I feel like a million things happened I need to mention: 1. Adéla debuted her new single today, which is so good, the chorus was stuck in my head for weeks when she was promoting it (istg I feel like lady gaga and britney had a baby) if you wanna support it click here: open.spotify.com/track/7904wbV03rb4S0gGliqBk4?si=f175860e00b44a79 or her channel: ruclips.net/video/antEtIjkYqc/видео.html 2. Thank you Eunchae for your time as Music Bank's host, you did amazing despite everything that was going on! Crongrats to ILLIT's Minju who will be carrying the torch onwards, wishing you the best. 3. No, I am still not feeling Katseye as a group until I get better music but I will say, words cannot convey the amount if love and respect I have for Sophia and Lara. I absolutely adore them. And Megan and Daniella are such stage presence queens. I'll see as time progresses if I'll like their music. 4. The NWJNS live: Honestly I am so tired of talking about MHJ and her sick tactics to get into the claws of these children and their equally ridiculous parents. I will say, if you think they did the live all on their own accord, you are delusional. It is not a coinsidence that this live happened at the cusp of ILLIT's comeback. I feel like one of three things is happening here in my opinion; either a) NWJNS are not being given the accurate information about what MHJ has done (I mean her literal CRIMES, and the way they talked about copyright and all, it is likely they are just not aware of what is really going on) and how her behaviour has affected other groups, or two: they know and do not care and are just horrible people, or three: they are being blackmailed into doing this, because they may be young but they aren't dumb. You could never make me defend someone who called my groupmates names and justified SA unless you have something on me or my group. MHJ is sick and no amount of "wanting good music" for NWJNS will justify that. These are young kids need to be protected. K-pop failed to do that when we told you MHJ is unsafe and now again fans refuse to protect them, what will they think when they are older and start seeing things clearly? HYBE is definitley no saint in this either because the protection of these girls should have been a priority and honestly, I do not htink it's being taken seriously. The "well they wanna be with her so let's issolate them" attitude is not productiove either. I understand that there is a possibility that their hands are tied because of the girls' parents but at least look like you are trying. Lastly, I do not judge people who are running out of sympathy for NWJNS, while yes they are kids, their constant mentioning of MHJ's in support of her must be frustrating for them. I also feel, as terrible as it sounds, that as fans (not companies) but as fans, the only way to save these girls is to abandon them completely and pray, then maybe, their parents will have so common sense and rethink keeping their children linked to MHJ (unless they are being blackmailed or something because at this point, anything is a possibility). She is shameless enough to wanna take NWJNS down with her if she doesn't get what she wants. I still compassion towards them because I know how hard it is to free yourself from manipulation especially at a young age, and I continue to hold hope that someday, someway, they'll be free of MHJ. 4. Billboard and New York Post's ranking of LISA's VMA performace: I will never understand NYP's hate boner with BLACKPINK in general. Calling LISA a K-flop... what kind of language is that? Accusing LISA of lip-syncing when we all heard her sing live, the issue was the loud backtrack, on top of that her performance was good saying "she left us wondering how she got invited" when she is 1/4 of the most popular girl group in the world right now is a joke. If you are going to review a performance, and tell us why it is bad, try to articulate yourself like you have some common sense and proffesionalism. But I am not too bothered by it because if I've learned anything about LISA, when people pull stunts like this, she always proves them wrong. And that's it. Hope you are having an amazing weekend, I love you guys so much and am grateful for the amount of outpouring support on my recent content. God Bless.
I've been seeing multiple bunnies say Hybe has been mistreating and sabotaging Newjeans which I believe to be false. Yes I agree Hybe could have taken extra measures to ensure the protection of the girls, but to say they are sabotaging them seems extreme. When I asked them how Newjeans were being mistreated this is the reply I got: @Scarlitoons:low promotions, guarding problems, taking away the only one there for them and actually helping the girls grow. their new CEO does not care about their music, of you had seen the live new jeans. I stated Hybe funded them which helped provide their mv's, concept's, advertisements, endorsement deals, promotion activities, etc? They replied: Bro Newjeans overshadowed Leserafim which BSH made so he jealous of their success even making illit to copy newjeans. Yeah BSH is a child😂i told u he jealous of Newjeans success cause they overshadowed lesserafim ( they are still amazing group tho). Its not about the money anymore its about that the group he made lesserafim is being overshadowed by MHJ group so he also made illit to copy newjeans formula. They truly believe Hybe did NOTHING for Newjeans and that MHJ was the only one there for them. They think she saved them, so if the girls want her back she should come back.
Would you make a video about the last two ?? im so tired of how people making hating on bp and the members look so normal , and i think the guy who wrote that has a problem with lisa cause latter billboard upload another review of lisa performance ( wich someone else wrote it ) and they just praised her and another things most of people that talked about her lip syincing , say it was lip because she didnt struggled , like are you serious ???
Can we also talk about how messed up it is to give the girls a “therapist” and FILM IT?!?!? I say “therapist” bc in my personal opinion as someone who works in medical malpractice there is no legitimate therapist who would say this is healthy and a good practice. It’s lip service. I hate survival shows and I never can finish them bc it just feels dystopian.
i don't even work in medical fields but in my work i need access to my clients' health records and clinician contacts. even just getting a doctor to confirm they've met a patient requires a whole consent process with clear guidelines. we have yearly government mandated trainings on the release of information like this. i can't imagine what type of legitimate psychologist would agree to publicizing this type of sensitive material.
I feel like ppl online blew the whole "manon was bullied" thing so out of proportion. I understand both sides. Sophia and the other girls are frustrated their hard work isn't being acknowledged by the audience and manon is frustrated their feelings towards the voting is being taken out on her. It's weird
Sophia was a lock no matter what. She's consistently #1 or #2 on fan votes, and consistently #1 on performance during Dream Academy. For T&D she was always in the top 6.
manon also wasn't raised in competitive training environments unlike the others. she's also from switzerland, which is a country that teaches the value of work life balance. it's likely that manon was simply unfamiliar, and subsequently ignorant, to the situation that she was in. she probably had no idea how she came off to the others, who were rightfully upset. manon did have to wake up to reality, but she wasn't malicious, i can't really think of her as a bad guy. just someone who had to grow up.
you could tell that all of the girls LOVED Adéla, she was super talented and charismatic, not to mention her work ethic. her helping hinari during the “pink venom” practice shows her character… I hate what the producers did to her, painting her as a villain and damaging her image after her elimination.
i COULDNT believe adela was eliminated so early, i wasnt even watching the show, but i was rooting for her after i saw her pink venom fancam, i thought for sure with her stage presence and talent that she would make it...
@@tsuchinokooo hating anyone from the show is so forced. It seemed like the producers had to work hard to create any kind of narrative with any drama-which in the end reflects positively on all the trainees
As a Polish person, I really don't understand the backlash for Adela wanting more Slovakian representation. I would also love more Polish representation in global entertainment, no matter what skin color said Polish person would have. I would feel wayyy more represented by a black Polish artist than a random white American girl. In most of the world, it's the nationality that is more of your identity rather than race. In many countries, you wouldn't even consider your race a part of your identity. After thinking about it wayyy too much, I think the whole issue arises from the cultural differences of how people identify themselves and what makes them feel represented between the US and the rest of the world.
The backlash is they don't think Slovakian, they think White, and therefore Bad Racist Race. Therefore "social justice" which is NOT justice led them to cheering for bad against good.
This is also why I think it was kinda shady that they released the doc way after the group was picked. The majority of the audience is going to be already fans of the group, so it’s going to be edited in a way that benefits the current group. Also HYBE was going to have Manon in the group whether it was fair or not, they literally scouted her, which wasn’t fair to the other contestants.
What do you mean by that? Manon isn’t the only one scouted? Manon debuted because of her fan votes btw. If it’s just the judges score that matters, she will not debut. It will be Emily who would debut.
The docu literally showed us that Manon is in the group because of the fan votes. In the finale, none of the judges chose her as their pick. Lara was scouted and is both the judges and the voters pick. There's a difference here. Not saying Manon doesn't deserve her place, but her fans got her in the group. Not because she was scouted or because it's Hybe's wish.
@@VDO-ty3bw life isn’t fair, some contestants were in program longer than other trainees, some contestants spoke english while some couldn’t. they all had advantages and disadvantages in this competition also lara was scouted as well. if this was about fairness everyone would’ve started out at the exact same time with the same skill set.
@@starling93that’s true but there’s truth to Manon always going to be in the group. Or at least they were going to try. It’s not always up to the judges that’s always seen. THEY scouted MANON. Lara was scouted too but she had a musical background. Manon was just pretty. And they sent someone to HER and allowed her to do a lot of stuff that no one else did. She was gonna be in the group. It’s always up to the higher ups, not just the judges. Yes fans too but the directors and execs choose too.
So interesting, reading your comments. Adela is Slavic and Eastern Europeans are definitely letting it be known that there are as much distinctions to being classified "white" in that part of the world, especially as she was specifically put in a versus situation with the bi-racial Manon, who is from possibly the poshest part of Europe (Switzerland). Yes, I did watch all episodes of the documentary and I too had issues with what you brought up as well. Adela was obviously representing her nation through herself (one person in a very specific situation), she brought it up in her video (she had a lot of airtime). She was possibly the most mature of the trainees - the instructors could rely on her, the girls looked up to her, she herself showed up day in/day out. How it panned out was not a conundrum: KPOP is more/less a youth market and her type of maturity did not pass the marketability of KPOP stans, hence her voting was always on the low end. HYBE can say that she was "meant" to be a soloist blah blah blah but she thrived being in a group, being with the other girls so their reasoning does not pass the smell test. She just wasn't meant to be in THIS GG, especially if they don't change the music they're pushing out right now. Sorry, when I first heard Touch, my first thought was HYBE was giving them a version of ILLIT's Magnetic and to prove my point, they played Magnetic in the documentary. It was a reinforcement to how they mean to market Katseye. Anyway, the silo-ing of HYBE's divisions (or they should be but in reality they are not) is a topic to be tackled in another MV. Thanks.
i also think something to keep in mind is that adéla is from eastern europe, and in europe in general race is *not* viewed in the same way as it is in america. in the u.s. adéla is labeled white, but back home in europe she's simply slovakian. because of that her concept of "race" is going to be different than someone who was raised in the u.s. and it is unfair to treat her the same and expect the same of her as someone of an american background.
I feel like if she had a more natural look in her face hybe might have given her more of a chance.. like they did with Brooklyn. Hate to say it but hybe cares a lot about visuals...
Tbh I think the only reason they hated her was bcs she was Eastern European. As sb from the region we aren't exactly the favoured part of the world by people from America. It's not a fashionable to them as being Italian or French and honestly. Slavs always fight for representation, because we don't get much and when we do it's not always favourable. Hell in the new Beetlejuice movie they called Maria Skłodowska-Curie FRENCH! She was polish and proud of it. Like born, raised and lived there 23 years. It's not cute to be slavic sadly, that's why I feel empathy for her. What you said is true, race is only an American concept and nobody in this region unless exposed to American culture, because well no country in the region colonised and there was no systemic racism ever.
@@duqial 100% agree about eastern european features and their culture not being considered as desirable here in the states. i'm american, but my ethnic background is predominantly polish and german, so i have some eastern european features. (people also often mistake me for russian because of my name and features) and i certainly don't fit the "euro-centric american beauty standards" that people complain about in the states all the time. it's sad because i find eastern europe a fascinating region that is very unique and different from westerrn europe, but a lot of americans just lump all of europe into the category of racist imperialistic countries. which if you actually look at the history of eastern europe couldn't be further from the truth. (the english word 'slave' literally comes from the slavic people!) the whole situation just makes me hang my head in shame at how my fellow americans are behaving. does american culture have a lot of influence, yes; but not every country is like america, and that's what makes this world so beautiful.
I just know people are gonna be mad about the video title but it is so so accurate. If Adela and Manon had been the same race, everybody would have understood Adela's perspective easily. But because Adela is white and Manon is black, people just reverted to the default reaction of "a racist white girl attacking a successful black girl" but that is simply not what was happening here.
@sasasavage5047 yeah people were for sure hating on Naisha too (and Sophia and Lara), but what I mean is the type of hate targeting Adela was a particular type of hate. It was almost all focused on race. She was written off as a "jealous racist white girl" immediately, people just projected a race issue onto something that had nothing to do with skin color and it could have been really damaging to Adela's reputation. The hate the other girls got was wrong too but people took the opportunity to get the extra dig in for Adela because she was the white girl in the situation and it was easy to be like "she's a racist"
@@bluetheon honestly now that we have context, I think their criticism is fair, but how they went about it is kind of kinky, but I understand her feelings and it is very valid. But the reason a lot of Manon fans doesn't like her is because of her action immediately after DA. She was at the venue where the final members were selected and she, didn't cheer when Manon was called, took pictures with other members and excluded Manon, congratulated everyone except her. When they called her out she said they weren't close, which is fair. But when they tried to tell her congratulating someone even if you are not close to them is just being a good sportsman, she replied rudely making herself look like a sore loser. Glad she's doing well for herself now and hopefully they'd get over their differences, they were young and under and immerse amount of pressure and a lot of people will do the same or even worst
@Bae-t8p yeah I definitely get what you're saying, but I just can't help but think I'd be bitter too if I'd been there since the beginning, worked my ass off, got consistently rated at the top by the judges, only to get zero support from the public while someone who skipped practice gets tons of votes 😭 btw I am in no way saying Manon deserves hate, your last paragraph pretty much sums it up - it was an extremely high pressure situation and I don't think any of them should be forever defined by how they handled it, what they said or didn't say etc. We all have conflict and tension like this in our lives at some point but most of us don't have to deal with thousands of people's opinions on top of it all 😅
Thank you for covering this issue with such logical and complex explanation. For me as a Czech person (we used to be Czechoslovakia, so we're still a little similar in terms of mentality), it was evident from the start that what Adéla meant was that other countries, such as European countries, are not well represented in this worldwide enterntainment that is dominated by Americans and that she wishes for more representation - not skin colour wise but nationality wise. But since the majority of kpop stans who watch these kinds of shows watch them from American perspective where everything is essentially about race, it was quite obvious what the outcome of Adéla's statement would be. It wasn't even surprising because we were served the opinion we should have on silver platter by the production team which is really sad because Adéla seems like a really nice girl who just wanted to be a singer but now she has to deal with the consequences of stupidly edited video. Also, as you mentioned Lisa in your pinned comment... I don't know.. I have to disagree a little. She is such a great performer and singer as well, I don't understand why she had to have such a loud back track- she didn't even dance that much. But that would not even be the problem, I just feel like the performance was a bit underwhelming?... I expected more dynamics from her performance, but that's just my personal subjective opinion which does not come from the the place of hate. I just expected much more from such a big star. EDIT: Also!! Thank yosu for making videos, your perspective and opinions are refreshing during these times hehehe.
I think people here, America, know little next to nothing about that part of the world and the stablishment is trying to erase so hards "white" and european culture that hurts, specially because it is part of the roots of America.
I do see the producers are trying to paint Adela as a "sore loser", but they were quite fair because they also showed how Adela was helping and loved by all the other trainees too. I feel like the issue is that most k-pop stans are not used to seeing idols as humans with mixed range of emotions so it translated badly as if Adela is bitter.
The hatred of Adéla was so forced because we know if these girls were the same race, or more importantly if their races were swapped, this wouldn't be an issue.
Just the fact that nobody is mad at Sophia when she was also talking about Manon ans she was the one that actually confronted her and they were all talking in a circle... it wouldn't look good to hate on her I guess.
I feel like everyone is missing the point. NONE of the girls deserve hate. They were all in a difficult situation as young as nineteen or twenty years old. It’s weird seeing yall shift the hate from Adéla to Manon now 😭 the actual problem is the way in which the producers pit the girls against each other. Putting girls in a public, worldwide voting system was highly unethical. The reality is every girl, understandably, reacted in the most human way to the most unhealthiest, toxic environment imaginable. If the problem is the fans too (which it is) then make that clear, yall. Blaming the girls for something they have no control over is wild..
@@dokessezeaka5159 yes, which is totally right! But I’ve seen ppl in this comment section call Manon talentless and undeserving of her spot :/ which is not okay
The hate towards Adela was so weird to me. When I watched the 5th episode, I didn’t think once about her being a blonde haired white girl, or that she was jealous. It was so obvious that she was trying to show representation for her nation. Even as a black American, I understood that. To minimize this to a “she’s white, so she can’t speak on a black person” is just so immature. Especially when it was shown in the episode that, besides Manon getting sick, she stopped coming to practices, would sleep in, wouldn’t take the training seriously which would make her fall further behind in the skill level between her and the rest of the girls, and yet she still had high ratings and made it into the group. I’m happy she picked up her own slack, I’m actually happy she’s in the group. But this type of mindset is what sets the black community back so much. Deeming all of the things that seem unfair to us as “racism” is not going to push us further. Sometimes, our race is the reason why we’re overlooked or the complete opposite. But in this situation, it was clear that Adela was significantly more talented than Manon and she was simply expressing her frustrations about the voting as was all of the girls. She’s not racist. And to be fair, the entire process of this project was unfair in multiple ways than just this situation. I hope Adela and Katseye achieve great success.
agree thats y these survival shows are so messy these days, altho ive been enjoying boysplanet much more due to it not being as toxic. I hope they release a korean song cause their songs sound like an early 00s english only pop song thats why I was confused as to why its considered "kpop" or not theyre not exactly a korean aimed group per se. but i wish them good luck as well bc kpop generally is harsh on its idols and so are knetz
To your last point: I was happily enjoying the show in the beginning. There was something very cool about the idea of exposing people from other backgrounds to the fabled KPOP regime of training. I was totally onboard! I wish I had found out about all of it sooner! And then that troll of a producer shows up and openly attempts to justify manipulating these young women and pitting them against each other in pure Mean Girls fashion. The tone shifted completely. You could see the heartbreak in the contestants' eyes. This is NOT what they signed up for. This was a disgusting assault on their dreams. Some took it on the chin and rolled with it. Some became casualties of it. But it is ridiculous to me to infuse "reality" show tactics into what was a really great idea. You're forming a group that will spend the coming years together working their backsides off. Why would you attempt to shove animosity and infighting into that recipe? The plan was clearly brought about by the hollow little hag producer who laughed about it like it was just good fun. These contestants were aged 14-21. Their lives are dramatic enough.
@@lothwicke yeah I thought that was absolutely disgusting. They wanted to implement the idea of American reality tv into it and that was such a horrible idea. Lexi dissociating is what really broke me
I'd like to point out one thing as a Slavic girl. We don't really associate with the term white. We're Slavic. Abd as a Slavic person, who loved Adela, i was rooting for her so much. I felt represented because of her presence and motivation and passion
@@1024sofia we consider ourselves Slavic. That's what I said. We don't associate people with the color of their skin, we don't group people like that (unless you come across someone who's ignorant/racist but I'm talking about the general people). People of darker skin in Poland would be offended if you call them a *color* person. That's why people of African descent born and raised in Poland don't like to be called black. They'd tell you to look at the black ink on paper and ask "am I that color? No". We use our nationalities to describe who we are. I'm not white because I don't look like a white peace of paper, I'm Polish because I come from Poland and because I come from Poland I'm Slavic. That's it. Outside of America it looks a bit different, it's cultural. I tried my best to explain this as English isn't my first language, I hope you respect how it is here. Being told all the time that "you're just white, what the fuck is Slavic" is tiring
@@1024sofia Tbh, myself as a Slavic person I don't even identify myself as Slavic as much. My identity is just Polish. Maybe I would think of myself (just a little) as Slavic. And I am white but being white is not a part of my identity. Like, being Polish or even Slavic says stuff about my culture, language, history etc. But I wouldn't feel connected with other white people just for the fact of being the same color, if that makes sense? I would feel way more represented on a global stage by a black Polish person or e.g. a random foreign-born Asian who just happen to be very enthusiastic about Poland and speaks the language than a random white American girl with whom I seemingly have nothing in common besides the color of my complexion.
Something I’ve noticed A LOT, is that peoples who says the (uncomfortable) truth and addresses the “elephant in the room”, is that they’re always painted as the Villains 🙂
@@lolano3392 EXACTLY. Like… Let’s not act like we wouldn’t be upset too if we ever had to be in the same situation as them, because that’s a huge lie 😭
I didn't know any of the girls or the controversies before this vid popped up on my FYP. But I believe, not even regarding her Slovak pride, any thinking Slavic woman who spent most of her life in a Slavic country would feel Adela right away. Americanized racial politics that rotted most of the international k-pop stans would never allow people to even try and find out what it's like to be, yes, white, and yet dirtier, not even white enough to other whites, what it's like to try and break into industries that had painted you, a Slavic woman, either as a prоstitute or an obedient wife for decades -- that's literally all the repersentation there is, she was right to say Americans can't experience that. And that's leaving out the obvious: the poverty of the majority of the Slavic countries compared even to Western Europe, the lack of opportunities, the doubled amount of hard work required to ever get out and survive abroad which are the issues that, as far as I get it, these people are convinced only POC could experience.
This!!! People are so quick to deny whichever opinions and thoughts slavic people have about representation just because we are white. Wait until they find out that not all white people look the same and people from different areas in europe actually have distinct features.
I stopped watching survival shows for that reason as well, the prettiest would debut, the drama would happen in almost every single episode and it raises my blood pressure knowing a contestant I like would not be picked because of votes that don't make any sense. What happened with Adéla doesn't surprise me because people think they can´t be racist and disrespectful to white people due to privilege but forget that even among white people there is prejudice and discrimination. Even if they were a different race/ethnicity, how is it that being racist and discriminatory towards white people makes you better than the ones they complain about? Also, this is not he first time happening but has been happening several times where kpop fans will voice their disdain for certain attitudes and behaviours but as soon as they see a contestant or idol speak about it, they flip on them. It's honestly mental.
Thank you, seeing hate towards adela from a teaser video on the internet was so uncalled for, and even after the show came out, it was out of pocket to bash her when she was the sweetest in the show EDIT: I just saw she posted her new music video!!!
I watched and voted from the beginning, all we had was the videos hybe released of the mission only. So ofc The girls that sang seemed more talented. Its a shame she never got the chance to truly shine Adela in the first mission stood out too much. Her clothes made her look bigger than she was and she was also dancing next to the two smallest Asian contestants… sometimes I wonder if the company did that to her on purpose
THANK YOUUU people don’t understand that the person that spent the most time with the girls (Missy) said herself that she wouldn’t debu Manon due to her lack of proffesionalism / work ethic and even the fact that that she had to moove out of the house for rule breaking on multiple occasions just ads insult to injury
@@anicah906 ofc she said that at this precise moment you don't talk badly about the final line up once it's been announced it would make the producers look like clowns. If manon was always gonna be part of the group as you said it only makes adela's comments about Manon even more pertinent

Samara hardly had any screentime & manon was higher in votes most of the show
Thanks for making this. Those who became Manon's fan before the doc came out are going around spreading false information about the documentary and trying to convince us that we didn't see what we saw in the documentary
As someone who was a fan of her prior to the documentary, it was extremely disappointing to see how she behaved during training and anyone who wants to scream racism to excuse her poor behavior is delusional.
Kpop Stans are known for lacking common sense. The fact that people forget that what we saw and what was shown in the documentary was just a fraction of what happen during 2 or more years is baffling. Survival shows after documentaries all with evil editing and they still managed to give these big corporations the reaction they wanted. They still haven't learned a thing. Smh..
I agree Adela was correct. I will say though she doesn’t fit in the group. Even as a soloist she feels a bit too try-hard, nothing is natural. She would have stood out in the group like a sore thumb. Manon wasn’t as talented as her but she’s miles more charismatic.
the only villain is HYBE. I did not approve of Manon's behaviour at first but so much context is overlooked in that situation (which is understandable because it's a few hours out of 2 wholes years for the girls)
yeah ever since the documentary, i haven’t been able to stan manon because it felt like she took it seriously when she realized she had a real shot of debuting/being famous (i dont count tiktok fame as famous lol). it just feels lazy to me when everyone else put in the work from day one. and honestly, her work ethic only hurt her in the end because i’ve yet to see a live manon fancam where she doesn’t make choreo mistakes. im sure she works hard now, but idk it puts a bad taste in my mouth how she handled the situation before and i was confused as to why everyone got mad at lara or sophia for rightfully calling manon out.
I think that’s a fair reaction. I personally didn’t like her more after the documentary but still find her to be my favourite member. I felt it was very human and vulnerable for her to have those doubts beforehand and be inspired by the possibility of making it. I know people in my actual life also get demoralised by falling behind like Manon admits she did in the documentary and know how that can come across as frustrating irl to others but how debilitating that can be for the person in question.
My takeaway from this situation is not about race or preferential treatment, but how the girls were sold a lie about hard work and burnout yielding results in a superficial industry. I think it's great that a girl like Manon was thrown in as a wrench to the system because ultimately, this was a very eye-opening experience for both the girls and viewers alike.
omg thank u they completely ignore how manon was rewarded for breaking rules and attacked and defended instead of actually building a bridge when she claimed to want to do so. INSANE
Manon DID build that bridge with the girls though. Why are people ignoring the fact that Manon got her shit together and worked hard to get to the level & meet the girls where they were????
If they wanted Adéla in the lineup, the mentors/producers or whoever decided the missions should've tried harder. Adéla is obviously really talented but she didnt stand out to me at all during dream academy. Overall i always thought the missions were not good at showcasing the girl's talent. So obviously people were gonna voted based on ethnicity and visuals.
was agreeing with a lot of your points until this part "she said in her confessional that she wanted to take accountability but none of that was shown in the conversation" not sure if you blacked out during the part where she literally said the following: "I will hold myself accountable and I'm sorry for missing classes" DURING the conversation (38:38 ep 7 ) "'her intentions for this conversation looked shallow and inauthentic" not sure how you're justifying this but I think her pulling the girls to talk was so mature and brave and I'm not sure if you've ever had to put yourself in front of 14 girls who you know resent you and apologise but that sounds intimidating af so give her some damn credit.
It's sad, but i can't see the group being any different, they complement each other so well and it seems that Manon really changed for the better, her vocals are pretty solid and the girl get along very well. So no need to hate Adéla or Manon, I love them both
was confused about the title as a total outsider, i had no idea that adela was disliked by the fandom. like i said im not really a kpop fan but I find the level of manufacturedness, the extreme work environment, and the competetive stan culture fascinating, so i decided to watch the show. i'd seen ads on tiktok for katseye so i knew which girls won, but as the show went on i became more and more surprised that manon even made it. i 100% assumed that fans would have given HER the role of villain but adela? that's genuinely confusing to me. even though i knew she wasn't going to get in, i was shocked she was kicked so early considering her obvious talent and leadership skills. i can't say much for the issue of her being white as im also a white girl, but im just here to say damn. some of you kpop stans are ruthless lol. ps I lived in a residential treatment facility for women ages 18 to 25 for 15 months. yes it's hard to live with girls. yes it's hard to not ever see your family. yes it's hard to be under supervision and have curfews and limited phone access. too bad, that's your life in the program you chose to be in for your own benefit. i don't dislike manon, but she needed to suck it up and I'm glad she eventually did.
One aspect of this convo that kind of annoys me is this unsupported assumption that ALL the girls felt the way Adela did. I made a list of the girls who, throughout all of Dream Academy and Pop Star Academy (on the show and on socials), have never said anything remotely negative about Manon or have even said positive things about her: Daniela, Yoonchae, Nayoung, Celeste, Samara, Emily, Iliya, Hinari, Ua, Mei, Lexie, Karlee, and Marquise. This is over half the girls. In the psychologist scene, most of the girls just look uninterested or even vaguely uncomfortable with the discussion. We have no reason to believe this resentment towards Manon was unanimous.
You're right, but remember in episode six only one out of the eighteen chose her to be in their ideal line up. Respectfully, there must have been a reason, at least that's how I see it.
@@everglowup That same episode showed Brooklyn and Ua getting zero votes and Lexie and Yoonchae only getting two votes, but I haven't seen theories about resentment toward them. Nayoung only got 3. There are probably many factors that went into that, but I suspect the girls largely voted based on a mix of impersonal assessments of skillset, whom they were closer to, and whom they perceived as having a strong shot at actually making it. I think it's also no coincidence that the girls who were less fluent in English appear to be lower overall. Nothing in particular points toward the girls feeling the same as Adela.
@@everglowupbringing up episode six, it’s interesting how often people SWEAR Emily should have made the group, when her being 3rd to last in those rankings of the votes had indicated there’s a reason why she didn’t. Clearly for different reasons than Manon, but I just wanted to add that because it does also add perspective on the overall conversation in terms of how the girls may have felt at that time, as people often claimed Emily should have made the last split rather than Manon but clearly she wasn’t capable to some extent where Manon didn’t lack. It’s an interesting comparison for sure considering again, there are different reasons for why the girls didn’t vote for them to be in their “idea” of the final lineup.
@@bloojay7going back over the social media during Dream Academy it seemed like there was a bit of a clique between Sophia, Lara, Megan, Adela and Emily as they all interacted a lot. Whereas Daniella and Nayoung were closer to Manon. It wasn’t until mission three that the girls started to really take on board that anyone could make it and all started to do videos together more generally.
every contestant that was Eliminated has the talent, drive and passion to do they want to do, be a k-pop idol. The girls loved one another from beginning to end but you can feel the tension when people who joined late, no prior training and missed a lot of practise and lessons get into a group which they gave their all for is definitely up setting. the idea that fans got of "Mannon was being bullied" is absolute nonsense! The girls frustrated that their efforts were in vain and Mannon was upset that the girls were taking it out on her due to the voting, which is actually clear if you didn't skip majority of the episodes. The girls loved Adéla, her talent in vocals, dance and stage presence shown through her evals and pink venom yet, she was eliminated due to where she was from and because of her looks. It's not that I don't like the final line up (cuz it's be honest, debut and touch are absolute bops) but what the producers did to defame her after elimination is crazy and un acceptable to most peoples standards. Thank you for reading my rant :)
If you think this documentary was bad wait till you see kpop idols on apple tv, it was a complete 180, they didn’t mention fatou was suicidal and tried to paint Leia as a victim who just had a minor slip up.
I think another thing thats hard for fans is seeing this documentary and what all the members would say about there future members is hard to see. Simply because when we see idol groups we expect it to a close friendship or sisterhood. While Katseye right now is being seen in a mixeye. Theres a sisterhood but there wasn’t always a sisterhood. At some point they talked about each other, disliked each other. And it could be worrisome if they still feel that same way about her behind the scenes. I think they talked about it more behind the scenes or when this issue was blowing up i hope they talked about it to tighten there friendship. I can see this group ending up like little mix but I hope they become successful and have a long friendship instead.
@@mariahbreannalane6985 the survival portion that people voted on was uploaded on Hybes RUclips channel, the documentary is on Netflix that shows all this behind the scenes and drama stuff
Also people blaming manon for ‘special treatment’ that’s what you blame the company for ! Thats not her fault and everyone getting mad was VALID but my thing is this if we gonna call it out. Call it out completely hold the adults accountable now that wouldve made me GAGG.
Right!! If anyone was in that position, they probably would react the same way as Manon. None of the contestants are the bad guys, it's the production. I personally think there should be no hate towards any of them.
this just tells me that this is a biased video and yall didn’t here a single thing the hybe x geffen staff said about their reasons of letting adela go. there were even less talented people who passed adela but yall only wanna attack manon. yall are blaming manon over a desicion that was decided by judges and audiences if yall wanted adela there yall should’ve voted for her
But since when has the music industry been solely about talent? Especially the pop industry. Let’s be honest if the most talented girls all made it into the group it wouldn’t matter cuz some of them simply didn’t have the look/aura of a star and the group wouldn’t survive and the higher ups definitely knew that. That’s why the most talented in the industry become background dancers and singers. Some people just don’t have to work as hard as others in life and that’s that, pretty sure Manon knew she had her spot secured from the beginning. I’ve seen Adela’s solo stuff and tbh nothing new or exciting about her and the producers and audience saw that 🤷🏽♀️
Her solo work is being supported out of pity and this is coming from someone who is also supporting her. Lyrics are nonsensical, instrumental is dated, and she didn’t seem to know how to have presence outside of trying to be “sexy” I see why she wasn’t chosen. Execs truly know what’s best
Exactly. Even Bang PD came in the first few episodes and stated that star power is important. People aren't always going to be chosen based on talent alone. Hard as it is to accept that Manon is an important factor as to whether the group sells or not. Most stans come from her.
I mean, but you should also point out the fact that they all worked it out since the conversation they had. People grow and learn, she holds accountability and that's important too. And you're missing few points: Adela was eliminated because of the public, not producers and that is a sad true that multiple talented people face in the industry, if you don't have appeal to the public, you'll hardly make it. Manon was kept there because the producers noticed the public loved her, if she was at the bottom of public votes, trust me, she would have been eliminated since first mission. And last but definitely not least, although the frustration was very valid, it wasn't cool for them talking behind Manon's back when Manon clearly never said anything bad about none of them and even said she loved them, and also it's not Manon's fault that she was a fan favorite (wich is btw the reason why she stepped it up and got serious because at first she thought she wouldn't make it as she felt the other girls were extremely good). Either way, the final lineup was the one making more synergy and the girls seem to be very close and working very good together, hopefully they have major success in the near future. ☺
you’re attempting to have a thought out discussion about this but completely painting manon as someone who had no regard for the team or awareness of her actions. manon made it clear she misunderstood the severity of the program. she also had a right to defend herself when 20 girls were coming at her. no matter what she did, that wasn’t the right way to approach issues they felt like were occurring. you’re also making it seem like manon isn’t talented and is in the group just because she’s a pretty face. this also makes a space for anti-blackness to occur and for people like that to facilitate their hate for manon. this wasn’t a nuanced conversation at all.
Right! I feel like she skipped over the girls just straight being jealous even before Manon arrived. Also her not living with the girls is justified, she was most likely excluded from the jump making her living life difficult, causing Manon not wanting to live with the other girls. I feel like this video glanced over the hate/racism Manon has been getting, while painting the other girls as only saints and angels.
as someone from a slavic country, the lack of representation is basically a matter for all of us (besides maybe russia?), but i do think even though adela made valid points, she was exaggerating a bit at times. while twisting her words and claiming she complains about lack of white representation also bothers me, i think national and racial representation aren’t equally important. while people from my country get excited at any mention of us anywhere in the industry, because we tend to be forgotten, i would never compare it to the lack of racial/ethnic representation, especially in an industry that puts huge beauty standards on women. i think that’s also why some people online jumped to those conclusions. coming down to work ethic it does amaze me how no one wants to put even a little responsibility on manon considering even their teacher ended up thinking she wouldn’t add her to the group based on it. i think manon had way less determination as a trainee, because she never auditioned herself and didn’t seem like someone who necessarily wanted to be an artist. i think the production putting her in the center of attention at times gave her reassurance she would get in. at the end i think she realized how serious it was and improved which i’m glad about, because even though i’m not particularly intrigued by her voice or dance skills, i do think a person like her with an “aura” is a good thing for the group. kinda like victoria beckham in spice girls, till this day people joke about her not being able to sing but i do think she was an iconic member. however it’s 100% true pretty privilege plays a huge part in how fans portray her and her actions.
the lack of representation is matter for all of us from slavic countries. It's hard to be represented in pop culture/global music even for Russian in other way than Russian mafia or prostitutes. I don't think she was exaggerating a bit since she didn't talk about race at all but nationality.
@@Nicole-ep1vt i literally included the first statement in my comment. i meant exaggerating in general, cause it was showing she did not like manon and even though everyone was rightfully frustrated with her i feel like adela took it personally. and yeah having national representation feels good, but it is not as necessary as racial or ethnic representation and considering there were indian girls in the program not talking about it as much as adela made it seem a bit exaggerated at least to me, especially with her commenting on little girls from her country getting to know they have a chance when they literally see thousands of girls like them in the industry cause it’s not like nationality is some barrier for making it.
@@loonaism6177 While I don't know which Slavic country you're from, it's important to recognize that just because people may look similar doesn't mean they share the same experiences or culture. Eastern Europeans/Slavic people, have distinct cultural backgrounds and lead lives that are quite different from those in Western countries. Especially compared to American lives. While there are certainly commonalities and things we can bond over... our upbringing, values, mentality, and societal expectations differ significantly. Nationality can indeed be a barrier, and to overlook this is to dismiss the challenges faced by people who are trying to make it in global music industry. If you don't believe this to be true, it's likely you've never truly experienced what it's like to make your way as a Slavic person in these environments.
@@moncica1998 idk what culture has to do with it, i have never heard someone having it hard making it just because they’re slavic lol, what difference in making it is between us and someone from idk germany for example?
@@loonaism6177 Okay, let me ask you a question first before I will answer. We're talking about the global music industry here. You said you've never heard of someone having a hard time making it just because they're Slavic. So, who has made it in the global music industry as Slavic? Because I can't, for the life of me, think of anyone remotely relevant who’s actually from a Slavic country.
THANK YOU for presenting all this in such an informed and non biased way because so many people online are still talking from sides and not helping the group or Adela. I hit subscribe so fast.
It kinda felt like you was putting a bad light on manon I just felt like everyone is valid and the people that are older got exactly what they wanted when they filmed this
I find it a bit weird how other contestants harped on Manon for allegedly only making it into katseye because she's pretty? Manon sings and dances very well. Furthermore, _all_ of the contestants are conventionally pretty and have probably benefitted quite a lot from that privilege. They probably wouldn't like being told they only made it into the show (and group) because of their looks. Manon has this angelic sense of beauty, but doesn't behave like an angel, and that makes her interesting to the viewers.
She wasn’t a racist just jealous, Adela just didn’t have super star quality, she is extremely talented but she is wasn’t memorable (for me) . And I still don’t understand why Manon needed to take accountability for something she had no control and over( fan voting and perceptions) why shud she have to show feel sorry because people like her regardless of her talent makes no sense nd her work ethic maybe questionable but it’s still no reason to be mad group nd down talk someone nd make them feel shut out wen they are actually trying (damn a bitch can’t be sick and chill with my ppls) she showed in each challenge they she was learning. Adela and Emily were just not gonna translate well in camera Thts why no one really voted for them, Lara and Sophie (smh) but i get it they were all friends cute
EVERYONE, ADÉLA HAS A SOLO! You don’t have to stream it but I would 100% recommend at least checking it out in support of her. I hope that she has a successful music career as the crap she went through on this show genuinely makes my blood boil at times… 🙄 (Anyways ofc loved the video, you stated all of the points that needed to be stated, I can’t say much else lol!)
I love Adela... She's one my favorite in this program. Her attitude is one of the best. She's a future lead of girl group. I pray she's will successful in fiture...
I know some people are mad about Manon having a spot, buuuuuuut she just can’t be denied. Not just because of her face but you can get a good sense that her energy is dazzling as well. When you have a pretty face and a pretty heart, there’s no denying you like ever. You will always stand out
@@rosietales maybeee or because she was reached out to, she wasn’t like the other girls who were trying really hard. I know a lot of people don’t focus on spirituality but who says you have to work super hard to achieve anything? If you want, you can just be in the right place at the right time and just receive it.
@@Soulfulgoddess There is still preferential treatment, especially considering she was allowed to do what the other girls couldn't. You still have to put some work for things to go your way even if you're in the right place and time. Even if she wouldn't put her best on practices, if she showed up, she would've created a good relationship with them prior to debuting.
I think it’s just a matter of cultural differences, Manon didn’t understand the culture in dance yet while the others did. And although I personally think Adela was low-key bitter, I think she would’ve said the same things about Manon if she was a pretty white or Asian girl etc. I don’t think she’s the racist white girl people are trying to paint her as but I do think that what she said was wrong by some degree.
@@Justsomegir literally nothing just like most contestants did. Agreed, I think her comments gave away her bitterness, any ill feelings should not be directed towards Manon, instead the show who made it possible. Hate the game don't hate the player. karlee was the one who asked yoonchae what she would prefer to be called. adela was the one who said YC was “easier.” that’s why ppl weren’t harassing karlee, because karlee was the only one who actually cared about what yoonchae wanted to be called. adela didn’t really gaf
If she didn't gaf why did she highlight the fact that Yoonchae didn't like hugging as to reassure her and also encourage her abt her revision with "you're gonna kill it".
@@lotuschilcl i’m talking about adela not calling her by her real name. she didn’t care what yoonchae preferred to be called. she didn’t care enough to even try to pronounce it properly the first time. what kind of person plans to debut under a korean company but doesn’t even attempt to pronounce an asian name, and when first meeting her too? like that just feels so disrespectful to me
@@annieproulx6032 Yeah, but see your cherry-picking her actions, cause in that same span of 5-10 min she did stuff to show her support and respect for her. Also, take into consideration that she's from a country where Korean IS NOT SPOKEN USUALLY, she's from Slovakia, she met yoonchae for the first time that day and also she did call her by her real name, even payed attention when she was asked if she was comfortable with it, the nickname was to encourage a relaxed and stress relief environment between the new girls, and if her pronunciation wasn't great maybe that's why she called her by YC to not make it seem as if she struggled with the actual name cause she clearly did, practice or no practice, not out of disrespect, out of actual respect for her and maybe a little embarrassment for herself, it isn't her native tongue, try speaking Slovakian yourself and saying it perfectly. And finally, the contract isn't with an all Korean company. It's a GLOBAL GIRL GROUP with the TRAINING of a Korean company, so no, she wasn't required to speak Korean and still she was one of the main girls who tried to help out the Asian girls even if the language barrier made it difficult. You hit some of the points but you missed Manon whole viewpoint on a lot of things now was she wrong is some instances yes she was but we on the outside looking it so we will never know what truly happened. It’s messed up. I wish it didn’t play out this way. What would’ve worked was that the producers let it be known how they would run the show and not subvert everyone expectations suddenly
This whole video is built on wrong information considering that people who dislike Adela also dislike Naisha just as much, for the same reason. Many of them had those opinions before the documentary due to their social media posts. Her skin color has nothing to do with it. Dream Academy was one of the fairest shows. Adela was eliminated because she didn't capture people's attention in PV. I followed the show and agree with that sentiment. Something about her performance was off-putting. Also, yall would make more sense if you just said you think visual picks should be eliminated from kpop, which probably wont be happening anytime soon.
I also think that foreigners dont quite understand what they are getting themselves into unless they are more east asian background but even so foreigners defo seem to struggle to get to grips with the general kpop system
(i have not finshd the video) People refuse to acknowledge this show is filmed over a year. Assuming adela is just a hater because the show shows her talking about manon doesnt mean she IS.
They framed her badly in one edit with that Naisha girl. I still support her but we know how immature kpop stans can be and hated on her for way too long
@@markigirl2757 honestly i still would like to know what were they asking them and how long they filmed on that beach with Adela and Naisha. Tbh this is really a serious issue and i really hope this video blows up so more people know what actually happened. Adela was one of my personal favs and im really sad i didnt know about the votings and the show when it was ongoing. good video but kinda outdated now...feel like most fans have already moved on, and sophia/lara/manon clearly have these videos are the only thing still perpetuating the drama
This video still points to very important topics that people have not learnt yet though. It kinda feels like people have “forgiven” Lara, Sophia and Megan for speaking out about Manon without critically looking at themselves and consider that maybe calling someone racist and a mean girl because of genuine concerns about their place on a survival show is, well, problematic. Like what do they need to be forgiven for???? Not forgetting to mention that Adéla is still getting ripped to shreds on TikTok and Twitter which isn’t fair at all.
I have my thoughts on the documentary but I don’t have an issue with Adela and the girls for being upset I just think how they handled it was very immature which is my only issue. Everyone has the right to feel a certain way because it’s a perspective game Manon had to deal with a cultural difference and a confidence issue. Manon is from Switzerland where grind mindset isn’t enforced they believe if you are sick or mentally not prepared to do a certain task to sit out or take a break which is extremely healthy it avoids burnout and injury which seemed to be a constant thing that happened to these girls added on to the fact Manon had a solid inferiority complex due to her lack of experience and joining the group late. But from the rest of the girls perspective it felt like the girl didn’t care that much and just wasn’t trying which I get no one likes doing a group project and then feeling like one of the people isn’t doing shit (one of my biggest pet peeves). But I think the situation wasn’t handled well by the girls they isolated her made her feel uncomfortable giving her mean looks talking behind her back I’m sorry but that’s immature that’s what middle schoolers do to harass someone they don’t like lol 😭😭😭😭. Which a simple group meeting to see everyone’s perspective which Manon called for could and did solve everyone’s problems (Manon is so much more mature then me because I would be ready to fight 😭😭😭) but I don’t know they seem to have worked things out I’ve been following the project since the survival voting show but during the later half of the show manon and Sophia where taking pictures together and stuff Manon and Daniela where always decently close but unless the girls are incredible fucking actors one of the lives they did before the finale Sophia Lara Daniela Megan Marquise and Manon they seemed like the best of friends 😭. And the group itself seems to be very close extremely gen z though 😭😭😭 but my bias is Manon and my bias wrecker is Megan and Daniela (omg Manon, Megan, and Daniela’s stage presence is so good them and the rest of the girls were literally glowing in there Korean promotions). But I agree minus the fucked up elimination episode which I think we can all agree was all types of insane (Stan Lexie she is the real one) but I really loved it me and my friends always talked about how there is no way all these girls are best friends on these kpop survival show there has to be some beef and hybe gave it to us and I love me a dramatic reality tv show. But even though yes the docu series have caused a lot of back lash I still think it’s still working out in the long run the girls have been non talk discussion there viewerships are a lot higher all the girls (all the contestants) have gained more followers and touch and sis is charting so maybe this was the play.
Switzerland not having a grind mindset? lol, as someone's who's cousin's Swiss that's far from the opposite. In fact compared to my Australian self it's far worse there. Yet Ezrela didn't lack work ethic. Beside Adéla is Slovak but she seemed to get the work ethic memo. I do agree the way they handled their problems was irresponsible, but considering most of them were underaged it's understandable. Manon however was one of the oldest candidates and was the trigger that made them feel that way. I commend Manon's maturity to sit down and talk about their problems together, however I feel that Manon started this whole mess in the first place and showcased her own irresponsible nature that made them lose trust in her, thus causing them not to care. Remember in the docu where Sophia explicitly mentioned that they vocalised their feelings to Manon but she didn't change? So from what it sounds like, they tried but when she didn't take accountability, they gave up. And then resorted to immaturity. At the very end of the day, it's been a long time since they recorded that docu, and I'm sure the girls have moved on. I think the fans should move on as well, but I do think we need to acknowledge this situation was nuanced and the solo stans (especially Manon ones) have jumped the gun and just honestly soured the whole experience of being a Katseye fan considering their inability to see their favourite idol being not perfect. Humans aren't perfect and neither are the Katseye members.
@@lbell9695 your family might just be a minority lol cause generally that is not true private time and work life balance is highly respected and emphasized in Switzerland work ethic and on the average Switzerland work 222 hour less per year compare to Americans and there is even a bigger hour gap when Asian hours are involved. But even with that Manon viewed the program as school while the other girls didn’t once she the reality show started she took it seriously minus her getting Covid which seemed to be part that really made her upset Manon because during the actual survival tv show her attendance didn’t seem to be the issue minus the Covid part in the beginning which manon did bring up a valid point is that other girls took days off and wasn’t giving the exact same scrutiny. Which Sophia going off the buttons challenge wanted everyone and manon to just suffer and work through it (which I commend her but that’s not the play 😭) and when it comes to ages Sophia is the same age as Manon Adela is only one year younger then Manon I’m sorry but they are grown women I’ve seen highschoolers handle situations a lot better lol 😭😭 also the immaturity of the girls didn’t even just hurt manon it hurt girls like Illiya too so like it seemed to be a constant throughout the show but it’s an arc and they all grew up and became stronger from it and it respect the girl being so vulnerable and also seeming to not give a fuck about the media
@@jadonrowe273 Great for Switzerland for having a better work-life balance compared to Americans but I'm not American and my point of comparison is between Australia and Switzerland. And whilst I agree Switzerland has good work-life balance, so does Australia and from my understanding, the grind mindset is much more present there. And Ezrela showcased good work ethic so culture is just an excuse at this point. The problem is her not missing due to COVID. It's her missing just because "she doesn't feel like it." She didn't take it seriously and I understand initially because she's not familiar with the whole k-pop system. But like I mentioned, Sophia explicitly mentioned to Manon that they tried communicating to her but Manon didn't improve since despite her by then understanding the expectations. That to me indicates Manon clearly wasn't motivated enough. And that is frustrating especially in a team project where one member's failure to attend affects the whole team. Remember that one team that had to learn TWO choreos? One with Manon and one without if Manon doesn't turn up? As someone who did dance, that's nuts to me. It's understandable they have a grudge. However, like I mentioned I agree with you the girls behaved immaturely. I 100% agree with you, respect to the girls for moving on and being vulnerable and letting the whole world see their messy sides. It makes me appreciate them more. However I don't like how fans are not giving Manon accountability for her actions whilst adding extra heat to Lara and Sophia.

i agree with most of what u said but i don't think Adela is getting hate cos she is white, because Naisha and Lara had just as vile hate trains. I especially feel bad for Lara cos she didnt even really say anything "shady" like Megan and Sophia but shes just getting hate for being the most talented member ie. a "threat"
I don't know i feel the more videos you make like this, when actual racism does happen to a black girl y'all will be able to use examples like this and play devils advocate. I just... I don't like how hybe did this. Cause why did the show give Manon special treatment? That isn't her fault. It just feel like idk i just feel like this is being done on purpose so that way white girls can have more space in the pop sphere and deny when racism actually does happen and it's not blatant but subtle even though they always have.

@@sydney6818 exactly 😂😂😂. Her internalized 👀ism is showing. She always does this and is always the first to defend the other side during discussions like this.
This video is perfect. I agree with you. Adéla was screwed in favor of someone who didn't want to do the work,. So because of that, Manon fans needed to find a scapegoat & decided Adéla would be it since she spoke up about Manon's actions (even though she wasn't the only one who did). Hybe also knew what they were doing by releasing this documentary after the group was made & had already debuted. Oh well, I never planned to stan this group anyway, but I do love Lara. Good luck to them.
Interestingly, I thought Manon's edit wasn't the best for her image either. It's surprising that her fans didn't see it that way. The way she was discovered was a big part of this. She wasn't the best singer or dancer but it didn't really matter, she has 'star power'. And throughout the T&D process, I never felt like she was afraid she'd be sent home, almost like because they asked her to join them, they needed her more than she needed them (HYBE that is). Even the fact that she didn't live in the house with the girls painted her as the stereotypical pretty girl who doesn't play nice with other girls rather than show her as someone who was homesick or socially-challenged. It never felt like she put in the work to be friends or relate to the girls, let alone the same amount of effort in training. I know she mentions feeling intimidated by the girls' talent, but I wonder if there was also intimidation in the looks department. I know everyone says she's the prettiest, but just like on shows like Love Island, when you put a lot of pretty people in one room, they start to realise that other people are hot as well - they may not be at the top of the leaderboard like they thought .So when she apologises to the girls, it kinda doesn't seem sincere - to me, it seems as though she was starting to care about girl group because the public loved her, it cements her as the 'better' than them. And after weeks of being told she's at the bottom, she was finally at the top, again. I don't think anyone on that show was a villain (those who do are just seeking drama) and I hope the girls get along and they achieve the success they deserve.
Honestly I think this was a bad situation for everyone. Everyone who didn’t agree with Manon was right. However, I don’t think Manon was fully aware of what the program really was until later. Everyone else came in with more understanding, and background knowledge of how serious kpop training & the program were. We have to remember, she was just thrown into the program. Through the show we see her go through that learning curve until the severity finally hit. I am not making excuses for her but I think seeing the whole picture of the situation, all of the girls side, matters to avoid villainizing.
this whole manon situation, the way the company treated her so obviously favourably and the way all the fans jumped to defend her and still turn a blind eye to genuine criticism about her really shows just how far pretty privilege alone can get you....
agree, I think the series was more so about using the poc members for drama because in kpop they would be considered "exotic" and good for fake drama. I couldnt watch it but I dont think I missed out on much at all. then villainising certain white members too ugh just so messy and toxic af that I couldnt bring myself to care much for the show bc I had feeling there would be a media slaughter for this group. seen it before and often its groups that always have foreign members in so it wasnt anything terribly new and I liked that manon put her health before work
I did not watch doku yet, but I watched the show in real time. A lot of people do not take into account one thing. The show started with 20 contestants and only two of them were black( Samara and Manon). But Samara got herself in a big controversy ( as I know that is not covered by doku), so the show was left with only one option(Manon).Debuting int. group in US without a black member is not an option in current state. So she never took neither Adelas nor any other non-black girl's spot. This spot was allocated for her or Samara from the beginning.
I feel like a million things happened I need to mention:

@@aiaaeaoi Manon and Laura were the only ones scouted, and they are the in the group. Use your brain to fill in the blanks.
The docu literally showed us that Manon is in the group because of the fan votes. In the finale, none of the judges chose her as their pick. Lara was scouted and is both the judges and the voters pick. There's a difference here. Not saying Manon doesn't deserve her place, but her fans got her in the group.
(the english word 'slave' literally comes from the slavic people!)
the whole situation just makes me hang my head in shame at how my fellow americans are behaving. does american culture have a lot of influence, yes; but not every country is like america, and that's what makes this world so beautiful.
I dont think thats true because people dont like Naisha for the same reason
@@sasasavage5047 No, people dislike Naisha because of the shady comments she made immediately after DA.
As a Polish person I also felt kind of represented by Adéla
I think people here, America, know little next to nothing about that part of the world and the stablishment is trying to erase so hards "white" and european culture that hurts, specially because it is part of the roots of America.
I do see the producers are trying to paint Adela as a "sore loser", but they were quite fair because they also showed how Adela was helping and loved by all the other trainees too. I feel like the issue is that most k-pop stans are not used to seeing idols as humans with mixed range of emotions so it translated badly as if Adela is bitter.
Honestly, she has full right to feel "sore" about all of this imo. But I 100% agree with you
Yes, I think the main issue is that what happened between all of the trainees was a little bit complex. There was no straightforward villain.

I was happily enjoying the show in the beginning.

Not all identify with race, as it comes from race theory which is an inherently bigoted way of thinking by some guy.
People complain about these survival shows all the time and just turn around and watch the next new one lol. I agree with this video.
Something I’ve noticed A LOT, is that peoples who says the (uncomfortable) truth and addresses the “elephant in the room”, is that they’re always painted as the Villains 🙂
Yeah and it's so weird and realistically if you where in any of their positions you would feel the same
@@lolano3392 EXACTLY.

Adela, they will never make me hate you
Thank you, seeing hate towards adela from a teaser video on the internet was so uncalled for, and even after the show came out, it was out of pocket to bash her when she was the sweetest in the show
EDIT: I just saw she posted her new music video!!!
I watched and voted from the beginning, all we had was the videos hybe released of the mission only. So ofc The girls that sang seemed more talented. Its a shame she never got the chance to truly shine
Adela in the first mission stood out too much. Her clothes made her look bigger than she was and she was also dancing next to the two smallest Asian contestants… sometimes I wonder if the company did that to her on purpose
THANK YOUUU people don’t understand that the person that spent the most time with the girls (Missy) said herself that she wouldn’t debu Manon due to her lack of proffesionalism / work ethic and even the fact that that she had to moove out of the house for rule breaking on multiple occasions just ads insult to injury
mind u by the end missy said she just need to put in more effort for her to debut… thing change manon was always gonna be in the group unlike Adela

💯
I hope the documentary make less people want to enter the industry because it is brutal and unfair.
omg thank u they completely ignore how manon was rewarded for breaking rules and attacked and defended instead of actually building a bridge when she claimed to want to do so. INSANE
Manon DID build that bridge with the girls though. Why are people ignoring the fact that Manon got her shit together and worked hard to get to the level & meet the girls where they were????
Manon literally did go out of her way to build a bridge
If they wanted Adéla in the lineup, the mentors/producers or whoever decided the missions should've tried harder. Adéla is obviously really talented but she didnt stand out to me at all during dream academy. Overall i always thought the missions were not good at showcasing the girl's talent. So obviously people were gonna voted based on ethnicity and visuals.
was agreeing with a lot of your points until this part "she said in her confessional that she wanted to take accountability but none of that was shown in the conversation" not sure if you blacked out during the part where she literally said the following: "I will hold myself accountable and I'm sorry for missing classes" DURING the conversation (38:38 ep 7 )
"'her intentions for this conversation looked shallow and inauthentic" not sure how you're justifying this but I think her pulling the girls to talk was so mature and brave and I'm not sure if you've ever had to put yourself in front of 14 girls who you know resent you and apologise but that sounds intimidating af so give her some damn credit.
It's sad, but i can't see the group being any different, they complement each other so well and it seems that Manon really changed for the better, her vocals are pretty solid and the girl get along very well. So no need to hate Adéla or Manon, I love them both
Watching the show it's clear they built the group around Manon instead of making her prove her talent and that the deserved to be there.
I feel like people need to understand that not all the time with conflict there is a "villain".
was confused about the title as a total outsider, i had no idea that adela was disliked by the fandom. like i said im not really a kpop fan but I find the level of manufacturedness, the extreme work environment, and the competetive stan culture fascinating, so i decided to watch the show. i'd seen ads on tiktok for katseye so i knew which girls won, but as the show went on i became more and more surprised that manon even made it. i 100% assumed that fans would have given HER the role of villain but adela? that's genuinely confusing to me. even though i knew she wasn't going to get in, i was shocked she was kicked so early considering her obvious talent and leadership skills. i can't say much for the issue of her being white as im also a white girl, but im just here to say damn. some of you kpop stans are ruthless lol.
ps I lived in a residential treatment facility for women ages 18 to 25 for 15 months. yes it's hard to live with girls. yes it's hard to not ever see your family. yes it's hard to be under supervision and have curfews and limited phone access. too bad, that's your life in the program you chose to be in for your own benefit. i don't dislike manon, but she needed to suck it up and I'm glad she eventually did.
Someone with a sensible take at last.
If you think this documentary was bad wait till you see kpop idols on apple tv, it was a complete 180, they didn’t mention fatou was suicidal and tried to paint Leia as a victim who just had a minor slip up.
what r u talking about rn
manon and leia ARENT the same but okay
Yeah I actually could not see Adela as mean at all when watching the docu so it was shocking to look at everything else online
Although I knew there was a lesson and I hope people have learnt from the docu but with my hopes so low the best we can get is carrying on
I think another thing thats hard for fans is seeing this documentary and what all the members would say about there future members is hard to see.

@@anastasiap1856 clearly you didn’t watch the documentary cause they literally said they viewed adela as a soloist
Lyrics are nonsensical, instrumental is dated, and she didn’t seem to know how to have presence outside of trying to be “sexy”
I see why she wasn’t chosen.

See this is what adela was talking about in the beginning - the lack of Slavic representation in the world. We have our own ways the same as Koreans, Latinos etc have their. The sad truth is that almost no one knows because we are not see in the world.
You hit some of the points but you missed Manon whole viewpoint on a lot of things now was she wrong is some instances yes she was but we on the outside looking it so we will never know what truly happened. But when you said that she didn’t have a leg to stand on when she got defensive when we have several people saying things to her that’s a natural human response she had the right to defend herself. At the end of the day everyone was young I didn’t watch the show but at the end of the day they were all late teens going into adulthood things like this was bound to happen in my eyes.
Also, yall would make more sense if you just said you think visual picks should be eliminated from kpop, which probably wont be happening anytime soon.
adela was so talented
She still is, definitely check out her new music
I also think that foreigners dont quite understand what they are getting themselves into unless they are more east asian background but even so foreigners defo seem to struggle to get to grips with the general kpop system
you always make the video very pleasing. i love this kind of theme editing like this
(i have not finshd the video) People refuse to acknowledge this show is filmed over a year.
All we got from it was the 10 sec video of Adela talking which made her look bad once again might have been cut out of context since we can't see anything else from that interview with them.
Wow I loved all the video graphics, you did an amazing job!
Tbh this is really a serious issue and i really hope this video blows up so more people know what actually happened. Adela was one of my personal favs and im really sad i didnt know about the votings and the show when it was ongoing. A lot of fans only highlight and address one specific part of a situation without explaining the whole situation. This documentary made me realise a lot of things within this industry and i hope more people get to know about it
so true! i love manon but she is just a classic pretty privilege case

i watched the whole show before going online to see the discussion and was so surprised to find out that adela was villainised when really, she was just speaking hard facts and wasnt even being mean or nasty about it. it shocks me how ppl so quickly take things out of context just to find a reason to jump on someone
Oh you ate with the thumbnail and mean girls theme 😂
good video but kinda outdated now...feel like most fans have already moved on, and sophia/lara/manon clearly have
these videos are the only thing still perpetuating the drama
I love this healthy discussion here, I wish the vid embodied more of this energy😊.
Talking about she isn’t represented when there isn’t a single girl on that show who doesn’t pass the paper bag test. The music industry is unfair get over it.
crazy how you say manon stans are making everything about race and then proceed to say people are hating on adela cause she's white even though people dogged on her the most cause she had the most to say about manon after being eliminated. and saying she was singled out when sophia, lara, and naisha got dragged too??
also, yes it was weird that adela talked shit about manon RIGHT AFTER talking about how there's no representation for slovakia and central europeans. manon is also half swiss from central europe. does her making it not give girls from there hope because she's not a white blonde girl? africans and black people from all over are feeling represented by her cause she's half Ghanaian but ig she's not white enough to rep europeans despite living there her whole life.
@@Callisto_52Hz girl we are not talking about geography but culturally. Adela is eastern european and manon is western european and these two titles are VERY different.
@@moncica1998 ok and? the whole show had 2 half black girls repping the whole black race so its crazy hearing adela talk about the lack of representation and saying people from other countries finally get to feel how she feels being "underrepresented" and then attacking manon who is the only african on the show. do you think europe is the only continent with regional culture differences and different countries or something?
@@Callisto_52Hz You really missed the Point
I really like Katseye
I want to see their music get better and better. Only time will tell
i agree with most of what u said but i don't think Adela is getting hate cos she is white, because Naisha and Lara had just as vile hate trains. I especially feel bad for Lara cos she didnt even really say anything "shady" like Megan and Sophia but shes just getting hate for being the most talented member ie. a "threat"
wtf is up with this thumbnail and title?
I don't know i feel the more videos you make like this, when actual racism does happen to a black girl y'all will be able to use examples like this and play devils advocate. I just... I don't like how hybe did this. Cause why did the show give Manon special treatment? That isn't her fault. It just feel like idk i just feel like this is being done on purpose so that way white girls can have more space in the pop sphere and deny when racism actually does happen and it's not blatant but subtle even though they always have.
I am pretty sure everyone would react towards manon the same way the other girls did and i am sure manon knows that too
The thing about idols and freedom of speech ...i remembered that during the whole Jungkook x Newjeans drama last weekend
I feel the same and thank you to put this feeling into an amazing video.

I am not making excuses for her but I think seeing the whole picture of the situation, all of the girls side, matters to avoid villainizing.
this whole manon situation, the way the company treated her so obviously favourably and the way all the fans jumped to defend her and still turn a blind eye to genuine criticism about her really shows just how far pretty privilege alone can get you....
the hate was so forced here??
agree, I think the series was more so about using the poc members for drama because in kpop they would be considered "exotic" and good for fake drama.
I see Manon getting more criticism that anyone else, so I'm not sure what corner of the internet you are on.
