So much is made of Ben's tenacity and unorthodox style - but can we take a moment to appreciate his sportsmanship? Guy is super chill, doesnt get bent out of shape with bad calls, and is just there to compete and have fun. If for no other reason Ben should be an example to other players out there of ideal on-court behavior.

When I saw Ben vs Sean I thought wow, a rematch... but it's a different Sean. Thanks for this series; I always like to watch Ben play. And yeah, his game really has improved.
I can’t believe it’s been 3 1/2 years. It’s funny I had no idea this was coming and I just rewatched 4 classic MEP matches this week. Loved when you turned the essential tennis logo green in those classics:)
I would be really interested to see Sean play a 4.0. If you just looked at this video, you might think Sean is a 3.5. I do not think that is true though. As a solid Atlanta 4.0 myself who has also played Ben, I can assure you that against Ben, none of your shots feel like they work. You are constantly getting balls you do not normally see at 4.0+ but the spin and placement is so ridiculous that you feel like you cannot do anything. I think one of the reasons 4.0s have a tough time against Ben is because often the things we lack at 4.0 are active feet, approach shots, and volleys. I believe effectively executing those things against Ben are the way to win, but my footwork simply is not good enough. I think Sean had the same issue. Decent speed and decent footwork are two different things. So many fast people still lack the footwork. Hope to see more of Sean in the future.
Welcome back MEP.. 👍🏻 😎 First time i've seen MEP play in a blue 💙 t- shirt and not a green 💚one.. Also wonderful to see Ben is still in great shape and in good health too.. 👍🏻
Tim Wakefield used to throw 35mph knuckle balls that no one in the league could even touch, he would strike out guys as they were standing at the plate and watching the ball land in the strike zone, Ben reminds me of Tim, and a guy I play against a few times a month named Herdon. Herdon literally plays tennis with a Walmart Wilson racquet and beats people by getting every single ball back in play. The last time I played the guy it took us almost 3 hours to finish 3 sets, and I thought I was going to die on the courts, because down here in Florida the courts are hot enough to fry a egg on the court. I am so impressed with Ben’s spins he puts on the ball and he is serving better than before, and I would love for Ben to be my doubles partner because he has really good hands and great touch, plus I am 52 years old and I can’t move as fast I used to. By the way looking good Scotty and Ian with his new haircut! Great job on the video and Congratulations to Ben and Sean on their match it was a pleasure to watch both players go at it! Thank you RT!
@@CaocaoXI you’re right, I’m very impressed by the serve, the early contact point and the power on the forehand. A lot less pushing than I saw last time out.
one thing that is not mentioned about ben is how intelligent he is you can tell by his little comments how smart he is that really adds to his game i think better looking players cannot think on his level
Great to see MEP back, maybe this'll light a fire under TennisTroll to start posting matches again! So never noticed this before, but Ben's serve seems like it would be great to SABR against. Very little spin, absolutely 0% chance of a kick serve, and he tends to put it in the middle of the box more often than not. Although I guess that wouldn't help Sean since he doesn't seem comfortable with coming to the net.
Ben is terrific - if you just look at the balls he hits and not the style used to hit them, there's a ton excellent play and strategy there. Thanks for the video!
Whatever people think about Ben's style of play, he was making 3 of 4 first serves per game with decent speed which will win you most service games. Big overall improvement in his game. Good on him
This is so fun to watch! I would question my very existence if I played against him. Me panting, huffing and puffing, and Ben casually hitting frustratingly slow passing shots by me as I run awkwardly in the wrong direction. Its never the blasting fast shots that are frustrating. Its the crafty well placed slow shots that hurt your ego, and make you want to hang up your racket and start knitting.
I'd love to see a MEP vs. Ian rematch. I think it would be closer this time, however, I'm still not sure Ben would be able to overcome Ian's net play on a fast court.
I guess they gotta build gradually, but the fun of MEP is when he makes some cocky guy's polished strokes break down - this first opponent is a little MEPy himself with the push serve and the dink backhand slice (MEP hits both harder, it seems!), so there's a some contrast lacking.
Sry but hell no. He is a scary opponent for 4.0 and low to mid level 4.5s that struggle with certain parts of their attack game(short balls and slices). The average 5.0 usually has a much better control, depth and stability that enables him to neutralize the unorthodox shots of MEP. As a 4.0 I played opponents like him a lot. Now as a 4.5 that is able to beat good 5.0s these opponents are relatively easy to beat. Just keep the ball deep until he plays a short ball. Then shorten the angles and let him run or just finish it with a winner. I respect MEP a lot because I learned the hard way that technique isn’t worth shit when you play guys like him when you lack stability, fitness or polish to your shots and tactics. MEP often uncovers the weaknesses in the game of his opponents and then picks on them. This often leads to a downward spiral of self doubt and frustration… I must also emphasize that he has really polished his game. His nasty sidespin slices, especially on his forehand would be a nightmare on the indoor carpets that we usually play on here in Germany…
this match made my day! i've missed watching MEP! he's definitely improving. my highest ranking is 4.5 and i would say i'm a 4.0 now and he's the type of player that destroys me. like someone else said earlier--i would definitely have a strategy of serving and volleying and trying to end points quick. but i know if i was slightly off he would kill me. looking forward to the second set and hopefully more matches between RT guys and MEP.
just by looking at the first few minutes, i can already see that Ben's strokes have improved. also much less pusher touch touch kinda stuff although still a fair bit of slicey stuff. he is also using a little bit more of his non dominant hand for balance. definitely a better player than a few years ago. well done on the improvement. He is overall better and more consistent (baseline, net, serve, probability, IQ) than Sean at this point , with all due respect. In a nutshell, Ben's game has actually become more orthodox. 🙂🙂
Ben has definitely added some things and improved. That’s particularly impressive for a player with such unorthodox strokes. I would love/hate to play him. I know one thing-I would be going to net at any opportunity (even questionable opportunities!) because volleys are my strength, it’s the best approach to playing him at level and the only possible way I’d even survive the match without keeling over. Ben looks like he could play back-to-back 5 setters, both physically and mentally. He plays like he has all day to crush your spirit. I played guys sorta like Ben, but he is the best practitioner of the “junk” game I’ve seen. It may not be apt to use that “junk” descriptor given the zip he can put on the ball, but I do so with only respect for his game and what he does on the court.
Ian where is the moustache? Great to see MEP back on the channel, he's got the best name in the world after all, absolute nightmare to play against, not surprising Shaun was a newbie to the channel, no one else is willing to play against Ben. He's so tough, hats off to him man. Good on him!
Felt bad for Shawn. Put him in against a beast. There are a lot of player like MEP. You watch them and you think they are weak, you play them and they crush you.
Hey guys, great to see MEP bacK! My one critique of the video is that we hear your commentary of what happened before we actually see what happened. Can this be fixed?
MEP is such a nice guy👼...but when the ball is in play...ooooohh so diabolical 😈. You know you're a legend when your nickname starts as an acronym and becomes a verb.
Shawn looks like one of those players that has a nice looking backhand and can beat up on most run of the mill rec players - but it doesn't give Ben any trouble. So Shawn starts trying to run around his backhand to hit forehands and he's not quick enough to cover the court after hitting inside out forehands. I see no path for Shawn to win a set - his weapons do not put any stress on Ben. But I appreciate him for putting himself out there. MEP is so match tough - I can't imagine trying to beat him. You either have to be in very great shape to win a war of attrition or have a lot of firepower to take the racquet out of his hand.
What the RUclips masses have been waiting for..😂. Now Ben looks leaner and has improved serve and techniques/strategy. Nightmare. His opponent looked like 3.5 and wasn’t having the best of day. Poor serve, spraying forehands, and bad footwork. Kudos for him for posting
Really poor ball judgement too. Worse than that of many beginners. And he’s supposed to have taken up tennis 20 years ago! That doesn’t seem plausible to me when I see such poor ball judgment. Even standing on a court and just observing ball flights and the effects of various spins would allow you to read the ball in a much better way than he demonstrated here.
MEP was known as “Green Shirt” guy on the TennisTroll channel before “Most Exhausting Player”. He was always wearing a green shirt in his matches. They are wearing green shirts in tribute. I don’t think there is any significance of the brand.
@@Pinworms666 Playing like one. I think they are both supposed to be 4.5s. I don’t think he is a 4.5. I’ve only seen the beginining and I’m out, not really quality I want to see. I’ll check back after more have watched and if comments are suggesting it’s more interesting.
Sean is just beating himself there. Yes MEP is playing better for sure but Sean's balls are too short letting MEP come in to the net. I also noticed that Sean does is actual take back on the forehand way too late right before hitting the ball and that's gotta make timing very hard. Preparing earlier would do wonders on that side.
And Sean, you're certainly moving decent enough. MEP's court awareness and placement is stuff of legends though. But I'll get on camera and show ya what an enlarged posterior looks like! 😁
we have a few guys on our team that have mastered the forehand slice, it is deadly accurate and does not rise, a topspinner is not effective when the ball does not rise, I've been adding the forehand slice to my game and it's not as easy as MEP makes it look
to think that mep is a pusher is to not understand tennis , actually he is an agressive player to me with all those dropshots , slices with side spin and transition to the net and I would love to play such an opponent
Nah as a 3.5 good chance getting bumped to 4 at year end, this playstyle I know I would struggle. One matchup I would like to see, probably impossible to pull off. Over on OliveTV channel, the guy she fought in the video “attacking vs defensive….”. I feel like that guy is like a super evolved version of MEP.
I can assure you that the tennis scene in Atlanta is really high quality and Ben is a legitimate 4.5 player. I have a group of friends playing 3.5 at nationals right now and Ben would roll all of them and it would not be even close so I seriously doubt if Ben would bagel most 3.5 national level players that even a 4.0 SoCal player would have a chance. As for Sean, you have no clue how bad a 4.0 looks against Ben. I am confident you would be shocked if you played him.
I literally couldn't have played worse I just came off elbow surgery and got a chance to play a legend and took it. I would like to play again but channel is going away.
MEP is Faster, Smarter, his slices are Meaner, his serve is Faster, more Consistent, better placed and Dirtier, his strokes are more Dialed IN, he has cleaned up his forced and unforced errors. Tim Hardaway-esque Ankle Breaking no man's land Slices!! Alcaraz-esque Lobs and Dropshots!! It's the dawn of a new age!!! I give you MMNEEP....... Middle-Aged Mutant Ninja Extremely Exhausting Player!!! 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
If I had to play MEP, i think i'd be as super aggressive as I could be. 3rd ball I hit in every point would be a winner for one of us...mostly for MEP but only way I'd have a chance would be to keep points as short as possible hit lots of winners and errors and hope for 1 more winner than error. I predict I would lose 1 and 1. If I tried to play his game i'd lose 0 and 0.
MEP is a veteran 4.5 players. He would easily absorb your power (assuming you don't have 5.0 level power). I would try my best to stay in my comfort zone and play it out using my most consistent shots and also hoping my legs will hold up against his. If you follow his matches, the worse losses were from those who tried to out-dink/drop/lob him. They probably thought "I can do it too" which is partially true. However, it's very taxing playing out side of your comfort zone. You may be able to do it for 5, 10 minutes, but gradually you mess up your timing, focus, confidence and die a slow painful death.
@@chubun6631that’s how I see it too. You’d need 5.0 power/consistency to beat him purely off the ground. At same level the vast majority of players would need to take a lot of balls out of the air to have much chance. This guy isn’t going anywhere and every ball is coming back in ways that don’t lend to teeing off.
One of the things that MEP' s do is that they hit deep balls very deep, 99% in en with almost zero spin. It doesn't look very great but it's actually annoying as hell because as a 'conventional' tennis player you never get into a nice comforting topspin rally. No free points and you have to create all the pace and spin yourself. It's really a test of your true level. 4.5 and up (like Scott) can manage this and brush MEP's aside. Below that you get exposed like a snail in the sunlight.
No disrespect, but Sean does not have either the power to beat MEP nor the consistency to hang with MEP. It will be 6-0 6-0 and will get even worse if they keep on playing when adding fatigue to the mix.
Anytime dude just hit a normal topspin shot Mp curried it in the net, yet he kept re-slicing and playing old man games. MEp is not hard to beat, you just can't be old with a default slice backhand.
Learn to hit the ball to spots on the court, different heights, different lengths. Hitting harder and with more spin is meaningless without control. Get the ball back and in one more time than your opponent.

we have a few guys on our team that have mastered the forehand slice, it is deadly accurate and does not rise, a topspinner is not effective when the ball does not rise, I've been adding the forehand slice to my game and it's not as easy as MEP makes it look
to think that mep is a pusher is to not understand tennis , actually he is an agressive player to me with all those dropshots , slices with side spin and transition to the net and I would love to play such an opponent
Respect
doing this on camera would cause me insomnia
why isnt MEP wearing green?
Three matches and no washing machine 😉
Man seans grunt at every serve 😅😂
I also make a weird humming sound when I eat idk. 😅
He's still taking souls
Nah as a 3.5 good chance getting bumped to 4 at year end, this playstyle I know I would struggle.
One matchup I would like to see, probably impossible to pull off. Over on OliveTV channel, the guy she fought in the video “attacking vs defensive….”. I feel like that guy is like a super evolved version of MEP.
Hahhaha! awesome! MEP!
sean is not matching Ben's Tennis IQ...hard to compete against him like that
I would pay money to play MEP. It’s a lot harder than it looks.
Love your attitude!
In SoCal, these guys are both 3.5s
Classic
MEP plays like John McEnroe..
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Ian should give MEP a rematch. I thought he was supposed to travel down to Atlanta to do so.
Hopefully in the future! I haven't played a match this year.
Does MEP have a racquet sponsor yet?? =) Turning into one of the tennis icons xD
He should!
Yup
Yeah Ian is back!
❤
0:17 Why are those guys dressed like surgeons about to operate?
No disrespect, but Sean does not have either the power to beat MEP nor the consistency to hang with MEP. It will be 6-0 6-0 and will get even worse if they keep on playing when adding fatigue to the mix.
Definitely tough matchup
your voice over is like ahead of the video fyi
MEP is BAAAAAAAAAACK
My man Ian looking like Jerry Seinfeld hahah
😂
You guys look like doctors or nurses
😆
who did MArks 3 way lol???
NOT ME
Anytime dude just hit a normal topspin shot Mp curried it in the net, yet he kept re-slicing and playing old man games. MEp is not hard to beat, you just can't be old with a default slice backhand.
He has beat some good players with topspin games. What makes you think he's not hard to beat? Try it.
MEP! which prince tour racquet is he using?
I forgot, hopefully he chimes in
Prince ATS Textreme Tour 100 (310g version)
You guys making ready for surgery 😂?
😆
Learn to hit the ball to spots on the court, different heights, different lengths. Hitting harder and with more spin is meaningless without control. Get the ball back and in one more time than your opponent.
Tf is that snoring sound
The trolls come out so hard because we've all lost to him. And it hurts the ego.
😂💯
This was about as entertaining to watch as pickleball.
you guys look like a couple of proctologists.
We do deal with assholes sometimes 😂
