderline traumatic. Do not recommend. Lubing has never been the same.
Lubing is like putting ver. Ka decals on gundam
Wo wo no typing sound test? 😂
please put time stamps
you got it homie

watching this after singlehandedly lubing an entire TKL that lasted the entire afternoon...
Awwww
You are so cute🥺🥺
Hope one day I will order switches and will have a lube session :>
I'm buying stock in this channel. It has the production values of something like 10× its size.
So how did I get good at lubing.
1. I found a way to make it fun by just listening and watching stuff while I did it
2. I started a club at my school for keyboards and insisted manual labor
I thought I was the only one who thought I was dying when I lube.
i like ya cut g
I never lube the top housing. 🤣
thats for the best :) like i say in the vid... only if necessary otherwise don't bother!
I personally don’t lube my top housing
Dig the haircut

oof, now I gotta relube my u4t boba switches
You found a title for the video!! :3
haha i did HOW TO LUBE FAST *HACK* #emotional
I somhow enjoy lubing
just lubed some azure dragons last night, and yeah it can be calming
production line style is definitely the fastest method, but also the most boring. just to break up the monotony, i personally do mini-batches of 25-30 switches at a time
i try to get a fun vibe going with podcasts or some hype music
Here is the method that i've used to lube my switches much faster.
Step 1. Get a Girlfriend
Step 2. Guilt said GF into helping lube your switches
Step 3. Profit.
nice hair :D
Thank you! (long hair is just too much haha)
It's 2023, this video is outdated now
It's true - now that its officially 2023, the way we lube has completely changed overnight and this video is fake news. I'm cancelling myself
Laughs in clicky
*cries in coworker sitting next to you for 8 hours/day*

I like lubing :>
i do too - but toward the end my neck hurts lmao
you could always not wipe the lube of the stems.... you know? just wash your hands after.
i prefer my entire workspace covered in .1 mm of 205g0 at all times
😅 True #lol
