The 2024 Subaru WRX TR is an interesting car. The WRX TR is super easy to live with, satisfying to drive, and spacious enough for our tall family, but the problem with the Subaru WRX is that it competes against cars that are more rewarding in one or several areas, especially for the price. At more than $43k, the Subaru WRX TR isn't cheap, and that puts the WRX dangerously close to the Honda Civic Type R and Golf R, not to mention the cheaper VW Golf GTI and Hyundai Elantra N. The Subaru WRX TR isn't hard core enough to match wits with the Civic Type R and Integra Type S, but it's also too expensive to be sought after above the Elantra N.... which is also more hard core. If you REALLY like Subaru WRX style and performance, you won't be disappointed, but for people looking for an STI successor or Civic Type R fighter, you might be disappointed. Don't get us wrong, though, the Subaru WRX TR is VERY satisfying to live with as a daily, and that comfort and practicality might be enough to sway people with our needs.

If we get our hands on one, for sure. However, if you watch the Subaru Ascent review (and we have the 2025 Subaru Forester currently), you'll find that she doesn't mind CVTs at all. She would likely enjoy the performance of the WRX with a CVT that simulates shifts, but for me... well, I couldn't do it in a performance vehicle even though I don't mind them all that much in family vehicles. People who rage about them are WAY over exaggerating the complaints.

Would’ve been more appropriate to say over the gr corolla vs a civic type r in my opinion.

I think either one, but the most direct comparison in price and size is probably the Hyundai Elantra N. I think AWD vs FWD ends up being academic for most people who but these types of cars, and truth be told, they probably lack the skill level to notice a difference in performance driving (Type R is fastest anyway).

Both are great cars. But if you want bang for your buck and bang on all weather and terrain then you know nothing comes close to WRX.
