- We talk about why Mozu is so much better than other trainee units, but still one step below most units. Why early promote Nyx isn't as good as she seems. Why Selena has one of the best stat layouts and class sets in the game. Why Laslow is so unlike Selena, and why it's so important he can't rally to himself. Why Beruka is so balanced, and therefore underwhelming. And finally, why Peri is a potentially really good unit held back mostly by Fates mechanics.
In this new Tier List Review series, we go over all the units in Conquest to talk about what these units can do, and how good they are! Thanks to @Zoran501 for providing a bunch of in-depth analysis, both on here and on his own channel.

She has very good weapon ranks to start with, giving her immediate access to Armorslayer and Beast Killer. Her 7 movement can actually reach the knights on chapter 13 on turn 1, for instance, which probably makes her the best use for Armorslayer on that chapter. Her bases are somewhat underwhelming, though. She generally needs a speed pair-up early on but wants a bulk pairup later. Her personal pairup bonuses are almost identical to Charlotte's, creating an extremely even stat distribution in all the key stats as Great Knight. Friendships with Selena and Felicia are reasonably good. Between Felicia and the novelty Dark Knight build (Zoran alludes to it), she has better 1-2range options than what you would expect. Dark Knight Peri has a notable speed advantage over Leo and Odin and starts with the sword rank to use Levin Sword. It's a high-investment option that utilizes not-very-contested resources and it does create a somewhat different function to what the straightforward mages do in the class. But her best role likely is to push for one-hit kos, and in that sense you can think of her as an Effie replacement at the point where Effie starts to fall off. Her offensive stats are so high that she actually can push into one-shot thresholds fairly easily with a forged Javelin, and using either Attack stance or a Keaton pairup. I'd put her directly in the middle of the tier list.

One niche and cool thing about Peri is she's used atleast twice for boss kills in the 0% ltc. Once for chapter 13 takumi and then again for Zola in chapter 18. Not super relevant for tiering but its nice to see since both cases make use of bloodthirst to the fullest.

@@coldjolteon5799 I believe the person who did the runs you're thinking of deleted their channel since no results came up when I searched their channel name. Fortunately there was a different Conquest 0% run uploaded to a different video sharing website called BiliBili by a user called Jarvis_Amy. Unfortunately the website is in a different language so its really hard to navigate, so much so that typing in the channel name doesn't get you useful search results. The easiest way to find it is to go to their youtube channel (called Jarvis C) and a video they did called "Conquest(Lunatic,No Castle)C14 Leon, kill all in 6turns " has a comment that links directly to their bilibily page.
@@coldjolteon5799 I made a reply to this comment yesterday but I guess youtube didn't send it for whatever reason. tldr yeah the channel that had the 0% run you're thinking of did get deleted. Fortunately there is a different 0% ltc run for CQ though its a little harder to track. A youtube channel called Jarvis C has a bilibili channel with said run, its just hard to find since its a Chinese website. The best way I've found to locate the run is to go on Jarvis C's channel and click on a video titled "Conquest(Lunatic,No Castle)C14 Leon, kill all in 6turns" and in the comments they link their bilybily page, and from their you'll find the run if you look around.

All jokes aside, the Selena segment really resonated with me. She’s one of the most fun unpromoted units to train because her kit is so fun. Early Beruka friendship makes her skyrocket into a very fun Wyvern Lord and I just think it’s funny to have an early promotion Selena be a rallybot (Speed from Falcon, Skill from Bow Knight and Def from Wyvern). Her laugh crit quote is really charming too.
I’m not sure if the two of you mentioned it before, but are the Gen II units going yo be tiered? It’s so hard to find content about optimising them, so I’m hoping we will get something for them. At least Ophelia, Percy and Soleil should make for interesting unit discussions.

I did Keaton marriage for the 4th rally in my last run. Though I ended up using 3 anyway since I always run alot of bow knights and they all have rally skl.
Ah Bekura, funny how despite being not terrible, she's outclassed as a wyvern by both her fellow retainer and princess. I've liked her as a character and a unit for a while now, so I try to make her work even if that's not "optimal" and hey more wyvern riders means more fun! I think. Selena is also one of my favrioute characters and honestly I've started to come around on Camilia, if only because she's a great unit to use. Fates just has a lot of characters that are fun and it makes figuring out which ones I wanna use pretty tough, though the fact that marriage is a thing gives me an excuse to use nearly all gen 1 units, even if some are only pairup bots.
i warmed up to camilla because i like both beruka and selena as characters. camilla is sweet on them and vice versa.

I recently found a mod that adds an assassin class tree and makes Beruka that by default, haven’t gotten to use her yet but I’ll let you know if she performs better in that role.
@@Blaze-nm1uhAlways found it weird that she wasn't in the thief line to begin with. Her personal would synergize with bows, even, and it would give us a stat-counterpart to niles (focusing on strength, defens, and less speed for example).
Countercurse does actually have one 'benefit' over countermagic, it also works on player phase.
"Much worse Leo" is one of the most damning phrases I think I have ever heard.

About Beruka:
One thing that I love doing with Beruka is, while pairing Beruka with Selena (or Camilla), going for a Berserker route.
Not only it makes Selena even better than she already is (because Berserker pair-up bonuses are nuts), but getting access to Axefaire makes her really good, both for chipping (especially if you have Savage Blow as well + Trample, with a hand axe) and general combat.
And if you are going for the favoritism route, you can do silly shit like:
WK > Hero > Berserker > Malig > Wyvern Lord. Grab Str +2, Lunge, Sol, Axefaire, Trample.
All with the base classes from Beruka. No marriage required for any of this. So she is kinda flexible for a marriage candidate, giving Wyvern for who needs it, while not needing anything for herself. She can actually do the Takumi-killing as well with a set-up like this (and a brave axe).
Not that it would change any of the ratings, I would still put her where she is, but it's my perspective from my favorite unit on this game :3

@I said Beruka going for fighter, not selena lmao. After Selena gets wyvern from Beruka, Beruka can transition to Berserker, and give massive offensive bonuses for Selena, while still having some utility (in Rally Str + Def + really good chipping).

I would like to add to beruka, that being she just has native access to literally “the dream” physical combat unit classes and that if you want to take her into very good combat status it’s very direct and simple.
Not really. Axefaire and Trample only come online by the endgame, and it's not like she gains much speed/strength from the Wyvern promotion or from her growth rates. Her bases are good, as is her personal, and that's enough to coast for a while.

I don’t expect her to appear on the list, but I’m curious where you guys would rank Anna (DLC), assuming she’s recruited around chapter 10.
With some of the highest growths in the game, she almost feels like the quintessential utility unit with access to locktouch, healing and money farming, but obviously limited with Corrin being her only marriage option

Some of my favourite units being tiered today.
Mozu is probably my favourite trainee in the series. I think this is a good placement for her, I've seen a few tier lists lately put her like high-mid A tier which is just too much considering her drawbacks. One thing I love about Mozu is that she's a unit who joins early who can hit important endgame benchmarks even if she promotes fairly early, giving her quicker access to the amazing skills she gets in her natural class line.
I really love using Selena. I think she demonstrates why Fates' class system is really good. Units aren't completely dependant on what their starting class is, but you also can't just make any unit any class, which prevents units from feeling near-identical.
Peri is a unit in Fire Emblem Fates.

For a real answer, I don't have much insight as I don't really enjoy using Nyx due to the issues they laid out. If you use the DLC, Witch Nyx is fun and very good.
One time a i use aventure nyx twice in they ninja map and work sorpresive well, even with 45% hit or less she never misses
When I use Nyx,
1. I like to Friendship Seal to Archer,
2. build to rank D bows + Arms Scroll to rank C,
3. give her a Shining Bow once Shop level 2 unlocks,
4. promote Sniper to level 5 (for Certain Blow),
5. then Heart Seal to Adventurer for the rest of the game.
From there, she can one round many enemies, and be an backup healer.
Obviously, it's a lot of effort to get A support and get rank C in bows, but that's why would only do this if you want to use Nyx.
unfortunately you cant do that in conquest if a certain individual decides to not recruit mozu and you end up having to marry her to odin and do a swordmaster levin sword instead

Not optimal, but makes a character functional in a very interesting way.
So like Malefic Aura, Movement +1, Quick Draw, Certain Blow, Filler? I think I'll try that next playthrough, it sounds fun. She realistically might not be able to pick up Bowfaire though, unless you got paragon and saved a bunch of paralogues.
@@GIR177 Yea, Bowfaire takes too long. The filler slot is usually Heart Seeker or Skill +2, until she gets Lucky Seven.

She doesn't have a class where Bolt Naginata would help. Dark Knight gets Levin Sword though, which is stronger than, say, Paladin Bolt Naginata.
I want to see an informed critique like this for an FE13 tier list. The speedrunning community seems to understand how the game ought to go by this point, but this channel seems like one of the more useful platforms to have it on record.

Camilla’s retainers were some of the only Nohr units not struck with the big Revelation Nerf hammer.

Erika works great for me as a sol master ninja. She gets there through Selena friendship and laze marriage with 0 heart seals and grabs Merc and fighter skills on the way. Her avg stats pan out being pretty close to Silas in the same roll with less str and speed but way more bulk and skill

One benefit to Nyx if we're allowing *some* DLC just not the grinding maps; you mention Odin and Leo both want flight, you could take one of them into Dark Falcon and then take advantage of the Nyc pair up bonuses.
I don't even count that as DLC since you only need to have bought all 3 versions of Fates, which if you care enough about tier lists then you probably did
Another thing is that Dark Falcon also gives +2 speed which Leo and Odin would also love
@rumorfrancis3096 True! I didn't look into the classes pair up bonuses but if you wanted to keep Odin in Sorcerer for Nosferatu shenanigans for example you can use Nyx as the flier as well

If only Peri could support Beruka for Wyvern access that isn’t locked behind sacrificing Xander’s marriage to somebody who gives him Dark Mage. If she does become a Wyvern she actually is pretty good with generally good combat stats and an interesting personal, but giving up like Charlotte’s marriage to Xander and making him worse is so not worth making Peri a good enough combat unit, which is just sad.

When I played birthright my Mozu never went beyond like 25 health. Though she was in Kinshi so she didn't need to engage at one range often.
Kinshi growths are absolutely atrocious though. Yeah, normally I think that class growths shouldn't be your primary concern because they ultimately don't matter that much, but Kinshis are SO bad, it just physically hurts me, lol (especially they come on top of their also pretty bad base stats).

Depends on what chapter you can do it, if you can staff spam Elise to it on chapter 8 or before then go for it, chapter 8/9 is when i believe you want to start the Elise in the other class line
makes sense, I love the utility of aura skills but the last time I waited for demoiselle it felt like i had completely worthless Str and Skl in return. and she can probably make up for not having demoiselle with Lily's Poise@@rumorfrancis3096

yeah i swapped her to wyvern on chapter 9 and Lily's Poise is enough for the Odin synergy to work fine. She's at D rank axes and a half. She just got skill screwed really bad though lol@@LoudWaffle
@savant0969 She'll always get skill screwed, personal growth of 25% and a base of 5 will always be lame.
Bronze Axe is at least pretty accurate and you can patch her up with skill tonics, and nobody else really wants Secret Books.
And once in Malig she can always resort to Fire tomes as a side arm for her Bolt Axe.

I don't know yet! I think it's a bit too soon to just do one of those right now since I'm doing a lot of Fates recently, and I also don't want to overlap too much with Balk's series on BR units. But I do want to cover all games eventually.

I really don't like the Nohrian royal siblings having redundant retainers instead of hiring someone to create better unit coverage. I think Peri would be much more useful if she was Camilla's underling giving her a coverage for a proper lance user, and swapped Beruka in return to give Xander some flying unit coverage.
Something tells me these medieval nobles are not hiring soldiers like they’re playing a Pokemon game.

Beruka serving Xander can contribute to the idea that she want to atone for her past sins of trying to assassinate Camilla, but is afraid of her because she's now a stronger lady, hence why she serves her closest proxy.
also he can use her as a scout, he's the grand commander of the Nohrian army and he needs all the intel he need to win the war. Peri feels more like a brute than anything and probably won't function well as a scout.
@@azizabdul8914 Okay, but have you considered that it would be better if we had two (or more, counting Wyvern Elise) flying units in Chapter 10 instead of two (or more, if you go Paladin Jakob like a fool) Cavaliers? I would never ask for Peri over Beruka if it meant no extra flier for that map.

I'm probably thinking too much in an LTC context, but the primary problem I have with Mozu in B is that I don't think she has enough unique utility to ever really save turns in a run, while someone like Nyx has been proven to have such utility in LTC. And at least in the early game, base Outlaw Nyx has just as good if not better bow utility at base with the bronze bow since she can still double/OHKO paired pegasus knights and wyvern riders with tonics in addition to letting you get both chests in chapter 11 without costing turns to move niles around.
Archer Mozu can also OHKO the Sky Knights with a Bronze Bow and tonics, and in return you actually get a good unit out of her, unlike with Nyx.
Yeah I don't really care for turn count very strictly in this context. General applicability is more important to me than the ability to save a single digit number of turns somewhere. And Nyx still requires a seal to do that thing, and then gives less long term pay off for using it than Mozu.
If turns aren't as important, then I could see raising Mozu higher since now you can also train her in her joining chapter too (I was never factoring in skipping her chapter). I've just always looked at Conquest too close to LTC because of how tight the gameplay is. It's why, while I'd still say she's A tier, I'd say Wyvern Elise is still inefficient since I believe that costs you one turn in chapter 7 by not having an 8 move unit lol
@@blademasterfe2227 Saving one turn in Chapter 7 but making the rest of the run harder on yourself in the long-term sounds pretty inefficient to me.
@@cartooncritic7045 If efficiency is measured by turns, then wasting a turn is inefficient. Mekkah isn't really considering such things, so it's a moot point. I don't agree with the idea that not using Wyvern Elise makes things harder since she's just fine as a troubadour. Only S tier units are really worthy of such consideration imo
Whaaaat? Mozu can almost sweep her chapter though with a Corrin backpack, barring the immobile boss, on Lunatic, potentially without using Tonics, though using them is far, far more consistent.
before watching this video just some initial thoughts, as a conquest novice the only one of these characters that ever stood out to me is beruka. (well and mozu but that's a separate thing, of course she'll stand out if you use her, all or nothing). Selena just feels like bad bases/bad strength/bad weapon, backpack, and yeah. I'm obviously wrong about this judging from previous videos but it is funny (and I really did want to like her as one of the many unique people who liked most popular second gen awakening unit severa. but actually don't even like selena's personality bc bad fates writing). For a clueless player though (judging from the description) I feel like beruka is the best bc she just works and its only with knowledge that her not excelling becomes clearer -- though she has always understandably fallen off for me. What can I say, wyvern rider, how can that not be good, I mean that's been the story so far right? Anyway, excited for this discussion of the not as obviously dominant characters.
You can tell this game was lacking content due to all the cut weird stuff. had fun with it but it just felt like you were there for the story not the gameplay. I played conquest and that seems to be more entertaining than the Hoshido route so im glad to say this game was fun while it lasted I guess. I was jumping in hoping for a much more drawn out system with loot money making but it seems to have relied on online gameplay. And since im on 3DS its impossible to experience the online and cut stuff from the game

Thoughts on all units discussed today:
Mozu is great. My playthroughs always go much better with Mozu in my roster. She's so uniquely useful during many of the hardest fights in Conq, as well as just being great in the moment-to-moment. Anti-flier flier units are just peak in Conquest.
I'll be honest, nothing Nyx can do can't also be done by Leo or, like, a hammer. Using her is like what some players think using Mozu is like to me.
Selena is the underdog of Conq, you work through her flaws and she can be just about anything you want her to be and perform amazingly. Wyvern and Paladin Selena have been my favorite builds, and is a good candidate for stat boosters and the beastkiller.
Beruka is solid, and you can make the decision to sac flying for better stats in fighter at a point when flying isn't that contentious (Camilla/Selena/Mozu). Her stat spread makes her one of the best candidates for Hero (I guess). With her skill+gamble she can have about the closest thing to a sol/crit build you can get, but don't think that means you can actually get Selena's personal to work
Lazlow having low stats at the unfortunate time he joins almost disqualifies him from being a good unit. The +1/+1 he provides might also not be that useful in the average playthrough to justify continuously deploying him on its own. I mean you just got Peri who naturally gives herself +4/+4/+4/+4, the odds are really stacked against him.
Peri is hard for me to use when she joins since my team is already full by this point, but i usually have fun when i use her. Definitely the most fun dance target when you're able to make it count. Her personal w/ a Luna and Wyvern/Ninja reclass could go crazy, but you'll have success running her paladin-only.

@@Stefloraalso every bad unit can get kills, with 2 damage. Selena barely gets kills in lunatic or even hard mode, she never one rounds and almost always gets one rounded. Also selena doesn't have wyvern utilty unless she grinds supports which makes her worse than units that can get wyvern instantly. But I get it, you consider a flying rally bot good. Well good for you. Selena doesn't get kills, and can't take hits, unless you play on normal mode.

My favorite Peri experience is playing the Gay Fates mod and realizing marrying her to Azura is both easy to achieve since you want to maximize Bloodthirst anyway, and it lets her get flight without taking away Xander, and it made her feel way better to use.
I wonder how many other units would improve if they weren't burdened by heterosexuality lol

I'll edit comments for each character after watching the segment:
Mozu is probably C-tier in my book. She has unique investment costs to get going, and while her class access is a unique benefit in Conquest, it doesn't really accomplish all that much that can't be done otherwise (as Zoran said). You even have the option for a midgame Kinshi in Shigure or Azura's husband. Certain Blow is useful, as there are a number of bosses and minibosses with extremely high avoid: Kitaro (chapter 17), Fuga (20), Hana, Hinata. Though I typically promote her directly into Kinshi. Her best husband is Benny, who provides so much defense he actually salvages her bulk. Otherwise she'll remain the least bulky physical unit on the team until well into the late game.
I remember the times when Nyx was slotted into mid-tier thanks to the earlypromote Dark Knight strategy and Leo marriage. I've always thought she's the worst in the game, and among the least flexible units to use. Though one thing I'll add is that the earlypromote build is turning a 5 movement unit into an 8 movement one, which is considerable and somewhat unique at the time. But it kills her longterm viability. Weapon experience is so slow that I could never recommend the Shining Bow build. Just use magical Nina for that, or use Ophelia as the frail but speedy mage.
Selena is approximately the Conquest version of Leonie from 3 Houses: a tanky speedster who has ways of boosting her damage output. Wyvern probably is the best option for her, because of its overall stat distribution, but I'm convinced Falcon Knight is a close second. A 15/5 Falcon Knight is on track to get Rally Speed roughly at chapter 17: in other words, just after slowpokes who really could use the speed join (Xander, Leo, I guess Keaton too). You technically have other ways of getting that speed, but Rally Speed is easy, consistent, and doesn't take away from any other resources. At that point, she can transfer her lance rank into Wyvern Lord for chapter 19, or transition more into a supportive role via rallies. She also has three high-tier skills to pass to a child: Rally Speed, Darting Blow, Strong Riposte. She's a good mother for pretty much everyone, and any male hoping to become an Enemy Phase tank really appreciates the Hero skills. She's a good, well-rounded unit that rewards game knowledge.
Beruka is Conquest's version of Subaki (early flier with high skill and defense but poor offense), but actually in a class that really complements that archetype. Wyvern bases carry her for a few chapters after she joins: her damage looks good (until it falls off), and she can just reach the speed thresholds. That's not going to last, but she'll retain the general utility of flight, hammers, rally defense,and physical defense high enough to take negligible damage from physical enemies. I would still put that in C tier, because you'll likely have several other characters that do those things better, and the part where she is "good" is the easiest stretch of chapters in the game. But that is a moderate amount of utility wrapped up in a character who doesn't need much investment.
Laslow: C-tier. It's pretty hard to make his combat relevant (natural access to Sol ninja looks nice, but Soleil does it better). He's kind of good with a Charlotte pairup, but that's true for any male physical unit. While he has a unique rally bonus (and Peri really should have been programmed to have a stackable bonus too), the +1 only rarely moves the needle for thresholds that you can't reach otherwise, and dedicating a deployment slot and an action to keeping it set up has niche but certainly not non-existent utility.
Peri: She has very good weapon ranks to start with, giving her immediate access to Armorslayer and Beast Killer. Her 7 movement can actually reach the knights on chapter 13 on turn 1, for instance, which probably makes her the best use for Armorslayer on that chapter. Her bases are somewhat underwhelming, though. She generally needs a speed pair-up early on but wants a bulk pairup later. Her personal pairup bonuses are almost identical to Charlotte's, creating an extremely even stat distribution in all the key stats as Great Knight. Friendships with Selena and Felicia are reasonably good. Between Felicia and the novelty Dark Knight build (Zoran alludes to it), she has better 1-2range options than what you would expect. Dark Knight Peri has a notable speed advantage over Leo and Odin and starts with the sword rank to use Levin Sword. It's a high-investment option that utilizes not-very-contested resources and it does create a somewhat different function to what the straightforward mages do in the class. But her best role likely is to push for one-hit kos, and in that sense you can think of her as an Effie replacement at the point where Effie starts to fall off. Her offensive stats are so high that she actually can push into one-shot thresholds fairly easily with a forged Javelin, and using either Attack stance or a Keaton pairup. I'd put her directly in the middle of the tier list.
Selena is the waifu. Definitely didnt have every run with her end up with her drinking 3+ tonics every chapter and still barely doing anything. 10/10 would waste every resource on her again
Beruka and Peri are such sad units, it feels they have inferiority complex.
Quick Draw is Opportunist but easier to work with and there's capturable wyverns with it. Camilla will always be the better wyvern but every reclassed wyvern is still better than her.
Bloodthirst feels like inferior Vow of Friendship and Chivalry and their user's are the cream of the crop.
Their best contribution is always giving their reclass to better units and that's just sad.
Probably the best part about using Beruka is that she will extremely likely promote into Wyvern Lord, which gives Rally Defense (which I’d argue is like the 2nd best Rally behind Speed in CQ?), whereas Camilla only gets Rally Defense if she commits a Heart Seal to it. You definitely can capture a Wyvern to do her job and get Rally Def or like reclass Gunter, but Beruka builds towards that only using a Master Seal while also building towards giving a class literally every unit appreciates having to any other unit of your choice.

Mozu does 0 damage at base on her joining chapter and gets 1 shot. By the time you reach her, half the map is reasonably already dead along with her 'potential exp'. A heart seal in the early game is a tall ask especially considering she's the only unit at that point doing nothing at base, begging the question why you would even deploy her in the first place (especially in such a challenging and linear game) . And for what immediate payoff? being able to damage fliers (some of the least threatening enemies on ch10) and nothing else? I don't see any other placement for her other than F tier.

How to tell someone doesn't use attack stance:
I find it hard to believe you’ve played the same chapter 10 of CQ as the rest of us, Those fliers are one of the biggest priority to kill because they ignore your units and gun in for the seize point. Someone that deals with them (with better hitrates than Niles, might I add) is definitely a welcome addition to a team.
On top of that, there are a lot of places where an accurate Bow user has places in a CQ team. Chapter 11/12/17 Ninjas, chapter 13/14/20 fliers, etc.
For mozu herself, ch10 is an exp farm to get her rolling when heart sealed to archer because she can just hang around the central area of the map to pick the sky knights off for exp. Plus your only other bow user at that point is niles and 2+ sky knights spawn every reinforcement wave so having another bow user to handle them is nice since you want your main combat units going towards takumi and oboro.
Speaking of niles, mozu has unique access to archer in conquest and by that extent, useful skills such as quick draw, certain blow & bowfaire. Friendship with effie turns her into a viable late game kinshi knight while marriage with niles gives him sniper to dip into for more late game potential, or just certain blow for better capture rates on people like rallyman. Nina also gets access to sniper and likely quick draw or certain blow inheritence to help her out.
While not an S or A tier unit, she can hold her own with just a heart seal invested into her early game (and forged bronze bow), helping alleviate flyer issues in ch10, 13 & 14 and having good hit rate against ninjas in 11 & 12. And becoming a solid enough unit later on.
