What a fabulous visit to a real model railway. It is always an added bonus when a layout depicts an actual location, as indeed my own Armathwaite does. I was fascinated by Gordon's statement that people viewed the layout and could how exactly where they knew personally. Once at an exhibition with Armathwaite I spied a chap stood a few few from the end of the layout, and he seemed mesmerised. I walked over to say hello and noticed a glint or perhaps even a tear in his eye. I have not been down the front of the layout he advised me, because I don't need to. I know this location he said, because as a young lad in the 1930s I sat on that bridge parapet watching the trains. I spent over an hour checking every detail of the layout with him and it appeared that when Howard and I built it we almost created perfection. As he left to see the next layout he looked at me with a tear in his eye , grabbed my sleeve and said thank you for making my day. In actual fact he had made mine too!! Thanks Charlie. Superb filming and a wonderful description of the layout by Gordon. Cheers, Bob

Well done Gentlemen for your wonderful representation of Wimborne. Also well done for your excellent commentary in describing the model you’ve created and it’s operation.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Thanks Charlie. And a great job you did as well, I suspect a lot of thought went into the final production so well done you ! Hope you had fun in the process though. p.s. I loved the “driver’s eye view” run round sequences
Many thanks Charlie for sharing this. The Wimborne model railway is incredible. The many coordinated operators work so well and that modelling is something that I can only dream about. A wonderful job everyone involved with the society. To model something that has now all gone not only brings back memories of those who were around at the time but also educates later generations on the history of how things used to be. Many thanks for sharing.
Hi Charlie, I don't know how I missed this video when it was first posted by you, but boy am I glad I have now watched it. What a stunning layout which I really enjoyed watching. Thanks Greg
Thank you Charlie . This is a fantastic layout I have seen this a few times at various shows . The operators are always very friendly and always ready to offer advice .
Yes Charlie! I chanced upon this stunning layout on the exhibition circuit a couple of years ago and found it absorbingly entertaining. Especially when a local pickup goods arrived into the station on the Up Line up behind a BR Standard Class 2 2-6-2T, knocked the brake van off and conducted its business in the Up Yard before re-joining its brake van in the station and continuing onwards. Such realism and interest for the public, too. Thanks for posting it.
Wonderful, how nice to see a dedicated skillfull group of people. Very well presented, not taking anything away from dcc its nice to see you can have a fully functioning railway have fun with the analog system. Thanks Charlie well done for bringing it to us. Eddy xx
Hi Charlie. Have always LOVED model trains. Thanks for bringing the hobby as a specialist collector and hobbyist, alive for me. Your explanations and methods make such sense to me.
I was impressed with the bridge over the Stour and the way they have not only modelled the river itself very effectively but the land as it slopes to the river. It looks right.
So glad you took the opportunity to visit this model, as a kid I spent over a decade living on Leigh Road, so it was a real pleasure to see the layout finally completed to exhibition standard.
Thank you very much Charlie and also to the Captain and team of the Wimborne railway. The comprehensive explanation of the layout along with talked through explanation of each operation was really good and so much better than actually watching a layout at an exhibition where operators don't have the time.
What a great video Charlie, it is good to learn much more about the detailed operation of such a successful and realistic model. I hope the exhibition organisers in the midlands and north will jump at the opportunity to add it to their shows. Please thank the team for sharing their layout with us.
First, thanks to the club to "show" us their beautiful ,well thought out and run layout. Second, it never fails to amaze me how the British railways love their trackwork. Cross overs, diamonds, double and single slip switches , three-way and wye switches ,and these are all hand laid. I can't get one commerical three-way to work. I just love it. I don't even need a train running through the switch ( sorry points) to be fascinated by them. Third, thanks Charlie for showing us this wonderful layout and their great co-operation was remarkable. I never understood the " three cheers for ... So an so", until now. Three cheers for you and these fine gentlemen. Hip, hip, hooray, hip, hip hooray, hip, hip, hooray!
Just shows how complicated such a relatively simple in terms of track a layout can be in realistic operation. Extremely interesting and informative video nice one Charlie.
Charlie, thank you for an "Exhibition" Report. What a lovely layout, so much wonderful detail, and such enthusiasm for the model and the attention to details. Counting bricks to get the size of a house, that is going above and beyond..... The weathering on the locomotives and rolling stock was just right, and the operations are something you could just stand there and watch for hours. Please pass on a "Well Done" to the team at Wimborne. Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Lovely bit of Shunting Charlie, Thank you for the video, Enjoyed every bit of it as there is not much fun in just watching trains going round and round. Cheers, Michael.
Hello, I watched the recent video put out by you with Chadwick Model Railway regarding the Wimborne club layout. I have to admit, the layout's level of detailed craftsmanship was simply stunning and a credit to their group. I particularly enjoyed the operations which also had no distracting background music and some excellent descriptions of the activity happening. I am an American modeler and even though I may be over the pond so to speak, I have drawn a lot of inspiration in recent years from British modeling including yourself. The skill level of so many British modelers seems to far exceed what we have here nowadays, particularly with the layouts I've seen lately at many of the model shows. Again, bravo to the Wimborne Model Railway society for some of the finest modeling work I've seen anywhere for some time. You all have my gratitude for your inspiring examples. Keep up the great work!
The skills shown by the British modelers, and their results are exactly why I have chosen to model British rail here in California, along with the fact that I can (eventually) run thirty and forty car/wagon trains without having to move out of three rooms in the house. Having once considered modeling my home town of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and the associated Challengers, 4000's, and Streamliners across the great plains, I ma glad I have let go of that fantasy.
Charlie, Another great presentation and a wonderful layout! I particularly like the Stour Viaduct - excellent modelling all round. Many thanks to you, Gordon and the rest of the Wimborne team for putting this together. Cheers, Alan, Langley, BC

👍"From across the pond" Hello Charlie thanks for sharing that wonderful video. The Wimborne Model Railway is truly an amazing layout! Have a great, looking forward to your next video.🚂
Thanks for this Charlie. A great presentation and I'd like to see you do more like this. You manage to capture the full essence of the layout and without the jostling at a public exhibition. Good job!
That was an intersting video, Charlie. Always nice to see a really well modeled real locoation. All before my time, and sadly reflects what happened to our once go anywhere (almost anywhere) railway system that we used to have.
A fantastic model. I especially like the quality of the track, the points looked very authentic. Charlie, that is the 2nd time in a week I have seen your distinguished self in the background of another model railway 😀
Great video, excellent layout. Wonderful example of a successful exhibition layout there, lots going on and I do love a layout with a consistent stock roster. Saw this at your Xmas show for the first time (hopefully not last) and was very impressed.
Thanks Charlie, lovely model When I was at boarding school in Shaftesbury (Shaftesbury Grammar School) in the mid to late 1970's, I used to get the bus to / from Bournemouth. From Bournemouth to Shaftesbury, near Wimborne, we went over a level crossing and if you looked to the right, you could see coaching stock which appeared to be stabled in the distance. It was there from 1977 to 1978 at which point I had a moped then motorbike
Thank you Charlie for sharing a wonderful layout and anything with an S&D connection to it always gets me excited. A tip for a future type video is it would be nice to see the signalling working as that is quite a skill. I always look forward to your next video.
Great video last night it’s so nice to see club layouts and their take and views of our marvellous hobby and also when you go out and about into your local area the different things you show every time you do a video you are an inspiration to us all Charlie best wishes Kevin Beighton Parkway Sheffield
For some weeks I kept the edition of BRM which featured Wimborne in my Loo Library. Remarkable how you can still see something new after several loo breaks. Magnificent as it appeared in the magazine, that pales before your video. This is a trruely great model in every sense and your video does it justice indeed. 45 minutes of absolute pleasure.
This takes me down memory lane. Going to Wimborne market in the early fifties to buy or sell rabbits. The mention of Lady Wimborne also pulls the heart strings as my mother was a seamstress to her before the war
Amazing and beautiful layout, dear Charlie! Love the different explanations from all the team members. Very cool uncoupling mechanism. Think I saw a comparable layout like the Wimborne Station exhibition layout at a train show here in the Netherlands, over a decade ago. What truly amazed me was the level of operation and operation opportunities. Next to that the level of detail achieved. Even though the grass is always greener on the British isles, in model form British layouts definitely stand out, for a more natural look. At that time, at the very least, most of the exhibited Dutch layouts, still remained at what I call the ‘Heki’ standard colors. Great vid. Such a great way to show the achievements, passion and puns of a model railroad team, like the Wimborne one. Cheerio
Good to see you venturing out into the Badlands of Dorset, Charlie. As the crow flies, I live a mile from the site of the old station, so it was really interesting to see what it was like in steam days.
I took my Grandson Ivo to the West Camel show just before the new year where you appeared. We were captivated by your set-up and Steve very kindly allowed Ivo to spend some time operating the fiddle yard. I would love to see the wiring diagram as it you described the controls as 'a form of cab control' - interesting! A seriously good job - very entertaining as well and I look forward to seeing the layout again soon. Thankyou!
Thanks Charlie and Wimbourne crew. Superb layout and nice to see the realistic operation - something that is missing from so many exhibition layouts where trains just go round and round and the sidings are never used. Would love to see it in real life but its a bit of a hike from Sydney. Jon
Hello Charlie, don’t mind admitting I’ve had a hectic week and just remembered I’d yet to watch this video. And my goodness it was worth it! 😎 We visit our friends at Wimborne each year when we go to Dorset on holiday and absolutely love it there. As a child, Clair’s family visited the minster and remembered a kindly old man who, hearing their disappointed groans that the Chained Library was closed, revealed himself as the custodian and gave them their own private tour! Fast forward to 2021, we met two ladies at a gig in Hammersmith, they mentioned they came from Dorset, and Clair told this lady, Sam, about the nice old gent (can’t remember hi name off the top of my head). This lady’s face fell to disbelief as she revealed that she was…the old man’s granddaughter! What are the chances? 😂 Her grandfather was headmaster at the grammar school and was a prominent member of the community until he passed aged 91. Sam’s dad, John, told me of the many trips the old gentleman would take the pupils on, and mentioned his nature trails along the river and the excitement when a train rattled over the old bridge, so it must be that very one! How fantastic to be able to see it in model form. I can’t wait to show John this video when we go down in June 😊 Thanks Charlie, please do pass on my regards to the chaps when you speak again. It truly is a fantastic model and I love that there always seems to be something going on 😎 Cheers 👍🍻🍀
Love to see a bit of shunting, plus great to DC still going strong. Hope when your running your layout hope you do a bit of shunting. Moving stuff is why the railways where built, not people. Great video Charlie.
Hi Charlie, great video I'm glad you didn't do an aggressive edit!! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Wimborne, many thanks to Gordon and his team. I loved the seagulls and pigeons indicating where to stop for uncoupling!! Alas no man on the viaduct though 😉😉 You did make me wonder what might remain there, I had a quick look on railmaps and that whole area is devoid of a railway connection. Thanks for showing us this a great many of your subscribers will be unlikely to get the chance👍👍 Look forward to seeing your "swifts" given the bird theme its going to be about uncoupling I guess😆😆😆 Good luck from Spain!!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it David. It really is a gem. The first of the Swift series comes out next week, although it is rather specialised. Regards, Charlie
A great video as always Charlie! For those that may want to know, Wimborne Model Railway are having their exhibition soon on the 15th and 16th April 2023, well worth the visit - Allendale Centre, Hanham Rd, Wimborne Minster, Wimborne BH21 1AS
What a very interesting layout Charlie, you can see the real enthusiasm and love they have got for this layout. Ok it’s not computerised and i think that gives it a unique look and feel. It looks like it is housed in a church hall which I can imagine is not ideal but as you say it’s a fantastic layout.
Great video and example of how to get away with another 2 weeks off rest and let that poor man talk for 45 mins. Lol. You work for Charlie then you certainly earn that tea and biscuit. Always a pleasure to see the videos upload every other Friday. Look forward to quick videos coming soon.
Thanks Charlie - A great video as usual. Wimborne is appearing at the Basingstoke MRE this week end (11th/12th March) - I look forward to seeing it for real, having watched your video.
What fun. A really lovely model, beautifully done. And how great to see an analogue layout that can operate so flexibly. Who needs DCC? Haha! By the way, depending which Lady Wimborne it is, she was the husband of my 8th or 9th cousin. (Which is a very distant relationship, so no need to bow or curtsey.)
Thank you Charlie, Another fun running session. For full disclosure I am sending an email to Gordon and his RxR Society. He demonstrated the removable gardening allotment section. Later he mentioned two contemporary treatments for those properties which got me to thinking. Which is NEVER a good thing. But here goes. Invite Society members, friend, and diorama crafters to design, plan, & build scenic structures to the dimensional constriction of the allotment section. Onto that sub-building bed the modelers present a Posh Gentrified Apartment Complex and/or a Senior Citizen's home. The second option COULD have a tunnel structure over the trackage adding to the viewing experience! A club challenge for enhancement and personal bragging rights. Just my thought for your thoughts. Jim in N.Y.
Wow, where to begin with comments about this fantastic layout and the guys who have built and run it.... The layout is so well thought out and the detail is amazing. I specially liked the WW2 anti-tank defences that we have all along the south coast , specially by the railways which would have been easy route for tanks, had they got onto them. The whole philosophy of the group is great, they get huge satisfaction from operating the layout but their appreciation of a wider audience is excellent. Having been a child in the time in which the layout is set, I really can't wait to see the whole thing for myself one day. I don't suppose they are coming up to Cumbria this summer???? All the best, Peter
Thanks Charlie. Great video. Nice mix of detailed views, overall views, and operations rationale. Commentary was very helpful.
Glad you enjoyed it Steve. It took a day to shoot and a day and a half to edit!

Finally I see a good reason for pigeons.

Wonderful example of a successful exhibition layout there, lots going on and I do love a layout with a consistent stock roster.
Saw this at your Xmas show for the first time (hopefully not last) and was very impressed.
I’m so pleased that you were able to join us Dave. Regards Charlie
Another Great Video of a busy layout THANKS CHARLIE
Thanks Graeme, I’m so pleased that you found your visit to Wimborne interesting. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie, lovely model
When I was at boarding school in Shaftesbury (Shaftesbury Grammar School) in the mid to late 1970's, I used to get the bus to / from Bournemouth. From Bournemouth to Shaftesbury, near Wimborne, we went over a level crossing and if you looked to the right, you could see coaching stock which appeared to be stabled in the distance. It was there from 1977 to 1978 at which point I had a moped then motorbike
Happier Times perhaps Martyn.
Stay safe, regards, Charlie
Thank you Charlie for sharing a wonderful layout and anything with an S&D connection to it always gets me excited. A tip for a future type video is it would be nice to see the signalling working as that is quite a skill. I always look forward to your next video.
Thanks Simon, I’m so pleased that you found Wimborne to be an interesting construction. Regards,Charlie
Great video last night it’s so nice to see club layouts and their take and views of our marvellous hobby and also when you go out and about into your local area the different things you show every time you do a video you are an inspiration to us all Charlie best wishes

I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Kevin. And many thanks for such a heartwarming comment. Regards, Charlie
Thank you Martin, that’s exceptionally nice of you to say so. Regards, Charlie
Submarine to the surface time. Very lovely and interesting layout.
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting FRJ. Regards Charlie
This takes me down memory lane. Going to Wimborne market in the early fifties to buy or sell rabbits. The mention of Lady Wimborne also pulls the heart strings as my mother was a seamstress to her before the war
What an excellent comment, William, from happier times perhaps. Regards, Charlie
A BIG thanks from my, really enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work
Thanks Alan, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Cheerio
Thanks Vincent, for such a heartwarming comment. Take care, regards, Charlie
Good to see you venturing out into the Badlands of Dorset, Charlie. As the crow flies, I live a mile from the site of the old station, so it was really interesting to see what it was like in steam days.
That’s excellent Peter, I’m so pleased that you could envisage what it was originally like. Regards, Charlie
Thankyou!
I’m so pleased that you and Ivo enjoyed yourselves John, and it was great that Ivo was allowed on the inside! Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway He's proficient and capable and has been from an early age. Of course, I didn't influence him from an early age...
Wimborne layout is absolutely fantastic I saw it at West camel where I first met Carlie Bishop
That’s very kind of you to say so, Ian. Regards, Charlie
@ChadwickModelRailway the only person that had a bad day was my wallet
Thanks, Charlie. Very enjoyable video. It's inspiring to see what other modelers create.
Glad you enjoyed it Nick. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie and Wimbourne crew. Superb layout and nice to see the realistic operation - something that is missing from so many exhibition layouts where trains just go round and round and the sidings are never used. Would love to see it in real life but its a bit of a hike from Sydney.
Jon
I’m so pleased you were able to join us on our visit to Wimborne Jonathan. Stay safe, regards Charlie
Hello Charlie, don’t mind admitting I’ve had a hectic week and just remembered I’d yet to watch this video. And my goodness it was worth it! 😎
We visit our friends at Wimborne each year when we go to Dorset on holiday and absolutely love it there.
Her grandfather was headmaster at the grammar school and was a prominent member of the community until he passed aged 91. Sam’s dad, John, told me of the many trips the old gentleman would take the pupils on, and mentioned his nature trails along the river and the excitement when a train rattled over the old bridge, so it must be that very one! How fantastic to be able to see it in model form. I can’t wait to show John this video when we go down in June 😊
Thanks Charlie, please do pass on my regards to the chaps when you speak again. It truly is a fantastic model and I love that there always seems to be something going on 😎
Cheers 👍🍻🍀
Thanks Tim, for such a heartwarming comment. Thoughts from days gone by, perhaps happier times. Regards, Charlie
Love to see a bit of shunting, plus great to DC still going strong. Hope when your running your layout hope you do a bit of shunting. Moving stuff is why the railways where built, not people. Great video Charlie.
Thanks Carlton, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Great layout. Much fun.
Thanks Ronny. Regards Charlie
Great video very nice layout some nice work on buildings etc 👍
Yes, it’s a real gem Clive. Regards, Charlie
and not a dcc mention anywhere, impressive, thanks for going to all the effort
You’re most welcome mate. Share the love, regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie, great video I'm glad you didn't do an aggressive edit!! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Wimborne, many thanks to Gordon and his team.
I loved the seagulls and pigeons indicating where to stop for uncoupling!! Alas no man on the viaduct though 😉😉
You did make me wonder what might remain there, I had a quick look on railmaps and that whole area is devoid of a railway connection.
Thanks for showing us this a great many of your subscribers will be unlikely to get the chance👍👍
Look forward to seeing your "swifts" given the bird theme its going to be about uncoupling I guess😆😆😆
Good luck from Spain!!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it David. It really is a gem. The first of the Swift series comes out next week, although it is rather specialised. Regards, Charlie
ALL GOOD ,THANKS TO ALL AT W.M. CLUB...SO MISS THE FRIENDSHIP OF CLUB LIFE.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Larry. No doubt the club will read your comment. Regards, Charlie
A great video as always Charlie!
For those that may want to know, Wimborne Model Railway are having their exhibition soon on the 15th and 16th April 2023, well worth the visit - Allendale Centre, Hanham Rd, Wimborne Minster, Wimborne BH21 1AS
Thanks for the info Philip. Much appreciated. Regards Charlie
Awesome video thanks for sharing it😊
You’re most welcome Rick. Regards, Charlie
What a very interesting layout Charlie, you can see the real enthusiasm and love they have got for this layout. Ok it’s not computerised and i think that gives it a unique look and feel. It looks like it is housed in a church hall which I can imagine is not ideal but as you say it’s a fantastic layout.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Martyn. And yes it is in a church hall which they hire. Regards, Charlie
I like the idea of not running trains round and round. The use of cassettes is also a brilliant idea.
Yes George, they really have put a great deal of thought into this one. Regards, Charlie
Excellent video Charlie
Thanks Mels. Regards Charlie
Very interesting! Thanks alot!
You’re most welcome Shelton. Regards, Charlie
Amazing model. The colour tones are perfect. I'd love to see it adapted for DCC and stay alive fitted to the locos one day.
It’s a great running layout Ed, but I’m on your side for the conversion. Regards, Charlie
Great video and example of how to get away with another 2 weeks off rest and let that poor man talk for 45 mins. Lol. You work for Charlie then you certainly earn that tea and biscuit. Always a pleasure to see the videos upload every other Friday. Look forward to quick videos coming soon.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Boom box. However, it’s a one day to shoot and two days to edit! Regards, Charlie
I like the idea of not repeating trains as this becomes monotonous....fantastic work and patience with this layout
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. David. Regards, Charlie
Thanks Charlie - A great video as usual. Wimborne is appearing at the Basingstoke MRE this week end (11th/12th March) - I look forward to seeing it for real, having watched your video.
You’ll find that it’s a real treat Barry. Regards, Charlie
Great comment, Andrew, you are almost royalty. Regards, Charlie
Thank you Charlie,
Another fun running session.
Jim in N.Y.
An interesting proposition Jim, we shall see what develops. Regards, Charlie
Thank you Peter, for such a heartwarming comment. As you appreciate, it really is a gem. Regards, Charlie
I love the Seagull marker for uncoupling. Should of been a GREGGS shop under the seagull. Regards Don
I’d go for a pasty shop!
Regards Charlie
