    While I think one of these could be handy to keep in your gig bag as a backup, I can't help but think anyone considering one for a bedroom practice amp would be better off with a Vypyr combo- they're cheap ($120 for 20w, $200 for 40w), the 6505/6534 sounds are really good, and you can do a whole lot more with them.

    It's pretty much a signature tone as I've never heard anyone who sounds even relatively the same.
    Plus, no 4K cut in the post EQ?, were you able to dial it out on the amp's EQ?, or did they voice it with a predetermined
    4K cut?.
    Also, OD in the front?. I didn't notice one.

    I don't undestand why they copied Orange micro amp. Micro Dark is more louder and has a better tone but the eq is not for everyone. In my opinion this amp would be better with classic Eq and the classic reverb just like the other Peavy 6505 version. Two similar amp with a similar price but with different features.

    • @followfornothing
      @followfornothing 7 лет назад

      mercuryfaith From my experience the Micro Terror was garbage and it lacked low end big time, sure I could have put and EQ and a Overdrive pedal in front of it but why bother?!? The Orange Micro Terror is complete a total shit and in my opinion there is no point in trying to polish a turd.

    • @mercuryfaith
      @mercuryfaith 7 лет назад +3

      followfornothing I said Micro DARK not micro terror! Anyways these types of amp are designed to have a good value for money so it's obvious that you need a few more pedals for a better tone...I tried the Micro dark, there is no comparison with a real amp (I have Orange Dark Terror and Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier) but for the money is good.

    Pretty sure the tube is a gimmick for show only. Doesn't get hot and doesn't light up. The red lights in the amp try to make it look like the tube is working.

  • @richardwilliams1310
    @richardwilliams1310 7 лет назад

    another nice comparison would be running the fx send/preamp output of the Peavey 6505 Piranha into the fx return/power amp input of say the Peavey 6505 MH and then replacing the Pirahna with the MXR EVH 5150 preamp pedal connected the same way vs the stock Peavey 6505 MH in a 3 way shred shootout battle for metal supremacy \m/

    • @richardwilliams1310
      @richardwilliams1310 7 лет назад

      you could also then do the reverse test and plug the preamp out/fx send of both the Peavey 6505 MH and the MXR EVH 5150 into the fx return/solid state power amp of the Peavey 6505 Pirahna too ... to make the battle more even, using the same cabinet ir sim in the daw or Two Notes Torpedo Live or Torpedo CAB with the power amp setting bypassed in the Two Notes, therefore CAB only sound \m/

I found a triple X amp at a local pawn shop for $150 . 40 watts all tube with 3 channels . for less than the price of the piranha head . even if you can't find an amp foe that price I honestly think you're better off spending about $100- 150 more on a used peavey xxx or 6505 combo . if you look on guitar centers used section , Craigslist, eBay , you'll eventually find some for a great price

    I thought it sounded ok, but still think 180 is too much, If youre going bedroom amp, might as well get one with a bunch of effects. I picked up a Fender Musstang 1 amp and it sounds great, has lots of effects, and you can plug it into your PC change the effects from there, it acts as an audio interface so when you record its a high quality without the need for mics or virtualizing effects software since the amp does it. I was lucky to find one for $80 in a pawn shop. At the time I thought it was some kind of older discontinuted Fender amp but was pleasantly surprised, and even seen one at BestBuy for 169.99 the other day. Highly recommend it for bedroom. The PC connection is what I love the best, you'd have to buy a separate interface for that, and then buy amp models, with this you get them done by Fender, themselves so they sound really good recorded and live.

  • @x-STORMXX-x
    @x-STORMXX-x 4 года назад

    You actually can use this at a band jam but, I think you are going to need a 4 by 12 guitar cab and nothing less so you can move enough air. Also my band is only a 3 person band so me being the only guitar player with a bass and a drummer I was able to cut though the mix. If you were playing with another guitar player I don't think it would work out as well. I have played on all kinds of amps we often use a Marshall DSL 100 and I say that just to show I have other gear laying around that is much louder and this small amp does get the job done. My issue with this amp is for me though is it's not enough to play with as far as EQ and so on and I wish it had a real clean channel. I play metal so for a lot of songs this was not a big deal its just I do like to cut to some clean stuff for slower parts of some songs and this amp will not do this at a band level. It really only does one thing and I found it annoying that it did not take all my guitar pedals well. So all in all what Fluff said yeah I agree 99% this amp wont do band jams unless you are the only guitar player hooked into a 4 by 12 and want to do straight raw metal with little to no effects. The tone is not to bad and was better then solid state amps iv played but, forget about any gigs the tone is not that great including recordings unless you after some kind of experimental sound. As for a bedroom amp all the same things apply for the most part although you can clean the amp up some but, still forget about all your pedals working nice with this amp because they wont and the tone again is great but, is missing something once you played better amps. To me this amp is really just for the lol's because it's fun to play on a small amp because why not I find it hilarious and it's a cool conversation and experimental amp to have laying around and because it has only one sound and nothing to play with you can't really do anything wrong so its great to come up with riffs and ideas on the fly. Also my band did not always play together sometimes me and the bass player would just get to together and it was nice to not have to take all my gear just to go over some riffs. One day maybe theses small amps will be better but, for now I would not tell most people to go get one unless you found a good deal or have extra money to play with. And even though I was able to make this amp work for many of my songs with my band i'm going to be real guys save up and get something better. Word on the street has it that the Orange micro terror is louder then this amp so if you are looking for a amp like this and wanting to do band jams maybe but, I think that amp may have a lot of the same issues to me that this amp has but, don't take my word for it as iv not played that amp.

      I'd say that 0:34 through 0:39 in this demo sounds like a combination of the intro to dead memories and the chugging part at 2:40 in the 5 minute version of Vermilion leading up to Mick's guitar solo

      Slipknot has the some of the best written songs in the metal genre, other than Periphery.

      Flix I can see you don't know jack shit about metal. At face value they don't sound all that bad but after hearing other bands who write more complex riffs that just sound a lot more unique then they do, They're
      a pretty generic band and they don't hold up we'll outside of a fucking Hot topic or 2001.

    In a mix it sounds OK but on it's own I feel like it would sound thin and weak.

    hi guys. what do you think,it will be ok for live?

    Is there a reason you can't use it in a live setting? It's the same wattage as a Tiny terror and I've been to shows where someone uses it un mic'd and it was fine. Maybe an eq thing?
