Yeah, with it feeling serious, with a theme, and good mixups of tower, but it was also quirky, with the upgrades, the simplicity of old Roblox, and not at all serious, with u being able to do so much more combos than now, and everything being viable for anywhere like ranger, being viable for just about anywhere besides some places without cliffs.

I joined around July of 2019. I've been in the TDS community for a quite a while.
While I don't hate the monetization, I do agree that the crates are a bit too pricy & grindy.
My only real problem is the lack of unique skins. Wraith Minigunner, Partisan Outlaw, Redemption/Golden & Kasodus Cowboy, where all skins that felt like care was put into them instead of just being another number in the pile of skins.
We have been seeing more unique skins be added to the game, which is nice. But I still want to see the old ones be remade into something more akin to their original designs.
yeah i really agree with the skins, the game just lost so much of its old "school project" charm and is aimed more towards money making now. its not a bad game necessarily, just lost a lot of the goofiness and less care that made it a lot more interesting and fun to play.
TDS now is more of a brand than a game given what they've been doing. I wouldn't be surprised if TDS one day gets a crappy official animated series or something. I mean, props on the dev team for being able to somehow take a school project with stolen ideas into a money-making machine but damn

I think which I love more about old tds is the old balances for towers

I've been along the ride since Koneko made a video about it (2019), and as much as I look back on what was in the past before, I also enjoy the scale of these massive updates, even if I don't get to play as much anymore, due to being pushed away by both new and old players, atm I've moved onto Tower Heroes atm for their Doors collab, and I appreciate the relatively welcoming environment it has compared to TDS. In the end of the day, I really just wish to have fun with games like these, man.

I’d say this is the same thing that happened with Fortnite. The game kept getting regular updates and slowly improving in quality, but at the same time losing its charm. It feels like it doesn’t have a personality anymore. I feel the same about tds, higher quality but lost what made it special.
Yes, something is a bit fishy in the TDS, but hopefully it will recover on that "big update" they are promising. Hopefully. It is sad to see what became from the TDS to be honest.

I might be a bit late since I just got back to TDS after quitting after the sledger event but I joined TDS during the late 2019 winter event to like everyone else 2020 easter update. And I do agree with Eggcrypted about the devs and the community making the game more fun. But for me and some people, I mainly agree with the community part since if you compare the old community with today's community it feels less connected because of how much everyone focuses on gamemodes/towers (which is not bad). Meanwhile for 2020 specifically, everyone was more focused on doing random stuff that was more focused around fun than grindy. for example, if you look at justharrison specifically it was based around ____ towers only or medic only or something like that. This kept driving me back to old TDS because the community back then felt more of a community/a place to talk than how it is now; A place to get a group to grind for a tower like engi/accel/brawler which isn't a bad thing necessarily. (just my opinion as an old late 2019-2020 TDS player)

Yo propellars, i too joined tds in easter 2020 (eah bcuz of eagg) and i too think that it was better, btw roblox easter 2020 was a vibing season, and im have a nostalgic about it.

i still remember me in summer 2019 starting up tds and playing a couple golden rounds and then quitting because my laptop was overheating , good times.
As though for me i started about long ago as well i think when their was the older Halloween event. The one where you couls get slasher, i missed it cuz my lvl, beatly knew what to do.
Joined around 2019 and came back to tds after a year or more of not playing it. I think the best part about old tds was definitely its more ambitious updates and more dated graphics and gameplay. I remember in the christmas update of 2019 the only thing i grinded wasn't the archer tower or anything else but it was for the lazy couch emote which i enjoyed using all the time, and also getting my first golden tower around the christmas update as well. It is awesome to see stuff added that wasn't in the more dated days of tds like the golden affect feature, matchmaking, unique events and alot more, but the price of that unfortunately was the spirit of the old game. But its still great to see tds strive after all these years of development.
Unfortunately for me though as i lost access to my account that had these memories and had to switch to another account which made me start over
so i discovered someone recreated 2020 tds today, and im just gonna say that i had more fun grinding it today than i ever did playing tds in the past 7 months
Have played TDS since H19, i remember spamming outlaws and gold minis in winter 2019 event and using holiday archer to carry people in spring 2020

I played this game since late 2019, I remember me and the boys doing lots of funny things. We found out how fallen easy was back then, cowboy was easy to get (two molten bosses only), glitching out of the boundaries and stepping on literal air and reseting makes you unable to sprint back then (funny yes I know). We would also just have a good time watching the outlaws just spamming purple lasers into the zombie's face and unlocking platinum crates (removed now)... What great times.
I started playing around the gladiator event, I don't remember how I managed to beat it but I did, and the game was one of my most played games. I didn't progress much cuz I was so young, but it was an amazing game, also I had gladiator, which was cool.
now I started playing again, and although its fun, I much rather the game having low quality with more frequent updates, cuz right now I have only 2 things to do in the game, get golden crates or get engineer, which are both things I don't want to do, the game lacks in game modes, probably because they keep deleting stuff like golden and pvp, theres almost nothing to do than just beat the game on different maps because of the lack of events, I expected an easter or valentines update but there wasn't any, and now I just don't play the game much anymore. its sad honestly.
I also hate how I lost my Old account and now I don't have gladiator
Personally I like nowadays TDS then old TDS. The updates are slower then before, Golden mode and Hidden Wave are deleted, Tower strats are uncreative then used to, They selling overpriced merch. that's maybe true. But they remake Polluted Wasteland and Badland into a completely New and challenging Game mode then just go to the map and pick fallen mode, They added new Pizza Party mode for coin grind, Solar Eclipse event had a four different games in one mode and fighting against Umbra was new and special. Duck Hunt had a ducks coming from every where and endless wave + Ducky D00m was remade perfectly. Towers are got smoother and better animation and appearance.
But old TDS did better at skins like giving them a different weapons and stuffs, balancing towers.
Noting offensive, Just my opinion. Hope they become more user-friendly and listen to community for what they add in future and add stuffs they have been promised to us such as Freezer Rework. Hope TDS become grow and grow to be a better game.
the thing i miss about old tds are the old icons, parrot party, and when archer was like fallen meta
the guy who would sell and replace enforcer,the guy who would chain john,the guy who would chain commander, the guy who would chain freezers ability and placing mortar’s before templar and the summoners is something you just cant recreate in new tds

Even if abilities of John/Militant, Enforcer/Shotgunner, Freezer existed today, you still wouldn't have effect guy described above even in Old TDS games. It is often to see in Old TDS games people more talk about how great old TDS was and how garbage new is, but completely forgetting about using abilities they miss so much.
2 years passed and i miss 2020 tds, where updates are delayed and still fun
For me for why old TDS was better was because in new TDS they removed so many features and just forgot about a lot of towers. PVP was removed, platinum crates were removed, towers just not getting the love they deserve like freezer or any other event tower like slasher. It's just back then I think the devs listened to the community more and I miss that. Now it's harder to listen to the community since its filled with 9 year old's wanting the devs to worship them. Old TDS more rewarding and you could actually just have fun with friends instead of grinding your days away for some tower or spending irl money just to get a tower that does a bit more damage, you can still have fun but it doesn't capture the old charm old TDS back then.
In my opinion i miss old Tower Delay Simulator because new TDS is too laggy for my phone because theyre overdetailed.
I left during the razor collab because my old acc that has 2 of the best golden (back then) cant be used because of 2 step vertification

I have ben playing tds since 2019 but i can say that the only reason i like the older game is because i have some good memories on the older game but the latest update is just way better game then back then
this just reminded me how i started playing about 4 years ago, damn. Sadly while i did play when pvp existed for months, I didn't try it enough, since of course at the time i never expected it to get removed
I reallllly don’t like how they took an even more “kid-friendly” and cringy approach to the designs as of late, intermediates final boss looks goofy as hell and so do most bosses. As someone who started in 2019 I would say that the game felt more alive and active along with the addition of actual care put into the game.

Not saying that the older stage of tds is bad, but I think players were constantly being blinded by nostalgia and only remember the good things of old tds, both the new and old stages of tds have their own flaws, no game can be exactly perfect. I joined a while before the overhaul update was released and i gotta say I do think the pre-overhaul game seems more appealing to me. But tds has to evolve with advanced game graphics/ mechanics to appeal more to the newer generation of players, staying in its old style could result in less new players.
It also triggers me how players always cry about how they missed old tds when they joined in like duck hunt (very og)

The easiest way to fix hardcore grinding 💎💎💎: Randomize the level
(What I mean is instead of having the same waves, same enemies, same towers, same everything, randomize the enemies each level (MAKE SURE THEY ARE BALANCED TOGETHER) and maybe like randomize tower limits or something (ALSO BALANCED TOGETHER)

You’re not looking back far enough, mid 2019 was where it was at, on my only account I had commando shredder and swarmer. But I had no idea tds got that many players BEFORE the hardcore and mega updates, I thought it’d only peak at a few thousand.
i started playing tds in halloween 2020 then i quit but i came back but i honestly think that old tds is better altough it didnt have so much detail than nowdays honestly there was like a bit of detail now that i think about it but its sitll a great game and devs try their best to do anything to help increase its games numbers

If y’all miss it so much just play Ts legacy, it’s exactly like the old one and they still update tds legacy they still add events and stuff so make sure to check it out, on average the game has 300+ it’s not that popular but for a tower defense game it’s doing alright

I remember it very clearly, that I was hurt by the fact that they remodelled the old towers like they never existed and changed everything about them, like John or Policeman. In like 2018-19 I remember me and my friend used to play with tactic of John and Commander cuz of buffs (John, now militant used to fire crazy fast and had a damage buff) and then minigun, and we had so much fun. Now the game is fun too, but it can’t compare to what it used to be, it got more….. boring. Also I can’t forget, that when they changed the map for the first time, they deleted an easter egg, which was behind the spawn on the island. 5 or 6 sheep from cartoon were standing on top of each other
i honestly remember failing A LOT on the sword fight event then i just forgot about the game in 2020, which is why i have no event towers.

I remember the old times when there was the first event towers like gladiator and commando well i actually just get the commando but he is still my fav tower and i really want a rework for him because he can have a lot of potential, well i know do a rework for a tower that almost no one have is actually not the priority for the devs actually makes me sad i know he is not a priority but i still want he rework
I start play this game be4 glad event came. It was pretty normal and nothing really special about it. I grind for minigunner then stop play the game until glad event came. Pretty sure golden tower havent exist yet. And when golden skin release, they are so useless that it just a waste by golden crate, they didnt even have a buff until they decide to make them get some buff (gscout used to be op af). Archer aka holiday archer used to be the best tower for early game tower, it pierce and deal so much damage for a cheap cost, viable in hidden game. I used to love it so much that i have archer in every single loadout for solo. Still sad that they kill archer.

Well guys, as a guy who started playing TDS since mid 2019, I definitely say that old tds was better, not like 2020 yeah it was great but well, I really like 2022 like we got a lot of new content, new modes, new towers, new Phoqus’ bangers. And in 2023 uhh we got literally *nothing* interesting, *nothing*. Yeah we got eh, community maps, some skins and… that’s it? Well, yeah.
Oh ye, these “big updates” that devs are promising I hope won’t be these QoL updates like they’re sooo boring. Better be at least a new tower (not redesign) and well, new mode, like bruh, they promised “chaos” mode, hacker tower, war machine, mecha base, pvp and i guess lots of some features that i forgot.
But we all know that we prob get some skins and maybe new community maps? Uh never mind, I hope devs will make something special.

tbh, the most stat changed was probably rockeeter. When rockeeter came out at July 2019, it had a a FLAT range of 23 and a explosion range of 20 without the linear damage decrease. its dps is like a og minigunner aka 60~dps. Now its literally so different cuz the difference in stats, especially the extreme dps decrease(remember the og HAD A EXPLOSION RANGE OF 20 COMPARED TO THE NOW 12 EXPLOSION RANGE AND A RANGE OF 23 WITHOUT DEADRANGE VS THE NOW 28 RANGE WITH DEADZONE 12) and werid range of deadzone.
honestly, this is why flamethrower is meta cuz its range is akind small but the slow and aoe pierce without that stuipid linear damage decrease is worth it. and dont even start with all the freezing related towers or archer, literially a lost cause cuz the devs are ignore us and focusing on engineer, accel, cowboy, mini, ranger/outlaw. They add hidden detection on rockeeter but lets be honest, the rockeeter in 2019 without hidden detection was actually better even without a hidden detection cuz its massive range and its felt good when the explosion hit the hiddens too, possibly might even feeling the hidden detection was a disguise to nerf it with the disguise of exchange buff of adding hidden detection and more base range(range 28 now) with deadzone of 12.
the devs say its a balancing but... tbh they are just nerfing the tower to make them feel even werider than there original 2019 and they focus on more the towers are fimilar with like engineer, accel, ranger, mini, flamethower. shotgun with god piercing? added linear damage reduction so its not that good aoe with crowds anymore. archer? trash damage and its more expensive now. Final note, tds update feel slow af, but im not that concerned with that cuz they have their own personal life ig. apart of the adding alot of merch and robux passes, that increase the coins to buy minigun by 100% like by 2,500 to 5,000 in October 2020 so you start to see the devs making players grind the game even more for 'playable towers' that is not 'balanced' under a disguise. so in conclusion? i dont play it anymore cuz its too grindy and all my favorite tower are destroyed... wait did I say destroyed, i mean rebalanced. maybe other like the rebalancing or the new changes but for me, its too much bs. i literially dont enjoy playing tds anymore.

As much as I missed 2020 TDS, I do appreciate the progress the game had gone through over time. Though I'll admit the older redemption cowboy that I still treasure to this day did have a better design.

As someone who has been playing since June 18th 2019 I can understand a lot more, and I definitely agree, one of the main things people don't like is just how some towers get nerfed to complete hell, for exple let's take on freezer, really useful tower to beat gamemodes with a really good ability, we also had John tower which is probably one of the most iconic towers in the game just completly changed, also outlaw, yeah we can all agree ranger is still an amazing tower mostly for strats and gamemodes, but then the outlaw just came in so much more helpful dealing good dmg at an alr firerate with splash dmg, and something I always encounter is people tlaking about the OG music from not only the lobby but events and stuff (I talk about this myself all the time aswell cuz god these slapped hard) and just constant updates.
thats a fake og if i ever seen one. reason? Outlaw fucking sucked at that time. 90 dps for 50k

(my opinion) Old tds is definitely better cuz towers were actually good and not complete garbage. The only thing holding it back is graphics but besides that, i'd say that everything is ok and pretty good. (Also rip ur money lol)
