Me too! But is there another guitar playing with the Bossa Nova beating, right? Who was playing with you Josh ? Isn't easy to beat this Bossa Nova, even for brazilians!
Can't help but agree... Idk about you, but most of Brazilian music sounds so very empty when played in one instrument only. It doesn't matter how much you try, be it bossa, sertanejo or whatever.
The young lady approaches the number -- at the absolute outset -- with a swing phrasing sensitivity as if she's been singing this song for 40 years. Textbook perfection.
I'm from Brazil! And I'm soooo happy/proud to hear you guys singing such a classic music from here. Come and visit us, Josh! You have an incredible talent. And Larkin, girl, you have a gorgeous voice!
Josh, I'm 58 years old and grew up with Elvis, The Beatles and started playing guitar learning from Clapton and Hendrix and those before them. I happened upon one of uploads and it's nice to see such talent and use of the other talent around him making great music. Keep on Growin'. You are such a virtuoso and I'm sure will do well in your career of music.
Think before you speak, I was confused by this comment at first but he’s talking about what music was around him when he was growing up and how it shaped him, not that he literally got taught by Hendrix and Clapton
One of the nicest arrangement of the song I've ever heard. Female voice perfect for the song. Guitar and mandolin excellent as well. Impressive Portuguese.
Dude, your portugues is great!!! I’m a Brazilian musician, and I live in South Florida since 2015. Thank you so very much for this tribute. Amazing job!!! You both have some Brazilian feelings for sure!!! That was beautiful!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🇺🇸🇧🇷
This song requires enormous restraint, groove, finesse and delicacy. You two have it in spades! The mandolin fits great, especially the way you play it. It doesn't lose its Brazilian sound (or sound like "bluegrass" LOL). Excellent... truly excellent. Larkin... that voice... wow oh wow. It takes a very special kind of voice to sing this song. She sounds like she's swayin' down the beach when she sings this. SUPERB.
Superb interpretation of "The Girl from Ipanema," one of the songs of the world. The authors, Vinicius de Moraes (lyrics) and Antonio Carlos Jobim (music), would be proud of you. Congratulations.
I enjoy returning to Josh’s music that I loved 10 years ago and find that I love it just as much today. Larkin was so good, I wonder how she is doing today.
I'm Brazilian and this song here is a classic. So it is not anyone who makes a good interpretation of it. And yours was perfect, both in the arrangement and in the vocals. Congratulations!
Fantastic job Josh and Larkin! As a Brazilian it is so nice to hear your nice voices singing a music that is loved by all people here and also abroad! Waiting for your visit here in Brazil, maybe starting by our wonderful Ipanema :-)
I am Brazilian and three days ago we received the sad news of the death of Astrud Gilberto. Today I opened RUclips and saw this song that made her known all over the world, in the wonderful interpretation of Larkin Dodgen. What a wonderful voice, girl. Congratulations to both.
I was surfing in Peru and ran into several surfers from Brazil. I used a beat up "traveling" guitar that they brought on the trip and I played The Girl From Ipanema for them - they all sang and we had a blast. This is a tough song to play and sing, but you both did a fantastic job - Bravo!!
It's been over two years ever since I watched it for the first time... and I crept back just for it once again. This is the kind of performance that you would play at school, at uni, or a hostel, might not be at a national concert hall, but it sounds so warm and lots of fun... in playing the instruments :)
I've been seeing a Japanese guy on Facebook who is obviously singing phonetically but his playing captures the feel of acoustic country blues better than most Americans. Ryuchi Ding Yamazaka.
I bet João and Astrud would approve. So nice to see this unique music tastefully done in great style by young musicians. Gorgeous playing, beautiful singing -- and the mandolin is an excellent touch! My day is made.
It warms my heart to see young people playing the great Jobim. Nice to see it sung as in the original with the Portuguese and English counterpoint. Larkin Dodgen does an excellent job. Her voice is my favorite kind of female jazz voice. Great job.
I hope you two do more Jobim . This was great. I was 16 when this came out and had never heard Bossa Nova and fell in love with it. I went out and got Jobim's "The Composer Plays" and listen'd to it while I was going to sleep every night for a long time. I think I'll find it and listen to it tonight. Magical and beautiful music ! Thanks guy's. Jobim dreams.
Enzo Franco All these clever people out here in cyberspace ! Bossa nova is a type of jazz like bee bop, acid, free form, swing ect. Now can you do a harmonic analysis of the the bridge of Girl From Ipanema or Desafinado , bro. ?
Brazilian Boy You're mistaken. Bossa Nova is a form of Jazz from Brazil. No music is in a category all its own. Hardly "an offense to all Brazilians"!!
I just watched about 20 of Josh’s videos. I’m a big fan. Larkin’s voice is extraordinary. A lot of singers, especially young girls, overpower the band trying to show off, but she is just like another instrument in harmony with everything else that’s going on.
Of course Josh oozes with talent. That’s for sure. He has a string of female singers that has appeared on video with him but this girl is my favorite. I absolutely love her voice.
Beautiful, amazing. I loved the whole performance. Such a sultry voice, I loved her singing. What a great song. Keep on with your singing, and performing. The guitarist are absolutely great
Josh - sings in English, Japanese, French, Spanish and other languages? This guy is amazing. Very nice version. Additional trackes on bass, mandolin, guitar & percussion. Well done.
I'm an old guy who just subscribed to this channel. Josh, you and your friends continue to amaze. And this young lady is what we call 'a real natural'. Wonderful. Thank you both....
This song transcends generations. For example, I was probably a newborn when it was a hit, but I remember it always being "on", somewhere from the time I was maybe 6 years old.. Nice to see a couple of generations later you are still into it.
My god Josh just stunning man, stunning, i can smell the rum and coconut lotion, just about feel the heat and humidity…my folks were into boss a nova in the sixties when i was a kid…great memories.
Just amazing! I had to play this several times and have now come to the conclusion that I don't want it to end it's just so beautiful. Both your voices are so wonderful and match the song exactly. Thank you so much for this! -buddy
Josh, fabulous! As a Yankee guitar player living in Brazil for more than 65 years I congratulate you for your performance. Perfect Portuguese without the "gringo accent" ! Fan-(me)-tastic!
Wau !!! You are so courageous, I am Brazilian and you are very very nice singers and players, American people are so wonderful in music, congratulations !!!

Great, great rendition! Larkin's vocals are as soft as a kitten. My Brazilian neighbors tell me this is the unofficial national anthem in Brazil. Excellent job, Josh!
Wow, this is a very difficult song to sing, watch others try to cover it and it is rarely done this nice. Larkin has such an incredible voice, I'm sure will get better as time goes on. Josh, what a talent, has an incredible sense of rhythm and presence, talent way beyond his years. He must practice couple of hours a day, more than most people realise. Can't wait to hear from these two. Can't think of a cover I like better than this.
Eat your heart out, Astrud Gilberto. Remarkable talents, both of you! Listening to this for the umpteenth time. It never gets old. I bow to your exceptional rendition of a classic. Never, ever stop.
I've heard it too much where the player doesn't embrace the bossa nova nearly enough (if you can call it that anymore with it not being new anymore) I love it when someone plays it with all of the "finger and thumb percussion" so to speak, it adds so little to someone who isn't looking for it but for that reason it adds 10 times more for someone who is, very well done.
Wow. Just wow. I didn't think you would even attempt the original Portuguese lyrics, but according to the folks in the comments who speak Portuguese, you nailed it. I wouldn't have the guts or the linguistic skills to even try. Your English version was lovely too. Well done!
My wife and I were in a coffee shop in Arizona last week when we heard "The Girl From Ipanema" come on. She looked at me and I said, "Man, I love this song." She said, "Is that Josh?" I listened for a second and said, "Yeah!" Then Larkin came in and I said, "That's Larkin. This is the same version I have on my phone!" I just hope they paid for it. :D
This is one of my all time favorite song and am very hard on review on covers. But I am speechless in front of such talents. Smooth, nice and gentle like the original, the girl's voice blew me out, the tempo, the added mandolin to top it all. Best interpretation ever and the composers have to be proud of you for this. Thanks for sharing and best regards from Canada. My note shall then be 12/10... needless to say how much I enjoyed listening five times in a row your work with this great classic song.
Como diria o nosso grande poeta Toquinho: que maravilha!!! Pena q a grande maioria dos nossos aqui no Brasil não apreciem a musica de qualidade! Josh você é espetacular! Parabéns garoto!
I love this music, and this is a great cover. I would love it if you did other Bossa Nova standards like Chege de Saudade, Desfinado and Aquarela do Brasil.
I'm from Brazil, and so proud to other nations appreciate our culture! Big hug!
somos meu amigo !
A beautiful song. Mas que nada is another amazing song from Brasil !
Me too! But is there another guitar playing with the Bossa Nova beating, right?

Can't help but agree... Idk about you, but most of Brazilian music sounds so very empty when played in one instrument only. It doesn't matter how much you try, be it bossa, sertanejo or whatever.
Newton Maciel Junior That almost certainly was Josh playing on both guitar tracks.
The young lady approaches the number -- at the absolute outset -- with a swing phrasing sensitivity as if she's been singing this song for 40 years. Textbook perfection.
OK, everyone knows Josh is a musical freaking genius but Larkin's voice was simply angelic! Swept me away to another time and place. Job well done!
*James Kuri* -- There are several videos on YT of Josh and Larkin -- some of the finest, too. See "Just Like Heaven" for sure!
Yeah at Ipanema when time was at reverie
he needs a beard and tatoos...😂
Que honra para nós brasileiros um talento como o seu cantando em português. Fantástico. Bossa Nova. João Gilberto e Tom Jobim e Vinicius.
Yeah, ... what he said!

GaryDX25 His voice is on point as well! Good performance by both vocalists!
GaryDX25 I absolutely agreed.
GaryDX25 s
Its nice but she avacaidos it......
It wouldn't have surprised me at all if Josh picked up a sax and played the Stan Getz part.
True!
;-)
He did play indeed the stan getz part and nailed every note.
Wouldn’t surprise me.

Congratulations for play this type music, I have rarely seen young playing this style of music, continue playing this beautiful music......
OK...so you play every instrument, every style, AND you sing in Portuguese. Unreal.

What's to be forgiven? Your Portuguese was "perfeito". This cover was excellent. "Bellissimo!" The both of you did Brasil proud.
Far from perfect

How can he tell her he loves her
Yes, he would give his heart gladly
But each day when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead not at him
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl, from ipanema goes walking and
When she passes, he smiles, but she doesn’t see
Fantastic. Josh, you brought me here, but the woman singing is perfect. Sweet...breathy....perfect
I am really enjoying your music. The way you’re collaborating with the other artists is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
wow.. I see this video more than 10 years when has been published...all of you guys are amazing! Big respect!
Excellent cover. The girl has a kinda nora Jones sound
In my humble opinion Josh you and your very talented mates provide us mere mortals with the best sounds on the internet !
Her voice is so beautiful...congrats... Ese tema me gusta a morir!
Such awesome young talent!!
Very cool!! A boa música brasileira está em todo lugar!!!
An amazing duo, both guitar an voice. And in Portuguese to boot!
when he started to sing in portuguese my heart just stopped. men you're incredible, i didn't know you had a cover of this song!

Good job, dude!
As well as the pronunciation.
Cheers from Brazil!
