    As good as the Eurostar is, the REAL "star" of this video is the HST. She's our TGV.

    I think the ECML definitely boast some of the country's most handsome trains of this age. Just a shame the Eurostar's don't run on it anymore.

    I remember the first time I saw a GNER eurostar was when I was 10 back in 2000 at my local station New Barnet. My mum and I went to New Barnet station to enjoy train action and when I saw a northbound GNER eurostar I was so shocked and surprised I shitted myself! Such memories that will never fade.

    Loved the GNER livery! I like the VETC livery as well (much better than the former grey East Coast livery) but it wasn't the same when GNER got taken over by national express!

    Great video. Nice to see the HST with its original light cluster design....far better than the newer LED circular design.

      I like the original lights too, although the newer LEDs give her a more fresher look that doesn't spoil Kenneth Grange's iconic design which after 40+ years stills looks better than most newer trains especially the bug eyed Voyager.

    With Eurostar bidding for the ECML after British Rail (aka - East Coast) leave AGAIN! Hopefully they will make up for this by getting rid of class 91's and replacing them with the Eurostar fleet. (the new eurostar E-320 stock will take over channel tunnel runs) and then the 91's can work with class 90 stock on the GEML

    @EqualityScotland I always thought the GNER livery was fabulous not just on the 225 and HST sets but also really suited the 373s - I also loved the seemingly effortless way they glided along on their articulated bogies, and that so distinctive sound of the 373 hum

  • @Antthecool1
    @Antthecool1 12 лет назад

    @Death783 They were on load to GNER while the class 91 sets were being referbished. Once the 225s were referbushed the eurostars weren't needed.

    @Death783 was was end of the lease - they were hired in originally to support the Kings Cross - Leeds services. I guess they were no longer required so lease not renewed and probably to avoid the on-going costs of maintaining 'non-standard' equipment against the fleet of HST and 225 sets

    its power supply problems that caused the lower speeds on the eurostars. They drank too much electricity and could trip the section out. i still dont know why they didnt go for 90s and mk3 stock tho.

      They were only allowed to do 110 MPH on the ECML because they would drain to much power from the centenary if they were to go over 110 MPH on the ECML .

    why did GNER have a eurostar?

    • @ethancampbell6076
      @ethancampbell6076 7 лет назад +7

      Here is an Story about it:
      Five of the North of London sets were leased to GNER in 2000 to operate services from London King's Cross to York and later Leeds under the White Rose brand. Two operated in debranded Eurostar livery, while three sets were covered in GNER deep-navy vinyl wraps. On rare occasions, sets were formed of a GNER and an unbranded Eurostar halfset. The lease concluded in December 2005 and they were returned to Eurostar. The doors of the first and last coach were locked out of use, as the units were too long for intermediate station platforms; use of the coaches was permitted. On the East Coast Main Line they are restricted to 110 mph (177 km/h), shown by blue "TGV" signs next to the tracks, or required to only use a single pantograph.
