    Hey Bryan, great unbiased review. I had the same issue with a spool of silk gold from them. I was given the runaround from their customer service as well. After providing pictures of caliper measurements I was told I was holding them wrong.... I got measurements from 2.0 down to 1.6, quite the variation. As always, thanks for sharing!

      Thanks, Thierry. I'm pretty sure I was able to show that calipers and a micrometer are pretty darned close when measuring filament diameter. And it's funny, the ONLY reason I bought that micrometer is because Aaron said the calipers weren't good enough. (Yes, I spent $50 for a tool to prove that the $25 filament was out of spec). 🤓

    "so I bought a micrometer" lol. He told you that the only way to measure filament was a micrometer ... yet his video shows him NOT using a micrometer. Watching his video reminded my why I dislike dial gauges. Jumping all over the place as he tried to straighten the filament to stay between the large plattens. I agree that digital callipers give a satisfactory readings of filament diameters.
    I had similar issues with Eryone Silk Gold. Filament jammed due to being in the 1.9mm range when I ran it on my MK3.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 лет назад

      Well to be fair, he kept saying "thickness gauge" but sent me pictures of a Mitutoyo micrometer. I figured it was just a language barrier thing. But then, yeah, that device he was measuring filament with had those huge parallel discs, making it comically difficult to get a reading on filament that's curved.

    Hey Bryan - Great review. I'm actually new to this product, however, I think I figured out how to use it. Still, in 2021, it is not a consistent size and it clogs nozzles. I lost two (2) today to it. However, through experimentation, I've found that by increasing your nozzle size to .8 from .4, you get consistent flow and zero clogs! With enough room to exit the extruder, it seems to print very reliably! Granted it's a bit of a pain to change the nozzle just to use this filament, but there is a fix for it.

      Hi Mike! I'm glad you're able to get it to work. The two spools of it I tried had not-fully-melted PLA pellets in the filament. The parts of the filament with the pellets embedded in it wouldn't fit into the extruder. This made me sad because the parts that managed to print looked really nice. 🙂

    You are right. I found that diam filement pla of eryone is more than 1.8 so for that my printing was bad and i lost all my printing. Many thanks for your support 100% helped me. I compared diameter of this filement (eryone) and other label i found great gap.

    Hey Bryan. Thanks for the video. I am new to 3d printing, Having bought an Ender3 two months ago, I ordered 3 spools of filament from different manufacturers. The first one I tried was Giantarm, and it was great . I went through the whole spool with no issues, and when it finally ran out I put in this Eryone Agate Grey... I have not had a successful print since (maybe 10 attempts now with different models). While Giantarm stuck to the plate so well I had trouble removing the prints, Eryone refuses to stick. I'll set it to print before going to work, and come back to piles of filament all over the printer and floor. I have changed nothing but the filament, and I check the plate level before every print. Very disappointed with Eryone.

      I have awful trouble with Eryone Orange - just oozes from the print head and refuses to stick to my glass plate. I tried drying it in an oven @ 50C for three hours and the first print was great. The second, and all subsequent prints have reverted to oozing and refusal to stick. It's now in the bin....

    Thanks for sharing this Bryan. I tried watching the video by Aaron Lau and it was so frantic and jumpy that it felt more like a video someone forgot to edit. One day I'll try out a rainbow spool. With so many awesome sample prints out there, it is really tempting to get some for myself. But, for now, I'm going to stick with the material I have. At my rate of printing, it will take me several years to use it all up. :)

    way out of spec for me 1.60 - 1.89 variations
    I wound up sending Aaron 10 photos of my mitotuyo caliper readings, then I got a response from him to just purchase again and if I get a bad roll return it again, can't waste my time like this

      @BV3D  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I waited until the end of the 30-day return window to exchange my first spool of Eryone Rainbow PLA, hoping that if the problem was due to a bad batch, it would have passed through the sales channel by then. The second spool was as bad.
      It's sad because when it prints, it looks REALLY NICE. But then you get a 2mm thick piece and your printer jams. Which kinda sucks when you're an hour into a print, but REALLY sucks when you're like 10 hours into a print.

      Hi Mike, I'm sorry to hear that. I've used Sunlu without issue. I get that there can be problems with filament manufacturers. My experience with two spools of Eryone Rainbow PLA, received a month apart, seems to indicate a quality control problem that needs to be addressed at Eryone.
      Customer service needs to step up and try to make things right, rather than using the "You're measuring it wrong" attitude or the "Just keep returning it until you get a good roll" method.

    People respect companies that admit they may have a problem and courier a replacement asap. People do not respect companies that are in denial which seems to be the case here going by the comments. Eryone you need to listen to your customers and admit you have some issues before you cause yourselves harm. To put it bluntly in an Aussie way "pull your finger out."

  • @MagisterMagnificum
    @MagisterMagnificum 5 лет назад +2

    It looks like the first bump is a pellet of PLA (stock material used to mix with pigment to make the filament itself) that didn't melt all the way and instead only got soft and squished a bit. It sticks out because of the color difference while the second one is harder to see but I bet that is what is going on.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 лет назад

      I think you're right about that. I sort of had that suspicion. Filament production is an interesting process, with many opportunities for something to go wrong. If they had been doing realtime monitoring of their extruder's output they could have caught that, stopped that line, and resolved the issue.

      The current popular theory on Twitter is that they're getting "seconds" stock from whomever is actually running the extruder lines. I would suspect that the first batch of the Rainbow PLA they sent out was probably seconds also, but was just a higher quality run. And that's the batch that everybody on Twitter was getting in the first go-round. But then the second batch came out and it had all sorts of problems, and that's what people (myself included) were having problems with. I also suspect the customer service crew wasn't expecting the second batch to be so completely awful, and just didn't know how to handle it. So yeah, I bought a $50 measuring tool to prove a point about $25 filament, because it seemed to really be the only way to get their attention. In the end, they said the extrusion line was being shut down for 60 days to improve quality. So we'll see in a month or so whether they've got the issues ironed out, both with the filament AND with Customer Service's approach to dealing with complaints.

    Appreciate the review. I watched Lau's measurement on same filament, If I'm reading correctly, he is also getting 1.78~1.82 in places he measured. It doesn't mater how you measure it, if it is ticker than 1.79, it will get stuck in PTFE tube. Also recently I noticed some filaments appearing in market that named PLA but actually they are mixture of PLA and ABS which you can't find a proper temp to extrude it. I'm guessing they are recycled.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  4 года назад

      Hi, and thanks. I think in his video he was deliberately trying to force a reading that was out of spec, by using a tool with an overly-wide measuring surface, and measuring the filament along its curve. I don't know what his intent really was, but he was clearly not measuring the diameter of the filament with any great care or precision.
      The filament market seems to be changing all the time. When I started a couple years ago, PLA was a 180˚C kind of product, and now PLA is often rated for 200˚C to 235˚C. I guess when in doubt print hotter, but once you start getting in the 235-240 range, you'll end up having problems if you have a PTFE-lined hot end. The PTFE tubes just don't like temperatures around 245˚C.

      @@BV3D wow, mine have not been that bad. Luck I guess. But then again been that it's a rainbow spool I not surprised of the inconsistency if they are mixing colors on the fly. I wonder if the people having luck with it are using a larger nozzle.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 лет назад +2

      The weird thing about it though is that the inconsistent diameter is occurring throughout the spool, not just at the color transitions. It's not, say, printing green and then jamming when it turns to blue. I think the people who are successfully printing with this filament have spools where the filament doesn't get up to 2.03mm in diameter. 😀Clearly there are some good spools out there. Just watched this video. I just purchased red sparkle eryone. It clogged...jammed. .thickness is inconsistent. Took me awhile to figure out. It stopped extruding during a print. I took it out and ran some purge through. The purge material was not coming out then there was a large liquid red sparkle drop about three times the filament size dropped to the table. Then another. Then the purge material came out the extruder. I had to raise the temp to 250 to get that purge material to push the eryone filament drop out. Also the extruder would click like filament was jamming. My extruder is strong. It never clicks anymore. So I realized the size was small on the eryone filament.

I haven't had any jamming or clogging issues in any of my printers with it, but I have noticed it doesn't print nearly as well as other brands. In between the part of the filament where it was so thick it wouldn't fit through the extruder, the filament had a nice look to it. The main problem I was having was that it wasn't quality checked to ensure its diameter was within the ±0.05mm tolerance. So it sounds like maybe they've got the diameter issues cleared up, but now there are printability issues with their PLA.

I've recently got into 3D printing and I wanted a couple of silk rolls so I bought pink and copper. I haven't opened the copper but the pink is awful. There are either air bubbles or inclusions of some variety the whole way through the roll as far as I can tell. I've done about 40 hours of printing with the Pink so far and I've had one moderately successful print, however there are obvious weak spots and poor adhesion in several places. Ugh.
    I guess with all that said, do you have a recommendation for a better Silk PLA manufacturer?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Bryan, I have a rainbow silk pla and a couple of other silk pla's not from Eryone but from different companies and every time
    I've tried to print with any of them they always block the hot end after the 1st few layers ( 3 to 5 layer high )
    I tried drying them in a filament dryer for many hours ( over 24 hours on one of them )
    and even had them sit in the dryer when it was set to 50 C and being fed in to the printer,
    But every time they block up any of my now 4 different printers hot ends. even the new all metal hot end on one of the printers.
    I tried changing the flow speed, tried bit by bit upping the nozzle temperature beyond even the top one stated on the boxes.
    Nothing helps, they always block the hot end! My other discord forum members tell me that upping the temps don't help and the pla should be working?
    But the silk pla always just keep blocking the hot ends. So maybe even 3 years on the diameter problem on all produced silks from every maker has the same fault?

After printing it feels like model was made out of napkins or toilet paper..you can brake it with a finger.. And its with .5 Nozzle .1 wall high and 220C. No Clogs.. Had to use white filament for another print so i did "install new filament" 3 times.. and still had pink color coming out for another 10 min of printing.

    I’ve been lucky! I’ve had two rolls of rainbow, sparkly, copper silk, never any jams. But, on the copper silk I did have a weird thing happen where is was “squeaking” on retraction, and half way through the print it snapped? I wonder if that’s the issue?

      Hi Stephen! That squeaking issue is kind of weird. I had an issue like that once on my Prusa MK3, but that was a long time ago and I don't remember what filament it was happening with (or whether it was the extruder itself).

      Hi Phil, I think at the time they were trying to cover up negative reviews, but I've seen recently in their FaceBook group that they seem to have come around and are owning up to mistakes and trying to make things right.
      They're still having production issues, but they're offering replacements. One I saw was where somebody ordered three spools of the same color. The spools they received were all different shades of the same color, and it looked like Eryone was going to replace them.
      I think they need a better QA process in place to catch these issues before they reach consumers.

      If you have digital calipers, check the diameter of the filament. Mine was very inconsistent. And a friend of mine on Twitter yesterday showed me a picture of one of his spools of Eryone filament, and it had a blob of incompletely melted PLA pellet in it, like mine did.

      There was 100% a problem on the extrusion line when that batch or batches of filament were being produced. That weird glob in the filament was a not-fully-melted PLA pellet. Also holy heck my hair was short three years ago!

There is a good news, I was told that we start to do this from June 21, it will spend 2 months for improving all machines. BTW, if someone buy any roll pla with inconsistant diameter, please send a message with a picture via amazon message. Eryone team will offer you a 99% code for the item which you buy. Welcome everybody to communicate eryone items with us: problems - we will try our best to solve them, good ideas - we will try our best to accomplish them. Your problems and requests will urgue us to improve our items quality and service. We want to offer evry customers our best items and service, we will continue to try our best to do this. All staff of Eryone Team need all friends' help and support and need also more times to improve them. Once again, thanks for Bryan's time and understanding.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Aaron. I am glad your filament producer will be improving the machines. In a couple of months, when the filament is being produced with a diameter that is consistently within tolerances, please let me know.
      For now, I have a spool of filament I cannot use, because it some portions of it will not fit into the extruder on my printers. Your offer of a 99% discount code is generous, but I, and other customers with problematic filament, cannot just keep returning spool after spool trying to get one that is within tolerances. And until your filament producer has finished their improvements, that is what will happen.
      Once the improvements are in place, I recommend continuously monitoring the diameter of filament being produced to ensure it is within tolerances. If the monitoring system detects filament that is not within tolerances, that filament line should be halted, examined to determine the cause of the problem, and restarted only when the problem has been resolved.
      If Eryone can sell consistently good filament-and I mean as close to 1.75mm as possible-you will have a LOT of loyal customers praising you, and coming back for more.
      So, please let me know when the new filament is ready after the improvements have been made to the production line. I would like to give it a try.

    Value your opinion and methodology. I will not buy this filament. I do a lot of multi color printing on mmu2s and palette2. Believe me tolerances matter to either multi material solution. That's why Prusa made their own filament with true .02 or less tolerances. If u can't get it to work in single color printing I'll not even try it. Guess everyone that "loves it" has especially wide filament path.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  5 лет назад

      Hi Nuroo! Long time no see! I suspect Eryone is simply rebranding or white-boxing from another manufacturer. It's a common practice, from what I've heard. Whatever factory sourced the spools I bought was clearly having issue, given that the filament would drop to 1.67mm diameter and then balloon to 1.8mm in the space of a few cm.
      Based on that, it's entirely likely that there are (or were) quite a few "good" spools out there, and it was just my bad luck to get two bad ones. I hoped that getting the replacement a month after the first one would've allowed for the bad stock to pass out of the sales channel.
      I think the main point of my frustration with the situation is that it's a roll of the dice whether you get a good or bad roll, and you don't know it's bad until your printer jams. And I don't have time to keep returning/exchanging things with Amazon.
