Honda Rebel 500 2021 - To liberate the turn switch cable from the bike required these additional steps; 1) Remove gas tank; 2) Completely remove head light assembly (different than shown in the video); 3) Remove speedometer assembly; 4) Remove 4 bolts holding handlebars. This allows the cable to be slipped out of the bike. For this install to work and for the wiring to be done with the cable off the bike, it will require that the crimped connectors are used as the ST2 module will NOT slip back into the internals of the bike where the cable connects to the bikes harness. Turn signal switch is also different than shown in the video, but easily figured out.
My old virago 535 had self cancelling indicters and that was back in 1990 , it’s odd the rebel 500 didn’t have it from factory, but then it’s good practice to cancel them bye pressing in the indicter switch , as the self cancelling indicators are set to cancel a bit to late for my liking , so bye pushing in the button is best I think , I am getting a twin one pice seat for my rebel 500 , then hoping this will make my ride better for my disability, them red dragon forward controls I fitted last time I commented on your channel are great, thanks for all your clips on RUclips.
Yeah it’s shocking most bikes today don’t have self canceling signals… this kit was done on an old friends bike. For those that wish to have the self cancel option, this kits works well enough. Yet, Like you I am more original… tap that signal often… kinda a habit now lol. Appreciate the support Phillip, thanks for watching.
I have this on my bike now. Saves your hand from constantly telling me that I forgot to turn the dang thing off. Tried their brake module as well, but the vibration from the bike was constantly setting it off. Had it adjusted to be the least sensitive it could be. Can't use it.
On my Rebel 500 2021, the other end of that cable is not inside the headlight housing. In fact, it doesn't even enter the housing. It is below the gas tank. Could not access it without removing the gas tank. It is much more work to get at the other end of that cable. Didn't need to mess with the headlight.
2020 plus, changed a few things. Thank you!! It’s extremely helpful pointing out that difference. I appreciate that. added this point in the description. Thanks again.
good video , but i have got headlight out hanging and have 3 white connectors and not sure either of them is the one i want , could be one of the 2 bigger ones further back the cable but its a major job to get at them and still might be wrong !
it looks like the connector is under the main control screen but well hidden and i dont know which one and i got to remove all sorts to get at it so cant see colours im reluctant to do this as im unsure it will go back in
@@robertharris9820 I agree. If you’re not sure it’s best not to do this. Sorry this video didn’t help you. I wish you could send me photos of what you’re seeing, as this platform is hard to point things out. Edit: what year is your Rebel?
This works on most bikes if not all. The reason it’s labeled this way is due to wire colours and connection locations. As long as you trace the wires or have a wire diagram you should be fine.
@@SLIGHT_ time out is used on a tranchiver so the radio will stop transmitting at set time so it will not transmit for ever if the push to talk is accidently push.
VERY interesting video @slight_ - I am in the process of fitting a PDM60 to my 2022 Rebel 500 so seeing the details on where the harness goes, where the connector packs are hidden is all very useful. I am guessing this is a slightly (no pun intended) older model as the turn signal stalks look different to mine, they could always be custom I guess. However, HOLD THE PRESS! - Your guy has a GPS support bar above the dash dial. THANK YOU! ❓
@@SLIGHT_ That would be very much appreciated. It will save me trying to create something myself. I plan to remount my lockable Touratech Handlebar mount on the Rebel.
I should also mention that the wiring harness colours change depending on where you are in the world. In the wiring harness diagram I have been using they refer to the purple (the diagram calls it 'V' for Violet) as being a positive wire, but on my UK bike the same wire is black with a blue tracer. It can make it a little tricky following the wiring diagram 😞
Interesting. Not sure why Honda would do this. I can as shocked an aftermarket company knew the correct wire colours. That is was manufacture specific and not model specific. Thanks for sharing this
@@SLIGHT_ To be honest, I don't think it's just Honda. I have seen this now on BMW, Suzuki and Honda. I just think that, for some reason, they seem to want to re-colour depending on the global region. I have no idea what the logic behind it is.
To install this ST2 module, you will get absolutely ZERO help from ST2, they do not respond to either emails or FB messenger. note: this is all great info... Unfortunately this was done on a 2019... Honda did change a few things for the 2020 plus. shouldn't be difficult to adjust the install from this.
I bought this item for a BMW R1150R, website suggests this should work, but it won't. After selling the item, the company (David Rand) does not respond to my emails any more. I'm afraid I have been scammed.
Why won’t it work?? I’ve heard this a few times now… they need to work on their customer service. Yet many others have great experiences… smh sorry to hear your difficulties. Hopefully they fix this quickly.
@@SLIGHT_ It won't work, because of this: in most bikes, the flasher relay is placed in series with the flasher switch and bulbs. The BMW has a different set up with momentary switches: one for left, one for right and one to cancel. For the module to work, they need to change the circuits. I suppose that the regular ST2 module has a relay contact inside for both left and right, that gets switched on when you push the flasher switch (which was made momentary by the supplied rubber dampers). After finishing your bend/ curve, then that contact is released, and the flasher will stop. For the BMW, all they have to do is 'read' the left and right flasher switch, and when the flasher has to stop, connect the BMW cancel switch to ground for a moment. It should not be hard to do for them, but it's a different setup.

How do you take the turn switch cap off without breaking it
The button that fits on the lever? It’s friction fitted. So gently pull it straight back. You shouldn’t have any issues with that.

Follow the harness back to the switch.
It may be easier to remove it as I did so there is no confusion.

No unfortunately. Through our testing it didn’t really allow for that option
