As a lifelong fan of this franchise in my short 27 years here on Earth, I want to thank you for reacting to this today. Burt Young has always been a part of my life thanks to these films. He never got the props/flowers he deserved. RIP Burt Young/Paulie.
Never met or know Burt Young in person but watching the Rocky movies over and over as a kid, you sort of feel like you know the characters personally. Feels sad when the actors pass away. One day Stallone will be gone and that will be a sad day too.
Burt Young was a highly underrated actor with incredible range. And interesting fact, Burt Young was a legitimate boxer and the man had hands. Paulie had some great lines, but one of my favorites has to be Rocky IV right before Rocky makes the walk to fight Drago and Paulie tells him “if I could ever step outta myself and be someone else I’d wanna be you, you’re all heart Rock. Now blast this guys teeth out!”
Burt was a fantastic actor.. i never once got the feeling he was acting..he really makes it seem like thats he is really Paulie. He lived a long life...but not long enough... will miss his acting... legendary
Im personally kinda pissed that they had cut this scene... hope maybe someday Sly would possibly put out Directors cuts to the Rocky films... maybe.. but... eh...
I will never understand why this scene was deleted it was so crucial to his character growth and showed he had so much remorse for how he treated his sister
It was a great character scene (especially for Paulie). It is sad that it was cut in my opinion...but because they deleted all the other earlier scenes with Paulie's (more or less grouchy) girlfriend, this scene also got the axe (shame that they were unable to cut around it)....however the tail end of the scene did stay in the final film "You're gonna do alright Rocko", "How do you know?", "That stuff in the basement" ✌️
Burt Young (Paulie) knocked it out of the park in this scene. I have no idea why they would have cut this. It's powerfully emotional you really feel his pain. Thanks for sharing
Movie recommendation: Shot Caller (2017) starring among many others Nikolaj Coster-Walday (Jamie Lannister you know) and Jon Bernthal. Family man Nikolaj makes a mistake and winds up in a California state prison, and once inside it's sink or swim. His time in prison is told in flashbacks, while we follow current day Nikolaj as he at the start of the movie is released from prison, and he struggles to complete a deal he can't back out from. Fantastic performances, and with a haunting score. The last movie that had me this gripped was Sicario (2015), and that's saying something.
my mom worked with Burt Young on Blood Beach and I was glad she said nothing but nice things about him. some people are pretty shitty behind the scenes, especially to lowly script girls, etc. so I heard some stories about people I admired on screen but didn't live up to their image, so to speak. I remember her saying the words, "consummate professional" and "really funny". William Shatner and Donald Sutherland were complete assholes..... Burt Young will live forever in my fond memories and my own lame claims to fame.
I never understood why they killed off Adrian and left this asswipe. Of course, I'm referring to the characters..not the actors. Burt Young was a brilliant actor.

Uncle Paulie
That scene would have made his death in Creed film more impactful.

This scene really should have been in the theatrical cut. It's so beautifully written and acted.
RIP, Paulie.
Rip Gerald Tommaso DeLouise, you will be missed
This, and the earlier scene when Rocky is going through all the places from their past really complement each other nicely. Shame this got cut.
Why in the world would they delete this scene?
I will never understand why this scene was deleted it was so crucial to his character growth and showed he had so much remorse for how he treated his sister
I just heard. Sad news but he was along the ride for a long time.
RIP Burt Young

Thanks so much for doing this. Man, was that powerful. Yes, should've been left in.
It's an abomination they cut that scene. Hated that Creed prevented his image from appearing in this one too. :/
Oorahh paulie Mr burt Young tough as nails love this guy he actually boxed in the marine corp had a good record semper Fi
Damn, I never watched this scene. Made me really appreciate the character of Paulie even more. RIP Burt Young, enjoy the best up there.
He was great in his one ep on the The Sopranos too. Played Bobby’s father.

I totally agree, I love this scene and that's why I did my own version of Rocky Balboa and put some of the deleted scenes back in.
RIP Burt
