I have been a fan of theirs forever. Back in the day I was a guitarist in a Christian metal band and had a tough time finding artists to identify with at that time. Demon Hunter satisfied my need for everything! "Not I" is still one of my favorite songs. And love the entire Triptych and Extremist albums. They are supremely underrated.

    My spiritual brother and sister,
I first discovered Demon Hunter as a curiosity on RUclips. The first Christian Metal band I heard was Stryper. I liked them and their message, yet it was more of in the Hair Metal genre which has it's place. I got curious about if their were other Christian Metal bands that delved into the more hardcore sub genres of Metal like Grind Core Metal band Tourniquet. I bought two of their CDs, Psychosurgery and Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance. Both are very good albums in their own right. I found out that there were many more Christian Metal band than I thought. One of them is from the town I live as of this time. The first song I heard from Demon Hunter was "Fading Away." I saw the video for it and it was what I was hoping for. It was heavy and fast w/growls. The song that truly made me a fan was "Carry Me Down." Not as heavy and fast as "Fading Away" and with clean vocals, I was moved and astounded how good Ryan Clark's vocals were on the song. I went and bought the CD, "Storm The Gates Of Hell." I became even more impressed with the whole album. When "The World Is A Thorn" was released, I bought the CD without even hearing a song from it. Usually I like hearing a song from an album before I buy it, but this time I took a chance and happily I was not disappointed. Though the CD's along with nearly my whole collection of other CD's were stolen, I'm happy that RUclips has Demon Hunter on the site.
Thank you for playing Demon Hunter. God Bless.
P.S.: I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and I listen to Metal. My favorite genre of music is Blues.

    • @rasero27
      @rasero27 3 года назад +2

Very interesting! I have a similar story, but what strikes me about yours is that you are the first Mormon I’ve heard of who listens to Christian Metal bands! I actually grew up in Utah and went to the LDS church as a kid (my stepmom was LDS) but am not LDS myself, and now live in Texas. So that’s pretty cool. I’ve seen DH twice in concert. Last concert I saw right before the pandemic was actually Stryper, first time I’d ever seen them. You’d be surprised they are still rocking (without that crazy hair) and pumping out really good albums. Do you have any other Mormon friends who listen to this genre? Just curious as I know a lot of Christians, regardless of denomination, can be quite judgmental towards this style of music. I’ve listened to it since I was a young teenager and honestly credit it with preventing me from going down the dark path of some secular death metal bands etc and getting sucked into nihilism and atheistic worldviews, which I saw happen with some family and friends, even to the point of embracing satanism. Christian Metal’s more positive message albeit with the same music has helped keep me on the straight and narrow my entire life.

      @@rasero27 My Spiritual Brother,
To answer your question if there are other Latter Day Saints that also listen to Deth Metal, Thrash, Grindcore, or the other sub-genre's. Well, with a membership of close to 17 million members, the chances of that is yes. Do I know of any, not right off hand. My brother, who joined the church at the same time I did was listening to bands like KISS, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Ted Nugent, and other of the hard rock/early heavy metal bands and performer of that time. I was more into the R&B, Doo Wop, and other softer rock & roll genre. I was nearly 11 and my brother had just turned 9 when we were baptized into the church and to give you a sense of my age, this took place in 1974.:) My brother and I would argue over the music we listened to. It wasn't until my mid teens that I actually started to listen some of the harder rock (not as hard as Judas Priest or KISS) like Boston and Journey. It wasn't until I reached my late teens, early twenties that my taste in music changed. I still liked the 50's and early 60's music. My taste became more eclectic when I started listening to some of secular Hair Metal bands like Cinderella, Poison, Night Ranger, and even New Wave. It wasn't until I moved in with my mom in Sacramento that my taste in metal started to be more hardcore. I started listening to Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth. Also during this period, I had gone inactive and was in a dark place to. I don't blame the music for my inactivity. I became inactive while I was in the Navy. I started ignoring the Word of Wisdom, and then started carousing with women. It took me 8 years to finally find my way back. As of this time, I'm an active member of the church and yet I still listen to Heavy Metal. As I've also said, my favorite music genre is Blues. My theory is that all music is derived from the blues. Some musicologist have theorized that the Blues genre had its beginning among the slaves of Ancient Egypt. I still listen to secular Heavy Metal, but I also listen to Christian Metal as in Demon Hunter, Becoming The Achetype, Impending Doom, and other groups. I have also found myself listening to Symphonic Metal and Progressive also. Today, with the exception of Polka, I pretty much like all types of music. I know I'm a little long winded, but I like to talk and meet new people.

17:58. you are right thats why I prefer Metal and rap for they dont sugarcoat life as a Christian . Life is hard, well be bullied, depressed ,heartbroken ,persecuted ,betrayed ,sick and more but we shouldn’t worry for God is with us. thats why Jesus said in John 16: 32-33 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Demon Hunter, Red, Skillet, Fit For a King, Thousand Foot Krutch, Impending Doom, etc. What can I say about our Metal and Christian Rock, there are no words to describe it.
Despite being the son of shepherds, he hated everything related to God, he didn't want to know anything, but through these bands and songs the one he hated so much began to speak to me, having a possible depression and anger problems.
Demon Hunter, Red, Skillet were the first ones I met and the ones that helped me the most, what can I say about DH.
The only times that I have cried with a metal song without knowing its lyrics and nothing about them, it was with Demon Hunter and Fit For a King, I literally knew nothing, NOTHING, and even so I started crying as if it were rain. With Red and Skillet it was different since more or less I already knew but it didn't shock me until I gave it importance, and when it shocked me it was strong.
I really don't know if you are Christians, I consider myself despite returning recently, I'm just a 17-year-old who doesn't know anything about life, but really my thoughts are very similar to yours.
These bands really have messages that are very good, fresh and above all Christian that young people need to see.
Demon Hunter is the slap you often need. If "God loves you" is the one that everyone knows and that it doesn't really touch you until you feel it, but you think others like what is death? How should I live my life? Okay, you must teach that there is something as good as God for the listeners and Christians, but you forget about the world and that every day is a struggle.
Despite accepting God in my life, every day I have internal struggles and days of hell, and Christians often do not talk to you about this, thanks that my parents know about all this and they teach the young people about all these things, just that I did not care xD. That is why many times many Christians not familiar with these lyrics and music feel that it is wrong and they withdraw, not to mention the religious who mark everyone as satanic xD.
I will always say that the best of Demon Hunter, apart from its musical section that is perfect, is its lyrics, God, I love how they criticize everyone xD, Religious, atheists etc, they are great,
If I had to define Demon hunter in one word it would be "Truth"
Sorry for my terrible English, Blessings ^-^

heard The Gauntlet from their first album back in 2002 and fell in love.. now what I guess makes it interesting is that im a full-fledged atheist, so lyrically they're hit and miss with me personally. musically however, i've always loved them. never had an issue separating meaning/music from my enjoyment, I'll actually mention Bob Dylan as an example of this, as musically I'm not a fan, lyrically however.. all in all great reaction guys!

I'm new to demon Hunter and I would not have known they were a Christian rooted band from this track.
Being Buddhist in my general attitude and thinking some of the content lyrically may put me off but I'd have to listen to more before I decide if I like then or not. The music on this track was awesome so I'll definitely go check the most listened to stuff on Spotify.
I thought the lesser gods were a metaphor for things like TV and computer games etc. While a little of any is a good thing, as a society we "bow down to the lesser gods" of entertainment and the abusive side of social media and drama etc. Rather than sacrificing or submitting our being to the support and loving kindness of our fellow man and or chosen religion. All of which promote kindness and acceptance of each other at the heart of their teachings.
Sorry that took a direction I had not intended. 🤦‍♂️😂🤣

You are kind pf right but they aren't focused in the meaning of death but more in the meaning of living just to die. This song is partially based on Philippians 1:20-21 which says "20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." . Is it worth it to live and go to hell or to die as a sacrifice and live for ever in Christ. "Your soul will beg you why" , is similar to "artificial light" "doesn't it break the model , I can feel it in my bones" we are made to serve God and we are my from Gods breath so if you about to lose your soul your soul(small voice inside) will make you wonder if its worth it. satan is the king of this world so to live a worldly life is to bow down to the lesser gods, to satan, but to refuse such life is a sacrifice .

I didn't discover Demon Hunter until this year. Kinda surprised that I haven't, since they're very good, imo. But I also didn't have much access to music growing up, being from rural America, and I don't normally listen to the harder and speedier genres of metal. I don't even know how to accurately identify and describe the sub genres of metal. Lol
I just happened to stumble across them by searching for Christian based rock/metal songs or bands, out of a curiosity to see if there was anything that sounded good in the genre. Besides Stryper, who I've occasionally listened to after only discovering them roughly 4-ish years ago.

I ended up liking them so much I got a Demon Hunter tattoo. I can't wait for a new album to drop. On a side note the last DH concert I went to there were only about 300 people there and I would have to say about 60% of the crowd was over the age of 40.. I'm 54 and still love the metal scene.. Wanted to see them at the neumos war and peace tour 2019 a year partially before COVID. What ones did you see them at, was it older ones before the one when I first saw them in 2014? They are Washington State based, I kind of wish I had been getting all their merch from the beginning. It kind of makes me cringe of why they have fans pay for pictures and getting things signed been since 2019 tour, because I used to tell people I went with the super cool thing is they don't make the fans pay for stuff, which is really cool. But I mean if they want to make a little more profit for future CDs and tours and merch I guess it's ok.
