What amazing honesty from this man! He could’ve given a “unicorn and rainbow” story about his background, instead he was 100% transparent. Thank you, Chris.
Can’t believe I haven’t seen this until now. Super interesting. Also, this is the most natural interview I’ve ever watched. I just felt like I was in the room watching them chat
my thoughts as well...
When I started apprenticing in '78, my boss called me into his office. He had a customer with him, and he ask's "You want to see a Pre War Martin?" I was 15, I thought pre WWII? They laughed, no silly pre Civil War. In it's original sack was a very small parlor sized guitar that had a bolt on neck. It was detached for travel on horseback. It really got me excited to not only learn the craft of Luthiery, but the history of the instrument. There's a lot interesting history behind all the instruments we play today. There aren't too many 180+ yr old companies that are still family owned. I used to think Martin was unwilling to change with the times, old fashioned. It's that dedication to building guitars the way they've been made for many many years that's allowed them to survive 183 yrs and counting. They still have a CF Martin at the helm.
Very interesting interview. Chris seems like an honest guy.
Both gentlemen super articulate! Thank you.
Hey this guy ain't from Coldplay! 😂😂😂
Crazy thing is Chris Martin of Coldplay’s first guitar was a Martin guitar. Mind blown
They should meet up and take a selfie together
Superb interview! If you breathe acoustic guitars, this post will inform and entertain. I appreciate my D-41 and Martin's innovation even more.
great interview ... listening to this man talk is so interesting .. :)
Picked up an all mahogany 0-17 custom shop from 2015 and it is amazing.
Thinking about selling all of my other acoustics and getting another high-end Martin, they are the best.
I thought this was going to be the guy from coldplay haha
same
i think that all of us thought the same haha
Matías Giunta from Martin guitars was the real giveaway don't ya think
Michael Sleight Yes, he is older than the other Chris Martin, and he deserves all our respect, i said it because the coldplay singer is most popular, so we asociate the name "Chris Martin" with he.
Well Chris Martin of Coldplay owns a Martin guitar. Mind blown
How dumb were we! When we started in rock we said "No Fenders and no Martins." After 10 years guess what all we play? Yup, now we play nothing but Fenders and Martins. Chris is just a great guy! There's no way we would be as grounded and humble as this guy! Mitch did a good job, too! WE LOVE OUR MARTIN GP GUITARS AND BASSES! ROKKON!! \m/
Luthiers today are making guitars out of pallet wood. Hell there's a video on here of a guy that made a guitar out of colored pencils.
AMERICA!!!
The story about Germany having guilds that wouldn’t allow his ancestor’s apprenticeship in Vienna in the 1830s to count is a strange tale, because Germany didn’t even exist at that time. Why make up a fib like that?
Add to that, the Austrian Empire was the power in Europe at that time, so they’re pedigree over a mini kingdom would be superior.
Just strange to repeat an easily disproved lie.
The first date is when Germany was recognized as a region, on February 2nd, 962 AD. The second date is January 18th, 1871 when Germany became a unified state. Germany was a conglomeration of many kingdoms and empires but was often referred to as Germania, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Franks. It was also previously known as Prussia.
Is Chris going to pull out of Mexico now Trump has won?
