Practical effects, FOR THE WIN, BABY!!!
Not many people know this, but Mel Brooks actually produced the film, but decided not to attach his name to it because he didn't want people to think it was a comedy.
Didn’t he also produce The Elephant Man?
@@sdprazak Yep.
I did not know that! Thank you
30+ years afterwards I'm pretty sure it's widely known by now. I mean it does start with "Brooksfilms."
@@toddbonny3708I’ve seen the Fly so many times, but I didn’t associate BrooksFilms with Mel.
Thank you for being the only reactor I’ve seen to acknowledge the similarity of Brundle’s tragic journey to that of someone with a terminal illness…. or even addiction. In the ‘58 original, the transformation is instant. In this masterpiece, we got to go through the journey with Seth and Ronnie. The trashiness of his apartment that took place in the intervals between seeing Ronnie was an ingenious way without wasting runtime of showing Seth’s anger and desperation.
And his final solution to the problem, as insane as it was, was a solution made of pure fear and desperation.
The “Insect Politics “ speech was brilliantly written and performed. I agree with you that THE FLY is Goldblum’s greatest performance in a movie. It allowed us to see almost every range of emotion.
Jeff’s costar, Jon Getz (Stathis) in an interview would state that he was in awe of Goldblum’s preparation and dedication to detail. Thank you for your reaction. My favorite of anyone reacting to this film.
I saw this in the theater in 86 with 2 friends from high school when we were 15. We thought we were going to see Aliens but it ended up being a double feature, The Fly and Aliens. We were blown away by the end of the night and that was the only double feature I've ever seen.
I saw it too in theater in 86 I was 10 my big sister took me. It was the grosses movie I've ever seen in my life. 🤢Got home and hurled my dinner after. I saw Aliens the week before.
One of the most emotional movies I've ever scene and I love Goldblum's performance.
Grosses too
This film is way more disgusting than scary. But anyway, great reaction bro! 👍🏿
Jeff Goldblum in Into The Night.
Definitely a tragic story. Seth was a good man who was destroyed by happenstance. Sometimes, the good guy loses.
The best metamorphosis of ang movie ever
Remember when she said she is pregnant? Yup Fly 2 exist.
I was a 9 when I saw the original (Vincent Price, 1958). It’s funny, but to me the original is a different kind of creepy. For a kid, chills up the spine creepy. We’d never seen anything like it before. It was scary enough, but that ending haunted my dreams for years… if you know, you know.
Help Me, Help Me
I was even younger when I first saw that version. Yes, it WAS creepy.... but I'd already seen enough in my (at the time) young life, that it didn't freak me out. The only movie to actually accomplish that, was "The Omega Man", when I saw it at the lovely age of 6. After that one, NO movie bothered me again. And I saw all of the horror movies made at the time (before I was a teenager). The Exorcist, The Omen, all of those movies made prior to 1980, I saw as a pre-teen. Only "The Omega Man" freaked me out at the time. Which is funny to look back on, as I love that movie, and I see (as an older me) that it shouldn't have scared me as much as it actually did. But I was 6 years old... so cut me some slack.
Oh, I WILL say that The Fly 2 is one I won't watch again.... not because it was a bad movie (it wasn't).... but because of ..... well...... I don't want to spoil it.... but "animal lovers" understand. That's all I'll say.
@@IggyStardust1967
Same here. Watched "The Fly 2" years ago & never wanted to see it again. I liked Eric Stoltz but not enough to watch it again.
I am, indeed, an animal lover so I know exactly what you mean. I cry easily over "animals in peril" moments so that one made me sob & ugly cry.
Spoiler for 1958 version...
I do love the original "The Fly" but the disapperaing kitty really upset me as a child & still bothers me if I catch the film on late night tv every few years.
And it had a sequel that had a scene involving a Guinea Pig that also bothered me.
Makes you want to yell "Hey, Scientists! Leave those animals alone!"😭
I love your new tagline -
Like Spiderman but gross 😂
This movie both horrified and saddened me. The ending makes me cry every time.
Even to this movie was suppose to be scary and disgusting, i Always find it to be mostly incredibly depressing
⛄ 🔪
I love how the sticky movements of the brundlefly animatronic were skittery just like a real fly.
It's a love story/tragedy/cautionary tale all wrapped up in one.
I thought Goldblum should have at least gotten a nomination for an Oscar.
"Too bad"
This and An American Werewolf in London are my favorite all time horror movies.
Both Tragic love stories, both horror movies.
The practical effects are unmatched by even CGI.
And a big huge shout out to David Cronenberg
The baron of blood.
I loved your reaction to this movie, there is a Fly 2 but it's not as well received. If you're able to find you may want to watch it on your own.
I thought Eric Stoltz did a great job and really liked that they brought the character of the magazine editor back.
@@markmcgee2417
Yes me too, sadly it's very difficult to find the movie.
A few scenes got cut out including a scene when Brundle in his mid transformation sends an alley cat and baboon through a telepod. Resulting a mutated creature then Brundle beats it up with the led pipe
If you're taking recommendations, try an '80s film that NO ONE has reviewed yet: "Quest for Fire." One of a kind.
Geena Davis is actually a confirmed genius with a massive IQ. Wouldn't surprise me if the same were true of Jeff Goldblum.
"Like Spiderman, but not as cool." Uh, yeah.
Jeff Goldblum is always known for being so silly... and then you see The Fly (or Death Wish, good lord).
16:00 that is so not like chat gtp and even that isn't anything new
You must check
Deep Cover from 1992
Laurence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum in a absolute classic 90s undercover Thriller.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the greatest remakes of all time (Sci-Fi or otherwise).
The 4th of 5 features films in a franchise that began with one of the great B-movie classics.
All this from a short story that was published back in 1957.
Both an intriguing and scary film.
I was age 6 at the time.
Could handle the storytelling with it's suspense, drama and even the gore.
This was the 2nd of 3 films to co-star Goldblum & Davis and it was the more serious one, while the other 2 were comedic.
Howard Shore's original score is fantastic and
the main theme is as epic as it is ominous.
Goldblum in his second leading role has much deserved praise.
While every actor has their own style, Goldblum himself is a style of acting, to me that's cool.
One of the top films of it's year.
5 awards including make-up effects by Chris Walas (Gremlins).
"Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" is one of the most beloved taglines and one-liners of film.
In the end, it's about genius being a curse as much as it is a gift.
We as human beings can stray from who we are and become something else.
Most would think that's better and could make monsters (figuratively) out of ourselves before it's too late to grasp our humanity.
Such a classic, and still everything you'd never expect this kind of movie to be. Horrific but also tragic and romantic, sci-fi but gothic, characters who change and continually surprise, and with one of the scariest dream sequences ever? They don't make 'em like this anymore ❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍
🪰 👍
This story was created in 1957. First movie made in 1958: "The Fly." WOW! Imaginations back then thinking of this stuff, huh?
Proper horror movie, where there’s no winners! Much preferred than watching a cute happy ending!
She gave birth to a two-foot long maggot! Great film!
I'd love to see a reaction to the deleted scene where Brundle tries to splice the baboon with a cat.....
Very incisive commentary. Thank you!
Freakin' fantastic love story. With a little fly thrown in.
What you see on that screen in this movie is nothing even remotely similar to ChatGPT
ChatGPT is just a language model lol
Yes, Yes, Yes, You finally watched it. I actually cheered a little bit when i got the notification lol.
Seriously though, So glad you liked it. I love this film. More of a tragic love story than a scary horror, fantastic acting and amazing makeup and effects.
Kept my word and signed up for patreon too
Glad you liked it!
Such an epic film
Goldblum and Davis were also in transylvania 6500, totally different kind of movie than this but worth watching
Lol @ "Okay, I have a feeling that this is going to be somethin like Spiderman but not as cool." Yeah... something like that.
This is the only movie where I almost walked out of the theater. When that ear fell off I was like “oh hell no” 😂. Martin Lawrence did an hilarious skit on this movie in one of his early stand up shows.
I was 10yrs old in 86 when I saw this....today remains one of the grosses films I've seen. I hurled my dinner that night.
The second film is well worth your time aswell.
I mean, yeah ... super-intelligent scientist but there's a fly in the laboratory ... shit like that happens ALL the time!
Oh “just go with it”!
you should see the original
It’s actually more of a love story than anything else.
Honestly this is one of the best science fiction movies ever made. When you really look at it and how it was made, how much care was taken into consideration and pushing the boundaries of both storytelling and performances this is so good
Where is he getting these baboons?
So, Kirk Lazarus was wrong then. You can go full fly and still get an Oscar.
I eat like brundle fly😃
Geena Davis is a babe, amazingly beautiful.
Please watch last stop 174 its brasilian movie based on true events
And i know u will like it🤣💯
The practical effects still hold up!
You do know…it’s a true story!
❤❤
Such an awesome & sad film. Goldblum should have received an Oscar nomination, but you know ... horror.
One fun note: Cronenberg plays the doctor in the horrific dream sequence.
He did get a Saturn award for best actor which is the horror movies version of an Oscar but I still say this is an Oscar winning performance
@@leighkeane7770 yeah I agree, he should've been nominated by the big dog.
David Cronenberg specializes in "uncomfortable to watch" movies.
Btw, "like Spider-Man, but not as cool". Excellent summary! 👍
"like spiderman, but not as cool" is a good elevator pitch for this film :D
I LOVE this movie. It’s so tragic.
I was so sure the second baboon would come in clutch at the end. Meant my eye was off the ball a bit.
Hi❤❤❤. Yeah it is gross. But a good one✌️
