      I think it's pretty ironic that you do such a good job with your channel to be professional and respectful and yet RUclips always penalizes you and that's these people who lie and spread disinformation about the virus or elections to run rampant on here. I don't get it. But I'm glad to see you still here. And this is yet another great video brother.

      The WBSS is definitely what the sport needs. It was much better than the Super 6, and made more sense than anything else that happens in boxing.
      But just like the SMW tournament - where American based fighters like Benavidez, Ramirez, Dirrell all sat out - the same thing would happen at LW also... 😓

    I didn't know this was a real thing. Amazing. I was at the gym talking to one of my buddies about how boxing NEEDS a prize fighting tournament. This is awesome

      American networks did not promote the tournament at all and American fighters were largely underrepresented - of of the top of my hear I can only think of two US fighters that fought across all versions of the tournament...

    Aplogies in advance! Unfortunetly had edit out small clip out around the 4 min mark due to copyright claim from Top Rank. I basically say how Mayweather vs Pacquiao. took several years to make and arguably was made when both fighters had superseded their primes. That leads onto the back forth between getting big fights made.

  • @jaywrightesq.7730
    @jaywrightesq.7730 Год назад +3

    WBSS was great, but unfortunately the American promoters largely ignored the tournament, and would not enter any fighters with any brand recognition
    Top Rank would sign the winners after the event; but Top Rank, PBC and Golden Boy wouldn't want any of their big names being risked in such a tournament

    • @BoxingLife
      @BoxingLife  Год назад +4

      Yeah I think with the rise of influencer boxing hasn’t helped. These broadcasters/promoters would rather promoting those shoes than legit boxing. I think 2020 didn’t help either. But you never know it could come eventually

    WBSS was a showcase for undervalued divisions. Right now it would be great for Middleweight, Super Featherweight, Featherweight, and Flyweight.

    • @BoxingLife
      @BoxingLife  Год назад +1

      It sure did! Those divisions would really benefit from this right now. Would still love to see a popular division get involved. But the biggers name would want more money.

    The super series got a casual like me into boxing after only watching Pacquio fights with family members. Even MMA was my go to for a while but now I'm a boxing fan more than ever. I hope the super series or any tournaments can get started. Maybe even include influencer boxing as part of it. I wouldn't want to watch it but seeing boxing skill progression from amateurs would probably peak my interest.

    Cruiserweight needs a little life injected into it. 90kg should have some insane talent yet seems so stale... Needs a superstar.

    • @BoxingLife
      @BoxingLife  Год назад +1

      Yeah lots of potential in the crusierweight division with Opetaia, Billiam-Smith, Riakporhe, Okolie - even the old branch of Briedis, Jack and Makabu etc some good fights in that division

    We don't need it as the sanctioning bodies just need to order best fighters to fight each other

    • @25taylorkw
      @25taylorkw Год назад

      If I had to be honest, I would prefer the World Boxing Super Series to become the premier league of world professional boxing by replacing the sanctioning bodies with also signing the top fighters from the PBC, Top Rank, Matchroom Boxing, and a couple of other promotions as well. In other words we can make the World Boxing Super Series become the UFC of boxing. Of course we will have to do things legally like reforming the Ali Act so that the promotion could also be the sanctioning body in order for this to happen.

    SMW epitomised why "glamour divisions" could not host the WBSS; with Benavidez, Ramirez, Plant, Dirrell etc all sitting on the sidelines, while the European fighters filled out the tournament... 😓
    The same would happen if a tournament happened in a division like LW; where Haney, Stevenson, Davis, Lopez etc would never have entered 😓

    V late to comment but I watched this vid again n we rlly need the WBSS back fr but when u talked ab promotional issues I’m thinking to break that y can’t the WBSS be it’s own like promotion n host the fight streaming thingy if u get what I’m tryna say. Like for example showtimes hosts it’s fights, top rank hosts it’s fights so like surely the WBSS itself can host it. Now I hate this sport sm n it’s ftbl but w their tournaments I think don’t they hv sum tournament called the ULC or sum idrc like the for ULC they hosts it’s matches n the ftbl World Cup just hosts it’s matches so surely the WBSS can just host the matches
