When the USB source is switched to "2-Track", where is the audio coming from? The "2-Track" sockets are OUTPUTS, not sources. Do they mean 3/4? If so, why isn't it labelled that way?
The Mackie Big Knob Studio and Big Knob Studio+ documentation is being corrected. Both are capable of recording up to 192😀 They cannot be used in conjunction with other sound cards because there is no sync option or word clock on the Big Knob Series.
Hello! Just heard back from Mackie and confirmed with my review unit that in fact the unit can record up to 192kHz. Some of the units went out with packaging that was incorrect apparently, so some sources say 96kHz -- when in fact it is 192.
If you want to use an external mic, i.e. for voice overs, youtube videos etc, and dont want to buy a separate audio interface, this option is better than the Presonus Monitor v2, there saved you a bunch of searching =]
Side chain? At the volume he sets the music that definitely would give some people a headache. A simple fade to a lower volume when he start speaking would seem more pro.
Nice review, man. Can't seem to find an answer to this-- can you record inputs 1, 2, and the source 3/4 inputs all at the same time, on different channels in your DAW? So in essence, the Big Knob Studio is a 4-input interface, right? Also, how's the latency when controlling virtual instruments? Say, at 44.1, 24-bit, and 128 or 64 as the buffer? Thanks!
Can you use this standalone, simply plugging in the power and not using the USB cable? I just want to use it like a classic big knob, mainly for talkback and headphone control while recording in an apogee interface
Can this be hooked up to a focusrite 18i20 interface? I have that and the focusrite octopre. I want to be able to switch between two monitors on the fly.
Hello, thanks for the review. How does the Mackie Big Knob Studio perform in latency terms within a DAW comparing with other audio interfaces in his price range? Is it really good to work with it mainly as audio interface for music production made mostly with virtual instruments / plugins in the DAW? Thank you, greetings to all
All Things Gear hi can i know how to connect this mackie big knob studio to FL studio or daw? Where do i download the mackie big knob software to allow this to AI to be connected to my computer and into to my daw? Please help!
Can someone please explain why you would want to have input preamps in a monitor manager? Wouldn’t that add gain at the end of the signal of your mix? I’m baffled.
Thanks for the review. I'm still at a quandary between focusrite preamp and mackie onyx preamp in the big knob. thinking about getting the mackie big knob. So who thinks that is a good ideas?
Which one did you finally go for? I just wanna be sure that mackie big knob will perform the functions of mackie onyx audio interface too along with being a monitor controller right?
@@ayushijainmusic3450 I got the Mackie big knob studio. It's in use for 2 yrs now, no complaints. The audio interface works well and it stands up well next to other interfaces I have used.
2 questions; 1) does the usb cause an additional noise / interference? 2) I've had 3-4 big knobs die on me in my career, they seem to last a year and the wiring goes. How is now?
Sweetwater has a review for the Big Knob Passive that says the unit sucks about 7-8 dB out of the headroom. Is this also true for the Big Knob Studio? You guys should review the ART SCC Studio Control Center which is a similar unit.
Hi Mike. Sorry for the delayed response here. We're actually reviewing the Big Knob Passive now and I have to say I don't agree with that review. Sure, powered monitor control units (like the Big Knob Studio) will give you a little more headroom because there are more gain stages, but that's not the same thing as the Passive sucking out headroom. Between plugging our source directly into our monitors and going through the Big Knob Passive there was little to no difference.
Is monitor2usb or control2usb similar to this? Can these devices from Behringer also be used as audio interface for recording or is this the only device on the market of this kind that can do that?
Yeah... I contemplated taking it back for that very reason. Had it going on a month now. It gets hot like an amplifier for some reason. I thought perhaps the case was being used as an heat-sink, but there is nothing being sinked. I like it- but I'm not too confident on the engineering! I read in a forum that a guy got a response from Mackie that it's normal.
I wish someone would do a long-time-use review. Had mine for 18 months now, and the push buttons are failing, they now feel mushy to press, and won't stay pressed/lit. I have to press them 5-10 times with varying force/torque to get them to stay pressed. Quality leaves something to be desired.
This is not a review. This is a poorly produced promotion for an amazon account. The mackie units have had severe audio problems from day one, years ago. Presonus, even Behringer have solutions on offer that are far superior.
@@Jellybeantiger Since I paid to have it repaired by my local mackie recognised warranty repairers its been going strong since. It was the usb board that became faulty. The reality is they are made cheap but if you get a few years out of it for the price and functionality they arent that bad I guess.
music too loud... SKIP
@Mario One and a half minutes of sonic, on-hold music torture.
All Things Gear never listen
womp womp
Your background sounds great but much too loud! I could hardly understand what you were talking at the beginning!

you could use aggregate device in Mac osx, i've synchronized it with the Duet 2 ipad mac, if that's what u were referring to?

Music is too loud on my phone in the beginning. Why didn't you side chain a compressor to your voice on the music track?
Completely agree - I'm using a desktop PC into Sennheiser HD4.30 headphones : thankfully the music doesnt last for the entire vid.

I am wondering as well. Did you find out???
Out of all the videos this one finally answered my questions quick and straight forward. Ill buy from the affiliate link thanks

I had issues with the old one, got this one and getting it tomorrow, hope they have fixed the internals on this one

If I am correct the Begringer devices do not have Mic inputs or phantom power.
Had to return it the software will not work on Mac
Nice channel and just the review I was looking for!
Good job man 👍🏻
Did you have any phase issues with the big knob?
how do you hook up with Focusrite 18i8 ? thanks
can i use it as an audio interface for listening music/recording vocals/mixing via usb?
Yes
Great video but the back ground music is little bit load
does your unit get hot? mine does specially the knob

С’mon! You are reviewing a digital sound interface, and are not able to mix the sound tracks for the review right! It’s a tad ridiculous!

Mine is now faulty after 13 months. Now out of warranty! I'm pissed! Cant recommend!
My Soundcraft Compact 4 mixer ,solid after 12 years, pretty much powered on all the time. Was thinking of this to replace it and use it for an Emu1212m.

heating problem.... so bad product :(
Nice
I found this vague and uninformative. I could have read the product description on any site and got this info. Was looking for a user review.
The name does make me laugh though, could they not have called it the “Dial” series or something.. lol.
Yo, did you really go get some scissors to open a plastic bag?😂🤣😂🤣
Reading from the data spec sheet - yawn
What DAW will this not work with?
any daw, u'll be fine
Schmirk .Pictures Thank you.
Whoever does your post audio for this needs to be fired
why do you say "we"? you are one person
Thanks for the question! I personally am one person, but I represent a group of people that make up the All Things Gear team.
Jesus Christ.
Maybe use your new controller to hear what a fucked up mix sounds like.
That background music is annoying 🤮
Thats a BIG KNOB
LOL Big Knob what a stupid name
