    That old John Deere 4430 really shows its age, but it’s great to see it running again. Can't wait to see how it performs as a yard tractor!

    Good video! That Syncro Trans is Bullet proof. Drain the Trans oil and change the filter. I bet it will be good tractor.

      Sometimes those syncro transmissions will get stuck in reverse so just keep that in mind

    Top 5 best tractors ever made........farmed with a 4230 for years pulled way more than it should have never had a problem except cold starting.......better have it plugged in.

      @@tmonteIHI also operated a 4230. It had >15k hours and ran fine. A/C worked because one of the guys specifically kept it up. He used it for swathing. I used it to pick rocks, pull tine harrows and pull a rock roller.
      And the radio worked good?!

      Yep 12000 hours never had any engine issues. But it was an either addict when it was cold.

    That 4020 is a Wheatland model I believe. Sold a lot of them in Canada. Pulling drills and disks, etc.

      A large percentage of 4020s on the high plains are wheatlands. Did the same tasks here too.

    Had a 4230 - just about the same tractor. The worst part of it was the 'hydraulic everything' aspect; lose hydraulics and you've got nothing. The second worst part was the messed up head that didn't let the engine start hot unless you had shut it down revved. Weird, and not JD's fault.

      Simple cure for that. Heat was the issue in the ejector pump.

    We had a 4230 and uncle had a 4430, they both were good winter starters without much more than an oil pan heater and block plugged in. Often had to get either one going to pull start the 4640 after storms.

    Not a Deere fan by any means. But nice save and probably way more reliable than Deeres new multi million dollar crap!!! Good looking ole work horse!!!👍👍👍

    There were actually quite a few quad range 4430 models built. Ive heard some guys say they like the quads for chore work. Nice tractor!

      Quad range definitely makes a great chore tractor. We have a 4030 and 4640 with the quad. Nobody liked the powershift around here.

      ​@martymartin2894 quad range you have A B C D and then 1234. Powershift you have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 I think that's how many gears old Powershift has

      @@Farming_With_Cole I believe the 30 series had 8 speed power shifts. So did the 40 series. The 50 series was the first with the 15 speed power shift if I remember correctly.

    Very reliable tractors, have a neighbor who has one with over 20000 hard loader hours and hasn't been overhauled.

    that looks like a 725 loader. Awesome capacity that loader has and excellent lift height. It was a beast. More thanthe 720 for sure!

    Nothing wrong with the synchro transmission, I had a bunch of 10 and 20 series with that transmission neve had a problem no issues.

      Those 30 series, especially the first two years production were really cold blooded. Our 4230 and 4430, we plugged in the block heaters if it were below 50 degrees.

      You’ve never been around buffalo grass before. Rarely gets over boot high. Plus she always had horses around it.

    There’s a good chance it’s had 50 series pistons put in it. For it to start that good unless your in Death Valley on the hottest day is very unlikely

    You can hook in to the priority valv on any tractor to prime up the steering pump with a hydraulic hose hooked into the hydraulic outlets to prime the high speed steering pump something to remember 😜

    I wouldn't have bet a ny money it was going to start. Got nothing against a syncro trans. They're great in the 10 & 20 series but they are a pain in the ass in a 30 series.

      Early models had the synchro , most late came with the quad and if that's 20 years of growth around it , lawn care must have been a must around it, great tractor though !

    I think we know why it got parked…. Not understanding the point of that connection between the air intake and exhaust stack. Never seen that before…

      It’s an aspirator. Venturi effect from the exiting exhaust gases sucks the dust off the air filter. More common than you’d think you just can’t always see them.

    Had a 4230 on the farm with a loader, singles but we had snap on duals for it when we were planting. Had the synchro transmission and boy did I hate that transmission. No telling how many times I had to get a screwdriver to get it back in it's slot. If you haven't operated that type of transmission you will see. Worst transmission I ever drove on a tractor

      I’ve had several tractors with synchro transmission. Even with many hours, I never had a moment’s problem with any synchro transmission.
