    The video sums up many major problems of Turkish education system. Military-like discipline when it comes to nationalism and religion but a total lack of discipline when it comes to actually teaching STEM subjects to students. Teachers not giving a fly. Students procastinating until the last day of exams due to lack of interest in subjects.

Biz orada istiklal marşına kendi ülkemiz kadar önem vermiyorduk. Birazsa Türklerin aşırı vatansever olduklarından da kaynaklanıyor bu.

      So, I am not foreigner but I graduated from high school in Turkey and lived in a bunch of different cities and went to a bunch of different middle schools. You might came across a few d*ck jokes if you are male, maybe some ignorant sayings which are influenced by American movies, especially the black people in American movies who use n-word but I dont think you'll get a negative reaction. Black people for us are generally the people who came from other countries and try to make a living by selling watches in the streets which we find very honorable in a way since we see lots of immigrants from other countries who don't work but black people do. As far as I know there is a black community in Istanbul. I hope everything goes well for you.

    • @ClaraFrancken
      @ClaraFrancken  3 года назад +3

      Hi, I guess it depends from school to school and also from what you want to achieve. I don't think that all regular schools prepare the students very well for the big exam at the end of highschool (the one to enter into university). But at the same time, if the only problem is the language barrier with fellow students or teachers, a regular school will be as nice as an international one. It probably depends on your goals and also on if you can afford it :)

      Hey! In which city will you study? And are you staying at a host family or how are you becoming a student in Turkey?
      From my experience I'd say that a lot of people would be interested in getting to know you.. but if you have any struggles you can always ask the teacher to ask the students if someone wants to "take care of you" for the first days. Don't be afraid of asking for help to fellow students and don't be afraid of making silly mistakes :) those students will become your friends and I'm pretty sure you'll have an awesome time!

      So I didn't have "Turkish class" but I was immersed by Turkish because I spoke it at home (host family) and with my friends (school). Hi, I can't give you information on tuition fees, but maybe someone else can? I only did an exchange year, so I guess it was covered in the price I paid for the organization AFS.
      But yes it is very important to learn Turkish! Many people don't speak English, even in the younger generation, not everyone speaks it. Also, in general, I believe that if you move to a certain country it's important to adapt yourself to the culture and to learn the language. And even if in your university or high school they do speak English, you'll need the language to be able to understand what's going on around you on the streets, on the tv, to be able to speak to older generations or people who didn't have access to education with good English classes... So many reasons to learn Turkish ^^
      I also made a video on how to learn Turkish and another on how to learn languages online in general, maybe you'll be able to learn it easier after watching those.
