I think the misunderstanding is that we Muslims aren't allowed to eat fast food hamburgers like McDonalds, since we don't eat meat that came form an animal that hasn't been slaughtered in the Islamic way (which is scientifically proved to be healthier 😉). other than that we can eat hamburgers if we provide halal meat.

Lost a couple of Muslim friends after an argument that started during a conversation on folklore when I wondered what Arab folklore looked like before Islam; they both insisted there was no "before Islam". The also insisted that Arab folklore wasn't influenced by any culture outside of the Arabian peninsula, despite all the trade routes through there, the fact that parts of Arabia were once ruled by the ancient Persian empire, and the fact that basically every culture on Earth has been influenced by the other cultures around them. They argued that since Saudi Arabia itself was never ruled by the Persian empire, Arabs were never influenced by Persian culture. And one of these guys was working on a history degree at the time!

I used to see his videos on Facebook a lot. I think I got recommended him because I watched Dhar Mann videos sometimes for laughs and such and he's kind of in that same genre of videos where it's light entertainment. Usually he or him and his wife would talk about something interesting for a few minutes or highlight some interesting facts about different cultures, etc. I'm curious as to why he got canceled. I wasn't a fan or anything but I do kind of know who he is and watched some of his stuff sometimes.

I never got the uproar over the argument "I'm not racist, I have black friends." Because that's a serious argument. Why would someone be friends with a person they hate on an intrinsic level? You'd think the argument would be "they're not actually friends," but that is never used. It's always "you can be racist and have black friends." No. No you can't. Racists in American history saw black people as below dogs. You don't break bread with your dogs, let alone something you view as lesser than them.
I'm just left wondering if people don't understand how evil a mindset racism is, or they seriously undervalue what a friend is. Considering I've seen the term "platonic date" thrown around, I'd say the latter.

Yeah, I've learned the hard way that a lot of Muslims seem to believe Islam predates even Judaism. Lost a couple of Muslim friends after an argument that started during a conversation on folklore when I wondered what Arab folklore looked like before Islam; they both insisted there was no "before Islam". The also insisted that Arab folklore wasn't influenced by any culture outside of the Arabian peninsula, despite all the trade routes through there, the fact that parts of Arabia were once ruled by the ancient Persian empire, and the fact that basically every culture on Earth has been influenced by the other cultures around them. They argued that since Saudi Arabia itself was never ruled by the Persian empire, Arabs were never influenced by Persian culture. And one of these guys was working on a history degree at the time!
