It's my understanding that street cats in Turkey are really well taken care of. If that cat isn't already owned by someone who works at or owns the bookstore, it might be a street cat. He looks pretty well fed. They put food everywhere on the streets for the cats and they're allowed to go in and out of shops, etcetera, so it's very possible that he would not appreciate someone locking him in their house.

Turkey is amazing when it comes to cats and their treatment and respect for them. I followed a Turkish guy years ago who takes care of outdoor cats both in his front yard and back yard to an exceptional degree. I then learned that the Turkish people in general are wonderful in their treatment of cats. I salute them.
They do adopt them just not into their homes. the cats in Istanbul are well fed and cared for the vets even take in ill cats treat them and if possible get them homes if not they are spayed or neutered and returned to their colonies.@@findpurpose6300

Each of those “strays” are sponsored by the government and are taken to the vet periodically for health checks and vaccinations. Locals also feed them dog/cat food. I’m from Istanbul. I’ve adopted two stray cat. One of them always naps on books or bags he founds around. And if you try to take it under him, he does exactly the same 😅
Cats have a special place in our country. Back when i was a conscript, we even had cats in our base and they'd visit us at guard posts 😅 Night watches were usually done alone for 4 hours but thanks to them i'd never feel alone.
That is the NORM in Turkey. I lived in Izmir. At first I was saddened by all of the strays. Then I witnessed the respect and care the humans have for them. They looked healthy. They didn’t seem afraid of strangers. Shop owners allowed dogs and cats inside when the weather became inclement. Dogs and cats even live within the ancient ruins peacefully. It’s beautiful to witness.

I went to Istanbul 3 times, i always love seeing how the cats are all well fed and taken care of. Not a single person tries to shoo them away from a store or mistreat them. And they're all so friendly and don't try to run away when you pet them. They know they're safe :) I wish it was like this everywhere
Feeding homeless cat doesn't mean taking care. Take care means to find for all cats a new home, because street animals can be aggressive and dangerous.

I lived in Istanbul for two years. I was so astonished to see how the Turkish people collectively take care of the cats and dogs on the streets. Here in the US, stray dogs and cats are mistreated, beaten and killed 😢 Thank you Turkish people for being so kind ❤️

It's literally the only place in the world I have desire to visit. We can't travel because we're tending to many cats where we are but if I ever get the opportunity It's the one place I'd go. Even though I absolutely despise air travel and traveling isn't my thing Istanbul looks amazing!
For those that don't know, Istanbul is pretty much the cat capitol of the world, a lot of people treat stray cats as a part of the community, there's a documentary called Kedi which explores the way the citizens coexist with the local cats, it's really sweet!
Istanbul and Japan’s Cat Island are the top two places that I would want to visit. Both of them are just littered with cats and I am a very large cat person 💖

It took training with lots of praise and love. All four of my dogs are absolute joys and loves of my life. Even my guardian dog behaves correctly. He knows who belongs and who doesn’t.

I love Istanbul! People are welcoming and cats are friendly. People take care of them, you’ll see shelters and food every corners. Never saw a country like Turkey 😊

Mother Ezgi my Episcopalian priest is from Turkey and at one point she either couldn't go back home to visit her family or she couldn't come back here to Wisconsin where she lives because of what what going on with the Turkish Government

I was just completely BLOWN away by the general animal treatment and hospitality..

As a Turk,🇹🇷 I think we have a very special bond with cats. I always carry a bottle of formula in my bag. So I feed every cat I come across. I build houses for them so they don't get cold. They are all like my children.🥰

I went to Istanbul 3 times, i always love seeing how the cats are all well fed and taken care of. Not a single person tries to shoo them away from a store or mistreat them. And they're all so friendly and don't try to run away when you pet them. They know they're safe :)

Feeding homeless cat doesn't mean taking care. Take care means to find for all cats a new home, because street animals can be aggressive and dangerous.
@@NiconD80 true but any cat is free to walk in and out of literally any place nobody will necessary try to keep them to the streets. It's mostly a culture thing cause it's believed cats are animals who like roaming around and shouldn't be confined to 1 place

This is just one of the reasons why i love Turkey...not just Istanbul but the whole of Turkey love cats....this countries attitude to strays or ferals not just pet felines is absolutely beautiful.

I lived in Istanbul for two years. I was so astonished to see how the Turkish people collectively take care of the cats and dogs on the streets. Here in the US, stray dogs and cats are mistreated, beaten and killed 😢 Thank you Turkish people for being so kind ❤️

Umm…while abuses do happen in the US, I wouldn’t say that stray animals are routinely abused by people on the street. Though they are overlooked and especially in comparison to cats in Turkey 😢

We are currently holidaying in Istanbul. It's amazing to see how people love cats here and they are literally welcome everywhere ❤
It's literally the only place in the world I have desire to visit. We can't travel because we're tending to many cats where we are but if I ever get the opportunity It's the one place I'd go. Even though I absolutely despise air travel and traveling isn't my thing Istanbul looks amazing!

Every neighborhood have their own stray cat&dogs. They feed them, take to vet, make them houses etc.. we just can’t live without them❤️

For those that don't know, Istanbul is pretty much the cat capitol of the world, a lot of people treat stray cats as a part of the community, there's a documentary called Kedi which explores the way the citizens coexist with the local cats, it's really sweet!
