It’s crazy how much that changes the gameplay. They should have done MP or SP instead of cool downs if they wanted to balance it.
Or simply not balance it at all since that makes the game more fun. Nothing about DMC4 Dante was balanced and he was hands down the peak of the genre back then, and then he spawned DMC5 Dante and Pandora's box was opened. Developers need to unleash their imagination not meticulously research how to curb the players' balls.
@ytnukesme1600 dmc4 dante has 3 gauges to manage, and 5 adds another one as well as a delay on jump cancels and a cancel that requires SSS

I hated the cooldown mechanic. I'd much prefered if we had something like this, where maybe using the same attack in a combo scales it's damage, or maybe each attack depletes your mp and you have to deal damage to regen magic. I dunno, but this seems way more fun

@@tomaszsotysik9438 This gets old the first 2 minutes, the people that enjoy it often happen to be people that didn't bother playing hack and slash games of the past, any of the first god of war games does what this game does 10x better.
We have "rpg" mechanics for no absolute reason in this game, they only act as numbers for the sake of seeing them instead of them having any actual impact to how the game plays.
We have no actual combo mechanics and the air combo starter is absolute clunk fest compared to the most basic press triangle hold from the FIRST god of war installment in the WHOLE series, we unlock grab attacks 25 FUCKING HOURS in the game, we have grab attacks in god of war at the VERY START, the limit break is literally absolutely NOTHING new, it just looks flashy.
This game gets old WAY TOO fast at the beginning either way, any guy saying "get rid of CD's" in this case is right, if they got rid of eikonic abilities CD's, implemented an actual combo multiplier system, and a bar that you could use as MP, and didn't fucking abandon any sort of REAL party system, this would've at least had the chance to call itself a itteration of ff 7 remake combat but on the latest ff.
How can people be so delusional about how utterly fucking mediocre this game's combat is, I cannot for the life of me fathom ANY reason at all to enjoy this.
The story was probably the only good thing about this game and even that fucking drags, what a fucking joke that people actually enabled the devs to make some garbage like this next year.

How this game should have been designed. Now we need a mod that allows you to equip all abilities at once and rebalances the ultimate attacks.
Also a mod that changes Clive regular sword combos and movements entirely in style of other eikons, like Odin sword combos. And of course RPG mod revamping gear progression, crafting system, and finally having damage types and resistances.
I was so sad when I got my 4th Eikon and realized I had to pick only 3.
That's just too much power Clive holds.
Having access to all 8 eikons at once is just overkill tbh. I get the idea, but for a lot of the time, you’d just be fumbling between the eikons and it could be really clunky to make work.
Could be more like a "set switch" button, where you can completely switch to a different loadout mid battle

Either THIS should've been the standard gameplay, or they should've impletented the ATB Meter System, if they wanted to balance it out.
Cooldowns suck the fun out of it and force you repeated combat with Clive's sword. It wouldn't be a problem, if Clive at least had more weapons to use, than just his sword and his 12 moves with it.
All four eikonic skills should've been available at all times. There's no reason to leave out R2 + X and R2 + O, besides the obligatory RPG identity.
An "Eikon-Wheel" for all 9 Eikons is more than managable, Dante in DMC5 prooved how circling through 7 weapons is no problem. The RPG identity is most likely the reason for having only three at a time.
Combo variations like Nero has in DMC would've allready made a huge difference in making the combat less stale

Not sure what'd make a better AMV for Clive, Find Your Flame, or Avenged Sevenfold's Shepherd of Fire, I got hit the other day reflecting on the lyrics "I am your Wrath, I am your Guilt, I am your Lust", and from that perspective Titan and Garuda feel a lot like Wrath and Lust, lol.

itd be cool if there was a mechanic called "eikon trigger" that just deactivated cooldowns for a few seconds and you could charge it back up with good combat.

I get why they added the Cooldown, but honestly by the time you beat Bahamut it barely matters anymore. I say after you beat Odin take all the limiters off and let us become as gods.

I think the real credit should be given to the Imperial Captain for taking as much of a beating as he did.
I'm not complaining about cooldowns, but it's really a shame that basic sword moves are so limited. I wouldn't mind for example three different combos on ground and two aerial combos.
At that point, you need to add a DMC combo rank system which doesn't reward the same string twice.

They actually helped making the game. U know the clashes between eikons like Ifrit vs Bahamut and such? Well they worked on that
The issue with a mod like this, as unbelievably cool as it is, is that it only further trivialize the enemies who couldn't keep up with Clive at all even with cool downs. Now they may as well just be punching bags.
There's a mod for that as well. Look up modular combat rebalance.
Give modders another year to cook and this will be a completely different experience.

Pretty cool and honestly I would not mind it being part of the actual game. Hmm abilities that stop time, I would only make them have cooldown example the "odin" ability. It's more like a ultimate lol.
well the mod seems to attempt to replicate the slasher feel.
In those kind of games instead of CD "ultimate" attacks have some kind of activation condition, more often than not tied to some Power BAR needed to be filled with energy or whatever.
And game already has Limit Break bar which is traditionally was used in FF for some cool and powerful attacks/moves
honestly, the game would have been completely balanced if it had an MP system that regens like stamina, sharing a cooldown pool to manage between all of the abilities would make the game way more balanced, thus an actual RPG.
lower enemy HP, give more attacks with more nuanced mechanics to dodge and such, attacks that need to be parried or blocked. make enemies more lethal and larger longer lasting combo attacks that require more precise dodges instead of just dodging AOEs and walking.,
The game doesn’t need a MP system, just remove the cool down and nerf the damage output, It could’ve worked better if it was straight up an action game

I wish after beating the game or dong a certain hard challenge there was a accessory that gave you no cooldowns
It's a better game, hands-down. The cooldowns are such a huge limiter on how expressive you can be with your combos, especially when it comes to air combos. Modding them away *does* make the game a little too easy for normal difficulty, but it feels great in Final Fantasy mode.
Honestly I've always thought these types of super long cooldowns are a shit mechanic especially in the stylish action/hack and slash subgenre, and I was really surprised to see them in a game where a former lead designer of Devil May Cry ( a game with no "cooldowns" longer than like 15 frames) was in charge of combat.
totally, i would've taken fighting style controls over the slow burn waiting for you abilities to return.
waiting is as easy, as being able to spam abilities.
if you would want to say "earn the moves" then it would make more sense to make it special button cominations, like in a devil may cry game.
and it's not like it's hard to evade the enemies, until your abilities have regend, it's just time wasting.
and in some cases, you can make some cominations of skillsets, which count down exactly in a row so that you can almost spam them anyway.
once i was done, i was especially done cause there was no depth in the battle system, cause 6 moves and your 2 or 3 basic combos.
with this, i'm really thinking about just playing hard mode like that, so that i can try out diffrent sets of builds in a fun way.

The game is clearly not an RPG so they should have doubled down on making a 20 hrs long hack and slash instead of poorly implementing RPG mechanics and making the game 60 hours long, which makes it a slog to get thru

It's called Final Fantasy that's true, but they have always tried different things with both mainline entries and spinoffs. With that said this one is a big departure to the point Stranger of Paradise is a better action rpg than this game. My point is that it could have been a really good mainline FF game even without it being an rpg but at the end it fails to be both genres it tries to be
