Wished there was a relic that showed a indicator of WHEN to hit the A button. Sometimes I just can't figure out at what point to get the bonus on actions 😂
Tip for Ant Bruisers: Use Zale’s Sunball skill on multiple Ant Bruisers asap to prevent them from spawning other Ant Bruisers. Try to use him last in first wave to collect Mana boost.
Another tip: Something that is not mentioned much but that helps improve combat is that among the magics they are also super effective or ineffective against certain types of enemies. It's not just that the enemy is weak to magic, but it also depends on the type of magic damage. For example, enemies such as ghosts or non-corporeal ones are very weak to lunar magic, but resist solar magic better. The opposite happens with physical enemies, they are weak to solar magic but resistant to lunar magic. Magic users are weak to poison.
It also add up property to some of the combos, like Zale and Valere first combo you can Boost either Valere to get Moon property or Zale to get Sun property, this actually make the first combo usefull to break Locks on bosses as by default by timing for a double strike it can already break 2 Sword and 2 Blunt locks add Moon or Sun and depending of the attack the ennemy is preparing you can break up to 5 Locks in one turn.
But they literally tell you. It's a whole part of the game where they spend a significant amount of time saying "how can you use magic when you can't use magic?"
I appreciate it! A lot of this was super familiar from Octopath Traveler 2, the type weaknesses and attacks. The timed button presses adds a lot to the turn based combat and can change the tide of battle so they’re of some consequence but not totally necessary if you can’t always make them. I’ve had a blast starting this game, but in the combat is a mix of Octopath Traveler and Atelier Ryza… for me anyway. Those are 2 games that I’ve played and the experience with them made it much easier for me to understand this games combat system. I REALLY appreciate that they added manual difficulty adjustments with the relics. That way I can turn them on or off any time I play because there’s time I play before bed that I don’t want to stress myself out and it helps so much to be able to adjust combat for a challenge or for a more explorative playthrough. They did so amazing with this game.
Not sure if it was already mentioned but it is possible to flank an enemy by running into their backside. By sneaking up on the enemy, you will immediately hit them with a sneak attack before the battle even commences... It's not always the easiest to pull off but hey, if you do - that's just less enemy HP that you have to deplete in the actual fight.
Yeah I've learned to use Audio as a Queue - for instance the Ants have a 3 Click Timer, 1, 2, Block. Try the Sound technique with these timings. I hope it helps!
Yeah the block only happens for a few frames, but at least if you jump the gun you can hit it again if there’s enough time. It doesn’t lock you out, there’s just a little cooldown.
@@pedroeugenio1975 Yeah I picked that one up and turned it on. It only works some of the time, so you can still work on the timings yourself, but it does help.
Thanks for this! The combat isn't too difficult to understand, but I did glean a few bits of information from the vid. What's difficult for me is the block...The button press on the attack is pretty easy to figure out, but the block is a pain in the ass.
Yeah anytime :) The timing on blocking is frustrating at time and definitely takes practice. I have notices the enemies attack in a 1-2-3 pattern where we block on 3. Try that out 👍
This was so helpful as this is my first rpg with this kind of combat. I tried the Sea of Stars demo, but just couldn’t properly grasp the strategy of the combat, it felt so random. I’d win a battle and not understand why. This video has changed that completely! So I’ve bought the game and am loving it, I would have totally missed out. I’ve completed many an ‘action’ rpg (Witcher, botw, assassins creeds), but couldn’t get into this style of game. Thanks so much for this. Please do some more beginning videos for this genre 🙏. Amazing video, thanks for all the great tips. Fantastic game! It gives me a feeling that other pixel rpgs just can't compare with. Great art, intriguing story and wonderful combat. Also, the exploration is really good without being a slog.
Great video! I some questions though, at 3:21 you hit the three enemies with a ”solar projectile AOE attack”. I can se the damage they take right at that moment (20, 34 and 21) but where are their respecive total HP (or is that hidden from the player)? Also, how does the icons above the enemies correspond to their PWR? I saw that tou took out the middle enemy’s first icon (the solar one, at 3:21 into the video) but his PWR number only went down from 100 to 75. Shouldn’t that be more like 100 to 50 since he only has two icons (100/2= 50)?/ Thanks in advance/ Isak from Sweden
Hiya! Just a quick one that primarily, yes, the enemy HP is simply hidden, but there is a relic you can pick up pretty early on that displays their HP. In some cases it's cool that their HP is hidden otherwise, but the downside is of course that it's an RPG, you'll find yourself fighting tonnes of enemies and having to use up one of you relic slots just to see the enemy HP feels like a waste for what should be such a basic function.
Nice glad it helped - I'll be working on a video guide on the Mini Game as well with the Figurines. Very confusing at the start but really fun to play once you understand it more.
Hey, great video! One thing that I still don't understand is how to know when an enemy is weak ("Vulnerable" text shows up) or strong ("Resist" text shows up) against your attacks. Maybe I should be boosting my MP at level up. Also, how about level up tips, speaking of! I usually choose whatever gives the highest boost (like if something is +3 and everything else is +2, I’ll choose the +3 one)
You've probably figured this out by now, but the boost amounts are set. +2 for attacking stats, +3 for defensive stats, +8 for HP, and +1 for MP. Very much recommend upgrading both HP and MP often. MP is first choice, HP is second choice if you can get it. There _is_ a midgame boss that will simply instakill you with a multi-hit, difficult-to-block attack if you don't level HP!
Currently playing this and I wish I could do a longer moonerang. Im playing on PC so commands are different, it's the space button. Im still trying to time deflecting Valere's moonerang and for some reason, I can time blocking easily but not the freaking moonerang lol/

I just got the eye of yamora. Do you know what the significance of the up and down arrows are where it shows the symbols for enemy weaknesses at the top of the screen? Here’s hoping!!
Thank you for the guide! But keep in mind that in the middle of the game there WİLL be cast attacks that are clearly impossible to cancel. For instance, pirate boss has an attack with 8 slots to beat: 4 hammers + 4 venoms. You have just 2 turns before attack. The assassin girl can stack 4 venoms like Valere do with her moonerang, if properly timed. But how to beat 4 hammers in 1 turn? No hero has an appropriate attack so beter eat moonfish pies and heal, and heal, and heal...

this game is so chill. kratom juice and this game = love
Yeah its been absolutely delightful to play. Just got done streaming it for 8 hours - had no idea lol
but why sword is PWR and moon is 100% on enemy?
So you really time the attacks twice? I thought it was just once...
Yeah it's for every time an action happens - they made it like Super Mario RPG; interactive RPG
@@oxfordking right on, thank you sir!
i like the graphic of this game but there is not a lot of spell .... and the game is so linear i wish it was a little more open map because am like 3 or 4 hours in and so far it like a straight line
It's a linear path until you get a ship but even still it's railed but less so.
I’ve been pronouncing her name as Val-er-ree 🤷♂️
Dam the bonbs only took 13 damage and you didn’t block. I block and they take like 17-20

The characters and/or art style looks like a step up from Earthbound but I hated that game.
This feels like giving us Final Fantasy Mystic Quest after decades of good RPGs. At least Mystic Quest has some solid art.
Sea of Stars is definitely a hidden gem that I hope more players get a chance to play
they compare this game with chrono trigger realy? this game is only to make money nothing else!
tbf 99% of today's gaming industry is out to make money and nothing else.
my timing is better on dock mode who knows why
@@crissanchez413 docked with corded controller will get you best response time to button press. Not in dock and with joycons is considered wireless AFAIK from what I learned trying to do mario rpg 100 jumps. What I'm getting at is, wireless will have a worse response compared to docked and wired.
