    I have done a test drive on the Stinger GT in Munich and I was surprised how good it is.
    My opinion is that you get more for your money if you compare it to bmw 440i, mecedes c43 and Audi s4 s5 coupe in regards to equipment / performance. With those you can easily pay 20.000 euros more. I'm a Mercedes fan, but...
    Great move from KIA.
    And Thomas you forgot to talk about many features of the car that you usually talk, 😣, 15 speakers harman kardon system, heated seats in the back, nice car key, 270km/h limited speed (more than the default 250 of the German), 😎, a optional performance exhaust and other small details. Ahhh, and to test the safty of the automatic closure of the tailgate. 😂
    Congrats for the channel.👍🏻

    Test drove a Volvo today. I like that the Kia controls are more intuitive and simple to use. And this thing blows any Volvo off the road, including our S60 R design with the I6. But especially the 4 cylinder versions.

    As soon as I did a test drive of this car, I fell in love with it. For what it offers, at this price point, it is a superb achievement from Kia. I was willing to set aside my preconceived ideas about the Kia brand and give them a chance to redeem themselves for their past mistakes of the early 1990s (here in Canada). So far, I haven't regretted it one second. Thanks for this honest review, although you neglected to cover some other very interesting features. But I understand that you perhaps wanted to concentrate on the driving experience. To this day, I still get thumbs-up from all kinds of people on the road when they look at my 2018 Hi-Chroma Red Kia Stinger AWD GT Limited. How many people driving a BMW, a Mercedes, or an Audi (except perhaps the Audi TT) can say that? lol !

    The Kia Stinger is unique to the rest of the range because it is aimed at the premium market and a gran turismo. The Stinger has a brilliant V6 engine with a brilliant exhaust note, epic to drive despite there is not too much direct steering feel, well designed interior with air-jet style air-con vents and aggressive styling.

    I own a 2020 Kia Stinger GT2 myself. I've read and watched a lot of reviews. I get the distinct sensation that the more recent cars have received a lot of small process streamlining improvements over the cars that were first reviewed in 2017/2018. My fuel economy is always somewhat better than stated in reviews, typically being a mixed hwy/city cycle of 23-24 US.mpg, or about 350 miles on a tank, with a 14.5-15.0 US.gal refill, which is about bang on 10L/100kms. The feature set I have seems to be more complete. A lot of the minor complaints I see/read about in reviews don't seem to be present in my car. I suspect that minor process tweaks have been made to the suspension, and perhaps some tweaks to the gear change and EFI/ignition mapping as acceleration seems to be a little more fierce and immediate than the factory figures and reviews suggest.
    To me, the Stinger is basically a story of quality where your eyes can easily see it, and some cost-savings where it's more out of sight. My biggest complaint about the Stinger is that while 75% of the interior is finished with good quality materials, the 25% less visible parts of the interior is generally finished with cheap plastic that scuffs up very easily, and while it's mostly out of sight, it does annoy the attentive owner who takes pride in their vehicle to see scratches and scuffs after minor interior scrapes against these cheap plastic surfaces even after trying to take precautions against such. The same is true of the paintwork. It is not very deep and I have a scuff that I cannot buff out on my rear tailgate area that I have no idea how it got there. Plastic paint protection strips are a must on this car if you are frequently placing items in the trunk, and in my opinion, should've been included as standard around the trunk lip area.
    Those gripes aside, the car offers fantastic value for money. What it gives up in terms of quality or performance here and there, if such bothers you, can easily be addressed with aftermarket parts and still come out way ahead in terms of money spent when comparing to anything else on the market with offers a similar overall package. The Stinger is a halo car for Kia to get people to begin to compare Kia to more expensive/luxury appointed manufacturers. It's fast and sporty without being a sports car, it's luxurious and comfortable for hours on end without being a true luxury car, it offers quality materials where the eyes look 90% the time without spending another $10K to provide quality materials where the eyes look the last 10% of the time. It steers and handles extremely well, without spending another $10-20K for truly scalpel like precision.
    I think that's it. That's what this car is. It's a 90% car. It does everything about 90% as well as the best of everything else in its product segment, but after speccing equally for options, it costs just 50-75% as much any of the more upmarket brands, but it makes no apologies for what it is. It gives you an appetiser, a taste for the best of everything else, and it does so at an affordable price. Is it a trade-off? Of course it is, but Kia have optimised the Stinger to deliver as much of the feel of the more premium brands as possible at a fantastic value for money price point. It does everything well. It is a true jack-of-all-trades luxury touring daily car for the everyday driver.

    The autonomous steering disengages at about 40 mph (the icon with lane markings go from green to white), so that could be why it didn't react to the bend in the road. In the US, it starts to complain about you not having your hands on the wheel after about 10 seconds; you should not have been able to go "hands free" that long. :)

    Such a fantastic and very appealing looking car especially at it's price point ( and dare I say even better than some of the premium makes ). The big German automakers and others have history on their side, so on their first attempt at this segment top credits to Kia for doing a really great job in creating such a characterful car that is quite affordable and easy on the money to service/maintain for a lot of owners' on a budget.
    Dash/cabin is appropriately sporty and well designed. User interface is more than enough to decipher and not overly complicated. Thank You again Thomas for bringing such an insightful review. Hope you get to show us Kia's counterpart the Hyundai G70.

      komunista114 :) I have the V6 stinger. Was going to get a C43 or S5 but drove those and remembered reading about this and thought, Wong hurt to try. Personally, besides the fact that offers better value, I thought it felt more refined and the exterior design is much more striking.
      That is one of the fun parts of owning this. The number of times that you have a BMW in particular, and second most Audi cars, that ride the backside of cars purely because they think they own the road - they then slow down then. The were just trying to make some bizarre point. They make no point at all when a 320d becomes a dot in the mirror very quickly and absolutely nothing that they can do about it! :)
      I like it and no other manufacturer puts their money where there mouth is with the 7 year warranty. Sadly the days of rock sold German automobiles that lasted for a good couple of decades has gone, they are built to last under 10 years and start wearing out at 5 - or earlier in some cases. Kia’s development through pride and effort is greater than any other manufacturer and felt they were worth a shot. Drives even better than my Alfa Giulia at high speeds, much more stable and the wind noise of the mirrors on the Giulia was very irritating after a time.
      Glad I bought it and they have some great models that are feeding through in the US and will shake up the industry over the coming years. A manufacturer that doesn’t take customers for granted is always a good shout for any consumer. Will take a long time to get around the European mentality of buying badges over cars and biased media. Which on that note is why I like this channel, tends to be a lot fairer than many other European channels. Normally have to watch US videos to get a less biased opinion.

      @@dpjyuleHey, that is a great comment. I absolutely and fully agree with you. I test drove a Stinger GT a few days ago and signed a contract for a new 2021 model on the spot. I love the new taillight design and I really luke the interior touches and the new infotainment they added for next year. The downside is that I will have to wait a bit longer to actually take delivery, but that just gives me more time to enjoy my Alfa Giulia. 😉

    Thanks for the review. I've ordered a GT in february and waiting for delivery end of next month. I've been driving Audi for the last 10 years but I was very suprised by this car and its handling. Personally, the price / performance / feature ratio made me go for the Stinger. I was first looking into Audi again but +80 quotes didn't get me happy. You just don't have to compare it with other German cars. It is not on the same level but for me its more than good enough. Offcourse many people are unable to look further than the Kia badge but if you can you will see it's a very good car for its price. I did 2 testdrives, one with the 2.0 RWD and one with the 3.3 GT but I never experienced anything on the level of the suspension. Also the feedback of the steeringwheel seems much better than my current Audi but that's offcourse my personal opinion. Anyway, great review.

    Hello Thomas, long-time watcher but first-time commenting. I'm in the U.S. and own a Stinger, and it's definitely a lot of fun to drive. Having test driven a couple of the premium competing cars (BMW 4 Grand Coupe, Audi A5), I pretty much agree with your review on the Stinger, but it's worth the $12,000 US savings to me. What I found interesting during your driving is the lane-keep assist system. Mine does give me a warning when I keep my hands off the steering wheel for too long, and then it will deactivate the system if I don't take the wheel. There are also three levels of that system, not including off, including just a lane-departure warning without lane-keeping assist. I usually just keep the system off so it doesn't annoy. :) Love watching the channel, you guys keep up the great work!

Also has designers and performance heads from Audi & BMW. I was surprised Thomas didn’t point out that and all the features this car has standard - basically loaded. Great review Thomas. I bought a GT2 AWD (in US) a couple of weeks ago and really enjoy it. I agree it's not quite Audi/BMW levels of refinement but it's competitive and a great value. I always have to laugh when people say the ride is a bit firm/harsh because I think it rides super smooth, but my last vehicles were a Mark 3 TT, Ford Mustang GT and Porsche 981 Boxster! I am quite happy with the car, but if Audi offered adaptive cruise on their base S5 sportback, one of those would be in my garage now! Can't justify the $15 grand price difference loaded.

    Hi Thomas, the location is so beautiful and feeling the camera surfing over those long tight roads is so nice with kind of breath taking! I love and appreciate these Kia's cars from Picanto to Stinger, "The Power To Surprise" is their principal and they are very honest to it as we notice! Since 10 years no one was thinking about comparing them to the German, now, and with their German designer Peter plus other great designers too, sure they are willing to beat MB, BMW, VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat, and I am sure they will beat them all "next". I said once, like Samsung did on mobile phone side when Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson ... were showing off "only" about their antennas receiving power, so here again, the South Korean cars will strike very soon! The German are very smart to be at the challenge but in one condition, to change their cars designers and bring true artists with high computers knowledge, not only with high computer knowledge, when at the same time Kia and Hyundai took this road since few years and like we see, the people, everywhere in the world, nowadays, appreciate design, in little things like shoes for example until biggest products like cars, boats and planes. People are the best in feeling the best designs, like in music, only people can decide who are the best musicians with honesty, and this is what is happening with Hyundai and Kia cars, the people are believing their art in cars making where the German, like MB and BMW are becoming very introvert and making more weird and strange designs year after year, and people don't like that at all! Mercedes-Benz, despite they are advancing in Engineering and maybe number one in that, they are loosing the roots of their cars shapes! As this is only my personal point of view, I also see that Mercedes, for example, can be more successful in winning the coming challenge by going back and revival the most of their old cars models in a very innovative way, an important point that the South Korean cars don't have at all, a way to keep MB cars look like a Mercedes only! And so on for BMW and many others.

    On the Stingers I have driven I was unhappy with the restricted view out the rear window. Otherwise it’s near perfect

      Ann Urch The 360 degree cameras are good though and to an extent help make up for this. You can even fire up the rear view camera whilst driving at high speed aswell as slow speed. That rear window is small though I know what you mean. Like looking through a letterbox

      @@dpjyule I recently installed a remarkable new 2K 12 in. HD Dual Mirror Color Camera DVR System with wide angle rear view, and with rear camera placed inside over the rear mirror. This shows you all lanes, so I leave the rear cam on all the time for driving. It also assists when reversing. The wiring can be easily tucked into the headliner...and can be hardwired into your fusebox...or just leave the the provided 12 v power supply plugged into the console...check them out on Amazon...

    For the Stingers it’s regional when it comes to the value. Canada, where I live, gets the stingers for the least price. I paid 46k before tax for my V6 GT AWD, almost brand new, that’s about 32k euro. If you guys in Europe gets the same cad for 32k, I bet it’d be a very good deal 😂

    I would think. A brushed Aluminum Stinger Sill Plate would help. And manual Transmission. This would go A long way. And it has been said in long drive that A warning keeps going off like the coffee cup in the Mercedes-Benz. I button to turn this off would be good. What do you all think of these ideas?

    I know there are issues with the paint chipping. AS well the battery is at the back so it does offer emf, for some it could be a health issue.

    What a design!
    I would love a diesel review.
    How that compares to 620d for example.
    Do they use double clutch in 2.0d?
    I think this car by price belongs to Talisman or Superb, other wise it has no point, in Europe at least.

    • @slavomirkocka3749
      @slavomirkocka3749 5 лет назад

      620d should be prohibited. The car without the engine. ;-) This car is so much more than superb or talisman. Better suspension, better brakes, better chassi, much more stiffer.

    ...and I just noticed one Stinger trim update evident in this model you are driving during your review... the vertically mounted GPS display is now fully squared off with metal trim in this model, vs earlier models equipped with the much wider tapered and much uglier black plain plastic base... great job and thanks again...

    I like the exterior, I've recently saw it it white - really cool. But on the over hand from the review for me is obvious why it is cheaper then competitors: not so good here, not so good there: artifitial steering, unsharp brakes, strange assistant behaviour, too much speed noise... maybe those 15k. extra price really worth it to pay..

    A very nice car, like the Muatang under the sport cars.
    In the inside of the car you can see why Mercedes or Audi is more expensive.
    No Head up display and not a very nice Touchscreen.
    But in all this car is one of the best cars from Kia.

    Nice car,.It was Kia's try to get attention for producing a fast fastback car and I think they succeeded here.But the interior could be a bit better in quality .If you ask for a premium price you had better have a premium interior ,engine and performance.This is wher e this car doesn't really deliver compared to other premium rivals.But interesting nevertheless.Great video Thomas,as usual!!!

    This car looks great but the integration of the rear reflectors is so horrendous that I can't stop thinking about it, and I always see them now when I think of the car. Also, they really cheaped out on the screen on the interior. The plastic border is way too thick. Beautiful otherwise it's impressive.

  • @Blvck0ne
    @Blvck0ne 6 лет назад

    I've seen a couple different version of this car at auto shows and at the dealership. The one thing that I do not like is the rear window visibility. Audi is the only manufacturer that has mastered the fastback visibility in the rear window. For a first generation car, Kia did a very nice job overall. The rear end does need some design because it's flat out ugly when compared to the rest of the vehicle.

    • @iolab7097
      @iolab7097 6 лет назад

      Absolutely agree with you on that back window visual, and God forbid someone goes and gets the tinting then of course one says well no worries it has a back visual camera display but what the hell does that matter on a snowy winter day, when you just want to go right?! One must be able to feel spaciousness in their vehicle to feel in control and honestly that back window just offers another pain.

  • @eyoo369
    @eyoo369 6 лет назад

    The exterior is really nice, but I feel the interior is lacking character. KIA copied many characteristics like the flat bottom steering wheel from Audi, the floating infotainment screen from BMW and the aviator-style air vents from Mercedes. It's a nice car, but I feel this car would've been so much better if KIA invested more time in developing their own character in the interior.

      Hard to say.. but in my opinion it is a first release right?! I'm sitting this one out....for many reasons. I truly feel it has a market, but who knows if they keep getting the paint chipping that could become a bad badge. Kia seems good about fixing issues though...but still a new car that requires paint to be redone?! What else is coming?
