There is no musical artist or band in existence that has had such a profound and positive influence on me and my existence. For over a decade their music hasn’t faltered or failed. Their music plants seeds in the most difficult soil.
@@islandofmisfityoutubers6734 Hi. I kinda think you missed the point; you're not the intended audience. And just so we're clear: Lucifer wasn't the heavenly choirmaster he's often portrayed as. So this isn't your type of music. Cool. De gustibus non disputandem est (Latin for "there's no disputing matters of taste"). Please don't make the mistake of applying your personal convictions to all of Christendom, ok? I don't speak for this channel, the band being reviewed, or anything of that nature, but I would surmise that as a whole Demon Hunter's mission is to make killer tracks primarily without preaching at their listeners, but still have some deep, resonant meanings. Let's take the name, Demon Hunter, ok? It's so metal! So there's an appeal there. Combine that with brilliant musicianship, and deep lyrics, and you have a band that could go head-to-head with [insert band name here] anytime, anywhere. Bear in mind they're not literally hunting demons, but also bear in mind that "greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world." So who has authority? Who is greater? He Who abides in believers. As for the particular song being discussed? It's rife with Christian meaning--dying to self, etc. I think Pastor Rob's analysis here was pretty spot-on as far as that goes. Beyond that, I'm kinda over using "christian" as an adjective to describe things. People can be "christian;" not things. It's sort of a nice verbal shorthand to say this is "christian," or that is "christian," but it kinda waters everything down. To the point that there's even "Christian Cannabis" now. Why do we have to so nicely, clearly delineate everything down to the scintilla? Why can't a group of Christian people get together, make excellent music, and leave the application of whatever meaning(s) listeners find to the listeners? Birdsong isn't "christian," but it speaks of the Creator (if we have ears to hear), and (not original to me) there's a sermon in every blade of grass. Some have said that the earth itself, or indeed all of creation, is kinda like a 67th book of the Bible; if you're looking for Him, the Creator is everywhere. Even perhaps in (distasteful, to some) music.
@@islandofmisfityoutubers6734 @Island of Misfit youtubers Hi, I appreciate the depth of your convictions, but I'm not certain where the scriptures address a "style of music?" And as far as being the world, but not of it, I can't think of a better way (in the current context) I'd doing that than by taking the so-called "devil's music," and redeeming it with a redemptive message. Music is music, ok? But it's the heart that's central. And in His day, Jesus was similarly misunderstood by the so-called authorities, who variously said that He had a demon, was a drunk (winebibber), glutton, and (gasp!) a friend of sinners. As for their mission (and I here am entirely surmising), Demon Hunter is probably targeting folks who aren't fans of hymns, church music, etc. Who would never darken the doors of a church. I think that's a very noble mission-- that's fraught with the potential for misunderstanding. And as long as we're recommending verses let's not forget that a proof text apart from a context is mere pretext... With that in mind, and considering the best approach is to interpret scripture with scripture, I'd like to refer you to 1 Cor 8:9, and extend to you my sincere apologies for stumbling you. Also, are you seriously equating the music industry to the "great dragon" of Revelation? And I'm guilty of eisegesis? There's evil everywhere, friend; it's not the sole province of the music industry. While I certainly believe Demon Hunter as a band deserves to be paid for their work, at the same time I don't at all get the impression that they're in this for the money. If all they wanted was worldly success, with their talent, they could easily achieve it by not including eternal truths in their songs. But they've got to write from their hearts, right? From who, and where, they are. The last thing I'll share is a paraphrase of a longer quote from the late, great CS Lewis, who said, "God doesn't need more ministers in the pulpit, but more Christian lawyers, scientists, musicians, etc." That's how we're in the world, but not of it; by blooming where He's planted us. You see, for the believer, because of His indwelling presence, wherever we go He's there, sanctifying. For the believer, there is no longer a distinction from a secular, and/or a sacred, vocation. They're all sacred now because of His presence. This is my last word; I will not again reply (this is not so say that a Christian should, for instance, pray about being a photographer during Mardi Gras; that's ludicrous. I'm speaking of regular, everyday jobs).
Demon Hunter is so creative and are true music artists. No two songs sound the same. A testament to Christian artists that stick to their convictions and don’t sacrifice quality to appeal to the general Christian body.

Artificial Light is good, I never got into 16 or Undying, More Than Bones and Died in My Sleep are good too. Personally, some of my favorites are Lesser Gods (shocker :P), Most of their new album (especially Silence the World, Master, Defense Mechanism, Freedom is Dead), Leave Me Alone, Beauty Through The Eyes Of A Predator, My Heartstrings Come Undone (both versions), I Am A Stone (Resurrected), Praise The Void (Resurrected), On My Side, Loneliness (Peace), Cold Blood. I'd say that mostly encompasses the songs I really like
You guys should check out "Cross to Bear" next. It's by far Demon Hunters most aggressive song lyrically. Along with "The World is a Thorn" and "Tie This around your neck"
OOOO, I AGREE! Trust me, "Cross to Bear" is the most aggresively unapologetic song they've ever made. My favorite from the War album is "Ash," which is another aggressive one. They're good at those.
Hi Pastor Rob and Gauge. I really enjoy your videos. I'm a grandmother and I appreciated this. It's a beautiful song because it's what we all represent and it's what Christian martyrs go through, in a sense. Thank you for sharing!
I'll never forget their song Fading Away was released in four 45-ish second parts on MySpace. In my head cannon it's because that song was so good that if they released it all at once the world would exploded. It's still my favorite song by them.
Would you guys like to branch out into DH music?? Please pastor Rob, I IMPLORE you, plz listen to the closing track on their album Peace, "Fear is No my Guide". It's the softest ballad they ever produced and it's beautiful. Its about christians wanting to censor themselves so they don't lose the secular people in our lives.

I get pumped when others get pumped listening to these guys. Love that you do this with your son. He knows what he likes and you can tell when hes liking what he hears. He has a "matured" ear and isnt easily impressed with mediocre tunes.
The Last Stand by Sabaton would be a great choice for a future reaction, it’s about the how the Swiss Guard protected the Pope and ended up becoming the traditional guards in the Vatican. Sabaton has a lot of songs about history, and they have many other good choices, such as Primo Victoria, 82nd All The Way, Ghost Division, Uprising, and Red Baron
Demon Hunter is one of my, if not my favorite Christian Metal Band (what I call them). I've seen them once, on their most recent War & Peace tour and got to meet them. Outstanding individuals! Thanks for reacting to this song. Based on your reactions to Demon Hunter, I believe you guys would love both War and Peace in its entirety! If possible, would love to hear your reaction to the song Deathless by Saving Grace.
@Sarah Getske In kinda defense of that as some one who works at restaurants and fast food, If they allow people to come in and dine, some tables are not allowed to be sat at. Mainly the ones next to eachother and even then more people order online. As far as ive heard planes are still shut down and with grocery stores, mask are required. Not that i have anything against churches or synagogues, but restaurants, grocery stores and Airport bring Better income to the gov then churches and are higher priority because so. Plus when it comes to people, those 3 are constantly moving in and out while churches and such are piling in for 2+ Hours and staying which brings bigger risk of spreading. It's better just to be held via online service. I know it doesn't seem fair but i wouldn't say its bullying. Just rational thinking to prevent spread.
@Sarah Getske I understand your point but letting the people choose on a matter as important as this is not a smart idea. They will of course choose to go to church no matter of how dangerous the virus i and that leads to a bigger chance of infection and for not only the people who went to church but anyone they come into contact with. Which will leads to a higher death count. They will put their desires before the worlds and that's kinda selfish. As far as protesting goes, i believe that shouldn't be allowed either at least not in such big groups as I've seen for the same reason. People have the right to freedom of speech but that comes with consequences and when you choose to put your ideals over the betterment of the countries then there's a problem. And its not like they're banning religion, this is temporary. As long as people do what needs to be done, then will be over with sooner and things can go back to normal for everyone.
Gage was on point with the black metal references. Not only the sound, but the visuals were also very black metal-esque. Still gonna do my usual request for Bad Religion's Skyscraper, a secular interpretation of The Tower of Babel from scripture. It would also be interesting to see you guys react to something like Sunn O))) or Vattnet Viskar or Deafheaven. Keep it up
I've been a fan of DH for 14 years. I love each of their albums for different reasons in different ways. This is one of my favorite DH songs. It's got Everything a DH song should have: slow melody, fast brutality, powerful message. It's a beautiful combination of their old styles and their new styles. And yes, there's definitely a Black Metal/Doom Metal influence to this song. You guys should check out Firelights by Swallow the Sun
Great reaction and discussion guys. One of their best songs IMO. Jesus said it himself, in the form of a rhetorical question, "What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his very soul?" Hence the lyrics: "What gain is it to live (for a caving/dying world) and die?"
Just adding a comment so yall get more popularity, but thank you for giving demon hunter recognition. My very first "screamo" song I ever heard was Not I, by DH.
Pastor Rob, I’d love to hear your reaction to the song “Dead Flowers” by Demon Hunter. The lyrics seem simple, but as with this song you pulled out a lot more insight than I’d gotten out of it. Love what you and your son are doing. I hope you continue. God bless!
Dude, it's like you were describing exactly what I referenced in my head while listening to this. Might I be that one person who understands the Agalloch reference? 🙌 They do blackened progressive music SO well. A glorious band to check out. Agalloch and Alcest are two of the greats.
Looking forward to watching this once I get home from work, Demon Hunter is one of my favorite Christian bands! Yall should react to some Disciple, they're another great Christian rock/metal band. I recommend the song "After the World" or "I Just Know" by them
Yes, Disciple is amazing! Erase or The Name are also amazing songs. One of the best 'professing' christian bands out there. Musically and lyric-wise very consistent. Love them. *Also, loved your reaction! Demon Hunter is fantastic. Probably my favorite christian metal band out there. They put so much effort and thought into their music, lyrics and art. I will always have a soft spot for these guys. Hope you guys review more songs by them!
I've been binge watching you guys while I myself am getting over the covid virus. I'm pretty much over it now and I want to request a few videos for you guys. When I was in highschool (2003-2007) one of the biggest bands around that were paraded around as christian metal were a band called Underoath. In the past few years all the original members have split and the band is not what it used to be. However, their old stuff touched on faith and after their live shows they would always pray with the crowd-it was a nice experience having seen them live a few times myself. Some suggested songs of theirs include: When the Sun Sleeps Letting Go of Tonight A Message to Adrienne Alone in December All of these songs are from the same album and touch on a teenagers attempts to deal with their own faith, suicide, and the loss of friends. -------- Reinventing Your Exit It's dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape This album was more of a commercial success with a different singer than the previous album. (SWSF, OE) is a un-cryptic song of faith and loving christ. The band Underoath was formed by a bunch of kids who attended the same youth group in their church.
Been listening to Demon Hunter before they even released their "Self-titled" album WAY back in the day. Ryan's vocals are on another level. I remember finding a demo disk that was being handed out at a "Christian Bookstore", and hearing "Through the Black"...I at that point had never heard anything so epic in all my days. Fantastic band, and I ALWAYS see them when they come to Portland, OR.
Grew up a Christian, lost my faith for quite a few years. Seeing people like you Rob, and Gauge, just surfing through life, keeping your faith and experiencing the world through subjective eye.. really brings me back down to earth. You might not have changed me, but its bloody refreshing. Thanks mate
Want some more Christian metal? Check out War of Ages. My favorite songs by them are "Battle On" (Fire From the Tomb version) and "Salvation." They also have an instrumental called "Instrumental" lol.
I'm new to the metal genre. Grew up on Hip Hop. Been getting into Metal past 6 months to a year. This is by far my favorite band out of all I've been listening to. Loving the Christian message within the songs.
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs and by far one of the best music videos I've ever seen, mostly because it reminds me of old black and white horror movies, which are some of my favorite films.
I love demon hunter and I'm so happy to see a youth pastor talk about this blessed songs , I thank God for your lives , may God continue opening this channel to a lot a of people you are a great blessings ,
The lyric "sacrifice yourself or bow to lesser gods" rings of the near 7 reign of rule by man without interference without X-ians and more greatly God himself.
this song is amazing, sacrifice yourself, throw your pride away, beat your body into submission, or bow to things that are worthless or lessergods instead. theses lyrics are insane and very deep. I love Demon hunter, there artwork on their covers and all their merch is hard core I support them 100%
Hey check out the song Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror by the band Tourniquet. It speaks to exactly what you were saying about people being critical of Christian art references to blood and gore. Great band and song. Also, great work on this one. !
Happy I found your channel! It is nice to actually find people who analysis metal music from a Christian perspective. Keep up the great content my friends!
A guy I play D&D with shot the video for this song. Apparently since this was one of their darker songs they wanted to go with a more black metal feel to the video.
Demon Hunter has flat out changed my perspective on Christian Music! Artistically D/H is flat out amazing! I certainly appreciate the fact they roll in their faith into the art as well! Their lyrics floor me every time I dig into them!
Tears in the blood, someone to hate, resistance, carry me down, tides begin to rise, like a stone.... Demon hunter...just to state a few.. these guys are fabulous....I've followed these guys since their first album
I'd be interested to see your take on Sleep Token, particularly a song called The Offering. Beautiful, heartfelt vocals, chunky riffs and intriguing lyrics. Regardless, hope you and yours are safe. Much love from the UK!
Rob, I love what you and Guage do. Breaking down lyrics is what I grew up doing. Demon Hunter is one of my favorite bands because of the biblical messages. Keep it up, can't wait to see more.
Gauge throwing out Agalloch though I hear more of The Melancholy Spirit from Pale Folklore in this song. Would be interesting to see a Agalloch review especially one of their songs regarding pantheism. May have to pick up this Demon Hunter album as every song you have reacted to thus far by them has been quality.
This song also makes me think of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They chose to throw themselves in the the fire instead of bowing to a lesser god.
Yes we know black metal😁. I thought the same thing too, they went Blackened Death metal style, or even like modern behemoth sound. Really good, I love it
I stumbled into this song looking for new metal or hard rock video releases. I loved the sound and imagery. I added it to my playlist. after a couple of watches I got curious about what the lyrics meant. So I read the lyrics. Still wasn't sure what it was talking about but it made me even more curious. That's when I stumbled across this video. I figured two Christian's talking about a metal video would be pretty much a slam. Was I shocked to find out that this band and this song is Christian!!! Whoa!!! I am not a believer in any deity. And normally stay away from any religious music or conversation, but Lesser Gods will remain in my playlist. I guess there's a first time for everything. Rock on! The Pastors in this video does an excellent job breaking the song and lyrics down. It does have a black metal sound. And now I understand the lyrics. Great job! I will be sharing this song with my friends and if they have any questions about it I will be directing them to this video. Thanks!
As a proud and devout Pagan, I do enjoy their music from a music standpoint but it does not sway me from my path. I respect all those who choose to believe in what they do but I also cannot persuaded to change my views. I hope you guys discover more great bands. The rock/metal scene is very creative and passionate.
Speaking of being a living sacrifice...”Reborn Empowered”, “Symbiotic”, “In Christ”, “Power of God” by Living Sacrifice all tend to make the volume go up a few notches when they come on.
Demon hunter has been my favorite Christan metal band since I was only 13-14(I'm 32 now) and let me just say, even though the music industry is constantly changing, these guys have stayed true to the roots they started from while evolving so just, metal ❤️. Love this band and their message. Keep pushing on fellas
Thanks guys!

Carolus Rex has it's religious history involved so that'd be a good one too.
Loved the Wigged Hussars and Shyrisoma
@@AFY-nd5nr listen my spelling capabilities leave much to be desired alright
Demon Hunter is one of my, if not my favorite Christian Metal Band (what I call them). I've seen them once, on their most recent War & Peace tour and got to meet them. Outstanding individuals!
Thanks for reacting to this song. Based on your reactions to Demon Hunter, I believe you guys would love both War and Peace in its entirety!
If possible, would love to hear your reaction to the song Deathless by Saving Grace.
I've always thought this was a "sleeper" song on the album. Love this song and Demon Hunter!
This is a song for today. With wanna-be dictators trying to close our churches.
Not trying to be combative, but out of curiosity....who’s trying to close churches?
Keep it up
I'm just glad to hear a reference to Agalloch. Probably one of the few "black metal" type bands that I can get into. Kudos
I was one of those who were like wait what band??
Demon Hunter is the band that got me into metal still in my top 5 favorite bands to this day❤️✝️🤘
I've been a fan of DH for 14 years.
Jesus said it himself, in the form of a rhetorical question, "What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his very soul?"
Hence the lyrics:
"What gain is it to live (for a caving/dying world) and die?"
Great video. Demon hunter knocked it out of the park with this one.
As I lay dying or Oh Sleeper would be great
This is probably Demon Hunter’s best song off of the War and Peace albums. So great! Your reaction/break down was fantastic.
God bless!
I loved this! I haven't heard Demon Hunter in a long time. Thank you for speaking this. You and your son are amazing 👏
This is great! Love the video and exposition of the lyrics!
SUCH a good song! I would absolutely recommend Life War next. It’s short, raw, and intense.
Dude, it's like you were describing exactly what I referenced in my head while listening to this.
Might I be that one person who understands the Agalloch reference?
🙌 They do blackened progressive music SO well. A glorious band to check out.
Agalloch and Alcest are two of the greats.
I feel as we'll that black metal feeling you talking about, and I love it .
And this is my Demon Hunter song!
Looking forward to watching this once I get home from work, Demon Hunter is one of my favorite Christian bands! Yall should react to some Disciple, they're another great Christian rock/metal band. I recommend the song "After the World" or "I Just Know" by them
Defenitly gonna check out the band. Im always searching for good Christian Metal/Rock bands.
I love Disciple
Some suggested songs of theirs include:
When the Sun Sleeps
Letting Go of Tonight
A Message to Adrienne
Alone in December
All of these songs are from the same album and touch on a teenagers attempts to deal with their own faith, suicide, and the loss of friends.
--------
Reinventing Your Exit
It's dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door
Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape
This album was more of a commercial success with a different singer than the previous album. (SWSF, OE) is a un-cryptic song of faith and loving christ.
The band Underoath was formed by a bunch of kids who attended the same youth group in their church.
Demon hunter is amazing! Love them. Be cool for you to check out Fit for a King's new album The Path.
i really like this song a lot. thanks for the reaction.
Thanks mate
❤️❤️🙏🙏
Want some more Christian metal? Check out War of Ages. My favorite songs by them are "Battle On" (Fire From the Tomb version) and "Salvation." They also have an instrumental called "Instrumental" lol.
Finally lol ! I'm so glad you reached to this one! It's my most FAVORITE Demon Hunter song EVER!!! 👍👍😁
I'm new to the metal genre. Grew up on Hip Hop. Been getting into Metal past 6 months to a year. This is by far my favorite band out of all I've been listening to. Loving the Christian message within the songs.
This song is such an amazing banger..
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs and by far one of the best music videos I've ever seen, mostly because it reminds me of old black and white horror movies, which are some of my favorite films.
Love that you added subtitles!
"God Forsaken" is a great one and "Relentless Intolerance"
I love demon hunter and I'm so happy to see a youth pastor talk about this blessed songs , I thank God for your lives , may God continue opening this channel to a lot a of people you are a great blessings ,
I always enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you do! God bless
The lyric "sacrifice yourself or bow to lesser gods" rings of the near 7 reign of rule by man without interference without X-ians and more greatly God himself.
One of my favorite react channels reacting to one of my favorite bands. You love to see it.
this song is amazing, sacrifice yourself, throw your pride away, beat your body into submission, or bow to things that are worthless or lessergods instead. theses lyrics are insane and very deep.
Love Demon Hunter one of my all time favourites hey y'all should check out war of ages as well very good underrated band
Love DH 🤘♥️🔥Next maybe War of Ages - Collapse, it's very good song too )
Funny you say that. I literally just listened to that song 5 minutes ago. I'm not really christian, but I do love me some metalcore.
Awesome I was hoping you'll react to this. Awesome video, awesome song.
Demon Hunter has flat out changed my perspective on Christian Music! Artistically D/H is flat out amazing! I certainly appreciate the fact they roll in their faith into the art as well! Their lyrics floor me every time I dig into them!
Aggaloch!! I can't believe you mentioned them. She painted fire is an amazing band
This song has been awesome for awhile. The video is just another layer of awesome.
Tears in the blood, someone to hate, resistance, carry me down, tides begin to rise, like a stone.... Demon hunter...just to state a few.. these guys are fabulous....I've followed these guys since their first album
I love your reactions. Keep it up. 😎
Thank you!
I was excited to see you guys reacted to this song. One of my favorite Demon Hunter songs in a long time.
Well done my brothers. This was great.
Awesome song, great job on the reaction.
This is such a unique song it’s one of my favorite songs off of the War album!!!
Bro representing the Blackened Death Gang!!! Good to see a Black Metal fan.
Demon Hunters was one of the first Christian metal bands I listened to in the 2000s . Such an underrated band
Great song...powerful!
Demon Hunter rocks!!
Demon Hunter is decades ahead, there is no other band like these guys
This song also makes me think of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They chose to throw themselves in the the fire instead of bowing to a lesser god.
Yes we know black metal😁. I thought the same thing too, they went Blackened Death metal style, or even like modern behemoth sound. Really good, I love it
Awesomeness
Yes I love agalloch. I BE THAT HUMAN COMMENTING HAHAH. pale folklore is my favorite album by themm so happy you brought it up
Fit for a King - God of Fire
You should check out the livestream concert they put out last night! You have till tomorrow to purchase a ticket and listen! It was PERFECTION!!!
Thanks!
Demon hunter was my introduction to Christian type metal, and grew from there
Same here.
I'm glad you have recovered from COVID Paster Rob. 👍
Thank you.
Demon Hunter is fantastic and always will be . Their music is put together so well. I have almost all the albums and every song is a good song.
Demon Hunter manages everytime to write the most deepest lyrics
Prophet - Fit For A King
Love the song, and really like your input of how you interpret the song and back it up with the bible
Nice reaction guys. This is probably my favorite song from their album War. I really dig how different it is for DH!
fyi demon hunter is actually a christian band
Great reaction guys!
