- The south of France is amazing! And I really loved my time in Nice. The question is, would you consider moving there? Why or why not?

I moved to Nice nine years ago and I love it!!after living in Montreal for forty years !!!lucky me!!!
You're lucky Nice is one of the most beautiful towns of the world.
Which country?
One not at war would be my suggestion.
nah this guy only likes to go to war torn countries so he can pick up the desperate scraps
Which country did your neckband move to?
Tough decision, all of those countries you visited are beautiful. I do love Nice, though. Good luck!
I stumbled across your videos, I think you walked by our apartment in Nice. (We are from NorCal as well). Sorry about the unusually wet and cold spring weather. Rebt is far more affordable than buying, but apartments are in high demand. You were walking around the Carre d'Or, one of the most expensive neighborhoods. The prices drop as you move out of the center, and there will be less tourists. There are a bunch of specialty visas, but some people (and all the retirees) are on a non-lucrative type of visas (and some do remote work that way, a gray area in the law). It is expensive relative to Greece and Thailand, but it is anywhere 20 to 40% less than NorCal; some friends say their costs are 1/2 of NY. On restaurant prices, remember that tipping is not expected (round up for exceptional service) and tax is included.
Oh that's cool you live in Nice! Thanks for the insights from Norcal!
@@JohnnyFD It reeks of urine in the summer, and the hordes of third world invaders are getting increasingly problematic.
any good mexican food? graciasc
@@yeshechangchub6914 Taco&Co in Riquer and a little hole in the wall called 100% Tacos in the Old Town (owner is from Mexico City).
@@gooster_yt You're lucky. I'm from NYC but spend my time equally between London, Nice and Bangkok. Do you have relatives in France? If not why did you choose Nice?
I'd choose the lesser expensive apartment and take the tram to the old town parts. I've been to France and loved it. Renting a car is good that way you can be free and travel around. Lots of good food. I love it there.
Totally agree!
Hey, I have been watching your videos for 2 or 3 years now. I didn't know you were in Nice! I live here :) Hope you've enjoyed your stay!
Johnny, I'm surprised you weren't up on Nice yet. I am from NY but split my time between London, Nice, Bangkok and NYC. Nice is my absolute favorite vacation town in Europe. It is so stunningly beautiful from the old town to the promenade, has amazing food, surprising friendly locals (I am Asian American too and they are all super nice down there compared to Paris). I like it because it's not overrun with tourists. It's like the Ao Nang of France where people base themselves to visit other areas of the Cote D'Azur.
It's a lot cheaper and easier of a flight from NYC than from SFO, =)
But now that i've been, I want to spend more time there.
Ukraine isn't looking too attractive anymore is it, may become part of Russia? Maybe Nice could be your future eh ?
Well, NICE is very beautiful, "nice address," and it's a city that seems to have all the things (plus an ocean) that you like, i.e., friendly people, eateries, lots of fresh air and sports, old architecture, very walkable, easy living, no grafitti, clean.
I'd say give it a go, but do try it out for a little while before taking a deep dive. That would be my advice.
You have to try BGC outside of Manila. It's amazing.
bgc is a restaurant?
The great thing about european cities is the walkability factor, in Germany it is like this, and Nice as well, you are totally right! It is so good not having the necessity to have a car. At least this is what i think 😉
I was there around 6 years with my ex. We stayed at a hotel in the old Nice. It seemed like a generally friendly place and never needed to speak much French while I was there!
About the US vs Europe - I lived over 20 years in the US and now I've lived over 20 years in Europe, and I think Europe is much nicer, on the whole. The US has its good points, but to me the negatives outweigh them substantially. About moving to Nice - my vote would be yes! You can still visit Ukraine and help Ukraine while living there.
Stay wherever you like, if you really don't know, flip a coin.
As a Canadian sailor I moved around and found some Americans everywhere but home is were the heart is.
Moving to France is not something to take lightly, because it is essential to learn French, at least at a good basic level: administration, the prefecture, taxes, work, everything is done in French. But life there is sweet and pleasant, incomparable, I believe.
Nice, what's more, if you enjoy helping Ukraine, is a 24-hour drive from kyiv.
After watching you for a few years Johnny, I think your comments aren't wrong or insulting. I just think as you said, you're pointing out what you see and experience in that moment. We all have perspective and opinions.
I do however believe your view and experience with the US is quite narrow/limited as you're from norcal. California in general is not close to an accurate representation of the US. It's a sad failed leftist experiment. Geographically California is beautiful, socially and politically- it's the skidmark of the underpants of the US.
Not your fault, you grew up there. So I'd say travel the US a bit and get a better hold on things outside of the commie state. You'd be surprised.
Not trying to be negative either, and hope I haven't come off that way. Love your journeys and wish you nothing but the best!
edit: Nice is nice, but France is a mess. Go to Poland 🇵🇱. Great growth shall continue there and is a place I'd bet you'd really like!
Johnny you truly need to see a doctor about your heavy breathing. It is not normal for just walking around!
Johnny, Nice (Nee-ce) is pretty nice! Like some places, it has it good and bad! So the internet, the housing, and the rocky beaches all sucks, but it is clean, charming, the architecture is amazing, its not too cold, food looks great, and the people seem nice. BTW: The top left looked nice with the sun shining at you over the balcony. San Fran versus Nice, tie! I was wondering if your feeling of negativity is about your life growing up in SF or is it your experience of traveling place to place in the US? "Benefits in other countries"! I though about this one! There are plenty of benefits in other countries, even Russia! However, having a visitor's pass and a blue ticket always gives you more options and benefits. Not having the blue ticket, well, your end up getting only the benefits that come with your new ticket (Passport). I guess I never focused on you ragging about the US because I was too busy checking out the benefits of other countries. 😁😁
he said racism and too western. i never visited sf only la but it's way too big and materialistic. btw being an asian under trump covid era was actually damgerous even in sf. maybe you heard about all the violence... sorry if i offend. many videos... fyi
Of the three Nice would be easily the best. Important point: France has socialized medical care. Last fall I fell while walking in Paris and completely dislocated my shoulder, at 71 yrs old.Took an ambulance, various pain medications, xrays ,cat scan, sling and generally excellent care. Even as an American without travel insurance the total bill was 158 euros! mostly just the deductibles. Also great food, international tourists and pretty darn good climate!
You’re not talking bad about the US. You’re 100% entitled to your opinion and this is your RUclips channel for Christ sake lol. Obviously each county has their goods and bads. But exactly how you explained it, saying we have this or that better in America would come off more negative. Also, Nice of San Fran any day, that place is a wasteland.
Move to Nice! And I'll see you there in about 5 years when I retire :) I'm already planning!!
Looking great Johnny! Beautiful city! And it is Nice 😊
I’m going to Nice in September for the first time. I know I have relatives there that I’ve never met so I may just look them up 😊
I definitely think you should move to Thailand. You just seem happier there
Yes you should move to France. You are welcome ! 😉
You love travel so just keep doing what you love and put Nice on the rotation. As for your USA comments as an American to an American you are fortunate to have the right to speak freely!
I was totally not expecting you to like France this much! It's pretty interesting seeing your videos there from the asian american perspective as always. You definitely need to do more Europe travel videos in general since you don't get to see our perspective very much in travel channels.
I did't expect it either to be honest. I've always assumed I'd hate it there as it's expensive, language barrier, etc. But both trips there, to Paris, and now Nice, I loved it!
I was there Nice last week from Monaco, only couple dates a head of you☺ the beachside is nice and very familiar view. I been backed to Canada now.
What’s good about living in Nice that you can go by train to many countries in a short time . Not only that , you can experience different
cultures,
environments, terrains.etc.
Since you said you feel at home there!!maybe you should
considerate !!!
It would be awesome if you moved to the area! You would probably also like the town of Menton, which is walking distance from Italy, and close to Monaco!
I would recommend to choose some country which is NOT on the brink of civil war. 🤔
It is unfortunate that you were only driven to apologize to us viewers for your negative comments about America because you cousin was irritated by your comments and pointed out your negativity to you. I admire her for doing so.
I have lived in France and loved it.
Get out of Dodge and move to Nice! I love Nice and we missed visiting the Village of Eze, a storm shutdown the Nice airport when we were there. The carnival at the end of February was crazy!
The USA is part of the New World and Europe is the Old World. One is not better than the other in the big picture, just different.
But newer infrastructure is always better than old infrastructure from a functioning perspective, but not necessary from an aesthetic perspective.
Hi Johnny, will you be doing another video with Mr Bald?
Bald likes to go to very obscure and strange places. Johnny has stated that him and Bald are very different and probably not the ideal travel partners.
As much as we'd all love to see another Johnny FD/BaldAndBankrupt Collab, unfortunately that ship appears to have sailed. As the comment below says, Johnny has indicated in previous Q&A's that he and Bald are different personalities so another trip together is extremely unlikely.
@@churchofbrap876 yeah there is a clash I suppose
It’s good to see that you’re still enjoying your time with your cousin.
Johny for now I think you should go back to Ukraine, do more of your fund raising. Ukrain needs all the help it can get, trips abroad ,now an then .
Is the water ever warm enough to swim in?
(Today) 24th May 2024
18.2°C / 64.8°F
Still cold! But in July/August it gets to 23°C/74°F
I love your gentle way of being, really enjoy your videos 🌸
Thank you so much!
Hi, why you are so negative about USA , I moved in USA 17 years ago from Europe and definitely are so many different between this 2 continents but I love both , both are beautiful , please if you can’t stop comparing them . Definitely they are not the same . ❤ Have fun in your trip 👍
I used to live in France (the Riviera) and thought about going back and buy a house but things have changed too much (...) .... I won't go back.... For vacation, yes!
when you say that I'm assuming you're talking about public safety and the culture has changed because of immigration... I live in Poland and Finland, I feel more comfortable in Poland than most of the formerly 'developed' parts of the EU.
@@jlachorajana446 It's so sad to say but you are correct.
Easy solution for your culture problem Mr culture. Tell France to stop mendeling and supporting dictatorships governments in Africa loyal to them and their corporate thieves. Guess what problem solved !! But yeah we get what you're really trying to say.
you people all move to France then all French people move to Quebec lol.
Yeah Montreal and New York have tons of French people. It's the New World version of Paris and London.
So what is happening to your flat in Ukraine ?, or is Ukraine not so attractive now. ? Perhaps time share an appartment in Nice.
"Ukraine not so attractive now?" You mean since Russia started bombing civilians there every day?
You literally could go "old school Johnny" and open up a fight training course, rent a space and be fully booked before the ink dries. I propose that option if, for example, you wouldn't want to interfere with whatever income or business structures you've already got in place. But more to facilitate the long stay visa part of a move like that.
I've been preparing, a couple of years now, for a move to the region--not the city, in just a few more months. So the planning is the counterpart to falling in love with Nice. Because the French tax situation is a very, very big consideration. Once you get in that web, you're in. But you CAN make a plan, as an international guy, to minimize the impact.
Move to Nice
somewhere where there is more prospects than just beach and eat...something that has good weather is nice but should have something more going for it in terms of industry, events, projects, social opportunities, making a life.
If he can learn French, then he can just hop to Paris a few times a month for that, or even just go to London. It's similar to living in Pattaya or Phuket and going into Bangkok a few times a month for all of those important items that you listed. I agree, if you don't have that nearby, life gets boring in those types of beach towns.
Johnny the people complaining are most likely part of the 48% of Americans who have never had a passport or 30% that have never left the area they were born in.
Yes, agreed.
Nice is so pretty!! I noticed it’s very clean and no Graffiti like your Athens videos.
Agreed! It makes the city 1000x better. It's such a shame that Greek people don't care what their cities look like.
@@JohnnyFDI think it’s more of an Athens thing. I know the islands are more well kept and nicer. I never thought Athens was pretty. Also if you could you should move to Nice 👍
As an American tourist, you can be in France 90 days every six months without a visa. To live in Nice full time, how could you do it?
French residence permit for financially independent persons.
No, go back to Ukraine and help out with food, etc.
Yes sure! Where in Ukraine are you currently volunteering and helping with food, etc? I'll come help out!
Your cousin is right
I don’t feel that you’re being negative!🥰Safe travels; I would not go back to Ukraine…❤️
I remember when I first started watching your channel (after I saw you on Bald & Bankrupt) I felt you spoke very negatively about the US, but now I just think you do that because that’s just where your from & have prob spent the most time there so of course you’re gonna compare everywhere to home. I’ve also heard you say positive things about the US.
Johnny I'm glad you explained your thoughts on the USA because I really thought you did not like it.
Oui 🇫🇷
Another superb video Johnny, merci beaucoup. When I worked in Monaco I spent a lot of time in Nice and Cannes but wouldn't recommend them as ideal places for you to move to (for a start the WiFi infrastructure isn't as fast as you'd need and out of season a lot of bars and restaurants close down). Hopefully things improve in Ukraine, the war ends and life there goes back to normal.
Monsieur is not pronounced 'Mon Sir.' It is pronounced ' MUH - SYUR.' It means 'Mister.' You obviously didn't learn French while in school.
You always get one clever dick 😏
I love Nice !!
Also , you’re soo close to other beautiful towns and Italy and
Switzerland!!Yo
You’ll love Marseille, St. Tropezand other parts of France for
weekend jaunts!!
Have you been to Varna in Bulgaria Johnny? That's also quite a nice beach city in Europe, though significantly cheaper. Anyway, thanks for making this video about Nice - I knew about the place but didn't know it was this nice.
One splurge I did in Nice, I stayed at the
Hotel Negesco!! My
grandma told me I
had to do it!!
It was an experience!!
“Better” is relative to status quo. And it depends on needs and priorities. So, yes, to you, for your reasons, some places are better than others. So be it! It’s your life. Rock on. 🕺💐
Harald is not gonna be happy with you talking about buying in France Johnny 😂😂
Why? Does he not like France or something?
@@JohnnyFD he has made comments in his videos about not liking French people in general!!😂 I won’t say but you will have to ask him!! Keep up the good work Johnny!
French people are great, I don't know what his problem is.
@@JohnnyFD I wouldn’t know much about the French personally but I know I’d love to travel there someday! Especially watching guys like you and Haralds videos! Very inspiring! Be safe Johnny!
@@JohnnyFD Yeah the French are actually super sweet, especially if you stay in Germany for a long time then go to France, it's like night and day.
Yes, it would indeed be nice to live in Nice, HOWEVER, the reality is that unless someone is a citizen of the EU, it is very convoluted to get permission to reside in France. It requires a lot of time, a lot of bureaucracy, a lot of money, etc. as Europe does not just let someone live there because they want to. Same is true in USA and most other countries-unless you are a natural born citizen, it is a major process to get citizenship. I wanted to move/live in Europe years ago, but too many hoops, ladders, and cost to do so...sigh
Yes, understood. It would be really hard to live there for more than 6 months of the year because of that. =(
@@JohnnyFD 6 months, thought it was only 3 months per year..
@@JohnnyFD I think you could qualify for their long term visa. its kind of like a retirement visa
Actually Johnny, you could only stay for 90 days (3 months) and then you would have to live for 90 days before you could return. I think if you made a huge investment, like buying property, that gives you some leverage...
@mixalis-yup, it is 90 days
Move there
Johnny, I do agree with most of your subscribers, if you ever decide to live anywhere for a long period time, first rent an apartment there for a couple of months, and then decide.
If I was you, you’re still a young man, I would travel because you must remember as we get older, our body start to fail, then that’s a whole different ballgame.
I’m not sure how to answer, every country you visit you talk about moving too, I guess you have chose to run from Ukraine 🇺🇦, your confusing me as well as yourself in all your videos,, maybe buy mobile home and live life this way as you enjoy to keep traveling..??😉
It's a difficult situation finding "home" as the place I thought would be my future home is getting bombed by Russia on a daily basis.
@@JohnnyFD I live in Dnipro, I’m not running, I fully understand John, but you need to make a more concrete choice, starting with selling your property, if it’s how your feeling, it sounds like you have had enough of the war, but who knows, you move to France the war may follow you 😏just saying mate 😉
Ok Johnny head to Eatonia and drive or be a passanger a NAFO truck back to Ukraine showing your Support as u are e Ukrainian now , this is your home . As a Australian we are all Mates and support everything thats right . Support Merc he has another truck going to Keiv .
It gets a bit too touristy, but Nice and the South of France in general are really beautiful. There are many other nice places to visit up and down that coast
I would choose Nice over SF, and I bet it's actually less expensive for what you get. My rich friends from college loved Nice, those posh bastards.
Btw, it looks like you're wearing a nasal dilator; I can't sleep without wearing one of those. I should probably wear one when working out. I'm curious how well the dilator ends up working out for you.
No thanks. Dodgy NATO country.
Would never want to see you get hurt, but Ukraine is Ukraine.
Thanks Yusha. I'll be careful.
It’s worth checking out the some other cities in the area like Aix en Provence, Toulon, etc.
Nice is my favorite place. I sit in another famous place wishing I was in Nice. I can't figure out how to live there.
Menton would be better, more quiet than Nice. Best of all would be a cocoa farm in Taiwan.
I think Johnny should move to Nice (for a few years at least) as it looks very 'nice' and the food looks great.
Ukraine will be in a state of war for years the way things are going.
He cannot just move there. He does not have an EU passport.
Not worth it, France has changed to much. Expensive, high taxes, big violent crime problem (As a French).
No, a wonderful and interesting country to visit, but not to live in for a long time. France is basically the combination of all the three states on the west coast of America, but hardly anyone speaks English and too many people smokes.
Dear Johnny, every time i hear your heavy breathing in your videos. Wouldnt a health check be a good idea? You re still a young man, take care.
Hey Johnny, being myself a digital nomad for more than 10 years I am always drawn back to three destinations - Spain for Europe (my wife and myself love Malaga), Thailand (I lived and worked in BKK for 7 years) for SEA and Buenos Aires in South America. Those three cities are our bases. Most of the year (6 months) we spend in Malaga, the winter months in Buenos Aires and the rest in TH. In my opinion, TH has the best price-value in the whole world. Life there is just wonderful as you know, so easy and cheap. Malaga is a fantastic place in case you want to stay in Europe. Beautiful city, architecture, food, culture, friendly people paired with an amazing nature (ocean and mountains, lots of nature). Once you live at the ocean it is hard to go back, its just a different level of life quality. For South America, we really love Buenos Aires which is a fantastic place if you want to escape the winter. The city is faszinating with amazing architecture, exciting culture and one of the most amazing coffee cultures in the world. Not to forget the very low cost of living (blue dollar rate is your best friend). Wishing you all the best finding your place and thanks for your videos :) Cheers from Malaga
Cheers!
I never take of fence about the comments you make about living in other countries. You are correct about architecture, food etc. as compared to the US. Having only lived in the US and never having travelled overseas I enjoy hearing your perspective. Many things have changed in the US under present administration and would love the opportunity to live elsewhere. However, you need language skills and other skills which I do not have. Keep doing what you are doing.
Thanks Barbara, I'm glad Americans who don't travel much can see how things are different in other countries, the plus and the minus. By the way, a lot of Americans actually started moving aboard in 2018/2019/2020 after Trump got elected. =)
This country is far very expensive to live, you’re just pretty lucky to see cheap price this time .
I think most people in Europe consider the US to be the world’s most important tech leader and driver of freedom and opportunity. Without US sacrifices, it is unlikely that Europe would step-up and save Ukraine.
Yes, agreed, for tech and military, the USA is #1.
Argh, you got stuff on your nose😮 I hate that when no one tells you
Is it just me or is there a lot of black apparel?
A lot of French wear all black, all the time, same in Sweden too I believe.
Is it all apartments or are there houses too
In most of Europe, cities are all apartments, as its the best way to design density for live/work/eat/shop neighborhoods. Houses are a countryside and American thing.
Lovely video. Nice is very nice. I'd much rather live there than my/your SF, or Paris or anywhere else in Europe, but on the whole I'd rather be in my hometown San Diego, which is very similar in many ways. . .So happy to see you take a dip in the Mediterranean Sea. Even if cold, much better than Ocean Beach in SF. Right?
BTW, your cousin (Kay?) is wonderful. So nice to have family like her.
Yes, Kat is fantastic!
Re: Hotel Negresco, Nice
No Johnny, you are not welcome in France. Sincerely, the French.
Never got the feeling you ever put down the USA. Most of us don't need to made more aware of its shortcomings.
Ukraine would be fascinating and great for the channel of course. But for safety however…
Thanks for such interesting video ❤❤❤I would say :” Yes”!! Even really start thinking about it while watching your video ❤❤❤ For me some turn off is that you need a lawyer to make a purchase of the property. But I would like to !😊❤
You're so welcome! I'm glad it peaked your interest too!
Move to NICE, Johnny
If only it was that simple...when someone is not a citizen of an EU country, the process to live there is very convoluted...unfortunately.
Lovely France.lets risk our lives on a dingy to the U k 🙄
Yes, I'm thinking it's such a beautiful place , why not move there. Home is where the heart is ❤
I'd personally chose the south of France over Ukraine, hello Johnny I have been following you for years but I wouldn't say Monaco was the most expensive place to buy take away food, take a look at the prices in Geneva or Zurich it is extortionate there. PS. I have nothing against Ukraine they are hard working people with a good heart who are honest, not sure about some of their government officials, it's well known there is corruption going on. Best of luck to you and I can't wait for you next upload.
Thanks! And agreed, Zurich was super expensive when I passed through. As for Ukraine, the country was plagued by corruption from the Russian days, but since President Zelensky has been fighting it since 2019 and has made a lot of progress to stamp it out.
Sure, if I was rich, I'd renovate one of those French castles/chateaus and live there for less than 6 months to avoid triggering tax residency.
Haha NICE IS indeed NICE in English 😅
Johhny, go back to Ukraine. You made Ukraine your home by buying 2 apartments. You became a resident. You need to join the army there and help them out. Or is that the reason you left? Did they try to induct you into their armed forces?
Hi, I'm sorry that I invested so much money into Ukraine, just so Russia could destroy the country and kill tens of thousands of civilians? Is that what you want to hear? Does that make you happy?
@@JohnnyFD You showed us that you invested more than money. You told us that San Fransisco was a shitty city and Ukraine was the place to be. You showed your friends there, you raised money; you shouted "Slava Ukraine". Then, when Ukraine asked Johnny fighting and diving to help with the fighting part, you left. No, it doesn't make me happy, and it doesn't make Ukranian people that supported you happy either.
Are you speaking on behalf of Ukrainians? They're very happy that I supported, and continue to support them. They are extremely happy that I raised over $100,000 to help them. What have you done to help? Be honest with yourself.
@@JohnnyFD well, that's a great idea Johnny. Go back and do a video with front line Ukrainian. Show how supportive of you they are.
