Just want to add, I got one of these in part on the strength of the review and in part based on the quality of the SMK 25 ii keyboard I have.. I have to say is was not disappointed. This is really a great pad controller, and the pads are IMHO nicer and more sensitive than either of the Akai pad controllers I have and are also better (maybe because of the larger size of the pads) than the pads on my Launchpad X, which are also great feeling, sensitive pads. The various settings are very easy to navigate as well. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to get the transport controls to work with Loopy Pro, and there are a few other things that I feel are left out of the manual.. Otherwise, this controller is absolutely a winner and I would happily recommend this to anyone. It's my new favorite controller.
3:48 "A little delay". As with all MIDI controllers since forever, there are different encoder pots and different MIDI messages that can be understood by the hardware. See if you can change the setting of the pot to latch. The reason the default is set to 'catch-up' with your physical pot setting is so that you don't get a sudden jump in information IE a filter, a reverb, volume, etc. It's safer for live use, you see.
For the knob, you can try different settings in the editor. Set 'Type' to 'CW', 'Left' to 127, and 'Right' to 1. I use Mvave with Ableton, and this works for me. Basically, Ableton will read those settings as an endless encoder.
the app is quite nice. I have the foot pedal and mixer they make and it's a joy to map. glad you're enjoying the pads! gonna grab one to pair with Oneshot! :)
Great review, nice detail. I appreciate your work! I already have M-Vave's SMK 25 ii keyboard, and i have been super happy with it, and the app works well too. The pads on that keyboard feel very similar and have similar dynamic response to the pads on my Novation Launchpad X (which are very good, responsive pads). Between that and the strength of your review of this, I just ordered the SMC Pad. If the pads on that are as njce as the pads on the SMK 25 and my Launchpad X, I'll be very happy. The battery life kn the SMK is really good (so i expect the SMC will be similar), and the Bluetooth MIDI is excellent. I also ordered the M-Vave Chocolate controller pedal, as I have need for aome foot control in my setup. So far i have been happy with the quality of the M-Vave products I have. If you want to avoid Temu (I know I do), you can fet them off Amazon or AliExpress. The SMC pad seems to run around the $37-45 dollar range, which is still very reasonable this quality MIDI controller. I'm curious to know if the pads on the SMC are also pressure sensitive for aftertouch like the ones on the SMK 25ii. Not a deal breaker if it doesnt, as i have other controllers that have pressure/aftertouch sensitivity, but it sure would be nice if it does.
What a good video, its like you read my mind. Im thinking please show this this way and you then do it, you earned a like and a sub on this one. Excellent. No fuzz, no useless info, it was simply exactly what I needed to see, you have a lovely voice and it all just works. So what does that all mean? This: THANK YOU
Excellent. Great tips on how to avoid problems and the basic capabilities. I just ordered one for my iPad, and planning to try it out on a number of apps including Koala, AUM, EG Nodes and Logic Pro, so we'll see how it works. Thanks!
I'm curious how you like these pads compared to the Machine Mikro? I've been tempted to buy a used Maschine or Mikro (I also have one of their S series keyboards that I absolutely love), as I have heard great things about the Maschine pads, but I'm so in love with the fast convenience of Bluetooth MIDI (especially for the iPad) that I decided to spring for an SMC Pad first. I just put two of my other controllers on the CME Bluetooth WIDI system too LOL.

I bought one of these just before you, via Amazon. But I can only get MIDI mapping to work over USB-C, and not bluetooth. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting it in Koala, and redoing the MIDI mapping in Koala, but still it only works via USB-C. Has anyone else come across this issue and has any tips for me? I keep wondering if I have a faulty unit? It shows as connected in Koala, by bluetooth, but is otherwise playing dead over bluetooth. Any advice would be most welcome.
@@nervouscooks Thanks, and no worries. The guys on the Koala Facebook page said to ask you. :D But I have resolved it now. I did a factory reset of the controller and it was straightforward after I'd done that. :)
@@aquietgarden Nice to know that. I had the same problem. I have to use an external mini support app, like blemidi(suggested by Koala). It did connect via bluetooth but it only works for a few seconds or minutes, then suddenly one of the pads get's kinda lock in a down position on the Koala app, no matter how many time I press and release it on the M-vave thing. The pad only unpress itself if i touch the screen, but the connection seems lost after this bug, although that is no warning for lost connection or anything. I'm using the M-vave with a samsung s10plus mobile phone, it only worked properly via usb-c cable. Does anyone had the same issue?
Maybe mine is buggy but the Bluetooth doesn’t even work lol and from what I’ve seen from other people, Bluetooth doesn’t work and transport controls don’t work
Right on. Just a reasonable question - have you ever used anything, anywhere, which used a play button like this (having to hold it down)? You would be hard-pressed to give me an example of that ever occurring on any software or hardware, even as an option, I'd wager. They wanted you to install that app. It was very important to them that you installed that app. So, they made it very important to you to have to install that app. I will just leave it at that. You're a smart cat.
Not really, yes the most obvious is to control koala with the sp404 but you also have banks for the sp404 alone at the same time and all the sp404 functions available, you can record directly on the sp404 or koala, you can play perfectly on sync stuff on koala and the sp404, it’s like if you expand your sp404 adding all the goods koala have and viceversa.
