Your student in the video is demonstrating a hook under your watch / guidance with his elbow travelling lower than the wrist. Hooks are always elbow either level with or higher than the wrist. If you land a hook with the elbow travelling lower than the wrist then you will predominantly land the last 2 knuckles on the fist also known as the " Boxer's Breaker Knuckles ". You want the first 2 knuckles on your fist landing & that is the index finger knuckle & the middle finger knuckle, to achieve this have your elbow travel behind either level with or higher than the wrist height. Well at least that's what I was taught at the start of my 20 years of boxing & now have been teaching. Good luck with it all mate.
Unfortunately I have to agree, your elbows are too low, you’re overturning on your hooks and hyperextending therefore making yourself vulnerable to being timed and knocked out. Lighten your punches and get a better trainer, anyone can punch hard but punching accurately with CORRECT form should be paramount, as you’ll hit just as hard if not harder with much less effort.
No worries, let me know if there is anything else you need help with. I'll be adding new videos over the next few months, so if you have any suggestions that would be great
@@jamesconnelly6678 it's a good art, and the concept makes a whole lot of sense. To be honest, I've not tried it myself, but having studied Wing Chun, and other related arts, when practiced properly and with live resistance, there's inevitably great things to learn from it. What do you think?
@@Not_The_Pizza_Guy Thanks for sharing - We have plenty of videos coming up soon related to that topic. Take a look when they're out, and let us know how it helps you!
You can either whip or pull in the same direction while throwing hook punches during shadowboxing It depends upon your preference. But, you have to push your hook punches when you are practicing on a bag unlike your straight punches as you have to retract the straight punches no matter you are shadowboxing or practicing on a bag.
@shm v1 It depends on the context. The distance, timing, situation, your style, as well as your instinctive reaction will all play a part in when to change how you throw a technique. Of course, this is all more advanced strategy, so to begin with, it's easier to learn one way (like in the video), then develop your style as your training continues. What are your thoughts on the above?
Basically this video is promoting a way to break your Knuckles. Particularly if & when you throw a hook with bad intentions/aggression and have that elbow travelling behind lower than the wrist. You will more than likely break your knuckles, particularly if or when you are in a bare knuckles fight. Please amend your video. Boxing intelligence starts with good constructive criticism. Good luck my friend.

Aren't you supposed to whip your hooks or is it okay to push through your punches when throwing a hook?
