Lyrics:
NORMANDY Gavin Dunne 2011
A faint shimmering
The blaze of a dying star
Rays glimmering
Flares flash and glare from afar
The tiniest flicker on the edge of the sky
Supernovas collapse in the blink of an eye
The many will call on the deeds of the few
We will see this burden through
But if we find our way back home again
Is there something left to save?
What if we find ourselves alone again?
Is there something left to save?
This trust will not be torn apart
Control the violence in your hearts
We gave our lives to Normandy
We've been breaking ground
We fought for the weak and the lost
They won't break us down
We'll hold the line, whatever the cost
The heart of the universe is blackened and cursed
Our history's a blister that's about to be burst
There is so little hope on this path we pursue
But we will see this burden through
And if we find our way back home again
Is there something left to save?
What if we find ourselves alone again?
Is there something left to save?
This trust will not be torn apart
Control the violence in your hearts
We gave our lives to Normandy
We gave our lives to Normandy...
And if we find our way back home again
Is there something left to save?
What if we find ourselves alone again?
Is there something left to save?
This trust will not be torn apart
Control the violence in your hearts
We gave our lives to Normandy...
Best times of my life were spent on that ship. It's been a damn good ride.
The best
venomrulesall I meant to say that ;)

Huh?
Weep
10 years have passed. I still cry hearing this song. Thank you.
11 now
Same here. Happy tears if you get what I mean. ❤
Same. Brings me close to tears
A ship that needs no introduction. A fortified star hurtling across the sky at unfathomable speeds. A beacon of hope to those who seek sanctuary.
This is the ship of Commander Shepard.
This is Normandy.
This is commander Shepard
And this is my favorite comment under my favorite video on youtube
This is epic in the literal and figurative senses. It fits Mass Effect so well. In fact, the line "The many will call on the deeds of the few and we will see this burden through." pretty much sums up the trilogy.
If only the many listened to the few earlier...
8 years on and still nobody has caught on the fact that Captain Kirahe is on screen when the words “we hold the line whatever the cost” are sung.
To be fair, the legendary edition came out, I'm sure... someone pointed that out by now... right?
I came looking for this.
And Kirrahe could be a reference to Currahee, a Cherokee word that means we stand alone.
if you mean at 2:17, maybe that's because that's NOT Kirrahe, that's Padok Wiks. Kirrahe is in that mission as well, if he survives ME1, but that's not him.
It's like, staggering how good these guys' music is while also being about a video game. I've had the commander shepard song stuck in my head for like 7+ years at this point and I'm not even mad.
This is another one of those songs that's gonna make me play the game isn't it...
Yup
And it'll be worth it. Miracleofsound might have that annoying tendence of making songs better than games (love ya) but ME iss exactly AS GOOD :)
"The many will call on the deeds of the few." God I love that line. It's so evocative. That's how it always is with human history a few people push things forward, and make things better for everyone.
It's been a damn good ride.. The best one.. I just loved the citadel DLC made me laugh , feel and even shed a tear! Miss the normandy personnel.. goodbye friends
Robin Kuijt not yet, Andromeda needs saving
***** wait... the Reapers invade 2 galaxys at the SAME time?!?!
neither do I, I thought the Reapers invade Andromeda and the Milky Way
so who could it be? another species could be lethiathen 'CAN'T SPELL IT'
+Robin Kuijt The Citadel DLC had me laughing my ass off the entire time, just made the ending hurt that much more though...
God just finished the Trilogy today feel like I'm fucking depressed lol.
U.S.S. Enterprise, Millennium Falcon, y'all can go take five...
The Normandy SR2 has this one.
Agreed.
Keyon Hutson Nothing. Nothing beats the Enterprise.
Jackson Steinborn
My heart has been tattooed with an "N7". Your comment is invalid.
Darkwireman Dude, that must've been painful! You alright?
greyassassin24
Minor throbbing, nothing serious.
You know, with a few lyrical changes to the first verse, this could also be a good dedication to the men who died on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. That's pretty cool.
Especially since "The many will call on the deeds of the few." is kinda similar to a Churchill quote ("Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few".) Although that quote referred to The Battle of Britain.
No - don't jingo this up for me. Please.
Dr. Jekkl and Mr. Snide "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few," - considering British humour it's no surprise that the first time the quote was broadcast over the radio a British fighter pilot commented "He must be talking about our bar bills."
Scrapper349 That's fucking brilliant.
Chillingly powerful.
After I played through ME3's Citadel DLC i did get the feeling I would not just miss shep and friends but the Normandy too, will miss the ol' gal.
I'll always love this ship.
Finished Mass Effect, and I'm an hour into Mass Effect 2... All I have to say is. Thank you Miracle of Sound for making me want to experience this series
Kamikaze ZenRonin I had the same experience. Bought the trilogy on release, but couldn't get through the first part of 1. Listened to these, and forced my way into one of my 3 favorite games..
geoffrey cannon What was hard about 1?
@@thewanderer5506 I know this message is yearsssss old but to answer that question it's prbly cause the first game didn't age well and it's controls and layout are bad
@@DovahTheHero that's why I am so happy for the legendary edition of me1
6 years later, still a tearful song
@dudu santiago I beg to differ but you do you

"Whose like us?"
"Damn few!"
"And their all dead!"
"..control the violence in your heart" - the best verse in this song to me... everytime i hear it... you truly are a miracle, Miracle of Sound!!! love it forever
Why is this so good.
Because it made by one of a kind artist: Miracle of Sound
War The Red Rider We can say that's a miracle of sound.

Just finished ME3, again. This song makes me cry. Thank you for all you Mass effect songs.
I love your ME3 songs so much because the songs make you feel Shepards Struggle and desperations and betrayal. I mean, the game does that, but to make a song to give that affect, that means you just made two amazing songs. Great job man.
The Normandy: A beacon of light, a symbol of hope, and a damn good looking ship. 😎
Listening to this song again after almost 5 years...so many good memories
This song is awesome. I've never played a Mass Effect game, and yet it created the same feeling I know Mass Effect is supposed to make.
A good composer can bring emotions back to someone. A great one can make them.
Dude... play it, now, go! :)
I played whole trilogy (femshep/Liara, full paragon, all dlc) for the first time last year.. Going blind into it in pretty much one go. (~120 hours in a week)
Game 1 - great, game 2 - awesome, game 3...
Well, I cried.. A lot.. And pretty much nothing have ever made me cry before
I might be some extreme case tho because I just finished 8th full trilogy run xD (still only femshep, still with blue fever and couldnt care less for other than paragon stuff) but ya missing out good sir. xD
+MedJay06 Well, a few renegade moves are worth it, paragon seems too naive when an enemy has just screwed with you.... but I agree, paragon all the way otherwise :)
8 runs are still acceptable, if you'd compare to me. I've lost track long ago. And I confirm I tend to repeat a lot of choices (Male Vanguard (Novaguard style), paragon with bits of renegade when someone deserves a punch to his (or her, I'm not sexist ;) ) somewhere, and with Tali's romance), though I try to vary sometimes, now I'm a Soldier and I'm going with Liara's route.
I'm on my third play through of the trilogy myself. All three have been paragon male Shepards (I'm sorry, I just get into the scene better if I'm the same gender and alignment as my character.) I only got the DLC for this last one, as I had borrowed the game at first for the 360, purchased it for myself on PC, and got the DLC after the first PC play through was complete. My red-armored paragon sniper is all I ever use. I should really break out of that mold, but I can't help but act paragon to people. My need to save all of my crew in Mass Effect 2 gave me a pathological need to stay as obnoxiously consistent as possible.
Normnady SR-2 best starship ever :D
I totally agree with you.
It's a toss up between the Normandy and Serenity for me.
+Jacob Clark Agreed!
Millenium Falcon, Enterprise?
not even close... those ships are neat... at best. Serenity would be a contender maybe. Ships with "personality" not just set pieces
See you at the bar Garrus...
suburbannegro411 this comment literally made me cry.
Drinks are on me.
suburbannegro411 "If I'm in that bar and you're not, I'll be looking down. I'll always have your back."
That exchange always gives me goosebumps. There is no Shepard without Vakarian!
suburbannegro411 This reminded me how much I love the franchise and the character of Garrus.
+enjoythestruggle never can be mate!
Rodrigo Marques de Oliveira If you're talking about that single breath at the end of the destruction ending with full support thats just not good enough for me tbh.
This is my favorite Mass Effect song of you. It really gt my feels and makes me sad that this epic game had ended
Definitely ;) I like Crucible a lot too.
Is good too, but the lyrics is what mostly get to my feels.
Well I still have to play ME3, need a couple of hardware updates. Good thing is, at my pace I´m probbly gonna see the new one right after that.
Mass Effect as a series isn't done, just the trilogy that focuses on Shepard and his conflict with the Reapers.
+The Addiction 2 I wish it wasn't... I LOVED the trilogy
Hold the line!
hands down my favorite song even after all this time.
Still one of the best games I've played. Normandy crew is awesome!
We've been breaking ground.
We fought for the weak and the lost.
They won't break us down.
We hold the line whatever the cost.
When I hear that song I feel like saluting and pledging my allegiance to the Normandy.
And there are a hell lot of names on the memorial stone at the end.
We're back in business baby!! Trilogy remaster!!
best MoS song so far
+Joseph Stalin I didnt know Stalin like Mass Effect so much
+Scelerat Ablepsia he does, so much space to make communism
The amount of chance, things that need to happen for life to form and evolution to happen, is so unbelievably high, that even with that enormous time frame it is nearly impossible.
I love all your songs, Sir, this one really gets it. I loved this series, felt it was such a waste to end it the way they did. All they needed was a tiered system of "Golden ending" with the war assets to "Worst case" (I.E the most horrible destroy ending) and maybe the option for control as a second option with equal issues on war assets. This song gives me the right feeling of hope and celebration of a fantastic series.
Why does it need a golden ending?
...Perhaps if the scrapped plan to sacrifice the character closest to Shepard to be wtfpwned by Kai Leng in order to get the Crucible data early was used. High personal costs for a golden ending.
Oh I'm not against darkness or grimmness etc. The bit where Miranda CAN die is pretty strong. But to be honest, if the game is being sold as "choices matter", then why not have a golden ending? But make it damn hard to get. Or you can get a golden ending but, as you say, you can rush it with some sacrifice.. or lots of sacrifice.
They could've done bittersweet a lot better, to be honest. If I'm frank, I think that they were going to get complaints any which way, because the franchise is so well loved that I don't think anyone WANTED it to end... especially as ME4 is now being made.
But as I said, make it damn hard to get a perfect ending. If they wanted to make it a bleak story, then they succeeded. But don't ask me to like it. Artistically, it works, but it doesn't satisfy on a story beat level.
Jeremy Lash Personally, my perfect ending would have kept the motives of the Reapers at least slightly mysterious and would not have been any of that "harvesting to prevent rogue AI's" lyrical. Maybe they could have been some sort of "insane" AI that developed a god complex and destroyed others merely out of arrogance.
There would need to be varying levels of sacrifice like Shepard themselves, the squad you brought, the entire Normandy or something like that. I really didn't like the idea of synthesis since it sort of contradicts the idea that difference is a good thing. The things I most wanted were tactical decisions on the battlefield like in the Suicide Mission (deploy Krogan forces here or STG there), actually showing the war assets collected in gameplay and cutscenes at the end (I was really looking forward to seeing the Rachni queen fighting) and to give more closure to what happened to the surviving characters and races afterwards. Maybe even a short epilogue where we can play as the LI for a little while to see the repercussions of the battle.
I know all that would take a lot more scratch and development time than they had, but for me it would have been an ideal ending for the trilogy.
I personally think they should have used the citadel to get out to dark space and had a special mission for each ending.
Yeah, EA...just EA is all I can say.
I'm coming back, the dead won't stop me.
Silly Normandy has its reaction engines below the centre of mass and fires them when not accelerating in space. Issac Newton is not amused.
To be fair, that could be said of almost all sci-fi spacecraft.
u live up to your youtube name
Survivalist Finlander Why thank you. I try.
PSEUDOSCIENCE INCOMING: Given that Normandy uses a mass effect core to lower its own mass, balance shouldn't be an issue.
The curved shape of the Normandy seems to indicate that is was designed primarily for in-atmosphere maneuvering. This may explain the placement of the engines.
If the theory of infinite universes is true, then I like to imagine that my alter ego is on the Normandy with these people right now. :)
this trilogy needs to be remastered for current gen.
+Midnightstone73 PC IS ALWAYS CURRENT GEN

The trilogy comming back could be what 2021 needs!
The explosion of a supernova occurs in a star in a very short timespan of about 100 seconds. A real blink of an eye takes 300 to 400 milliseconds. Since there's 1000 milliseconds in each second, a blink of an eye takes around 1/3 of a second. Compared to the time span of one full second, a blink of an eye is an eternity.
I think you have that backwards...if a blink of an eye is less than a second, then how can it be an eternity compared to that same second?
Will Parry idk i got that from a website xP
bobby jager I think that website needs to check their basic math :P
You must be fun at parties
CustardPirates who?
And Ryder will never know about this...
Never foget - Commander Shepard, 20something - 20something
+PVTMTA 21something-2189(i remeber that ME 3 Plays 2189 a.d)
it's 2186, not 2189
Born the 11th of April 2154, KIA at an unspecified date of late 2186/early 2187, at least after the 5th of October 2186, since this (a Turian offensive on Taetrus) is the only precisely dated event of the Reaper War
...
Though in one ending we have a glimpse of a soldier in N7 armor taking a sudden breath into the rubble, so he may have survived and lived after the war in these cases (though as he states before the final offensive on the Battle of London, he'll probably have retired from the military and the Spectres, what's after is left to player's imagination and fanfic writers)
Rayleigh Jones I dont think he would've survived that, (to my memory) the body was extremly damaged, he may taken a gasp, but that could've been his final breath, it doesnt always mean the person lives
And I doubt Cerberus would be willing to go through The Lazarus Project
I didn't think this journey would ever end.
Normandy=Best Ship Ever
Legendary Edition brought me back...damn good song
Please don't ever let your heart stop dead, Gav. At least not until you're 100.
All I can say about the dedication at the end of this video is Amen
Oh would you look at that... someone left some onions chopped and right in front of me... OH FUCK IT YES I'M TEARING UP BITE ME.
Exactly my point. Aliens that use "familiar forms" to communicate are a very common sci-fi element. But they mostly use the form of friends, family members and beloved ones, to create a pleasent connection. Shepard doesn't even know the name of the boy, only met him once, and he dreams about him because he is sorry that he couldn't save the boy. So the only reason the Catalyst would want to take this form if it wants to make Shepard feel guilty. It's a subliminal blackmail towards him
what do you mean 12 years ago, maaaaaaaaaaaan
Best times of the last ten years were spent zipping around space on that ship. It's been a hell of a ride...
Awesome! Thank you
always makes me want to play mass effect 3 again :D
Solitude Guard shouldn't you guarding something ?
Solitude Guard Shouldn't you be catching nefarious sweetroll-thief?
+lenni marjomaa I thik the sweet-roll thief shot an arrow in the guard's knee.
+Gaming Master Anthony Yes he did in fact the reason it took me so long is i had Arrow in knee surgery or did i get married i cant remember :I
Solitude Guard Ahhh yes very similar events. I always mix them up too.

who else thinks the normandy looks better than the tempest
Nothing can top the Normandy :)
The Normandy Sr-2 is amongst the best ever space ship designs, topping that would have been a very tall order.
On the outside, sure; on the inside, I'll wait until we can see inside of the tempest. The interior of the Normandy was very poorly designed for a warship. But then a truer warship layout would have made a poor game environment.
Tempest is stripped-down Normandy. She was not built as a warship, unlike the Normandies SR-1 and SR-2.
glrasshopper Interior of the Tempest is certainly better.
We cannot know.
Shepherd isn't afraid of the reapers, he's afraid of what they want and represent and not being able to stop it. The boy in the dream is just a personification of his fear, which is an entirely natural response.
His name was Marauder Shields
It's not about how you affect the story.
It's about how the story affects you.
I have the strangest feeling that we haven't seen the last of the normandy or maybe its just me :/
vizioxbox Mass Effect will continue, it was stated in the end of Mass Effect 3. It might not be on the Normandy though.
+Alex Dagos that's what we have fanfiction and head cannon for
+Alex Dagos I meant the ship itself but yea go mass effect :D
This is the first time I've replied to any of your songs I've faved so far, but I really wish I could fav this a thousand times over.
Absolutely wonderful! Suits the Mass Effect Universe!
You never know if Shepard survives or not, all you see is him taking a deep breath, for all we know that could have been his last.
i need help guys. Im fighting a one man war against the reapers on ME3 multiplayer. I need a squad, i am on PC please guys i cant fight the reapers alone.
Yes you can! You're Comman...wait...no, you're not Shepard...sorry kid.
I'm looking at a documentary of the beaches of Normandy while listing at this song.
Currently playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time... really looking forward to playing through the rest of the series. It is such a good game. It's like I feel like the crew of the Normandy are my friends even though I know they're just fictional characters.
And I have played the old D&D style RPG's and I have a favourite one from that era. Baulders Gate.
If Mass Effect: Andromeda is half as good as ME3, then it will be an amazing game. If it's better, then I'm fairly certain that I am going to lose hundreds of hours of my life.
The hours aren't lost if you do something you enjoy.
... I just came here to listen to the song... And I just have to say: I've seen long arguments in RUclips before, but this definitely takes the cake.
nice creative work and sound
Bye Normandy we'll never miss you ... now it's turn for the Tempest
I think you mean "we'll miss you" or "we'll never forget you"
Maybe he didn't like the Normandy. :(
I still believe this is your best one. Would love an up-to-eleven remake.
Oh how I envy you, experiencing it all for the first time, many happy memories
Thank you!!!
This song, along with others like Little Sister, sound quite Duran Duran influenced. And that's one big reason why I love 'em!
beyond the whole video game thing, I actually just really dig this song
I got chills that I can't get rid of thx Miracle of Sound XD
The inclusion of a DLC like that would be absolutely fascinating, if unlikely. Mess up enough in the right ways and Shep's sanity and control starts getting called into question. And as a thing, it could totally work. But without something that makes that nod towards Shep slipping explicit, or even implicit, then it's not a possibility. But it would be a very cool thing to explore.
Extended Cut. The attempt to explain all the holes and stuff in the ending.
Nice song
Convinced the gf to start playing the trilogy. And now its all rushing back in to my mind... After all these years still one of the best and most moving songs i ever heard.
I love this song hear it every time :)
That is just a beautiful ship right there.
made my day actually
i do completely agree with you on this point.
and that the big picture is comprised of both major and minor details so they cannot be ignored.
love the song it is truely for mass effect
thank you friend
I seem to have developed a weird pattern when it comes to ME, every few months I'll play this, Take it Back and Commander Shepherd and follow it up with reliving the death of Mordin (musical version- Gilbert and Sullivan Salarian), Legions death and the last goodbye to Tali just to remind myself and torture my emotions. But oddly, it makes me happy. The memories will never fade, Keilah' Selai
I agree, all of your suggestions sound very awesome, I hope they implement some of them. :)
Your songs make me happy to be a gamer. Thanks.
You cannot tell someone to enjoy what they do not like nor can you tell them to stop getting angry about something they find annoying just because you think the Mass Effect Trilogy is one of the best RPG Trilogies. At the least, you can suggest that they move on, but they will do that in their own time. You can even ask the nicely to stop going on about it as the matter is settled by this point. But you definitely cannot tell someone to enjoy something they do not like.
Thanks for this comment. ME3 deserves some positive recognition for once,
Citadel DLC is the best thing that happened to the Mass Effect trilogy!
Awesome song, like all the others! :D
I just got this g ameand i love it. I went on to your channel and saw this song about me3 and i love it!
Some parts of the IT may be possible, it is hinted the catalyst was looking for a permanent solution to his problem so it might be he helped guide shepard towards their meeting to try and find a new answer.
And not just with the ending. The ending just had the most problems for a lot of people (emotionally, thematically, how they believe it didn't mesh up with info from the codex, etc.) but they also had problems throughout the game. And enough of those problems outweighed the good whether they were lots of minor details or a few huge details. And all of it was based on how much value they each individually placed into each detail.
Damn right my friend. Damn right.
This song makes me feel liking crying, half from sadness and half from nostalgia.
