This car STILL looks futuristic in 2022, even though 40 years have passed since then.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!! I was five nearly six years old when I first saw this car back in September 1982 cause I was born in early December in late 1976 and to this day that car (STILL LOOKS FUTURISTIC) today on Saturday the 16th of December 2023!!!!!!!!
I am 78 year oldwoman and still watching and loving it.

To be a child in the 80's again..
The greatest decade known to man.
And yet almost everything produced during it is hot garbage that doesnt hold up today. Movies probably do a better job than TV because they were just trying to tell 1 long story as where TV just had episodic content so everything had to bet setup and concluded in a 40 min episode creating rushed, cheesy, unconnected content. KITT was the only cool thing about the show... Well KITT and KARR but KARRs potential was squandered. The only times we get 2 part episodes they are typically very dull
The toys and Saturday morning was the best from the 80's, Knight Rider, The A Team and Star Trek TNG too. The 40's and 50's had the best fashion and the 60's had the best music.

This whole scene is excellent. Everything is well done. Good acting by the Hoff as well. It makes me want to keep watching Knight Rider from way back in the day.
Still, even in 2019, the Trans Am is the most bad ass car ever designed by Pontiac.
The designers at GM ("General Motors") designed the Firebird Trans Am (shown here) for the Pontiac division of GM (Pontiac no longer exists).
Totally agree
The great thing about the show, was that the choice of the car was very crucial. Glen Larson specifically wanted the new Firebird as KITT, because he thought it was the only potentially availalbe car that would do the justice to a futuristic car, with it's design and aerodynamics. Even though, the car was quite heavily modified, the nose is much sharper than in standard Trans Am, and it looks like it was meant to break through walls, like KITT in the show did.

Imagine never having to worry about a parking spot with Kitt.
I really love Jon Ward's exterior design of KITT.
This Old KITT looks Badass.. more than the new one
MrSasrabirawa it’s the lines. The original Trans Am design really was accentuated with the Knight 2000’s design - they just streamlined the look to make the original KITT appear that much more sleek. The Shelby Cobra’s base design for the Knight 3000 saw little alteration - but the body type felt strange, especially the placement of the scanner, making the 3000 appear inelegant.

The Greatest of all time
Don't think I ever knew there was a rebooted Knight Rider. Thank God I live in Australia.
@Alan Cogan the reboot (2008) was pretty bad (and ignored the original show after the reboot's pilot movie) but I've always had a soft spot for the KR2000 tv movie. The Kitt/Michael banter was amazing, and the new car had some nice tricks. It reminds me a bit of Demolition man. Under rated movie. A show with the new girl and no Michael would have bombed though.
@Alan Cogan Nah, we now only punch kangaroos.
KITT will always be the measuring stick for what all future cars will be measured, this car had it all, I know it was just a tv show but it had everything, speed, strength, safety, all these different gadgets, no car will ever match it, at least in my lifetime, amazing car!
My favorite car tv show of all time.
Lol
@Donny, I think some of the advancements like lane assist, auto-drive, rearview cameras, and other upcoming vehicle inventions were all inspired by Knight Rider in some form or other. Naturally; things like turbo boost, and the incredible molecular bonded shell that makes the car nearly indestructible is going to be a bit out of reach for a while. The "original" specs and some of the car's features that were in the novelizations included a supposed experimental hydrogen fuel cell tank -given that every time KITT cruises, he has a turbine whine that is almost similar to a jet engine - it sort of makes sense that KITT did have an experimental engine to go along with it. That made him the most fuel efficient car that didn't require regular trips to the local gas station. The only downside is that KITT had to have a mobile base nearby for mission-specific one-offs depending on the needs of the case if he wasn't near the Foundation's home base.

The first season was darker, more somber, had more orchestral music and seems less dated than the later episodes in some respects. The performances and dialogue in scenes like this were impactful and well-done. A lot of the 80s cheesiness the show became known for was absent.
My favourite anecdote about Knight Rider: on three episodes, Catherine Hickland played the main character's love interest. She was also married to David Hasselhoff at the time. They divorced, and she ended up getting married to another actor - named Michael Knight. Absolutely priceless.

love the music as it comes on while driving. the music is perfect for the series as is the theme song.
Shame they changed Stu Philips for Don Peake. Stu Philips was the guy who made all the orginal scores from the season one, and those are excellent works that are pleasant and interesting to listen on their own. You don't need to remember the plot, just play eg. Stu Philips "Airport chase" and you can tell a story with many twists.
Sadly, many DVD releases of older series change the music because of pesky distribution rights.
"What's this? ...it looks like Darth Vader's bathroom" 😂
It kind of does lmao
I've always liked that line of Michaels. I always wanted Devon to say, "And how would you know what Darth Vader's bathroom looks like?"
☺️😅
Those flip up lights. Legend.
The whole scene is a masterpiece
Airwolf, Knight Rider and Battlestar Galactica. The 3 best TV series of the 80's!
s Don’t get your panties in a wad, dipstick. Most of us grew up watching it through the early 80’s.
you forgot the A-team.
Technically Battlestar Galactica is from the 70s.
The best part of Battlestar Galactica was Laurette Spang as Cassiopeia. I had a major crush on her.
Just one word : Timeless
My #1 show of all time!! Still watching at age 43!!!
