- It's time to mate the transmission back up to the rear end of the tractor, and finish the gears and seals in the front of the bell housing. Afterwards, I install new detent plates in the transmission covers to help tighten up the shifting.

As my dad used to say, "No need to start a job, unless you're going to do it right." Your attention to detail is remarkable. Thanks Pete!
Mine too! "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing right." He was RAF WWII Ground Crew in India. Istill miss him.
What a great way to start a morning - a new "Just a Few Acres Farm" video and coffee!
Agreed! I’m eating some ramen getting ready to go rabbit hunting
Got my coffee as well. And a good video.. . Good start to a Sunday
Thanks again for video. I really enjoyed watching it. God bless.
Pete, you continually amaze me at your knowledge and ability to restore tractors. Well done.
And to instruct us, the viewers, on how the various parts interact and their function. It's one thing to do something. It's another to explain it well enough so that others see the logic and function of those assemblies being restored/repaired.
Between you and your Pop, no restoration roadblock stands a chance! Dynamic Duo!
Pete - Kudos to your dad for his work to restore the shifting fork! Your dad has a lot to teach all of us.
Pete's dad did a great job on the shifter fork repair. The welding and finish machining looked great.
Your a natural educator . Wonderful to watch you make it right . I love your farm videos but this restoration is amazing . Thank you Pete for taking us along .God Bless
Great job 👏. Your the best 👨🌾
Good afternoon, Pete. You amaze me by having all your parts in order- My father would be proud of me watching your restoration, Farmall 856, instead of the "crap" on TV
Pete, you're amazing.
🥓🍳☕️ & watching Pete put the puzzle back together 😎
You are a little like the Mr. Rodgers of Farming and it's great! Very calm and composed! "Tomorrow, tomorrow, we'll start the day tomorrow...."
Patience, Patience, and more Patience. The best tool in your kit. 🇺🇸
A tractor is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna have to do more of. Lol. Love your videos Pete!
Thank you Pete for another great video. A young man could learn so much from you if he would volunteer his time just to work with you. When I was young I would volunteer my time and help Older people and learn from them. They have a vast amount Knowledge.
My anticipation is heighten, as we're getting closer to the final stages. i like the use of the rubber band to hold the pin bearings, such a useful tip. i can not wait to hear her purr. Pete this 856 is going to love you back in bunches.
Glad to see you added some new tools to help save your back.
What l like about your tractor restorations is you get them working like new and then you work with them. No trailer queens on your farm. 👍
Great job Pete!😇
Good morning Pete. Gonna be a great day !!!!!👍
Once again you have made winter so much more enjoyable spending time with your rebuilding. Although it’s just for a short period of time , it’s been interesting and fun . Your patience with and funny comments with difficult bolts , gears has taught me to be more patient with things on our small ranch . Thank you so much , you’re the best !
Great video again💪💪💪
Another great morning watching your "new" tractor heading towards the finish line.
Always a pleasure to watch you work. You do things precisely how I would if I had your skills. Every installment is outstanding -- among the best instructional videos on You Tube!
It's so great you still have your dad.!!❤ Hope he's around for many more years.
Great work Pete
first time commenter..i make my tractors look new and let a local mechanic do the nuts and bolts repairs.. to each his own level of ability.. you are very interesting to view.. thanks for another enjoyable video..at least you didn`t draw blood on this one..
I'm gonna pass out when you first operate this dream machine.
Lol, can you get that on video please?
@JustaFewAcresFarm 15 second short 🤣
Really enjoy your great attitude and methodology to working in this 856. Thank for sharing this experience with us
Good morning. Really enjoying videos.
I like how Pete talks to the parts he's fitting together. It kind of makes sense to me.
Good morning Pete great video I like the part where you had your father repair that part for your tractor. I’m going to work with my grandson when I do my Ford to end in the spring and I’m gonna be passing a lot of my knowledge I hope to him so not only is he going to get the tractor but he’ll get some of the knowledge I have and hope he help because hell, I’m 80 years old. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around but I want him to learn as much she can while I’m still here. Thanks again.
I did enjoy the video Pete. I'm subscribed to a couple hundred channels and yours is in the top 5 or 6 so THANK YOU Pete! May God bless you and your family. 👍
I'm still amazed that you remember what pieces go where when you put these back together. And then it all works!
Pete, You rock man. My wife and I enjoy you so much. It was great meeting you at the show last year.
@13:48.... Too funny... I want to guard my eyes EVERY time ..( my husband was a welder)..
Pete, I have to admit to a little "hero" worship. I wish I had the knowledge and talent that you have to do the things you do!
Nice editing, Pete.
Thanks for sharing. -EZ
Good morning Pete!
Nice work, Pete
It's always great watching you install new parts and how well it all fits together. Nice job Pete and thanks
Can’t wait for the next one! Another GREAT job Pete
Your Father's ability to redo a part is so helpful and you know it is right. Amazing video Pete! Really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing and all your efforts.😊
I really enjoy your rebuild videos
I realize why I enjoy watching you work and put the parts back together; it’s your demeanor. You are calm, not frustrated because you really seem to want to know & find the solution to a problem. You would be a fantastic instructor! Thanks
Pete it joys my heart to see a happy man , money isn’t everything ever time ,you r a very intelligent man living life at its fullest great example for us all . Really enjoying your vidios . Kingfish from Tenn .
Always a pleasure, Pete. I'll bet the old gent you bought it from would enjoy climbing aboard to see/feel the difference you're making to his ol' pride and joy.
I am NEVER disappointed when I stop by here during your restoration projects.
Your theory on restorations is right inline with mine!!! You're so soothing to watch and listen to and the machinery is the right color!!
I have really enjoyed watching you rebuilding the tractor. I have never been a guy who enjoyed mechanic work, but admired folks like you who have the love and ability doing this rebuilds. Just this morning I took my brother to pick up his dump truck and met the mechanic who does his repairs. Miles is a heavy equipment Mechanic and I asked him what piece of he enjoyed working on the most. Miles said he enjoyed working on Caterpiller D10’S. I guess every mechanic has his favorite machine or brand of machine he likes to work on. Growing up on a dairy farm we had a International Farmall H and a Ford 8N, now you know how old I might be. I can’t wait to see you finish the rebuild and see the tractor running like a kitty full of cream. I love ever minute watching you work!
Good day to all.
Great video as always and good morning!
I knew you weren't going to leave that rubber band. lol. Always good content!!
Kid's clothes rags are always around the shop reminding you of ten years ago.
We enjoyed it to no end. The muffler dad joke worked today on city folk..... A++ Thanks Pete.
It's amazing the engineering on these old tractors. Done with sliderules not computers.
Thanks Pete!
Keep Smilin!!!!
Hello Pete I sure am enjoying this rebuild. Couldn’t help to notice where have the jokes gone with an occasional joke it would be a perfect video. Thank you and hello to Hilary and family from Phoenix
Morning Pete
I’m Always excited to hear what you have to say about the farm. I hope to hear that the cows in the calfs coming soon with along with the pigs.
Thanks Pete 🙂. Got to spend another enjoyable morning drinking coffee with you.
22 degrees here this morning. Good time spent inside.
I admire the way you work Pete. Great job explaining everything.
I have really enjoyed watching you fix up the tractor . I did not know there were different kinds of lock tight ! Of course I have been enjoying all of your videos ! Thank you for sharing !

Koodos from another Canadian
What a great start well, almost a start. To my day. It actually started a 04:30, but you're close enough. Thanks Pete
Thanks Pete. This was very, very, interesting! I'm amazed at the engineering that went into designing this, at that time in in our history. To me it's remarkable!!
Pete, i love so much your "one evening" projects....that can last for weeks 😊
Thanks for your superb tutorials and shared knowledges.
Hi Pete..Outstanding video again today...you give me a lot of satisfaction watching you putting your tractor back together....and your knowledge is impressive..thank you enjoy your week....
Pete, Your mechanical ability and explanation of how you overhaul the Farm All 856 is extremely educational for all us viewers. Personally I find your knowledge of the inter-workings of the old tractor to be incredible. It must a thrill for you to consult and work along with your Dad on part repairs. . You must get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction out of doing the job properly. Thank You for sharing your knowledge on old tractors from another Pete from New Brunswick Canada
Great job showing and explaining in enough detail for a DIY guy like me!
I was concerned about leaving the rubber band around the bearings, but that took care of itself. Now I am less anxious. About that.
Probably stall the tractor
Pete, this serious is pure pleasure to watch. Thanks for your due diligence and style.
Pete, I enjoy these restoration videos, I have done many old tractors over the years. All colors, but only one IHC a 22-36 McCormick. Currently restoring a Model T Ford car that we plan to drive from New York to San Francisco via the Lincoln Highway this June commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 10,000,00th Model T that made the same Journey in June of 1924.
Thanks and GOD BLESS 😀
Hey Pete… I can’t believe you know where all those part go!! It amazed me when you took it apart… but this is unbelievable!!! Dang, your smart!
no idea how a transmission works but this helps and was explained well.
You can also use rubber bands for needle bearings for transfer cases as well if you or anyone you know is going to be working on one !
I love your farm and mechanical videos. I have noticed how soothing your voice is. The best of both worlds. KEEP EM COMING!
Pete, I think you NOW have enough blue thread lock for the next YEAR1! That’s the biggest bottle I’ve ever seen… 😂😂😂
Looking great like the way you strive to be accurate and consistent with the original build
Great video Pete.
Thanks Pete for the video!
I had an Uncle who service AC tractors and others for 45 yrs. That transmission you just finished is complicated beyond my memory skills.
your videos are amazing to watch always learning something new, keep up the good work, looking forward to more.
Love watching... Please keep educating us with your work ethic.
@6:56.."the click of my internal torque wrench"....
HAHAHA!! sounds like your internal Torque wrench could use some lubricant!!😂
Or maybe a disc in his back letting him know, "That's enough, now!" Lol
That internal torque wrench works great, or you could use the German torque wrench that says “That’s goodeneuf”. For me though I just stop whenever I hear gas flowing through a very small diameter orifice. I think it is air escaping from the threads of the bolt.
I like your final comments. I distinctly remember a Farmall F20 for sale at the Mecum auction in Davenport, Iowa. It was everything you said, but I especially remember the tightness of the shift lever. It was obvious to me that every bearing, every pivot point and linkage was back to perfect. Was a masterpiece. Thanks for your detailed videos. 👍😊
Great job Pete
You're a most enjoyable teacher and sharer of all that you've learned or picked up along the way.
It would be nice to see Papa Pete on the channel sometime. The Dynamic Duo!
Watching your restoration videos is like watching Bob Ross paint!
Thanks Pete.
With your tutelage I believe I have finally mastered using a Ball-peen hammer.
On what exactly is another discussion according to my wife.
Sunday morning with Pete. Almost a religion..... Almost.
I am really enjoying this restoration series. I marvel at the intricacies of this tractor.
👍a load leveler is a great investment. Saves time and energy. The short chains with hooks are handy for other purposes also.
I'm glad to see there's some people out there to steal. Want to do the job, right? Thank you, Pete
Impressive levels of specific information and knowledge my friend, love ur show, it's like a constant seminar for me and my machines, thank you bro
Another enjoyable video for me to watch, love these types with all the details and advice. Thanks Pete!
Looking forward to nine, been great as always!
Well sure. This is all just great. Every nuance. The fit and finish. Thank you so much for sharing all of this. 〰✨🌱🌾🌿👍🌿🌾🌱✨〰
Straking -a new Scrabble word for the day!
Good morning Mr Pete 😊. You are the magician for these older tractors 🎉. This is the 3rd one I've watched and its all remarkable 🛠️. Blessings to your house, waiting on springtime 🙏
