Good video! That Syncro Trans is Bullet proof. Drain the Trans oil and change the filter. I bet it will be good tractor.
Bullet proof and terrible to operate.
Sometimes those syncro transmissions will get stuck in reverse so just keep that in mind
Had a 4230 - just about the same tractor. The worst part of it was the 'hydraulic everything' aspect; lose hydraulics and you've got nothing. The second worst part was the messed up head that didn't let the engine start hot unless you had shut it down revved. Weird, and not JD's fault.
I don’t have much love for our 4430 either.
@@tmonteIH just sold mine,,,3 pt quad range with loader,,,owned it 11 years,,,,only had to add batteries from time to time and oil change,,,,
Not a Deere fan by any means. But nice save and probably way more reliable than Deeres new multi million dollar crap!!! Good looking ole work horse!!!👍👍👍
We had a 4230 and uncle had a 4430, they both were good winter starters without much more than an oil pan heater and block plugged in. Often had to get either one going to pull start the 4640 after storms.
Top 5 best tractors ever made........farmed with a 4230 for years pulled way more than it should have never had a problem except cold starting.......better have it plugged in.

@@tmonteIHI also operated a 4230. It had >15k hours and ran fine. A/C worked because one of the guys specifically kept it up. He used it for swathing. I used it to pick rocks, pull tine harrows and pull a rock roller.
And the radio worked good?!
Yep 12000 hours never had any engine issues. But it was an either addict when it was cold.

That old John Deere 4430 really shows its age, but it’s great to see it running again. Can't wait to see how it performs as a yard tractor!
He will get some good use out of it.
There were actually quite a few quad range 4430 models built. Ive heard some guys say they like the quads for chore work. Nice tractor!
Quad range definitely makes a great chore tractor. We have a 4030 and 4640 with the quad. Nobody liked the powershift around here.

@martymartin2894 quad range you have A B C D and then 1234. Powershift you have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 I think that's how many gears old Powershift has
@@Farming_With_Cole I believe the 30 series had 8 speed power shifts. So did the 40 series. The 50 series was the first with the 15 speed power shift if I remember correctly.
Very reliable tractors, have a neighbor who has one with over 20000 hard loader hours and hasn't been overhauled.
@@ScottJohnson-fs6je there are a ton of them out there still in daily use. That’s for sure.

that looks like a 725 loader. Awesome capacity that loader has and excellent lift height. It was a beast. More thanthe 720 for sure!

First tractor i operated 4430 with quad range. Felt like a bto !!😂😂
And now they are most guys small yard tractors.
I've never seen a 4430 or 4630 start that good, none of mine did .

Those 30 series, especially the first two years production were really cold blooded. Our 4230 and 4430, we plugged in the block heaters if it were below 50 degrees.

The way that fired up id say its not the original engine lol. But when the loader went up without chattering id say the hydraulics are pretty good on it still

That's a purdy clean old tractor, it just needs a little TLC, after that, it aughta be good to go,aughta be be able to put it back to work.

Needs hydraulic hoses, might need some adjustment to the injectors, thought I noticed em leakin off a little bit.
Buy that 4020 I have the brother to it standard with adjustable front end no 3pt had that same cab on it and everything

There’s a good chance it’s had 50 series pistons put in it. For it to start that good unless your in Death Valley on the hottest day is very unlikely

The updated injector pump made them start much better and 2 12volt batteries. Owned one a few years.
You can hook in to the priority valv on any tractor to prime up the steering pump with a hydraulic hose hooked into the hydraulic outlets to prime the high speed steering pump something to remember 😜

Had a 4230 on the farm with a loader, singles but we had snap on duals for it when we were planting. Had the synchro transmission and boy did I hate that transmission. No telling how many times I had to get a screwdriver to get it back in it's slot. If you haven't operated that type of transmission you will see. Worst transmission I ever drove on a tractor

Buffalo grass never really gets tall. The old lady had horses fenced in around it.

I wouldn't have bet a ny money it was going to start. Got nothing against a syncro trans. They're great in the 10 & 20 series but they are a pain in the ass in a 30 series.
We’ve got a 4230 synchro ourselves and I’d agree. They suck. I was absolutely floored it started that well.
Early models had the synchro , most late came with the quad and if that's 20 years of growth around it , lawn care must have been a must around it, great tractor though !
@@user-fx5fz3pr5x had horses around it the whole time. Buffalo grass in western KS rarely gets over 6” tall.
If it were me I would buy it, dump the cab, fenders, a tidy up and you got yourself a nice 4020

I think we know why it got parked…. Not understanding the point of that connection between the air intake and exhaust stack. Never seen that before…
It’s an aspirator. Venturi effect from the exiting exhaust gases sucks the dust off the air filter. More common than you’d think you just can’t always see them.
You should push to curl the bucket to be correct
@@jimcaro7819 push to curl ahead. Pull to curl back. Pull back to lift. Push ahead to drop. Pretty simple stuff.
@@tmonteIH not really it's been proven over and over by caterpillar and John Deere adopted it on there loaders it's way more efficient to push to curl and pull to lift

I did too till I started in coal mining and excavating after a couple hours I saw why they are that way

It's amazing how much stuff is around the old generation didn't part with some stuff for along time different reasons but it is getting clean up in gone the new generation get rid of anything for free or cheap they just want it gone they won't use the older stuff
