Damn that's helpful. Getting more consistent - getting more scenes that turn out good... Holy god, I must sound dense for not realizing this sooner, but I'm so glad I finally have a metric for improving my writing. Bless him.
He has his entire college lecture class uploaded as a Playlist 13 1hr10mins+each videos on his channel. Very helpful. There's also mirrors of older recordings of his class and you can see the change through the years its pretty cool. He usually has least 1 guest lecturer too. About different things. All writing related of course. You should look for them!
Anyone else on a binge of all his old lectures?
Listen to some of his lectures weekly, try to target groups if videos that fit together on similar topics
Brandon has got to be one of the best writing teachers out there!

I´ve read many, MANY books in one sitting... Never three at once. I don´t really know, but Im having a hard time believing you.
The first Mistborn audibook is over 24 hours long. Second is over 28 hours long. Third is over 27 hours long. Even considering a person reads much faster than an audio narration, it's impossible to read those books "in the same day I bought them". Shame on you for lying just to feel special on the internet.
@@TheKrazyLobster narrators read with the average word count of 160 words per minute. Average person can read 240 words per minute. Those people who are used to reading on daily basis, like university students, can read up to 300 words a minute. It's doable.
And remember that they didn't say they read all the books on the same day.
MacBeth starts out with a battle, and does it in the best way. They come to the end of the great battle and show the aftermath.

Harry Potter and Bella Swan are husk protagonists, so we don't really feel sympathy for them, we feel we ARE them. It becomes easier to read the story as if it is happening to you when you never disagree with the main viewpoint character.

Worldbuilding demands a good outline, so you remember the rules the characters have to function within. After outlining what you should outline, it is much easier to free write characters.
She rode into the castle market on the back of Lightmodem, which caused the bells on her jester's cap to jingle, as they trotted along. A group of children pointed and laughed at her. She scoffed. The king, at this time, was forcing her to wear a ridiculous outfit until she paid off her debt to the crown, a tight blue one-piece with large buttons and a silly hat. She eyeballed the children malevolently, stopping their shrill laughter in its cobble-stone path, and then surveyed the market for a place to ply her trade with the hope nobody could discern her true identity. On this thought, she adjusted her masquerade mask.
Her hope was soon short-lived, however, when Eunoian, the dragon-tamer, spotted her, saying "Clara, is that you? Why are you dressed in such a fashion? Hey, look, everybody, it's Clara Windor! The subject of many poems!"
"Hey look, everybody, it's Eunoian, who has neither cock nor balls and fancies himself a poet!" She shot back, standing up on Lightmodem, flipping backward, with a 360-degree twirl, landing next to a young girl, whom she knew was a wealthy noble. The performance was met with such uproarious laughter, the crowd forgot what Eunoian said, and the young lady gave her a crown.
One of the vendors, however, was thinking intently, trying to remember the significance of that name, Clara Windor, Clara Windor, Clara Windor. He approached Eunoian, and tugged on his cloak, "Please, remind me, who is Clara Windor. It's on the tip of my tongue."
"I would say, that's the hero, who was part of the plot to swindle the treasury of the southern king, and supposedly, somehow lost the dragon king's horde on the journey back. Some say she has it hidden, but these circumstances suggest otherwise. The king has made her a jester. If you'll excuse me, I must write down my thoughts while they are fresh, and attend to the king's dragons." Eunoian said and then departed.
"Watch my wears while I am gone. I must return to the route to bring back more fruit."
"But we already have all of this fruit to sell, master."
"I expect all of this fruit to be sold by the time I return in one week's time," said the vendor.
Yeah the face reading. People write their conclusions onto the other people's faces.
I wonder what editors think about what Sanderson says about them
I personally think that Sarah J Maas did a great job writing the Throne of Glass series in third person omniscient. I was sucked so deeply into the story that I didn't even notice the viewpoint changes until I really studied the books to understand her writing style. :)
Maas is absolute garbage.

The reason they don't hire people who are successful in writing to teach creative writing classes is the same reason WE don't vote people into politics that have been successful in the real world, for example business. To many academics and faculty lounge dwellers with little to no private sector life experience.
We don't elect people who should be in politics is because people who should be in politics are the ones who don't want to be in politics.
YOU don't vote anyone into anything .. YOU have been given a small list of names to choose from and have no other choice outside that list of names which you have been given.

28:05 - Bella was a total WHINER. She was just always wallowing in some self-imposed angst. What kids seem to forget is that virtually all of their lives is IN FRONT OF THEM. They have NO IDEA what their lives are going to be like. The wallowing makes NO sense. Not the sort of lesson we want to present to our children.
I agree but the YA market is driven by what the youth relates to, not what they need. Thats just a fact. A lot of YA heroines are whiney like that.

Ok. SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX. The last time I heard you say this it was not discrimination in the workforce that came after - it was something else. You never actually heard that presentation, did you? Granted, it's a good hook. But you invented that. (PS - I think your lectures are great; really just teasing on this). The first time I heard you say it I loved it - but it lost some of its glamour the second go round.
He didn't invent it. It's an anecdotal example that's been used by speech and communications teachers and professors for decades to get students to use a hook to draw readers/listeners in. First time I heard it was in sixth grade during a English composition class over twenty-five years ago. The difference here is that he encourages people to avoid it rather than utilize it like every comp/speech class I ever took.

How is it not? You are making fun of his worldview, saying it is isn't certain. Well nothing is. There are no guaranties in life. But pursuing your goals and dreams is a beautiful thing. If you make it, you make money doing what you love. If not, you are creating something fulfilling for you. It is a great feeling, I know it. I get it when I draw. No money can buy that.
