- In this video I'm installing a 12volt solutions remote start kit on my GX460, it uses the OEM key fob. Easy diy!

Thanks for posting. Very informative. Super helpful. Does it work on all later models of the Gx. Can't understand why Toyota...Lexus dont have remote start off the key fob. Makes no sense. Thanks again. Great vid.
Yes it should work just fine with all model year gx460. They are all pretty much the same. I agree, when you're paying that kind of money for a luxury SUV it should already come with remote start.I guess they are cost cutting?
The 12volt is a good plug and play unit. It comes with Installation Videos and Manuals. You took apart more than you needed. You don't need to take apart the knee airbag section and all the lower kick panel molding.

You need to pay $39 per year if u purchase a carlink app from amazon. But 12volt offer free forever. Maybe I just go with 12volt. Thanks for ur video.
Carlink is the manufacturer and service provider, i would rather have reliable service from a company that is going to be around for a long time. 12volt is just a reseller, not that that's a bad thing. Also I'm 95% sure that even with 12volt solutions you will still need to pay after the 1st year, i read that somewhere on their website. IMO $39 a year is very cheap, people pay $10 per month just for a simple tracking device service with no remote start feature. Here you're getting tracking, remote start, remote lock/unlock, remote window open/close, i even do all this from my Apple watch, all for $3.25 per month. I spend like $6 a day on red bull 😁

Quick question about the car link add on to start from your phone, does that locate your car anywhere in the country? Like LoJack? Also after 1 year subscription is up, how much is it to get it reactivated? Thanks for your helpful videos!
Yes anywhere in the USA. After the first year it's only $40 per year. Apart from vehicle location it also displays battery voltage, lock status.
I forgot this but if you're good with electrical stuff you can actually assign different triggers and activate/deactivate then from the app. I personally am not fit with electrical stuff but any good Auto installer will be able to do it. For example trigger windows open, windows closed, trigger horn, hazards, trigger 12v system, or even a refrigerator.
I already have the “factory” remote start. Hitting the lock button 3 times. With that can I buy the carlink and have it be simply plug and play?
I'm not sure on that, you'll need to find out from Carlink. Hopefully there's a way of hooking it up
whats the functional distance to activate remote start from the OEM keyfob? i hear its really short
I've never really tested the range but it's got to be at least 100ft.
Hey that was a great DIY. Does it always shut off every time you open the door? If so, then what is the point of installing remote start? Ive watched their other videos and it seems like it happens to all Lexus vehicles. Were you able to somehow combat that and have it stay when you enter your car?
Nothing can be done that i know of, only way to bypass is if you go thru the rear cargo door. Unfortunately.
At least you can get your car nice and cool in the summer time or warm and toasty in the winter.
Also you can call me old school but I like to warm up my engine a little before i start driving, i just feel like when the engine is warm it's ready to give you full power right away without worrying about any wear. It's also easier on the transmission if it's already warm.
Unfortunately there engine does turn off when you open the doors on all Lexus and Toyota vehicles.
I think the only way to bypass this is to swap out the cargo door switch with the drivers door switch, that way the vehicle thinks it's the cargo door that's opened. 😁

The shutoff ensures no one gets in and drives off with your car.
Exactly. However they could've done it a different way like on my Mercedes, if you open the door it won't shutoff, if you press the brake pedal without the key in the vehicle then it shuts off. Much better execution by Mercedes IMO.

Can I do this on a GX470? I've also heard that you can't use it on a double lock - meaning when you have to hit the unlock button twice to get all the doors unlocked this won't work. Great video, BTW. New subscriber.

Steering wheel control and horn does not work after installation of remote control start help
Did you plug everything back in? Did you maybe by accident damage any wires?
Try removing the remote start and put everything back the way it was before to see if the controls start working again, if they work again then it must be the remote start messing with the system.
In that case contact 12v solutions and see what they tell you.

Purchase this kit with the app kit. Follow all the steps but the module wont program, it stays with the red light on. Awaiting on 12v solution for assistance. Do you have any tips or tricks for this
Not sure, but i also contacted the 12volt guys and they helped me out. 12volt has different videos for different remote start devices and connecting the carlink. Make sure you have the correct connectors connected.

Is your 12 volt remote start working ok on it's own without the carlink? Process of elimination sometimes helps

Will this device work with rolling down all your windows? If you hold the lock button down?
Hi Michael, this device does not add that function. However your GX already has that function from the factory, press and hold the unlock button and your windows should open, press and hold the lock button and the should all close. If it doesn’t work then it needs to be activated
@@DIYSpeedGarage just double checked, doesn't work. I have a 2016, bought this year. I went to the dealership for the 50k service and asked about my software, they said it was updated in July 2020. Do you know how to activate this? Thank you for your time and knowledge
It has to be activated with an obd2 device like CARISTA, then you can do it through their app. It’s very easy, plus many other settings can be activated/changed/disabled/enabled

Anytime Michael, I appreciate you watching my videos. Also don’t rely on information from the dealer, they are just like robots and are only programmed to do what they know. They don’t know much about customization, I can guarantee you that you and I know more about our cars than their service techs do. Btw you can also add auto folding mirrors to your gx, when you lock they fold, unlock unfold. Although you need to buy a little dongle and leave it plugged in for that to work. Let me know if you want me to send you the link.

I wanna know if you have the link for this específic item cause I don’t want purchase the other module that I saw in another video. It was for the same Lexus GX460 it was 12volt solutions but it had diferents components so it looks harder to instal instead of the one u have in ur Gx that looks much better and easier to instal definitely I want this for mi Gx. DIY Speed Garage Looks great. I have a 16. The I just bought a remote starter kit. Hurricane Sally interrupted installation. Guessing there is a big difference in design judging from their instal video and yours?
Who's video are you asking about? 12 volt solutions? The remote start kit i bought and installed in the video is the latest kit they have, the installation method should be 100% the same for all 14-19 GX460.

That is a feature Toyota/Lexus have on all models with factory or aftermarket remote start. Must be programmed into the ECU as a safety feature?
@@DIYSpeedGarage so if you turn the car on remotely and then want to hop in the car will shutoff and you have to turn it on again?
Correct, as soon as you open the door it will shut off and then you need to restart again. Even with a the remote start from the Lexus dealer it would be the same.
For example on my Mercedes it does not shut off the engine.

Well in most cases the main purpose of remote starting is to get your car nice and cool or warm. But i see what you're saying, i feel the same. I want to get in and go. On my Lincoln mkz hybrid it's like that, you get in hit the drive button and go. On the Mercedes you put the key in and turn it to ignition then you go.
