      I got this shirt for a team Bags Tournament and thought it would be fun to wear for this video! It's a Johnsonville Sausage shirt .

    I’ve used Eryone now for a few months, it’s turned into my go to filament. Nice prints, enjoyed the video! 👍

    Hi Jim! Apologies in advance for the long comment.
    I'm glad you got a good roll. I had two bad ones in a row. And by "bad" I mean the diameter varied wildly and there were some weird blobs in it that exceeded 2mm in diameter. BUT -- I've said it before and I'll say it now: The **material** -- the PLA -- looked AMAZING when I could get it to print. If Charly Pan and Aaron Lau have gotten things back on track, I'm happy for them.
    It's been a couple of months since my video about the my experience with the rainbow PLA, and Aaron Lau said there were changes that would be made to the machinery producing the filament. Aaron said it would be a couple of months, so maybe this is proof of those changes.
    Personally I think they're reselling someone else's filament. I think they initially ordered a small batch of the rainbow PLA from their supplier, and it was a good batch. You may remember about 3 or 4 months ago there was a big splash of people on Twitter showing some amazing prints with the rainbow PLA. I think that was from the first batch. Then they ordered a second batch and it was of much poorer quality. They probably depend on their supplier to quality-check the filament, and if the supplier isn't doing that, problems arise. Problems like fat blobs of material in the middle of the filament, causing jams.
    Unfortunately, Eryone's initial response to reports of these issues, from myself and others, was to try to blame the purchaser. When I showed Aaron caliper measurements of the blobs in the filament, he said the only way to get a valid measurement of filament diameter was to use a micrometer. So I bought a micrometer. And got the same measurements. Yes, I will buy a $50 tool to measure the diameter of a spool of $20 filament if I have a point to prove. :)
    All in all, I feel the situation was poorly handled from the customer service side of things. They've gotten better about it, but I think they're still a small company and they (like all of us, to be honest) are learning as they go.

      Great points Bryan! Until now, I haven't tried it because I thought it was going to be terrible. My opinion was based on a lot of other people's findings and I did t want to waste my money. I did it now because of the findings on The First Layer, and the negative comments they got. I didn't know what results I was going to get, but I knew it would be my unbiased opinion if I purchased it with no Interference from Eryone. :)

    I think it all comes down to that old saying, "You get what you pay for", and until this "hobby" becomes more mainstream, we are going to see the race to the bottom on everything, machines, parts, filament. Don't get me wrong, I like a cheap roll of filament as much as the next guy, but if there is something I need to print, I'm going to use a quality filament. There are always going to be people that put cheap gas in their car and then wonder why they have problems, same thing here. Just my 2 cents.

    • @TheEdgeofTech
      @TheEdgeofTech  5 лет назад

      I tend to agree with you! But this roll is like $28! So that's really not a very cheap roll of fillament. Haha

      @JohnDStrand 5 лет назад +1

      Say what? That’s as much as Polymaker, or Filament One! OMG! I thought it was less than $20 a spool. Well, for that kind of money it /better/ print nice.

    I bought some silk pla filaments from Eryone, also the rainbow one, but have only tried the copper one so far and it's great. I didn't know people had been saying this brand was bad or had bad experiences with it. I bought it because it was decent priced and I am truly happy, the copper is so silky and pretty, I look forward to try the rainbow one as well. I did put up higher temperatures on the Eryone (from 58 to 65 degrees bed, from 200 to 205 degrees nozzle) because I had some printing issues and thought that could help, also since it is winter and therefore slighty colder in my room, not much though, but maybe people who experience issues with the filament should try to put higher temperatures as well. I don't know if that's what helped my case since I did multiple things + change in enviroment but could be an idea

    Maybe I'll give them another go in future but I have two thirds of their silk gold I just cant get a long print out of, the thickness is all over the place hits over 1.8mm, purchased it about a year ago. Perhaps they got better

    Well I just bought a roll of silk silver, just the perfect color for a Gort robot. It would flow then slow down then flow again. The raft base looked like picket fence. Tried a different print after changing the nozzle same thing. Printed at 213c 55mms. I got this on Aug 30th 2019. Switched filament and didn't change a thing printed great. Oh well. Thanks for the info.

    Good video. Tbh, I'm kinda surprised that Eryone had a bit of a bad rep - I was recommended it and I've been using them exclusively for the last four months since then - and its been nothing but amazing. I guess they must've had a dodgy batch/bad QA happen earlier.

    Hi, a quick update if any one is interested, I bought a roll of steampunk rainbow (muted metallic tones) and I can confirm Jim's findings, it printed perfectly, 200c nozzle, 50 on the bed. I like it, looks really good.

    @shaunmorrissey7313 5 лет назад +2

    OK Jim I've just ordered some "on your recommendation" I was going to buy some rainbow anyway so I thought I'd give it a try. be afraid, be very afraid, just kidding😀 Bizarrely there was a promotion and it comes with one, yes one, free 2208 driver, work that one out. All the best I'll be watching Wednesday.

    I personally find Eryone's silk fillament problematic... I've used the Copper & Rainbow and sometimes it just refuses to stick to the bed, no matter what I do... I've tried different temperature tests between 180-220 on 60c hot plate... And I'm met with either warping or it just doesn't stick at all. But other times it will work straight away... God knows why.... All I know is when I used polysmooth pla, it works 99% the time. So it's discouraged me from even trying to make the Eryone's work properly.

    • @TheEdgeofTech
      @TheEdgeofTech  4 года назад +1

      I totally understand! Sometimes filament just down't cooperate with our printers and that's ok. Thanks for watching!!

  • @MikeVarga

    I'm on my 2nd nozzle, and I haven't gotten a single print job out of it yet today. It lays down the first layer then jams... The brown part of the rainbow (why is there brown in a rainbow?) printed #benchy3d pretty well, but no real colours came with it. Once it got into the green, all hell broke loose... I'm taking another run at it, but I'm about to send it back to Amazon if it keeps this up.
    Followup: I've found that by increasing your nozzle size to .8 from .4, you get consistent flow and zero clogs! With enough room to exit the extruder, it seems to print very reliably! Granted it's a bit of a pain to change the nozzle just to use this filament, but there is a fix for it.

    • @TweetyTwT
      @TweetyTwT 2 года назад

      Some filaments do need bigger nozzles but it surprises me this one needs to be like that. I'm printing with Eryone silky copper with a 0.6 nozzle head and it works fine fortunately. Just a heads up, if you ever try wood/wood color filament in the future then make sure you have at least 0.6 or higher nozzle for that because they need big nozzle heads

      If they advertise 1.75mm +-.02 you shouldn't have to use an 8 mm nozzle.

    sadly mine sucks, I can't print more than 40 deg without issue. warping o like melting, really awful to deal with, and still now can't print nothing with 40deg curvy side, will be a fail for sure

    I'm having a problem with Eryone silk copper PLA slipping on my extruder gear causing under extrusion (I switch to my cheap Frys filament and it prints fine). I think the stuff is just too silky...

    I think the issue with The First Layers review is that it sounded like Eryone clearly told what to say. The diameter was all over the place on the roll I bought, and Eryone’s only response was that I was printing it wrong. The claim that this is made from pure virgin high quality PLA pellets was also a little ridiculous. And they also made it sound like they had control of the manufacturing process. They do t make their filament. I know who does. It’s just OK. It’s not high quality premium filament as they claimed.

    This review could've been really useful, but "I'll take a close up and put it on social media" is pretty annoying - why not take a close up and then edit it into the video so we can see right now, in context?

    You did not address the issue of the bad rolls, where is the manufactures response about quality control? Yeah just jump on the band wagon and buy a roll. If you are not into it for the bucks...I would expect you to take a more cautious response.

    • @TheEdgeofTech
      @TheEdgeofTech  2 года назад

      I have purchased plenty. But I do have to say that this is a very old video now and your commenting on it like it just came out. I'm aware of the issues they had at the time and continue to have once in a while with bad rolls. I've gotten a bad role myself. But the ones I tested in this video were fine and I can only call it as I see it when I'm doing a video. I appreciate the feedback, and I do advise people to read reviews and be cautious anytime they're purchasing something new!
