I owned all these pedals in the 90s and can honestly say they are all absolutely brilliant. The shred master is well under rated

My live rig from 1990-1997 was a Crybaby into a late-'80s Guv'Nor into a JCM 800. Even after I went to a rack-mounted JMP-1 Midi rig, the JCM/Guv'Nor was my backup...and it had to come save the day on more than one show when the power amp in the rack setup acted wonky. The pots and jacks don't have a great reputation but as for mine it's got hundreds of shows on it getting stumbled over, drinks splashed on it, and so on. I always ran it on a 9V battery and the poor thing was transported along with my cables, guitar stand(s) and other gear in a plastic milk crate. Other than having the jacks replaced recently because the plastic internal collars of one of the originals went missing, it's still going strong and is my all-time favorite drive pedal. Back in '89-'90 I must've tried everything on the market and to this day having accumulated a cabinet of drive pedals of all sorts, nothing comes close to the feel under the fingers in my book. Nice to see they're back.

I had a Drivemaster in the 90’s and I just got a new Guv’nor. They are different pedals. The Drivemaster was compressed and lacked dynamics and sustain. The Guv’nor reissue is just phenomenal! Rich in harmonics, powerful, balanced mids, dynamic and compressed at the same time. It works perfectly on Vox, Marshall, Friedman etc... I have no opinion on the Shredmaster because I haven't tried it. but for me the Guv’nor is above the Drivemaster.

    Cool video.
    I remember these pedals.
    I graduated HS in 1988.
I did have a Washburn Stack in a Box that was released in 1986 two years before Marshall put these out.

I'm lucky enough to own 3 of these original pedals, just need to get vintage drivemaster still. This review is amazing and proof that marshall is listening and still looks after us customers. Well done Jack, well done Marshall.

Ive got an original Drive Master. Bought it on eBay about 2 years ago from British Heart Foundation for about £65 and it never worked properly. Got it out the cupboard yesterday, took it to my guitar tutor who took it apart, gave it a good clean and now its perfect. Really great sound.

The overtones on the Shredmaster are mental! Not my prefered tone for playing but man, one of the most harmonically rich sounds I’ve ever heard.

The Shredmaster is probably the best medium drive circuit ever created, and don’t be fooled by its name, it’s not a “shredder” pedal! At the same time, the Bluesbreaker is the best light drive I ever played!

Great Review and fabulous sounding pedals. The other great thing you should be aware of is that Marshall are stocking the components so I have now been able to replace the jack sockets on my old guvnor with parts from these reissues. Parts were impossible to find before Thanks Marshall…Contact Marshall Parts department and they are happy to sort you out.

When you loose the Guv'nor to the floor the pot.controls easily break. I have one with a broken treble-knob on full. Annoying. You can see the tone-controls are protected on the three newer pedals.

it depends on what you look for : with a big good pedalboard : not useful
to have some more for an amp : treble boost, tube treble boost, ts9 (I don 't like that), booster, etc.
for me I don't need these pedals or maybe just one but I have some pedals to sound Marshall so ?
    some more ? not really

It’s too bad they priced these so high. Absolutely zero reason for these to be $340 after taxes here in Canada.
