    They would be happier with a floor in the coop.
    I simply put a double newspaper, under the perch. Pick it up in the morning! Put down another double page newspaper, DONE!
    All clean, wow, took about 15 seconds.
    Your chickens are going to be drafty in the winter and won't feel safe!
    Seeing predators through the floor, or hearing them that close, will bring stress to the chickens.
    Stress = no eggs. Put the floor back. Just try the newspaper trick, so fast!

    Nice video. With all the mods I’ve seen people do to prefab coops I’ve decided to just build my own using ideas from videos. BTW, you are country as a butter bean. Love it.

    I thought this was a good video with helpful information about adding hardware clothe to the bottom to prevent predators from digging in. I have been looking at getting chickens for 10 years! But I just looked at the price online and this is 549.99 now! I knew it would up more expensive, but still! I have a very handy husband and we may just try to buy the materials gradually and make something similar. Holy crap, our country has gone south really quickly.

    Beautiful chicken coop and chicken run, the wire mesh you used was perfect for young chicks and chickens, and avoid small wild animal to steal eggs. it seems very delicate, hope you get more orders

    This was so informative. I can tell that you have had chickens and you know about them. I am aware that this isn’t the best chicken coop ever. But it’s pretty much my option since I’m not very handy. And I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a well built one. Hopefully this will last a few years. Thanx for the tips

    Tx for the video. I know this is 2 yrs old now. But I bet you regret leaving the tray off to catch the droppings. The nesting boxes going right where the droppings fall means the birds likely tracked poop into the nesting boxes as they entered to lay their eggs.

    I would only use this as a hospital or for a hen laying on eggs or as a brooder. No floor means frozen feet in the winter.

  • @swissmaid

    What about the cold wind coming through the bottomless coop?
    Or a preditor getting to the chickens, should they get into the run?
    Check the nestboxes bottom too, usually needs nailing on!
    Easy for a preditor to get in through the nesting boxes! They just push the floor open!

    • @sullivansteph
      @sullivansteph  3 года назад

      It’s not cold enough in my area for that to be a problem. Also, I attached 1/4 inch hardware cloth to the bottom of the whole run so it is completely enclosed. No chance of a predator getting in.

    • @swissmaid
      @swissmaid 3 года назад

      @@sullivansteph they still have to hear the predator , stalking them? All that scratching and breething!
      Personally I don't feel, like they feel safe, but that is just me!.
      And bythere way, even warm wind can be annoying!!
      You do want them to FEEL SAFE , cared for, don't you?
      This IS one way to make a chicken feel, you love them!
      Just use double page newspaper, under where they normally roost.
      Takes 10 sekonds in the morning to tzke ths edges and discard the newspaper.
      Then add fresh newspaper for a fresh smelling coop. 10 seconds work!

    What are you going to do about having a bottom panel / floor in your coop when the weather turns off cold, just wondering about that, I hope you saved the floor to install in fall/ winter time

    • @sullivansteph
      @sullivansteph  2 года назад +1

      A bottom panel isn’t necessary where I live; it doesn’t get cold enough in the winter months.

  • @lorenmeyer5290
    @lorenmeyer5290 3 года назад +1

    I have a question if you take the bottom out of the chicken coop Where is the chicken safe place? I have heard from others the coop is there safe place! I am wanting to start my own coop & chickens!

    • @sullivansteph
      @sullivansteph  3 года назад +2

      That’s still their safe place- they roost on the slats- the poop just falls to the ground instead of into a tray that you have to clean

    If you put your hand under the chicken (palm under and spread fingers between under the inside of their legs) instead of over the chicken you will find they are much calmer and start to get comfortable being held resting on your palm. If you go on top they believe you are a predator and will struggle. Never grab a chicken.
