I loved the plain bread. Our whole family does. My daughter got a catapillar shaped on in Perth Western Australia. It was so sweet. I love the hats that you have, they look great. I wonder if you two will workout what the yellow was in the coconut balls? 🤔 great video

You are meant to eat Mantou by dipping them in sauces for breakfast usually. If you eat it on its own then yeah it's just plain bread 😂

Mantou - Milk buns. The yellow filling is egg custard. If they have it, would suggest trying the mochi with peanut and sugar filling (might be more of a Malaysian thing. If you liked the sesame ball thing, you can look out for ham sui gok (not sure on spelling) bit oilier, basically fried glutinous rice with a meat filling, so sweet and savory. But of what y'all ate, would take the mochi or the sesame ball!

Freshly made good hot bread is incredible and of course doesn't even need anything. Italian breads are delicious and can easily eat a lot...ciabatta, focaccia, semolina, etc. Along with some dipping into olive oil, yummy

It is a glutinous rice ball covered in grated coconut with palm sugar fillings.

Greetings from Switzerland and Happy Sunday!
I love plain bread. Did you actually know that it’s known in Scots as plain breid (pronounced [plen brid]), which is a traditional style of loaf made chiefly in Scotland and Ireland.
I was surprised to see how difficult it was for you to open the Chestnuts! To peel fresh chestnuts, we rinse them, then make a nick in the skin on the flat side of each and roast them. Chestnuts can be dried and milled into flour, which can then be used to prepare breads, cakes, pies, pancakes and pastas. The nuts can also be eaten candied (whole chestnuts candied in sugar syrup, then iced), which is amazing! If you have a sweet tooth, you can have a "Mont Blanc" (or Mont-Blanc aux marrons) is a dessert of sweetened chestnut purée in the form of vermicelli, topped with whipped cream. I tried to find the word in German, for Sarah but can’t find it, the only word that comes out is Vermicelles…

In Lisbon, usually by fall or winter is pretty normal to see street vendors selling chestnuts. I would even say that is quite the Portuguese tradition to do so at that time of the year and a dozen is around 3€/500 yen.
Its kinda cool to see a chinatown in the middle of Yokohama doing the same and i wonder if that as anything to do with the Portuguese and their interactions with chinese culture

I agree with Emma, Sachima is a quite underrated Chinese snacks. The ingredients are simple as hell: just some eggs, flours, and syrup. Traditionally they mix the flour and egg and deep-fry that in noodle shape to make it extremely fluffy (then add syrup and make it in block shape). I personally prefer the original flavor (no sesame or brown sugar or whatsoever). It is analogous to the marshmallow cereal snack in the West, but Sachima is 100 times better imo.

Huh, interesting... the first time we went to Japan around 15 years ago, right by the end of winter, you could find chestnut to sell everywhere in Tokyo... every single neighborhood had those carts preparing them. Has it become a more localized thing now?
I like it, but only when it's pipping hot... it becomes dry and brittle very quickly, and then it starts feeling almost like you are eating some dry paste. xD
There's a similar type of nut we eat here in Brazil that works in a similar way, but it's salty instead of sweet. Do you guys know pinyon pine? I'm not sure how popular it is outside my region.
Local Japanese import shop also does that sweet mochi with coconut shavings occasionally, no filling though.
The one thing I definitely recommend in Yokohama Chinatown though is going into a tea shop to see the selection of Jasmine tea. Well, if you like tea that is. I remember we went into a shop there that had a wall entirely covered of small wooden cabinets all with different types of Jasmine tea.
In my hometown, we used to have a restaurant that was proper Chinese, not fast food westernized Chinese... it closed long ago, but I still remember the awesome dishes it had. They had the round tables with the middle that rotates around, served a small plate of roasted peanuts as entry, and I remember most about the carp, duck and a few other dishes that you don't usually find in westernized Chinese restaurants. The owner and staff were all Chinese...
    Anyways, just rambling... xD
