My first mora came to collage in a suitcase from Sweeden. Lars Larson gave them out to dorm mates. Laminated. 1975. Wow time flies!. Great handle shape for sure!!!!!!!
Really enjoyed your presentation of the Mora 106. I have been woodcarving for over 50 years, as far back as when I used to spend time in my father's gun shop as a kid and teenager. For some reason, with all my carving knives, I never got a 106 to use. I have been thinking of buying one lately, especially for greenwood working. Your video was very informative and helpful. Thank you. Just a note about the wood staff. I think what you might have is the same wood as they make stair treads from, which around here I think they call it Carolina pine. They look alike and seem to have the same character. You are doing a great job on shaping it and I don't think you could use anything else to get the detail you are. Even using a rotary or power tool would probably end up chipping the wood and be hard to have as nice looking stick. You just have to keep pecking away at it, but you will have a very strong and useful staff when finished. I look forward to your videos as they come out.
Thankyou. Yep have no idea about that wood. It's like 3 different pieces put together. It a test...lol. thanks for watching 👍 always appreciated
Great little knives. I love a Mora knife. Very reasonably priced. I bought a knotty pine board for a project that had the same dark yellow hard sap wood in an alternating grain pattern. I was difficult to mill.
Lol..yep. try whittling it...the horror.. be safe
I like Mora!! Great Video! I like carving and walking sticks too. I’ve never made one though. Good Stuff!
You should make one for around the homestead....there evil hawks around you know...lol. really is a good way to just sit and relax and whittle away. Handy to have.
I have a 106 ,120,122,124 .I use the 120 for most projects. Great staff btw .Great knives
Nice. I want the 120 for sure. Thanks for watching hung appreciate your support. As always be safe
Nice work George. Your walking stick could pass as a Zulu Nungi fighting stick. Great little knife that does the job so well.
Lol...thankyou. still working on it....lol.....be safe
Interesting tools George 👍. Good luck to you. Take care.🇺🇲🔪🔥🌲
Thankyou, be safe
The thickness is pefect (2.7mm. Thickness is between the common Companion,Kansbol etc models and the Garberg/Bushcraft Black ones. Scandi grinds suck when the blade is thick, because of their geometry that thickens early and stays all the way from the edge bevel, to the spine, as thick as the spine is! That being said, around 3mm, is the way to go,for either woodcarving or bushcraft tasks in the outdoors.
Yep, The scandi doesn't work as well on them thick ones. Figuring that out the hard way...lol. thanks for the info and support. Be safe out there
Nice tool’s George
Thanks for sharing
Walking stick carving looking good too . 👌
Thankyou my friend. Hope all is well. The walking stick is testing my patience ...lol.
Awesome video, buddy!
Thankyou much appreciated
Supervisor looks kind of sceptical today.
Mollie(?) is afraid you take too much time with the (admittedly beautiful) walking stick and not taking time with her ;-)
Stay safe!
Yep..she has her reasons from this last week...lol. thanks for watchibg
If you like the 106, I highly recommend trying the 105. It has the best handle.
I just got the 103. I like the shorter blade.. gonna have to look more...lol.. thankyou
@@2ndchancegeorge Greetings from Germany
Great job on the video George, I make walking sticks, I had the same problem with the same wood ended up chucking it. I get hard wood from now on, also use mora knives. You might get some wood burs for your Dremel loads off fun and very effective.
Yep thinking about that. My Dremel skills are lacking to say the least...lol. thanks for watching
I'm not sure what type of wood this is, but the alternating light and dark lines represent growth rings. If I'm correct, the lighter rings indicate spring growth, while the darker rings indicate summer growth. Summer growth is characterized by slower growth, smaller cells, and greater density compared to spring growth.
Ahh. Thankyou. Good info. Appreciate your support
Hard to walk about at freeze to thaw. My flooring handle wood is too hard to whittle. I tried to split a groove. As it dries the groove opens. Stabilizing after bringing into house is important! I cut the wood too large. Sheesh bowwinkle!
Good mornings Mr George. Hope all is well and life is treating you well! 💕 💞 ♥️ 💜 💙
Tell Mary I said hiyas.
Morning my dear. All us well. And Mary says back at you. Be safe 😁
My first Mora (along with the hook knife counterpart). Great ergos and time tested design. What's not to love?
Yep I hear you. Thanks fir watching always appriciated 👍
I wanted you to have that stick or any stick when you were trudging around without one.
By the way, that cat cracks me up.
She has her moments. I have been remiss on taking walking sticks with me.cthatll change. Be safe 😁
Good knife review George. I would love to make my own hiking staff. I have a nice pine stick I found in the water along a mountain lake a number of years ago that had to come home with me. I don't know if it long enough or where to begin to make it into a staff. Any examples, ideas or guidance would be appreciated. Take care
I have a video coming out. I'll try to include what determines size etc. Hopefully Friday. Let me know what questions you have. Be safe
You mixed things up. The carving knives 105/106/120/122 do not come in stainless (except the one with the plastic handle). They come in carbon and laminated steel. And you have the laminated. If the blade is carbon or stainless these words are stamped on the blade. If it says nothing, then it is the laminated steel version (3 layers).
Ahh. Good info thankyou. My bad. Thanks for clearing it up. Be safe
@@2ndchancegeorge Don't forget a drop of oil. Be safe.
Thankyou
Change the angle on your carvers, the little carvers are ran at like 9-10 degrees per side or like 12-14 degrees if they are chisel grinds and it can't support the applied pressure at that low of a angle. Micro bevel the carvers very lightly to around 12-14 degrees for V bevel or 16-18 degrees if it's a chisel edge. You will notice a little degradation in carving preformance but it's gonna stand up to the hard wood/high pressure being applied much much better.
I need a better sharpening thinggee. Lol. I want to get one of those arc sweep ones where I can set the angle better. As you know my sharpening skill need some work.....alot of work...lol.
