I am having an old tree that has split removed right now. It’s so sad. And it changes the years completely. It seems I have worked so hard this year to put new things in, and now I must rethink my beds. But, nothing lives forever and a gardener’s opportunity is someone else’s challenge. I know you and Aaron will love what you decide to do. Praise God no one was hurt. That’s really all that matters.

Arborists chips make the BEST mulch. Apply directly to the garden beds 4-6" deep. Suppress weeds (or they are at least easier to pull), moderate soil temperature in all seasons, hold moisture, provide habitat for slug & snail egg eating bug life, more bug life will bring more and varied bird population, and it costs nothing.
Garden with nature in mind and give the habitat time to balance. It's science and it works.

I had my water oak taken down is Spring. So many dying branches on top due to mistletoe. Was really sad, I grew it from a rooted acorn I found near my home. It was over sixty feet tall. With hurricane season coming I was concern for my neighbors fences and all our roofs. I never dreamed I would have to remove it. But, sometimes hard decisions have to be made. Safety first.

They can get very tall, but we had about the top third of them cut off. Now we just go out every fall and trim of the boughs that are getting too big or too high. They just fill out beautifully every year and are great shade threes.
